The diplomatic dance continues as Carapace, Sweet Spot, Magnum, and Spindrift push forward in their negotiations with The Quartet, the rulers of the Harmonium. With Cybertron's future on the line, the team must navigate the shifting tides of politics, power, and hidden agendas. Can they present a compelling case for an alliance, or will the Harmonium's elite see Cybertron as more trouble than it's worth? And just how deep do the fractures within the Quartet run? Even after 15 years and a majority sale – reportedly valued at over $650 million – of the company he founded, Bill Creelman remains convinced that Spindrift is just at the beginning of a “real” revolution. Since launching Spindrift in 2010, Bill has built the brand into a powerhouse, generating nearly $300 million in annual retail sales, according to Nielsen IQ. Spindrift is known for its sparkling water made with real fruit juice and purees, with no added sugars or added flavors. The brand has expanded its portfolio to include hard seltzers and, more recently, a mid-calorie soda line that harkens back to Spindrift's original mission of delivering authentic, high-quality beverages. Earlier this year, private equity firm Gryphon Investors acquired a majority stake in Spindrift. As part of this transition, veteran CPG executive Dave Burwick stepped in as CEO, while Bill now serves as chairman of the board. Together, Bill and Dave are leading Spindrift into its next chapter, one focused on real ingredients and sustainable growth. For Bill, the future is full of endless possibilities. As he shared in our conversation, “The most surprising part is realizing just how much further we can go.” In this episode, Bill and Dave dive into the importance of staying true to a vision, executing it with patience, and creating a brand that resonates with today's conscious consumers. They explore how ambition, when guided by intentionality, leads to real, sustainable growth. Bill and Dave also discuss why Spindrift's innovation strategy is grounded in the belief that the world is ready for beverages that prioritize quality, transparency, and authenticity. Show notes: 0:25: Interview: Bill Creelman, Founder & Dave Burwick, CEO, Spindrift – Bill and Dave reflect on Spindrift's journey since its inception in 2010, starting with refrigerated sodas in iconic longneck glass bottles, and how the brand is now revisiting its origins with a new line of canned sodas. They discuss Spindrift's premium positioning and its ability to maintain a higher price point in an increasingly crowded market, emphasizing why consumers are willing to pay more for a product that delivers authenticity and exceptional quality. The founders attribute the brand's ability to uphold its integrity and solidify its market position to its unwavering commitment to real ingredients and flavor innovation. They also explore the concept of "refreshment" in the beverage space, discussing untapped potential within Spindrift's core business and the vital role of strategic partnerships, like Gryphon, in fueling the brand's sustained growth. Reflecting on the company's progress, Bill acknowledges the challenges they've faced, emphasizing the importance of staying true to their vision during difficult times and remaining focused on long-term success. Brands in this episode: Spindrift, Olipop, Poppi, Truly

This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Zach Kazan is joined by Garrett Jones and Devin Pennypacker to talk about one of our favorite subjects: under the radar watches. We all know about the usual suspects: your Submariners, your Speedmasters, your Seiko divers, and so on. But there's a whole world of watches out there to be discovered, and the team is here to help you find some that are bubbling just beneath the surface. Our panel discusses how we define an “under the radar” watch in the first place, and then provides a whole bunch of recommendations across a variety of categories. Just to make things interesting, we set a limit of $1,500 per watch in an effort to prove you don't have to spend a lot of money to find something interesting, unusual, and rewarding. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast on all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, and more. You can also find our RSS feed here. And if you like what you hear, then don't forget to leave us a review. If there's a question you want us to answer you can hit us up at info@wornandwound.com, and we'll put your question in the queue. Aura Bora is acquired. Hiyo adds $19 million and a strategic partner. And Celsius drops $1.8 billion on Alani Nu. Oh, and Spindrift is back in the soda biz. Yeah, it's been a busy week, and the hosts have lots to say. We also sit down with Alex Duong, the founder & CEO of Fair & Square and Lena Zhuravsky, the founder of passionfruit centric-beverage brand Passion Joy. Show notes: 0:25: Party Gras. Skeptics & Price Points. Hiyo, Mike! Energy Cannibals. Full Circle. More Pizza? Who Eats Protein Pasta? – Jacqui is prepping for a big event, and it's not Expo West. Everyone has a take on Aura Bora's exit, including the Linkedin crowd. What makes Hiyo's positioning so attractive to consumers.. and investors? So, should we expect folks to have a can of Celsius in one hand and Alani Nu in the other? Perfect – another pizza drink. We love a couple of U.K.-based beverage brands, and a ginseng-centric one from here in the good ol' U.S.A. We finish with fish and pasta (just don't overcook it). 36:35: Interview: Alex Duong, Founder & CEO, Fair & Square – Alex is the founder and CEO of Fair and Square, an emerging brand of gut-friendly crackers inspired by childhood favorites. At a recent networking event hosted by industry organization Naturally San Diego, Alex discussed how his experience in the CPG industry has shaped his approach to brand-building. He also talks about the importance of patience and staying true to core values as an early-stage entrepreneur. 46:17: Interview: Lena Zhuravsky, Founder, Passion Joy – Lena is the founder of Passion Joy, a new brand of sparkling beverages with passion fruit at its core. As part of our conversation, Lena shares her vision for expanding distribution of Passion Joy in the U.S. and internationally, with plans to target major retailers and eventually compete on a global scale. Brands in this episode: Aura Bora, Hiyo, Alani Nu, Celsius, Spindrift, Bubluv, Trip, Kejoy, Perfy, Something & Nothing, Quinn Snacks, Ginsa, Cowbell Hydration, OHY, Brami, Banza, Wild Planet, Fishwife, Heyday Canning, Scout Fish, Hungry Boy Hot Sauce
In the 48th episode of the ECM podcast we're joined by the German-American pianist Benjamin Lackner, to discuss his new record "Spindrift", recorded with Mathias Eick, Mark Turner, Linda May Han Oh and Matthieu Chazarenc - produced by Manfred Eicher. Benjamin talks about dynamics in the band, creative process and routine, the healing properties of music and more.
What lessons can we extract from the acquisition of Simple Mills and majority sale of Spindrift, valued at nearly $1.5 billion combined? The hosts talk about what these better-for-you brands did right and what made them attractive to strategic companies and investors. We also sit down with Marcin Malyszko and Amit Singh, the co-founders of Mission Cocktails, a purpose-driven brand of premium ready-to-serve bottled cocktails. Show notes: 0:25: Las Diego. Big(ish) Food Was Listening. Neighbor's Big Pay Day. Hopped Up. Imposters, Deer & Bears. – John and Ray are heading west. Are you as well? Let them know. Nearly a year after Ray's rant, Simple Mills got its flowers. So did Spindrift, but we still don't have a vending machine. We're happy that hop-infused water is finally getting its due (at least from the New York Times), but less pleased with an oddly-named brand of non-alcoholic spirits. John highlights an animal-themed water, and Mike does the same, but for a ginger beer, before Jacqui praises purple snacks. 27:27: Interview: Marcin Malyszko & Amit Singh, Co-Founders, Mission Cocktails – A brand of premium ready-to-serve cocktails that donates 5% of gross revenue to local food banks, Mission Cocktails launched in 2023 and markets several products, including a Manhattan, a Margarita and a Mai Tai, all packaged in 375 mL glass bottles. The brand is sold in over 500 retail stores, including Gelson's, BevMo, Pavilions and Whole Foods. Marcin and Amit discuss the origins of Mission Cocktails and how their focus on “liquid to lips” and persistent effort to connect with retail executives has helped the brand make significant strides over the past 12 months. Brands in this episode: Mission Cocktails, Simple Mills, Nature's Own, Dave's Killer Bread, Wonder, Canyon Bakehouse, Tastykake, Samuel Adams, Peet's Coffee, Stirrings, Partake Brewing, Athletic Brewing Co., Lacroix, HopLark, Hop Wtr, Imposter Beverages, Father's Deer, Liquid Death, Bear & Beaver, Purplesful Snacks

Picture it: A sunny fall day. You're about to bite into the juiciest, crispiest, most delicious apple you've ever tasted. SIKE! You've opened a can of Fuji Apple flavored Spindrift. It's Sparkling Water AND Real Fruit. Because, allegedly, "real fruit tastes better". Music by Steven O'Brien.
On this week's Modern Retail Rundown, the staff discusses the state of mall traffic, including Simon's big marketing-fueled boost on Black Friday weekend. Additionally, we dive into a Wall Street Journal report that PE firm Gryphon Investors is eyeing an acquisition of sparkling water brand Spindrift worth $650 million. Moreover, Foot Locker lowered its holiday quarter guidance as it struggles, some of which the retailer blamed on slowing Nike sales.

Maya Saroya gives an expressive performance in Hafsah Faizal's thrilling YA historical fantasy filled with vampires, action, romance, and tea. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Emily Connelly discuss this compelling story set in a richly built world packed with secrets—performed beautifully. Saroya portrays Arthie Casimir in a smooth, deadly tone that highlights her fierce determination to protect those she loves. Arthie's an outsider in Etenia, but she's created a safe haven in her tearoom, Spindrift, where her crew serves tea by day and blood to vampires under the cover of night. Saroya moves easily into the points of view of Jin, Arthie's charming yet deadly brother, and Flick, a forger whose voice reveals her upper-crust background. This week I'm diving into a Spindrift project and researching new tenders. My last one met an unfortunate, and unexpected, end. Enjoy!
It's a classic summer flavor that brings sunshine straight to your mouth. Lemon by Spindrift is not just sparkling water, it's also real squeezed fruit. That's it, that's all that is in the can. There's no actual sunshine inside, but if you imagine for just a moment you can almost taste the sun's warm ripening rays kissing the rind of the lemons that were squeezed into this can.
A compelling combination of Six of Crows and Peaky Blinders is the way that book promoters have been selling the third novel by American author Hafsah Faizal. As someone who has never seen Peaky Blinders, but loved Six of Crows (see my review of that from 2021), does this claim actually ring true? Enter White Roaring, a town that is full of intrigue and insurrection. A town under the tyrannical rule of the mysterious Ram and meet Arthie and Jin Casimir, proprietors of Spindrift, a charming tea room with a secret. All is not as it seems on the surface, and that becomes much clearer when you realise that Arthie is a schemer, going after what she wants whatever the cost...and right now what she wants is in the Athereum; a ledger that can help her and others to take down the powers that rule so unfairly...but will they succeed? Before I read this book I had heard so much about it, the reviews are mixed, so which side of the track will mine fall? And more importantly...I won't spoil it to reveal my thoughts! It's not technically a seltzer, this one is 92% sparkling water with 8% real squeezed fruit. On this episode we learn a little bit about what a blood orange is, confirm that it does not contain blood, and realize that perhaps Elle has Citrus Taste Blindness. Spindrift makes a very bold claim about real fruit tasting better, but better than what? That's just, like, your opinion man. Steven O'Brien plays us out.

A. Magnus and Fox & Oden. Fabry spoke about CraftCo's distilling philosophy, how it operates at the intersection of production, consumer demand and pricing, and how he attempts to improve upon and become more proficient in his role. Whaddup y'all? We hope everybody is doing just great! On this episode we had the pleasure of sitting down with Major Chisholm of Creative Liberty podcast. Major came on Jamey's radar through Whiskerino (which was a beard growing group, look it up if you don't know), and they formed a relationship through taking time together to explore life without alcohol. To kick the episode off we get into the beard talk, which was a rather robust conversation on facial hair. Next we move into the beverage portion of the episode-shoutout to Rambler and Spindrift sparkling waters, as well as Athletic Brewing and Sober Carpenter brewing to help us get some flavor without the alcohol. Lastly we get into chopping it up about Jamey and Major's journey into living alcohol free. They share how they encouraged each other and what it took to maintain sticking to their commitment. Sixteen years ago, Sweetgreen set out to redefine how consumers perceive fast food by offering crave-worthy meals made with clean and traceable ingredients and sold at an affordable price. Co-founder Nicolas Jammet has long been at the forefront of Sweetgreen's menu strategy, and in his role as chief concept officer, he is tasked with maintaining the company's high standards for quality and consistency in every bowl, snack and beverage sold in its restaurants. With nearly 160 locations across the U.S. and plans for 1,000 total by 2030, his job is becoming increasingly complex. Later, BevNET's director of community Melissa Traverse joined the episode and spoke about recent and upcoming episodes of Community Call, and the hosts riffed on several notable brands including a canned boba tea and a functional granola. 30:41: Interview: Michelle Razavi & Nikki Elliott, Co-Founders, Elavi – Michelle Razavi and Nikki Elliott are the co-founders of Elavi, which markets low-sugar and gut-friendly protein bars and cashew butters. Taste Radio's hosts pondered the potential of innovative, yet imaginary, concepts; examined why discontinued brands and products – including a line of high-profile energy shots – failed to make it; and riffed upon a bevy of new snacks and drinks. This episode also features an interview with Alexandra Dempster and Isabelle Steichen, the co-founders of Lupii, an innovative platform brand that markets lupini bean-based foods. Launched in 2020, Lupii debuted with a line of plant-based protein bars highlighted by its hero ingredient, which the brand promotes as “a high-fiber legume that has 2x more protein than chickpeas and 3x more protein than eggs.” In August 2022, Lupii expanded with a three-SKU line of high-protein and high fiber pastas that contain significantly less carbs than those made with traditional ingredients. The brand is represented in hundreds of chain and independent retailers, primarily in the Northeast, Midwest and Pacific Northwest, including Whole Foods, Safeway and Jewel-Osco. Dempster and Steichen spoke about Lupii's origins and their alignment as co-founders, how they shifted from “survival mode” amid the early months of the pandemic to a focus on thoughtful growth at retail, how they were able to attract interest and funding from angel investors and their vision and plan to develop a platform brand. Show notes: 0:37: How To Meet Top Whole Foods Executives, Scotch Spray, The Fiddy/Craven Connection – Less than a week from BevNET's Meetup at the company's Newton, MA HQ, the hosts highlighted recently announced speakers for BevNET Live Summer 2023 and wondered if some products conceptualized as April Fool's jokes should be commercialized. Ray stirred the pot with his bag of discontinued brands, including those of a cap-activated chia beverage, a blue recovery drink and 50 Cent's energy shot, along with a brain-boosting product with a rather controversial name, before chatting about a highly anticipated collaboration between two massive companies, super-premium chorizo and better-for-you refreshment drinks. 31:51: Interview: Alexandra Dempster & Isabelle Steichen, Co-Founders, Lupii – Taste Radio editor Ray Latif met with Lupii's co-founders at Expo West 2023, where Steichen spoke about how a diverse population in her native country of Luxembourg exposed her to Lupini beans and their nutritional value as compared to other sources of plant and animal-based protein, why she sought to find a co-founder to launch to the brand and how she and Alexandra formed a bond and common vision for the company. They also discussed how they applied consumer insights from early DTC sales to a brick and mortar retail strategy, identifying Lupii's core consumer, how they articulate the brand's “trifecta of benefits,” iterating amid growth, achieving a “sweet spot” within the pasta category and their perspective on venture funding for women-owned and -led brands. A home with just about the scariest title you could have. The brownstone that sits at 14 West 10th Street is known to some as The House of Death. Supposedly a LOT of people have died there over the years, and now it's one of the most haunted homes in America. Then it's the tale of Jackson County, Florida's Bellamy Bridge. Has the ghost of a young bride been haunting this bridge since the mid-19th century? Lynze also takes us to Florida for a haunted hotel room with an especially strong and scary entity. Then, a sweet story? It's hard to say if a young woman's mom is reaching beyond the grave to guide and protect her daughter. That's up to you to decide!
