This week's EYE ON NPI will extend your power supply options, it's Diodes Inc's AP3377 series USB PD3.1 Sink Controllers (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/d/diodes/ap3377-usb-sink-controllers) a pair of chips that take the USB Type Power Delivery Sink specification to new highs with extended voltage ranges and two methods of configuration: the AP33772S (https://www.digikey.com/short/59d9mbvm) has I2C control interface while the AP33771C (https://www.digikey.com/short/022nd0fp) has two resistors to set the voltage and current limit. We've covered USB Power delivery sink controllers on EYE ON NPI before (https://www.digikey.com/short/59d9mbvm) with chips that can be configured to request higher voltages than 5V from a USB port. This is a boon for getting rid of DC jacks with various voltage and current ratings. It also helps prevent accidents where folks plug in a 12V power supply into a 5V port just because the plug is the same size. With classic USB power delivery, the client device communicates over the CC pins to the upstream computer or power plug to request any of the standard voltages: 5V, 9V, 12V (optional), 15V, or 20V and from 1A up to 5A. With software negotiation, the sink can figure out what power supply voltages are available then accept or reject to get the best power supply efficiency and performance. As we see adoption across many industries to use standard USB C, the power needs have also been expanded! As of USB PD v3.1 there is now Extended Power Range (https://www.usb.org/usb-charger-pd) which adds "three new fixed voltages: 28V (above 100W), 36V (above 140W) and 48V (above 180W)" for charging bigger devices like laptops or electric scooters. Plus a "new adjustable voltage mode enabling a range from 15V to one of three maximum voltages (28V, 36V, or 48V) depending on the available power allowing the device being powered to request specific voltages to a 100 mV resolution." That first quote is pretty clear: we now just have bigger voltages available so we can keep under the 5A current limit that fixes how much current the contacts themselves can handle with standard USB C ports/cables. The second is interesting because it implies we can now select voltages that are outside the standard issue. Now AVS only allows adjustment over 15V, probably this was a compromise since there's big jumps between 28/36/48V. There's also a separate variable-voltage specification called Programmable Power Supply (https://hackaday.com/2025/03/24/pps-is-the-hottest-usb-c-feature-you-didnt-know-about/) a.k.a PPS a.ka. "Fast Charge" (https://www.usb.org/node/585) which allows finer resolution from 3.3V up to 21V - or whatever is the max voltage on the power adapter - in 20mV voltage steps and 50mA current steps. Popularized by tablet/phone maker Samsung but now is appearing on other devices, it recognizes that often times charging speed is limited by the thermal dissipation capabilities of the charging circuitry. That is to say, even with buck converters, if they use tiny SMT parts there's still an 'optimal' voltage and current level that will give the best efficiency and thus charge rate. Just like not all voltages are always supported by USB PD power supplies, PPS support is not required so check the side of the adapter or the manual, to see if it mentions PPS and the voltage/current range. For PPS support, you need to use the AP33772S (https://www.digikey.com/short/59d9mbvm) because there's fine tuning required. But if you just want 'every day' AVS/PD support, where you can select the voltage and current required, the AP33771C (https://www.digikey.com/short/022nd0fp) is much simpler. Instead of having a full I2C setup and configuration, two resistors are queried on power up and used to auto-negotiate. The onboard LED can provide some basic feedback on whether negotiation succeeded. According to the AP33772S datasheet, there is a variant of the chip, AP33772SDKZ-13-FA02 (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/diodes-incorporated/AP33772SDKZ-13-FA02/27346457) that supports having VSEL resistor for initial voltage configuration - that part is available for special order only. If you want a simple, low-cost way to add USB Type C power delivery with extended voltage support and PPS capabilities, the the AP33772S (https://www.digikey.com/short/59d9mbvm) and AP33771C (https://www.digikey.com/short/022nd0fp) are easy ways to make customizable or stand-alone power supplies easy. Now there's no excuse to not convert your next design to run on USB and ditch that confusing DC power plug for good! Whichever one you choose, they're both in stock right now at DigiKey for immediate shipment. There's even eval boards (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/d/diodes/ap3377-usb-sink-controllers) to get your design kick-started fast. Order today and you'll have fresh chips in hand by tomorrow to make your power delivery dreams come true.

This week's EYE ON NPI is tick tock o'clock, it's the Abracon Real-Time Clock with Integrated 32.768 kHz Crystal Oscillator (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/a/abracon/real-time-clock-with-integrated-32-768-khz-crystal-oscillator). It's a tiny and affordable all-in-one RTC that has everything ya want, and nothin' ya don't. With it's compact package size, it's half the BOM size of what most RTC's need, and has a high quality Abracon crystal (https://www.digikey.com/en/supplier-centers/abracon) already included! We've been using Abracon (https://www.digikey.com/en/supplier-centers/abracon) crystals and oscillators in our designs for decades - for example a 12.288 MHz Crystal (https://www.digikey.com/short/w2qvtnbr) adorns our VS1053 breakout board (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1381). That's not the only thing they're good at, but it's the name recognition they've got as a trusted supplier of quality, affordable crystals and oscillators. So it was not surprising for us to learn that they now have an integrated-crystal real time clock chip for sale. Real time clock chips are specialty low-cost chips that keep track of 'real time' (e.g. the month, day, year, hour, minute, second) so that the rest of the system can go into shutdown mode or lose power, without losing track of time. They also often have alarms so that the system can reboot out of deep sleep to perform some task at an assigned delay or timestamp. As you might expect, the important characteristics to look for in an RTC are accuracy - how close their internal timekeeping is to true time - and power draw - how long they can run off the secondary power source such as a super-cap or coin cell battery (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/panasonic-energy/CR-1025-BN/269738). There's other characteristics that you may care about: the voltage range they can power off of, whether they support a secondary battery backup with auto-switchover, and of course the interface and capabilities like alarms The AB-RTC-XB-32.768KHZ-2-T3 (https://www.digikey.com/short/tp4tjzqz) has many of the things we like to look for in an RTC. First, is a standard I2C interface - most RTCs are, and this makes it easy to add to any microcontroller or microcomputer. Second is a wide operating voltage range for power and logic: 1.2V to 5.5V with both a power and IO power pad! That means it's great even for low voltage cores or 5V Arduino-compatibles, and you can have separate voltages if desired. Alongside those two pins there's also a separate VBat pin for backup battery with auto-switchover. That means when the main power cuts off, say because USB got unplugged, or the main Lipoly battery is drained, we'll switch over to a coin cell or super-cap. Of course, the big feature of this RTC is the built-in crystal. By integrating directly, they're able to have an SMT chip with no external crystal in a 3.2 x 2.5mm package - the same size as most crystals! According to the datasheet, the crystal has a 5 ±23ppm frequency stability at room temp 25℃. That translates to 28 ppm max: 86,400 × (28/1,000,000) = 2.42 seconds gain/loss per day. At the typical 'best case' of 5ppm, its 86,400 × (5/1,000,000) = 0.432 seconds per day. That's in-line with most RTC crystal specifications, although it wouldn't be considered 'high precision' since its not temperature compensated. Temp compensation is much more complex and expected, and most RTCs will get auto-sync from the controller via WiFi/BT/GPS to apply correction every day~month to get them back on track. If you need a compact real time clock with a flexible power supply setup and Abracon-quality crystal, the AB-RTC-XB-32.768KHZ-2-T3 (https://www.digikey.com/short/tp4tjzqz) is an excellent new product offering that's available and in stock at DigiKey right now! Order today and before your morning alarm goes off you'll have this chip in hand and ready to integrate into your next product design.

Measuring the header height, it's 8.5mm tall, so we want 6mm x 6mm SMT tactile switches with more than 8.5mm actuator height from PCB (but no more than 11mm). Let's see what is available at Digi-Key! Special Guest: Joey Drollshagen In this powerful episode of Podcast Profits Unleashed, I sit down with business coach Joey Drollshagen, a media-savvy expert who's been featured on Fox, NBC, and CBS. Joey opens up about his transformative journey, from growing up in a tough blue-collar family in Detroit to finding success by shifting his mindset through subconscious programming. He reveals how overcoming childhood struggles and years of trial and error led him to discover the life-changing power of subconscious mindset training (SMT), which completely reshaped both his personal and professional life. As a coach today, Joey helps business owners and corporate sales leaders unlock their potential by identifying the subconscious programming that holds them back. He teaches his clients to break free from limiting beliefs and design personalized systems that align with their true selves, rather than following generic strategies. He emphasizes that success is unique to each individual, and the key to rapid growth lies in creating accelerated, personalized habits. Joey explains how societal conditioning, especially regarding money and hard work, often holds people back. By breaking through these patterns, people can step into new opportunities that better align with their strengths and passions. He stresses the importance of embracing your individuality and forging a path that's true to your own vision for success. In this episode, Joey also discusses how limiting beliefs, particularly the “glass ceiling” mentality, can restrict business growth, and shares advice on how to challenge these self-imposed barriers. He offers insights on the discomfort of stepping outside your comfort zone and how it's essential for growth. His SMT method is a game changer for anyone looking to break through mental limitations and unlock their full potential. Key takeaways: Subconscious mindset training (SMT) can lead to rapid transformation in business and life. Success is personal, and one-size-fits-all strategies don't work. Breakthrough limiting beliefs to unlock new opportunities. Embrace discomfort as a catalyst for growth. Don't miss this inspiring conversation that will help you tap into your true potential and achieve success on your own terms. Welcome back to Podcast Profits Unleashed! In today's episode, I'm sharing my three powerful tips on how I turn podcast guests into high-ticket clients without ever using a hard sales pitch. It's all about building genuine connections, not selling, and I'm going to show you exactly how you can do this too, in a way that feels effortless, authentic, and truly adds value. First, pre-qualify your guests as potential clients. It's crucial to be intentional about who you invite onto your podcast. Think of it like hosting a dinner party—you wouldn't just invite anyone off the street, right? Your podcast guests should align with your ideal client profile. Do a bit of research beforehand to see if their challenges and goals match what you can help with. This isn't about being exclusive; it's about being effective. Next, build a real relationship. During the interview, forget about selling and focus on genuinely getting to know your guest. Ask open-ended questions, dig deeper into their story, and really listen. The magic happens when your guest feels comfortable enough to open up about their struggles. The goal is to plant seeds—not solve everything right then and there. The more they trust you, the more likely they'll remember how you made them feel, which is far more important than any advice you offer in the moment. Finally, offer a follow-up, not a pitch. After the interview, don't just send a generic thank-you email. Instead, extend the conversation with a genuine offer to help, without any strings attached. Simply say something like, “I loved our conversation today, and I've been thinking about what you shared. I have a few ideas—would you be open to a call to discuss them further?” This shifts the conversation from a sales pitch to a collaborative discussion, where you can truly offer value. Key Takeaways: Pre-qualify guests to align with your ideal client profile. Focus on building genuine relationships, not making a sale during the interview. Follow up with a helpful offer, not a sales pitch. By following these steps, you'll turn your podcast into a business growth tool. It's not manipulation—it's alignment, collaboration, and trust. If you're ready to launch your own podcast and need guidance, book a complimentary strategy call with me at podcastprofitsunleashed.com/appointment. I'd love to help you grow your podcast and your business. Thanks for tuning in!

This week, we're designing a 1.8" round TFT PCB with a capacitive touch display. It's got a nice overhanging lip, which means we can mount it flush to a front panel. That means we don't want to have mounting holes on the front. Instead, let's use SMT nuts that pick up and place on and give a strong mounting spot while allowing the TFT to sit flat. This coming year, we wanted to update our storage and organization: with about 700 original designs, a couple dozen in progress, and thousands of items in the shop, it's hard to keep track of all the components and devboards we need to test various combinations. Historically, we've used double-sided totes (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1149), which are good, but the double-sidedness is a bit annoying, or the little divider boxes for small breakouts (https://www.adafruit.com/product/2938), and snap-top boxes for SMT components (https://www.adafruit.com/search?q=modular+snap). But all these cases were sort of swimming around, and it was getting unwieldy. We're going to try to use the large IKEA ALEX drawers (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/alex-drawer-unit-on-casters-gray-turquoise-50483449/#content) - we like them cause they're wide and thin - and maybe use something like gridfinity (https://gridfinity.xyz/) to make a flat storage surface so we can quickly find any PCB or part we need. Connor Zilisch made his debut in the Xfinity Series a memorable one by winning at Watkins Glen. Denny Hamlin and co-host Jared Allen break down Connor's race and why he is a sure-fire thing in the Cup Series. On the flipside, Denny's race didn't go so well on Sunday. On the first lap he was involved in a wreck and his day was almost over. Luckily the “A Team” crushed it and got him back out racing. With bad luck once again, Denny's crew chief might be starting to believe Lulu the dog is the reason for the lack of results lately.Lap 1 wasn't the only wreck Denny was involved in. Later in the race he was in another wreck, this time with Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson. Denny explains what happened and why this wreck wasn't on him. While the Playoffs haven't been kind to Denny, Bristol is the next race and the 11 team will be on the offense the entire time. Plus, they discuss how many points he needs to advance.Ryan Blaney was involved in the lap 1 wreck and wasn't happy with NASCAR. But, Denny explains why what happened was the right call.Everyone was expecting lots of tire falloff on Sunday but that's not exactly what happened. The question is, why?Chris Buescher and SVG had an amazing battle to win. Denny pulls up the SMT data to find out what the difference was.NASCAR is headed back to Bristol. Will we see lots of tire wear like the last race at Bristol, or will the race be different? Denny Hamlin is joined by co-host Jared Allen after an interesting end to the race in Richmond on Sunday night.Denny explains why he wasn't mad about restarting third on the final restart and he was expecting a wreck. Once Joey Logano was wrecked by Austin Dillon, Denny thought the checkered flag was his. Dillon ended up right-hooking Denny and while some claimed Denny went up the track, he says the SMT data shows Dillon hooked him.Denny is now calling on NASCAR to make the tough call and enforce the rules.Dillon's spotter was animated at the end and Denny wasn't a fan of how he handled himself. The guys also discuss what the penalty should be for Dillon if given one considering a points penalty or money really doesn't change much. If no penalty is handed down, does this mean it's open season for drivers to wreck people going forward? And what stops anyone from wrecking someone to win the championship in Phoenix? The format of "win and you're in the Playoffs" didn't help prevent this incident either. And, should one win punch a driver's ticket to playoffs or does the format need changed? The integrity of the sport is on the line depending on what NASCAR decides to do, especially since Dillon wrecked not one but two drivers to win the race.Logano made it known on pit road he wasn't happy with Dillon, but Denny doesn't see a fine coming to him for what he did.Plus, NASCAR had option tires for the first time and Denny thinks they need to use those tires full-time on short tracks. In other NASCAR news, 23XI has a third driver coming up at Wakins Glen and Corey LaJoie is out a Spire after this year.
