We recently came across the philosophy Wabi Sabi. Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese aesthetic philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and simplicity. It embraces the natural cycle of growth, decay, and aging, appreciating the unique characteristics and flaws that make an object or a moment in time truly special. Wabi-Sabi values the authenticity of materials, the simplicity of design, and the appreciation of the fleeting and transient nature of life. It encourages us to find joy in the subtle, the modest, and the humble, reminding us to slow down, be present, and cherish the beauty that exists in the world around us.
In today's fast-paced and interconnected world, starting a business or embarking on a new venture requires more than just a great idea or a solid product. To truly succeed and make a meaningful impact, it is essential to start with service and focus on providing value for people. This customer-centric approach emphasizes understanding individuals' needs, desires, and challenges, and tailoring offerings to meet those needs effectively. By adopting a mindset that prioritizes serving others over personal gains, businesses can build trust, loyalty, and satisfaction among their target audience. Thorough research, active listening, and empathizing with customers' pain points allow for the development of solutions that address their specific challenges, desires, and goals. This philosophy of starting with service cultivates a loyal customer base, positive word-of-mouth, and a reputation for excellence, positioning businesses for sustainable growth and meaningful impact in the long run.

How often are we truly aware of our surroundings? Never before has it been easier to get lost in our phones, or caught up in our heads, not noticing what is around us, not seeing the signals being sent. When we elevate our awareness and tune right in, only then will the signals be received (whatever they might be.) One trick we found helpful for increasing situational awareness is to envision having an "environmental scan" on at all times. Picture a scanner constantly assessing your surroundings and looking for signals. What do you notice?? You'd be surprised. Organization leads to optimization. It's easy to get pulled in a thousand directions and rarely complete tasks in the timeframe we allot. A great way to keep life fresh is to learn something new every day. It can be anything! Just like a muscle, the mind grows stronger when challenged. Rep after rep, gains start being made. But, learning takes a lot of bandwidth, right? Well, if the mind can grow stronger like a muscle, then it should be able to "lift heavier loads" resulting in a bandwidth increase. It's a good loop to be in. The more we learn, the stronger we get. The stronger we get, the more we can learn. The initial learning curve might be steep, and the pain can get real, but it's that good pain we feel when training, working out, or simply pushing ourselves to the limit. Join us as we try to learn something new about learning something new!
It's getting kinda hectic! Today's fast pace world is easy to get lost in. But, how hard do we really have it? What was life like thousands of years ago? Recently, we started exploring some concepts in Stoicism that really resonated and helped us put things into perspective. In this episode, we look to the ancients and explore some simple rules that might not be so simple to follow.
We've worked with some incredible martial artists over the years while producing our Digital Seminars. One question we often asked is "How do you generate power in your strikes?" This got us thinking about the similarities between generating power in martial arts and generating power in everyday life. Let's dig in!
We all can get bombarded by the unrelenting to-dos of the day. Things can pile up and before we know it, a feeling of "I have to" emerges. What if we flipped the script? What if, in that moment, we catch ourselves feeling that way and consciously change our mindset to "I get to" do these things... Much different energy! Being grateful for having the opportunity to do whatever we're doing can easily snap us out of whatever negative story we might be telling ourselves about the situation. In this episode, we flip the script and figure out how this principle can be applied across the board.
Testing skills under pressure can be an incredibly enlightening process. It can help us understand where we're at in our training, and exactly what we need to work on. We've found it fascinating to observe exactly where things break down... The same can be said about our everyday lives. When pressure is applied, where do things start falling apart?? Each failure point is an opportunity for growth, physically or mentally. Join us as we dig into this and more on this week's episode of the Budo Brothers Podcast.
The glue on the pick's hasn't cured yet.
