En Europa, representantes de una docena de organizaciones sociales e indígenas de Centroamérica, agrupados en la Caravana mesoamericana por el clima y la vida, denunciaron los impactos ambientales y sociales de los grandes proyectos de desarrollo económico e industrial en sus respectivos países. En El Salvador, por ejemplo, el Sindicato de Trabajadoras y Trabajadores Indígenas del Campo alerta sobre los impactos de los megaproyectos turísticos e inmobiliarios del gobierno de Nayib Bukele. Desde la construcción de un aeropuerto en un manglar, hasta la privatización de playas para proyectos turísticos, pasando por la expropiación de comunidades para el desarrollo inmobiliario, las megaobras impulsadas por el gobierno de El Salvador no siempre traen beneficios a nivel local. Reelegido con más del 80% de los votos en 2024, a pesar de que la Constitución del país se lo impedía, Nayib Bukele se vanagloria de su política de seguridad que llevó a la disminución del número de homicidios. El dirigente también impulsó una serie de grandes proyectos de desarrollo económico. Esta semana, en Vida en el planeta, conversamos con el activista Ángel Flores, uno de los coordinadores del Movimiento Indígena para la Integración de las Luchas de los Pueblos Ancestrales (MILPA), un colectivo que aglutina sindicatos agrícolas, organizaciones ambientales e indígenas en El Salvador. Flores formó parte de la Caravana mesoamericana por el clima y la vida que recorrió Europa para denunciar los impactos sociales y ambientales de estos megaproyectos. “Para el desarrollo de todo este tipo de iniciativas extractivas y neoextractivas, se ha dividido el país en tres fragmentos”, explica Flores. “En la zona norte, que es donde está la cordillera, donde existe la mayor vegetación, es justamente los intereses mineros, mientras que en la parte central, en la cordillera volcánica es donde se pretende impulsar iniciativas de urbanización, inclusive en claves residenciales. Recientemente se ha anunciado la construcción de una mega ciudad que estaría abarcando más de 412 manzanas en el centro de un área de amortiguamiento ambiental en el distrito de San Alejo, en el oriente de El Salvador. Se le han nombrado ‘Ciudad Salud'. Y en la franja costera marina, se pretende desarrollar todas las iniciativas hoteleras, es decir, todo un proceso de turistificación”, detalla el activista. En esta entrevista con RFI a su paso por París, Ángel Flores denunció la ley que permite la reactivación de la minería metálica en el país centroamericano. “En marzo del año 2025, realizamos una denuncia porque existían ya indicios de actividad minera en el norte del departamento de la Unión por parte de efectivos o personal del Estado salvadoreño”, indica el activista. Flores alerta habló también sobre los impactos del desarrollo de los corredores turísticos Surf City 1 y 2, un proyecto del gobierno para estimular el turismo internacional en las playas salvadoreñas. “Los Surf City son zonas económicas especiales fácticas que están desarrollando. En estos territorios se está impulsando un proceso acelerado y agresivo de turistificación y por ende de gentrificación. Estos territorios han sido habitados ancestralmente por comunidades indígenas, principalmente de ascendencia lenca ulúas y que actualmente están siendo amenazadas de despojo de sus tierras. Solamente en el oriente de El Salvador estamos hablando que son más de 18 comunidades las que están siendo amenazadas ante ese proceso de despojo.
