Welcome to this weeks episode, where we discover Jims love of James May's Gin, Elton gets vexed by pen ink usage, Darren runs a sociopath test on all of the hosts , Lee is sick and Ants love of certain bodily fluids becomes vitally influential on the run time. Then after seeing a man of the cloth using marmite as a roll on deodorant and some feedback for Blue Beetle is read out, we move on to this weeks film. As the DC Extended Universe nears its inevitable reboot, filmmaker Chris Bell (Failed State, Attention Shoppers, The Winds That Scatter) joins the pod to dissect one of its last offerings in the form of Blue Beetle, a comparatively decent entry from a franchise that's still got another very expensive bowel-movement or two waiting for us. We once again debate the merits and limitations of Hollywood progressivism with this rather earnest if not by-the-numbers origin story for the Jaime Reyes incarnation of Blue Beetle, who according to SOME third mics is more popular than Iron Man if you're going by children's' lunchboxes. More importantly, what is a Blue Beetle and what's his relationship to the School of the Americas? Why did it take until the DCEU was about to be scrapped for parts for a Latino-led superhero movie to get released? Do Toyotas speak to an authentic Latino cultural experience? Did mother Susan Sarandon relish the opportunity to play her mortal enemy Hillary Clinton? If you'd like to see Chris' newest film, Failed State, send him an email at christopherjasonbell@gmail.com. Ode (@thatsod.e / @thatsod_e) and Mo AKA Kid Licorish (@licorishislegit) welcome comic book creator Gerald Goodwin Jr into the Snurdyverse for a bonus episode built around his series Kairu, Slayer of Kaiju. Gerald walks through the premise of a twelve year old granted a symbiotic alien suit that reacts to his emotional state, and traces the idea back to influences including Neon Genesis Evangelion, Blue Beetle, and the classic Stan Lee era of Spider-Man. The conversation moves into his lifelong Godzilla fandom, touching on the Monsterverse films, Godzilla Minus One, the original 1954 Gojira, and Godzilla vs Mothra, along with the atomic bomb metaphor built into the earliest kaiju films. Gerald also breaks down why the kaiju villains in his own comic represent real struggles like anxiety, self doubt, and guilt.Anime comes up as well, with Gerald crediting Toonami for shaping his early taste and naming My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, and Dragon Ball among his favorites. Gerald shows rough storyboard art from the upcoming issue six of Kairu for the first time in any interview, revealing a new character they nickname Mr. Steel Yubbage. The episode closes with the recurring mental health check in, a Big Mad segment covering topics like the reception of the Supergirl film and Hollywood's pattern of misreading what made Barbie successful, and a Happy segment where Pop-Tarts and Ratatouille both make an appearance.Connect with the Snerdy CrewWatch, Listen, or Sponsor the show: https://beacons.ai/blackandsnerdy
This week there is no Jim. However, what we do have is discussions about how to live with just one tea spoon, SDCC trailers, Supergirl, The Odyssey, Disclosure Day, Masters of the universe and the discovery that Lynx body spray came in Marmite flavour. Then after some feedback for Colossus The Forbin Project its on to this weeks film Is it a brave new step forward for representation in Superhero movies? Or is it a tired, by the numbers, focus grouped to within an inch of its life, flow diagram of a movie with some pretty colours that aims for representation and actually falls in to parody stereotypes? The Binge Buddies are activating the Scarab, and we're bringing some much-needed heart back to the franchise. > Welcome back to "Hall of Just Us," where your hosts Bryan, Matt, Joel, and Ryan are shaking off the multiverse fatigue to celebrate the absolute, unexpected joy of 2023's Blue Beetle. Right when the broader cinematic universe felt like it was running on empty, director Ángel Manuel Soto delivered a vibrant, hilarious, and deeply grounded breath of fresh air. The guys are breaking down how Xolo Maridueña perfectly captures the panic and heart of Jaime Reyes, the incredible, tactile design of the practical Blue Beetle suit, and the undisputed best part of the movie: the fiercely loyal, incredibly funny Reyes family. From Uncle Rudy's anti-establishment tech skills to Nana picking up a high-tech minigun, we're discussing how this intimate, family-driven dynamic saved the day. The Batman fans, brace yourselves: Part II just slid all the way to February 2028, and the guys have thoughts on whether it should even happen. Before Frank ships out for a two-week cruise, he and Jonathan clear the week's biggest geek headlines, from a live-action Princess Tiana penned by Colman Domingo, to a major God of War series recast, to Steve Buscemi joining the Far Cry show and a quick DC and Marvel roundup covering Blue Beetle, Supergirl, and Nova. Then the episode shifts gears for a standout interview with writer and director Stephanie Hubbard, the creative force behind the new fantasy comedy A Fairy Tale. She breaks down her leap from hairstylist to filmmaker, how Pure Magic Pictures built a fully connected nine-film universe on indie budgets, the real trading card game (Dino Guru) her cast learned to play on set, and why a thriving Discord community beats chasing Netflix. It is a genuinely fun look at building fandom from the ground up. Timestamps and Topics 0:00 Intro and Frank's Vacation Catch-Up 1:01 Colman Domingo's Live-Action Princess Tiana 6:08 God of War Series Recasts Kratos 10:27 Far Cry Series Adds Steve Buscemi 16:05 The Batman Part II Delayed to 2028 23:18 DC and Marvel Roundup: Blue Beetle, Supergirl, Nova 33:11 Guest Interview: Stephanie Hubbard on "A Fairy Tale" 1:07:46 Weekly Picks and Wrap-Up Key Takeaways The Batman Part II is delayed to February 18, 2028, and the hosts debate whether the six-year gap makes the sequel worth finishing at all, especially with a separate DCU Batman on the way. The God of War series is recasting Kratos after actor Ryan Hurst suffered a torn bicep. With two seasons filming back to back, four already-shot episodes will need a full reshoot. Colman Domingo is writing a live-action Princess Tiana that tells a new New Orleans story rather than remaking The Princess and the Frog, which the guys see as a smarter path than the recent one-for-one remakes. Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney's Far Cry series lands its first big villain casting in Steve Buscemi, with the hosts riffing on possible settings and story angles. Stephanie Hubbard's A Fairy Tale is the ninth feature in Pure Magic Pictures' fully connected cinematic universe, premiering July 23 at 7:30 PM Eastern, with the studio on track for four films in 2026. Pure Magic built real fan infrastructure around the movies: an actual trading card game (Dino Guru) the cast learned on set, a Discord community that names things like their coffee blend, and a heavy convention presence. Quotes "Not all fairies are good at their job." (Stephanie Hubbard, on the premise of A Fairy Tale) "When I try to be someone's savior, it doesn't go very well. I'm just a person." (Stephanie Hubbard, on the film's message) "No excuses. The cavalry isn't coming." (Stephanie Hubbard, on the Robert Rodriguez mindset that pushed her into filmmaking) "We make movies, but we're truly artists first, and this is our art." (Stephanie Hubbard, on community and creating) "Maybe in 30 years, we will make Time Pit." (Stephanie Hubbard, on the running in-universe reference in every Pure Magic film) Call to Action If you enjoyed the episode, subscribe wherever you listen so you never miss a drop, leave a rating and review to help new listeners find the show, and share it with a fellow geek on social using #GeekFreaksPodcast. X-Men '97 is back... and somehow Season 2 might already be even better than the incredible first season! After one of the greatest superhero TV seasons ever made, Marvel Studios had enormous expectations to meet. Through the first four episodes of X-Men '97 Season 2, we think they're off to an outstanding start. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down Episodes 1-4 of X-Men '97 Season 2, discussing the incredible action, shocking story developments, Apocalypse's rise, Cable's emotional journey, Magneto's biggest moments, and what we think is coming in the rest of the season. According to Deadline's sources, Michael Waldron, who has written a number of MCU projects including Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as well as the first treatment of the never-to-be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, is developing the script for a Nova feature film. Waldron is currently on the Avengers: Doomsday writing team with Steven McFeely and a Nova focused TV or film project has long been rumored to be in the works for Marvel; Last week Warner Bros and Legendary released the official trailer for Dune: Part Three, the seemingly epic conclusion to Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbet's fundamental sci-fi source material. The trailer, like the teasers before it, depicts the conflict situated around the rise and fall of Timothee Chalamet's warmongering, would-be messiah, Paul Atriedes, while showcasing the star-studded cast of newcomers, and returning characters in more ways than one. Dune: Part Three has yet to waiver from its December debut coinciding with Avengers: Doomsday; The post-Supergirl DCU has been the subject of much consternation and the latest pieces of news coming from the studio and franchise do little to change the tunes on either side of the chorusline. First, Jimmy Tatro is reportedly in talks to voice Gorilla Grodd in the Jimmy Olsen TV spinoff series that is supposedly titled DC Crime. Elsewhere, Deadline sources claim Xolo Marideuna is set to suit up as the Blue Beetle once more in Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to 2025's Superman.Avengers: Doomsday tickets go on sale July 20, and the early sale announcement comes with a confirmed runtime of 165 minutes. Julianne Nicholson joins Season 2 of HBO's Task, reprising her Emmy-winning Mare of Easttown role as Lori Ross and officially placing the two shows in the same universe. Prime Video released first look images at Carrie, Mike Flanagan's series adaptation of the Stephen King novel, coming this fall. Paramount has closed a deal for U.S. rights to Wes Craven's original A Nightmare on Elm Street screenplay, with plans to adapt it into a new feature. Sam Neill, star of Jurassic Park, The Piano, and In the Mouth of Madness, has died at 78. The live-action Moana opened to $95 million worldwide, well under projections, with Deadline reporting the film stands to lose $100-125 million. Warner Bros. dropped the first trailer for Digger, Alejandro G. Iñárritu's film starring Tom Cruise as oil baron Digger Rockwell, in theaters October 2. The M3GAN spinoff Soulm8te is skipping theaters after being pulled from Universal's calendar and heads straight to digital on August 1. The 2026 Emmy nominations were announced last week and are led by HBO Max's The Pitt with 25 nominations, narrowly ahead of the final season of Hacks with 24, making them the clear frontrunners heading into September's ceremony. The first trailer arrived for Buddy, Casper Kelly's horror comedy starring Cristin Milioti and Keegan-Michael Key, hitting theaters August 28.New Line's The Conuring prequel The Conjuring: First Communion has cast Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix in lead roles. The pair will play young versions of franchise characters Ed and Lorraine Warren.A coalition of a dozen states on Monday sued to block Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, posing a new challenge to the $110 billion deal that would unite two of the nation's largest media companies.

fWotD Episode 3273: Sinestro Corps War Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 21 April 2026, is Sinestro Corps War."Sinestro Corps War" is an American comic book crossover event published by DC Comics in its Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps titles. Written by Geoff Johns and Dave Gibbons and drawn by Ivan Reis, Patrick Gleason, and Ethan Van Sciver, the 11-part saga was originally published between June and December 2007. In addition to the main storyline, four supplemental "Tales of the Sinestro Corps" one-shot specials and a Blue Beetle tie-in issue were concurrently released. The story centers on the Green Lanterns of Earth—Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart and Guy Gardner—and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps as they fight an interstellar war against the Sinestro Corps, an army led by the former Green Lantern Sinestro who are armed with yellow power rings and seek a universe ruled through fear. A 1986 Alan Moore "Tales of the Green Lantern Corps" story was the thematic basis of the storyline. Many characters were changed, killed off, or re-introduced as a result of the event.Critical and fan reception to "Sinestro Corps War" was highly positive. Many reviewers ranked it among the top comic books of the year, and the storyline's first issue garnered a 2008 Eisner Award nomination for Best Penciller/Inker or Penciller/Inker Team. The storyline was also a financial success, and several issues underwent multiple printings. "Sinestro Corps War" is the second part of a trilogy in the Green Lantern storyline, preceded by the 2005 miniseries Green Lantern: Rebirth. The conclusion of "Sinestro Corps War" sets up the third and final part of the trilogy, Blackest Night, which was published in 2009.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:07 UTC on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Sinestro Corps War on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Matthew.

Jen is out sick this week so let's pilot something called LAST ISSUE BLUES…Comic books ending their runs, whether on purpose or due to cancellation, interests me so let's get a little deeper. And by deeper, I mean we will look at the last issue of a series, talk about the character, the run, go thru the final issue and its effectiveness as an ending and maybe hypothesize why it went away. This being a pilot and what not means we might be a bit clunky but hopefully the point will get across. This time out, we will discuss the end of:BLUE BEETLE [vol 6] (1986 to 1988)Ted Kord's having a bad day at the office, getting pushed out the company he helped save when his father fell off and, on top of that, a vengeful suit of armor has walked the floor of the Atlantic Ocean to come give him grief. Dr. Kelson finds himself in a shocking new relationship with consequences that could change the world as he knows it, while Spike's encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can't escape.
