Baylor football sent Gerry Bohanon into the transfer portal to start Blake Shapen at quarterback this season. This is not a conversation of whether or not Dave Aranda regrets this decision, but this is a conversation about how Shapen performed in the Bears' 6-6 campaign. Here's a hint for you: it wasn't great. Shapen actually regressed over the course of the year, and that just won't do. Now, for a much lighter conversation, we have a good view of where Baylor will go bowling. It will be the Liberty Bowl, Texas Bowl or Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Book your tickets to each. We've reached week nine of the Texas Longhorns' 2022 season, bringing us to the Kansas State Wildcats. It's year four of the Chris Klieman era and KSU has high hopes after its second 8-5 season of the post-Bill Snyder era. They bring in Nebraska transfer Adrian Martinez, who will operate the offense under new offensive coordinator Collin Klien. As an interim, Klien led the Wildcats to a massive 42-20 win over the LSU Tigers in the Texas Bowl, averaging 7.13 yards per play to close the season. Running back Deuce Vaughn, one of two unanimous preseason All-Conference players, returns for another year to hopefully ease the tension on his OC and quarterback, while trying to notch another 2,000-yard season. Defensively, the Wildcats bring back six starters from a defense that allowed 21 points per game and 5.37 yards per play but must replace two key pieces in Cody Fletcher and Ross Elder, who finished second and third on the team in tackles. Who will replace that production and how can the defense take a step forward in 2022? Austin Novosad is Baylor football's quarterback commit for the class of 2023. Austin Novosad has also now picked up an offer from Ohio State, and the boys in Columbus are recruiting the Dripping Springs native to join the Buckeyes after his senior year. In this fierce battle over the young quarterback, Baylor has to find a leg up on a program that boasts national titles and playoff appearances. This is no easy task. To retain Novosad's commitment, Baylor needs to harp on Shawn Bell's job security, detail plans to start Novosad early on in his career due to the already small quarterback room and tout Novosad's ability to be drafted highly from Baylor. Staying in football, Drake hits the topic of 247 Sports' preseason bowl predictions, an article that includes Baylor in the Texas Bowl. Furthermore, he puts that in juxtaposition with Baylor's No. 12 preseason ranking. Would the No. 12 team in the country only be worth the Texas Bowl at the end of the year? Drake does not think so, and he points to Auburn being the projected opponent to show that this list has many a hole. Lastly, Drake gives his own thoughts on baseball hiring Mitch Thompson to lead the program. It is going to be a beautiful marriage between the two parties when Thompson is able to display his skills with the transfer portal and win right away in Waco. Moreover, the hire shows just how much Mack Rhoades loves Thompson. To have hired a guy that was a part of 'old Baylor,' this move is huge. Thompson is certainly going to win in the Green and Gold. The Tomahawk Nation team is working on a variety of written and podcast previews to get you ready for the upcoming Florida State football season looking position-by-position on the Seminoles' roster and team-by-team on their opponents. The Seminole Wrap podcast crew is going to use the next few weeks talking to beat writers from the most notable opponents on their 2022 schedule to see where those teams stand heading into fall camp, using the lull in the calendar to get to know the enemy. The first in that series is a conversation with The Athletic's Brody Miller, who covers all things on LSU Tigers sports. Host Brian Pellerin talks about the coaching change, quarterback battle, and the names you need to know before LSU and Florida State take the field in the Caesars Superdome on September 4. Plus, Brody gives a couple of recommendations for stops you may want to add to your itinerary if you plan to make the Labor Day weekend trip to New Orleans. Florida State heads to New Orleans, Louisiana next season for a primetime matchup in the Caesars Superdome. They'll face the LSU Tigers with a brand new head coach in Brian Kelly. The Seminoles currently lead the series 7-2, riding a four game win streak against the Tigers. LSU is currently favored in the matchup, garnering the most recent success in the college football atmosphere. Although the Tigers were able to hang up a banner in 2019, both teams have brand new rosters and expectations heading into the 2022 season. The Noles should be coming off a win against Duquesne in week zero, which should increase their confidence and comfortability. They'll need to have a dominant game on the defensive side that leads to short fields and easier opportunities for an offense that's going to take time to develop. Head coach Mike Norvell and his staff are heading into a football town with a hostile environment that's hungry for a statement win on primetime. But, if FSU pulls off the upset, Seminole fans may have their eyes light up for what could possibly be a turning point in the program. Following a year that saw K-State finish below .500 for the first time since 2008, the Cats bounced back in a BIG way in 2016. The Podcats return to review an exciting season that saw a number of pleasant surprises: - Jesse Ertz is FINALLY healthy and just misses the 2,000 passing/1,000 rushing mark - The emergence of Alex Barnes, Justin Silmon and Dalvin Warmack in the runningback room - The defense showcased dominant forces at all three levels, highlighted by Big 12 DPOY defensive end Jordan Willis - Elijah Lee, Mike Moore, DJ Reed and Dante Barnett were all badasses, too - Patrick Mahomes comes into Manhattan, throws for more than 500 yards, and leaves with an L in the most underrated game of the Snyder 2.0 Era  - K-State delivers a long-overdue asswhooping to the Art Briles-less Baylor Bears on their home field - Mike Lee takes the first of many L's in the Sunflower Showdown - ZOMG MYLES GARRETT... does absolutely nothing in the Wildcats' 33-28 win over Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl

We have a BIG episode for you today! We sit down with the president of the Houston Texans and writer of the 'The Winning Gameplan' Jamey Rootes! Jamey‎ Rootes - Jamey‎ Rootes has been one of Houston's leading executives for more than two decades. He currently serves as President of the Houston Texans and is responsible for all business functions of the club. Since joining the Texans, Rootes has overseen the team's efforts to secure stadium-naming rights and sponsorship, coordinated radio and TV broadcasting relationships, engineered the club's successful ticket and suite sales campaigns, led the creation and launch of the team's identity, and developed the team's highly acclaimed customer service strategy. Under Rootes' leadership, the Texans have earned many distinctions, including numerous "Crystal Awards" and most recently two American Business Awards for marketing excellence. J.D. Power & Associates recognized the team for providing the best fan experience in the NFL and featured the Texans as a service success story in their book entitled "Satisfaction." The Texans were also recognized with Sports Business Journal's PRISM Award, which is given annually to the top major professional sports team based on business excellence criteria. In 2019, the Texans extended their sellout streak to 185 consecutive home games – a Houston NFL record and a testament to the quality of service and entertainment provided by the organization on gameday. As a result, the Texans have consistently been recognized as one of the most valuable professional sports franchises both in the NFL and globally, as measured by a variety of business publications. Rootes also serves as President of Lone Star Sports & Entertainment (LSSE), a sports management agency associated with the Texans. LSSE has been a catalyst for some of Houston's most significant sporting events. Under Rootes' leadership, LSSE created and now manages the Texas Bowl, Houston's annual college football bowl game, as well as the Texas Kickoff, an annual college football game. In addition to college football games, Rootes has overseen the production of many soccer games put on by LSSE such as COPA America in 2016, the Manchester Derby in 2017, and an International Champions Cup match between global soccer powers Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in 2019. Sports Business Journal twice selected Rootes as a member of its distinguished "Forty Under 40" list of leading sports executives, and in 2014 he was named a finalist for the Global Sports Executive of the Year by the Stadium Business Awards. Rootes was recognized in 2017 as the first-ever Houston Business Journal's Business Person of the Year after serving as chairman of the Greater Houston Partnership. In 2019, he was selected as one of Houston Business Journal's Most Admired CEOs. Earlier this year, Rootes was recognized as the 2020 Steinberg/DeNicola NFL Humanitarian of the Year. Rootes served on the Super Bowl Host Committees in 2004 and 2017 and was also appointed deputy chairman of two public boards for Super Bowl LI in 2017. He led the efforts to secure the Texans appearance in the first-ever Monday Night Football game to be played in Mexico which helped to elevate Houston's visibility on an international scale. Rootes maintains an active role in the community by serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Houston Partnership and the United Way of Greater Houston. He also oversees the activities of the Houston Texans Foundation whose mission is to be "Champions for Youth. The Houston Texans Foundation has donated more than $36 million since its inception in 2002 through annual fundraising events, disaster response programs, the team's United Way campaign and partnerships with nonprofit organizations on gameday.
