Thirty-five years ago, Tom Clancy was a Maryland insurance broker with a passion for naval history. Years before, he had been an English major at Baltimore's Loyola College and had always dreamed of writing a novel. His first effort, The Hunt for Red October, sold briskly as a result of rave reviews, then catapulted onto the New York Times bestseller list after President Reagan pronounced it “the perfect yarn.” From that day forward, Clancy established himself as an undisputed master at blending exceptional realism and authenticity, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp suspense. Tom Clancy Rules of Engagement (A Jack Ryan Novel) by Ward Larsen https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0593718097 Wardlarsen.com When a member of his Cabinet is killed in a plane President Jack Ryan suspects that the “accident” is anything but in this latest shocking entry in this #1 New York Times bestselling series. The White House is stunned when the Secretary of Commerce is killed in a plane crash in Turkey. President Jack Ryan isn’t ready to write this off as a simple accident. Not only has he lost a good friend, but the Secretary was on an important mission: on the surface he was making an appearance at an economic conference, but the CIA was also using the flight as cover to extract an important asset from the Middle East. Soon, Lt. Commander Katie Ryan and her team are working with the investigators to find the cause of the tragedy, but one shocking revelation changes everything. There were supposed to be 16 people on the plane, but there are only 15 bodies. The quest for answers will lead the team deeper and deeper into a quagmire of lies and deception that will force President Ryan to face an unprincipled enemy with global ambitions. Rules of Engagement: A Journey Through 1 CorinthiansWhat does it look like to be the church in a world that doesn't always understand—or welcome—what we're about? That's the question the Apostle Paul tackled head-on in his letter to the church in Corinth, and it's the question we're wrestling with together this series.Paul planted a church in one of the most diverse, culturally complex cities in the ancient world. And almost immediately, things got messy. Division. Pride. Tolerance of things that shouldn't be tolerated. Silence where there should have been honesty. The Corinthian church was full of people who had the Spirit of God and the mind of Christ—and were still acting like the world around them.Sound familiar?Week by week, chapter by chapter, we'll walk through Paul's letter and discover that we are God's temple, keepers of an extraordinary mystery, and called to live like it. According to some US military commanders, God is totally on board with America attacking Iran. Complaints from troops are rolling into the Military Religious Freedom Foundation about some orders being served with a side of religion. Troops in three dozen military units spread across some 30 different military installations say they've been told this is all part of God's plan. The MRFF also says they had reports that troops were “promised a 200-mile-long river that is four-and-a-half feet deep filled with nothing but the blood that their weaponized version of Jesus will spill at the Battle of Armageddon.” We'll explore the role of religion in Trump's military. Steve Bleigh is the son and grandson of Army veterans. He joined the U.S. Army in 1986, fully expecting to be an infantryman throughout his service. When he returned to civilian life eighteen years later, Bleigh had spent 14 years in Army Special Forces and was a veteran of Afghanistan, Iraq, the Gulf War, and the conflict in Somalia. In this edition of Veterans Chronicles, MSG Bleigh tells us about his service in the Gulf War with the 82nd Airborne Division and the lessons he learned there that helped the rest of his years in uniform. Then he talks about selection and qualifying for Special Forces, being deployed as a weapons sergeant in Somalia, how he responded when the mission in Somalia turned deadly, and training to be a medic after returning home.Following the 9/11 Al Qaeda terrorist attacks, Bleigh and ODA 595 were among the first U.S. units to set foot in Afghanistan. Now often referred to as the Horse Soldiers, the unit teamed up with elements of the Northerrn Alliance to force the Taliban from power. Bleigh reflects on the toughest fighting in Afghanistan and being one of very few medics on the ground there. Finally, he details his two tours in Iraq, including the initial invasion and the early, successful hunt for key enemy figures. He then describes a very different second tour, one marked by relentless enemy IED's and maddening rules of engagement.

In Episode 142 of SITREP, hosts CannCon and Alpha Warrior break down recent developments surrounding federal enforcement actions, operational authority, and the growing tension between jurisdiction and political pressure. The discussion focuses on how rules of engagement, command structure, and legal authority shape outcomes during high-risk situations, particularly when narratives move faster than facts. CannCon and Alpha walk through why misunderstandings around enforcement powers, escalation thresholds, and response protocols can fuel confusion and public backlash. The episode also examines the strategic implications of restraint, timing, and discipline when institutions are under scrutiny and actions are being dissected in real time. Throughout the conversation, the hosts emphasize situational awareness, chain of command, and the difference between lawful authority and emotional reaction. Episode 142 offers a grounded assessment of how enforcement decisions are made, why escalation is not always the objective, and how clarity matters when pressure is mounting across multiple fronts.

Military Rules of Engagement Violations: Drug Boat Strike — Colonel Jeff McCausland — McCausland condemns a recent U.S. military strike on a drug trafficking vessel that allegedly killed surviving personnel in the water after vessel destruction. McCausland argues this "double tap" strike pattern violates international laws of armed conflict and U.S.military rules of engagement, which mandate rescue and medical assistance for defenseless, surrendered, or incapacitated enemy personnel. McCausland emphasizes that the administration has systematically withheld video documentation of the second strike, preventing independent verification of compliance with humanitarian warfare standards.1900
"Rules of Engagement" is a sitcom that ran from 2007-2013 on CBS. Built around the different stages of a relationship, through two couples and their single friend. The series plays heavily on the contrast between cynicism and idealism, long-term comfort and honeymoon-phase cluelessness. Warburton's deadpan delivery and Spade's chaotic energy became the anchors of the series, helping it survive multiple schedule moves and inconsistent marketing. Though critics never fully embraced the show—often calling it formulaic or old-fashioned—it quietly developed a dedicated fanbase. The series become one of those sturdy, middle-of-the-road sitcoms that never topped the charts but always delivered exactly the kind of comfort-food comedy its fans wanted. Listen as the boys dive into the show's pilot to see if Rule's of Engagement long overstayed its welcome. Starring: Patrick Warburton, Megyn Price, Oliver Hudson, Bianca Kajlich, David Spade, Audra Blaser, Smith Cho, Lauren Stamile, Gloria LeRoy, & Don Perry www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1POD

Radio host and podcaster Craig Collins is in for Jim. Join Craig and Greg for the Tuesday 3 Martini Lunch as they react to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announcing new training standards and rules of engagement, young lefties insisting communism has never truly been attempted, and the revelation that nearly half of young people regularly get their news from TikTok.First, they review Sec. Hegseth's speech to generals and admirals at Quantico today. In addition to Hegseth's demand for elite fitness at all ranks and the eradication of woke policies in the military, Hegseth also focused on returning to one tough standard for everyone in order to serve in combat and getting rid of "stupid" rules of engagement. The left and the media were immediately critical, but are these good ideas for military readiness?Next, they examine a Jim Geraghty column at National Review on why so many young leftists insist communism has never been tried correctly. Greg outlines the bloody record of communist regimes throughout history, while Craig argues that the frustrations of younger generations, rooted in the 2008 financial crisis, won't be solved by embracing socialism or communism. Finally, they react to Pew Research polling showing 43 percent of Americans ages 18-29 regularly get their news from TikTok. Craig and Greg warn that while social media can provide reliable news if curated carefully, TikTok often pushes propaganda and indoctrination that can be harmful to young audiences. Please visit our great sponsors:Get 20% off your first purchase of classic menswear. On March 16, 1968, American soldiers carried out what remains one of the most brutal war crimes in U.S. history. Over the course of a single morning, they killed between 300 and 500 Vietnamese civilians. The My Lai Massacre stands as a lasting stain on the U.S. military's legacy, but one that, according to Fred Borch, has also led to important reforms. Borch is a retired Army lawyer and former regimental historian for the Judge Advocate General Corps. He joins Lindsay to discuss the legacy of My Lai, the failures that made it possible, and what's changed in the decades since.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more!
