Read transcriptPrepare for takeoff, fellow gamers! This week on Play Comics, we're blasting off into the world of Robotech: Battlecry, where you can pilot a Veritech fighter and save the universe while trying not to crash into your own nostalgia! Join us as we follow Jack Archer on his epic quest to defend Earth from those pesky Zentraedi, all while dodging missiles and mastering the art of transforming from jet to robot (and back again) without losing our lunch. Joining the mission is none other than SP Rupert from The Gonna Geek Show, Legends of S.H.I.E.L.D. d Better Podcasting, and Artie's Attic, bringing his signature wit and insight to help us navigate the skies of nostalgia and questionable early-2000s graphics. Will we earn our medals, or will the Zentraedi laugh us out of orbit? Tune in to find out! Or don't, it's not like you're going to start an intergalactic space war or anything…….. Learn such things as: Is Robotech more of a salad or a multi layer dip? Hey, isn't this based on an “original” anime? How do you convince someone that this is the giant fighting robot series that they should love? And so much more! You can find the guest on the Gonna Geek Network Discord server, and of course his almost too many podcasts The Gonna Geek Show, Legends of S.H.I.E.L.D., Better Podcasting, and Artie's Attic. Welcome to Mona Lisa Overpod, the show that asks the question "What is cyberpunk?" On each episode, hosts Ka1iban and author Lyda Morehouse dive into the genre that helped define sci-fi fiction in '80s and they break down its themes which remain relevant to our lives in the 21st century. Pull on your mirrorshades, jack into the matrix, and start your run with us today!Cyberpunk meets space opera (and soap opera) in the 1995 anime OVA Macross Plus, a continuation of the original 1983 Macross series! Isamu and Guld are childhood friends turned professional rivals who are who are pushing their bodies and their Veritechs to the limit for an experimental aircraft competition. When they are abruptly reunited with their mutual former flame Myung, the trio will be drawn into a deadly game of killer AIs, insane virtual idols, and deadly resentments! In this episode, we discuss the tortured history of the Macross franchise both domestically and abroad, the subtle complexity of anime storytelling, the reality of virtual entertainers and generative AI in the arts, the dubious connection between art and trauma, the strengths of anime as a storytelling medium, and the real-world application of machine learning in war. We also talk about furries and cyberpunk, machines hacking us, kicking the robot dog, humans failing the Turing test, the "Itano Circus", being a wysiwyg guy, red oni vs. blue oni, ending a war with a song, being fluent in Zentraedi, John Henry B/23, art about art, and the "curious" parallels between Macross Plus and Top Gun: Maverick! The Star Wars Trilogy is an OVA!The new edition of Lyda's book, Ressurection Code, is out now!https://wizardstowerpress.com/books-2/books-by-lyda-morehouse/resurrection-code/Join Kaliban on Twitch weekdays at 12pm for the Cyber Lunch Hour!http://twitch.tv/justenoughtropePut Just Enough Trope merch on your body!http://justenoughtrope.threadless.comMLOP is a part of the Just Enough Trope podcast network. Welcome back for an all new episode of Totally Radical Cartoon Podcast. This week, Randy is solo again and looks at an episode of Robotech. An abandoned alien battle fortress crash-lands on Earth in 1999, stopping a world war in the process. The international scientific community spends the next ten years reconstructing the damaged ship, called the SDF-1. At the ship's launch in 2009, a race of giant alien warriors, the Zentraedi, appear and attack Earth in a bid to capture the vessel. Young sport pilot Rick Hunter has his first experience with a rather odd fighter plane.

In this thrilling episode, Farley Gnarts finally gets to meet fellow Resistance fighter and total effing badass, Rael Esgaelion AKA The Burning Mask. Along with a rad Zentraedi pilot and a rough-and-ready shotgunner (please don't tickle him), the boys head out on a deadly mission to track an army. Along the way, they kick some tail in a majorly cool way. Plus, fruit pies! Game mechanics in this one: Inertia: If a Vor'akh runs more than once in a turn, add 5 speed at the end of each move action - every 20 yards covered in a round add 1d6 slam damage to the target they hit (each 5 points of bash damage can be converted to feet thrown 5:5, unless target is a full class smaller, in which case its 5:10) Stopping movement after starting an inertia run can only be done by rolling a medium difficulty(15) Athletics check, or by running into something. Blessed: When the Loremaster uses a character's blessed power, they can instantly convert any roll into a super success. This is basically like getting a free legend point which can only be used by the Loremaster. Rolling Thunder: If a character with this move successfully hits a target, they can take a second attack against another target within ten feet (or 10 degrees of arc with a missile weapon) Speeding: If a character chooses they can add extra feet to their run by spending one VP per 3 foot of extra ground covered Closing Song: "De-Stress" - Rebelution Get involved! In this thrilling episode, Taylor's Vor'akh Defender, Farley Gnarts, finds himself in a holding camp for immigrant families, and plots his next move. A Lieutenant Bravos takes a shine to him. And some fun stuff I won't get into here. Hint: It's pretty awesome. Game mechanics in this one: More botching. Reroll an Intimidate check if you become a bigger threat (like by taking someone's weapon). Buying martial arts moves without the Martial Arts perk costs 5 points per specialization/move instead of 3. New characters: Zentraedi badass woman fighter - Rahminus, unnamed Gilimorean elder Closing Song: "One Human Race" - Maureen Aku Get involved! What kind of Veritech does Santa fly? Does he bring presents to good little Zentraedi, too? Can there even BE a "little" Zentraedi? What would an Invid want for Christmas? These and other questions may be under consideration this Robotech Christmas Eve!

While entertainment industry insiders like Harry Knowles claimed to have heard Hollywood rumours four years later in 1998, very little has ever been revealed about what was actually in the script. Until now. This pre-vis concept of a Zentraedi came 2 years later with the script, but shares common elements with the Zentraedi described in the initial treatment. Doug ‘Calamori’ has uncovered an initial treatment for a possible Macross live action movie from 1992. Auto-tuned idols? A 4000 meter long Macross? Cycloptic, insect-like Zentraedi? Tune in as Doug shares his discovery with the SpeakerPODcast American Crew in this World Exclusive. (Yes folks, Darkwater is back.)

I was joined for this show by Darkwater, blogger for The Unofficial Robotech Reporter, and Jason "Smitty" Smith, a long-time Robotech fan from the old Robotech Mailing List days. I interviewed Darkwater at length about his fan experiences and about the Shadow Chronicles News site he administered prior to Reporter. I also talked to Jason Smith about the good old days of the Robotech Mailing List. After that, we were joined by Brooklyn Red Leg, CavScout, Justy Ueki Tylor (for a while), and Fernando Gonzalez (chat only) for a roundtable discussion that covered such topics as the fate of the Zentraedi species, the future of the Robotech franchise, and the Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comic books.
