Picard and Wes are both due at Starbase 515; Wes for more Starfleet exams, and the captain for a medical procedure he's too proud to have done on the Enterprise D, a replacement of his artificial heart. Wait, Picard has an artificial heart? While he and Wes shuttle across the galaxy to their various appointments, Riker and company answer a mayday from a disabled ship crewed by a race who appear to be offensive stereotypes of people with intellectual disabilities. After a brief exchange with the aliens, Riker assumes they are harmless and decides to send Geordi over to help repair their systems. Naturtally, they hold him hostage in an attempt to extort more tech upgrades from him and the Enterprise. Meanwhile on Starbase 515, Picard's routine surgery goes kattywompus and his only hope is Pulaksi who is lightyears away on the Enterprise. Will Wes pass his exams? Will Geordi get back safely to the Enterprise? Will Riker get that promotion to captain he was ducking two episodes back?

So the Enterprise is checking out some volatile planets, and Riker thinks it would be a good opportunity for Wesley to learn how to run a team, so they put him in charge of rock surveys. Wes gets all sweaty overthinking the job and how to deal with commanding people older than he. As all this is going on, Data single-handedly decides the Prime Directive is for suckers, and answers a call from a little girl on Drema 4, a planet on the verge of exploding. Picard pops a vein as Data's actions create all kinds of conflicts for him to navigate when Data wants to help his new friend survive. Will Wes be able to lead his team without pooping his too tight pants? Will Data get to save his little friend? Will Picard ever be able to take a minute to ride his horse or read a book?

The Enterprise D is charged with escorting a special passenger who has spent her life isolated in preparation for a new role. It's Salia, the soon-to-be leader of Daled IV accompanied by Anya, her protector. Salia is expected to bring peace to a world rocked by conflict due to half of their planet being in eternal daylight while the other half is perpetually dark. That's a pretty heavy thing to lay on a young person, and when she meets Wesley, romance leads her to question her fate. Young Crusher is in love, but Salia and Anya are not what they seem. The Enterprise D orbits Relva VII as young Wesley Crusher tests for entry into Starfleet Academy, competing against three other promising candidates. Meanwhile, the Enterprise crew finds itself subject to a surprise inspection from Starfleet Command under orders from Picard’s old friend, Admiral Quinn. A cocky young officer named Remmick represents the Inspector General’s office and subjects Riker and the rest of the bridge crew to a demanding interrogation focusing on the fitness of Capt. Jean-Luc Picard. What is the mystery at the heart of the investigation? Will Picard be compelled to leave the Enterprise? Will Wes get lucky? We're back to bring you a new edition of BangTheBook Radio this holiday season. Host Adam Burke started it off with Bryan Leonard from WagerTalk.com to chat about the college football bowl games this week. In this episode of the show, Michael sits down with Wes, a self-proclaimed LED Tinkerer. Wes wandered into Michael's store in Toronto, Canada, and asked to speak to the owner. Michael, seizing the opportunity to create content, threw Wes into the studio and asked him to explain his tinkering. Wes has taken the driver out of an LED fixture and connected it directly to DC current, and then tested the connection to show the LED chip's power consumption is only 1/4 of a Watt. Michael asks questions for details of what makes it work before giving Wes another project to tackle in the form of illuminating an LED tube. Will Wes return with the project tackled? Hopefully we will see in a future episode.

"Wesley's Friend" January 31, 1986 We're joined by friend of the show Nick Perry for an episode handpicked from VSTV superfan Danny Meyers, we watched the classic Mr. Belvedere episode "Wesley's Friend." Wesley (Brice Beckham) gets bumped up from President Taft to Honest Abe Lincoln in the school President's Day Pageant when his titular friend Danny (Ian Fried) is taken out of school as he has been diagnosed with AIDS and its still 1986. Wesley gets some questionable information on what AIDS is and how you can catch it from his school yard chums and shuns poor Danny in his moment of need. The Owens'es attempt to inform Wes that he can still be friends with Danny and even wear his old Lincoln costume in the pageant. Wes has a change of heart and he and Danny start crossing items off the old bucket list (grim). Meanwhile Kevin (Rob Stone) is taking home economics in school for the "Easy A" but is failing miserably. We get the standard "gay panic" when he's caught sewing and... baking!! But don't worry - Kevin learns a valuable lesson about housework - or something. Will Wes be forever shunned for hanging with Danny? Will Kevin ever get that pesky meatloaf recipe right?
