Top Gun with Mecha and reckless fighter pilots, involved in a love triangle involving a 4th party AI, ‘plus' the kitchen sink. Macross Plus is an anime film from 1995 based on the 4 part miniseries cartoon of the same name. This is a continuation from the Macross Franchise also called Robotech from the 80's.This Shōji Kawamori directed film is set in the year 2040, 3 decades after the previous situation with the war between Humans and the Zentradi Aliens. The three main characters are Isamu, Guld, and Myung who were high school friends on a planet called Eden, but after an incident that happened years prior they went their separate ways. Years later they met back up again, as the two boys were now highly respected fighter jocks who flew experimental mechas (hybrid robot/jets.) Also back on the scene is Myung who was the prior love interest of the men, and despite their friendship from years prior, there is now a hostility that exists between them. Through the film they are constantly fighting with each other, but a much worse threat looms on the horizon and that is a new AI model that is set to take over the masses through pop culture and its deceptive ways. Little did the boys know, but Myung was actually the one who was using her own experiences to train this new artificial intelligence. Sharon Apple the AI begins to have plans of her own and the three come together to stop it.This film had some very good reviews on IMDB and has a bit of a cult following. The four of us all have a different take on the film, when it comes to the plot, the music, and the animation. There seems to be many references to other films, one being that the AI might be based on the actor Sharon Stone.By the Creators of Cowboy Bebop and written by Keiko Nobumoto, Takumi Yamazaki as Isamu, Unshou Ishizuka as Guld, Rica Fukami as Myung, Megumi Hayashibara as Lucy McMillan, and Mako Hyōdō as Sharon Apple. In Season 6, Episode 5 of Global Taiwan Insights, Ben Sando interviews Dr. Eun A Jo, an Assistant Professor at William and Mary and expert on South Korean politics. In June this year, the Democratic Party of Korea's Lee Jae Myung was elected president, triggering speculation that South Korea would discontinue its policy of clear alignment with the United States. Before Lee took office, Seoul had been working with Tokyo and Washington on military and economic collaboration intended to deter both China and North Korea. As a non-traditional politician, Lee's policies towards Taiwan are not easy to predict, and Jo explains how we can interpret his early political decisions.

Top trade negotiators for the US and China said they came to terms on a range of contentious points, setting the table for leaders Donald Trump and Xi Jinping to finalize a deal and ease trade tensions that have rattled global markets. After two days of talks in Malaysia wrapped up Sunday, a Chinese official said the two sides reached a preliminary consensus on topics including export controls, fentanyl and shipping levies. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Trump’s threat of 100% tariffs on Chinese goods “is effectively off the table” and he expected the Asian nation to make “substantial” soybean purchases as well as offer a deferral on sweeping rare earth controls. Bessent spoke in separate interviews on NBC, CBS and ABC. The US wouldn’t change its export controls directed at China, he added. For more, we heard from Bloomberg’s China Correspondent Minmin Low. The Bank of Japan is widely expected to stand pat at this week’s policy meeting, but chances of a near-term rate hike are rising given the currency’s weakness, which risks pushing up domestic inflation further. For a preview, we heard from Takahide Kiuchi, Nomura Research Institute Executive Economist and Former BOJ Board Member. He spoke to Bloomberg’s Shery Ahn and Avril Hong. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung says Seoul and Washington remain stuck on “all” the major details of a $350 billion investment pledge. His comments come days before an expected meeting with President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Gyeongju. In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, Jeongmin, John and Joon Ha examine a turbulent stretch for U.S.-ROK relations and President Lee Jae-myung 100-day-old administration. They start with the dramatic ICE raid on Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution's battery-plant project in Georgia, where more than 300 South Korean engineers were detained before a chartered flight carried them home. The team traces the raid's origins, the swift diplomatic response from Seoul and the broader questions it raises about U.S. visa policy and the investment climate for Korean firms. Next, they break down Lee Jae-myung's 100-day press conference, highlighting his criticism of the U.S. raid, his call for national unity and his policy priorities on economic recovery and renewable energy. The hosts assess how Lee's direct style and focus on communication are shaping perceptions at home and abroad. Finally, they look ahead to Freedom Edge trilateral military drills between the U.S., South Korea and Japan, and to the intensifying race within Japan's Liberal Democratic Party to replace Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The leaders will also discuss nuclear issues, with South Korea's foreign minister saying the country may seek U.S. approval to reprocess or enrich its own nuclear material for industrial purposes.Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Salvadoran man at the center of a high-profile deportation case, reported to an ICE field office early on Monday with a number of supporters. The flurry of summitry in 2018-19 between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in inspired hopes for a breakthrough on resolving a decades-old conflict, only for talks to collapse without any progress on the DPRK nuclear issue. This week, historian John Delury returns to the podcast to revisit that heady time on the Korean Peninsula and explore what Seoul's new President Lee Jae-myung might do to revive Trump-Kim diplomacy. He explains why Russia-DPRK ties ensure that another round of engagement won't look like the last and examines how China's ties with the South impact its approach to the North. He also talks about Kim Jong Un's desire to be a “developmental dictator,” the potential impact of the U.S. bombing of Iran on efforts to entice Pyongyang to negotiations and why there is no military solution to the North Korea problem. John Delury is a historian of modern China and an expert on U.S.-China relations and Korean Peninsula affairs. The author of “Agents of Subversion,” he previously served as a professor of Chinese studies at Yonsei University in Seoul and most recently taught at the American Academy in Rome, Luiss University and John Cabot University. In this episode, Dr. Victor Cha, Mr. Jake Kwon, and Mr. Wonchul Kim discussed recent political developments under President Lee's administration, outcomes of the G7 Summit, and the future direction of U.S.–ROK and U.S.–ROK–Japan relations.
In this week's episode, the Korea Pro team reviews President Lee Jae-myung's appearance at the G7 summit, including his meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Notably absent was a sit-down with U.S. President Donald Trump, who left early amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The war's impact on global energy prices is already being felt in South Korea, raising concerns about inflation just as Lee faces mounting pressure to revive a slowing economy. The team also examines the U.S. Federal Reserve's rate freeze and what it means for the Bank of Korea's already limited policy space. The trio also discusses the parliamentary hearing for National Intelligence Service nominee Lee Jong-seok, where his past comments on North Korea drew scrutiny. Looking ahead, the team previews next week's NATO summit in The Hague, the parliamentary hearing for Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok and South Korea's upcoming commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Korean War. durée : 00:11:47 - L'invité d'un jour dans le monde - Le progressiste Lee Jae-myung, 61 ans, a remporté l'élection présidentielle sud-coréenne, mardi 3 juin.
Lee Jae-myung has officially become South Korea's new president.
Lee Jae-myung takes the oath of office as South Korea's new president (1:07). The U.S. raises tariffs on imported steel and aluminum to 50%, doubling the previous rate (12:39). Gaza Humanitarian Foundation announces temporary closure of its aid distribution centers amid recent chaos (16:10).
North Korea's new warship remains submerged on its side more than 10 days after the embarrassing failure to side-launch the vessel last month, despite DPRK experts' confidence that they could right the ship. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made only a passing mention of North Korea at the Shangri-La Dialogue over the weekend, even as officials talked behind the scenes about wanting U.S. Forces Korea to play a bigger role in countering China. And Lee Jae-myung appears poised to claim the South Korean presidency in Tuesday's snap election, setting up potential changes in inter-Korean policy. This week, NK News CEO Chad O'Caroll and Lead Correspondent Shreyas Reddy join the podcast to discuss all these events during a busy week on the peninsula, as the ROK prepares to finally fill a monthslong leadership vacuum since Yoon Suk-yeol's ill-fated declaration of martial law and subsequent impeachment. They also talk about why North Korea will likely do little in response to a new president in Seoul and explore why Kim Jong Un should worry about Ukrainian drones following Kyiv's stunning attack on Russian assets far from the front lines. About the podcast: The North Korea News Podcast is a weekly podcast hosted by Jacco Zwetsloot exclusively for NK News, covering all things DPRK — from news to extended interviews with leading experts and analysts in the field, along with insight from our very own journalists.

With voters turning out in record numbers, South Korea has elected liberal leader Lee Jae-myung to lead the country left in turmoil by the brief imposition of martial law by Yoon Suk Yeol. The nation of 51 million people has the world's lowest birth rate and is now a "super-aged" society. South Korea saw its GDP forecast downgraded this Tuesday by the OECD as the group revised down growth prospects for most of the world amid US President Donald Trump's trade war.

In this week's episode, Jeongmin and Joon Ha dive into the fissure within the ruling People Power Party as presidential nominee Kim Moon-soo files a court injunction to block party efforts to replace him, accusing leaders of coercion to merge his candidacy with former Acting President Han Duck-soo. Kim has threatened to form a surprise “big tent” alliance with unexpected political figures, reportedly including former Justice Party leader Sim Sang-jeung, if dropped. The duo also unpacks the Seoul High Court's decision to delay Democratic Party nominee Lee Jae-myung's retrial, giving him a clear pathway to the presidency. They break down the Czech court's injunction against Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power's $18 billion nuclear deal, and the duo look ahead to the Taeguk military exercise, campaign rallies and possible TV debates. This week's episode opens with Jeongmin walking us through a rollercoaster week in South Korean politics. Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung secured the party's presidential nomination over former Gyeonggi governor Kim Dong-yeon last week, while the People Power Party (PPP) narrowed its primary field to former party leader Han Dong-hoon and former labor minister Kim Moon-soo. The team then breaks down the dramatic sequence that followed: a surprise Supreme Court ruling in Lee's election law case, and — just one hour later — Acting President Han Duck-soo's resignation and public address, setting the stage for his own presidential run. They then discuss key implications from the week's political chaos, including the National Assembly's surprise bipartisan agreement on a supplementary budget and the potential for the eventual PPP nominee to form an alliance with Han. John discusses the cyber attack that has struck SK Telecom, affecting 23 to 25 million users whose identities may have been compromised. Finally, the trio looks ahead to a critical deadline on May 3, when the PPP will decide which of its final two contenders will be its nominee for the presidential election, and previews the fast-approaching May 11 candidate registration deadline.
