Send us a textWhat happens when you deliberately choose difficulty and discomfort? In this powerful reunion episode with Brian Mora, we explore how voluntary adversity shapes character, expands capabilities, and ultimately leads to greater fulfillment.Since we last spoke two years ago, Brian has transformed his life through deliberate challenge. After taking on leadership of recruiting at Ameriprise Financial, he learned stand-up paddleboarding from scratch to complete the 79-mile Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis event from the Bahamas to Florida. Perhaps most significantly, he fulfilled his entrepreneurial dream by opening a Rumble Boxing franchise, stepping far outside his corporate comfort zone. The conversation reveals practical wisdom for anyone seeking growth. Brian emphasizes starting with meaningful challenges, identifying potential obstacles, creating progress markers, and cultivating accountability partnerships. He shares how his paddleboard journey through shark-infested waters taught perseverance, while his boxing studio revealed striking differences between financial services and fitness industries—particularly regarding customer relationships and retention. Most powerfully, Brian addresses the core barrier many face: the fear of being bad at something new. He advocates dual visualization—picturing both the rewards of persevering and the risks of inaction. This approach provides motivation through difficult moments and helps overcome the natural tendency to avoid discomfort.Whether you're contemplating a major life change or simply seeking to build more discipline into your daily routine, this episode offers a blueprint for embracing discomfort as a path to growth. As Brian notes, "The key to a long life is continuing to challenge yourself"—wisdom backed by neuroscience and demonstrated through his remarkable journey.Ready to step outside your comfort zone and discover what you're truly capable of? Listen, reflect, and take that first uncomfortable step toward meaningful growth.Support the showhttps://bamboolab3.com/

For the first time ever, agave spirits (made from Mexico's agave plant such as tequila and mezcal) will outsell vodka in U.S. bars this year, becoming the #1 selling liquor category. And sales for Mezcal in particular, (often referred to as tequila's smokier cousin) have soared, making it the fastest-growing spirit in North America. According to a new research report about the skyrocketing growth of mezcal, part of its popularity is due to consumers' fascination with Mexican cuisine and culture. Others note that more and more people are developing an appreciation for premium artisanal spirits and are drawn to mezcal's unique flavor profile. Whatever the reason, the hottest bars and restaurants across the country now feature mezcal cocktails on their menus. Previously viewed as an up-and-coming spirit, mezcal has gone mainstream and 2024 is poised to be its biggest year yet. After being a fitness instructor for nearly two decades and a mom for almost that long, add entrepreneur to this woman's resume as she wants you to glove up for some boxing group workouts to get in shape! This all comes years after she beat cancer. And she's got some advice to help you get moving. (2:53) Helena Coates has been leading group fitness classes since 2005. She talks about why she's so passionate about being in the gym and helping others...wanting to look a certain way, enjoying the community, but also the way fitness makes her feel through the ups and downs of life. The goal: make people feel comfortable coming to the gym. Why are people motivated to work out or unmotivated? She gives a list. (11:00) Facing stage 4 cancer - spreading in her body - in her early 40s, Helena beat it but then just finishing a workout was extremely difficult, after being a gym rat since she was 13. This mom of 3 also said the cancer battle was mental too. (17:32) Now, she and her husband have bought 4 franchises of Rumble Boxing in Alabama, the latest one in Auburn. What happens in this boutique fitness studio? She gives the details. It includes gloves, "rounds" during the group workout, fun music, and the opportunity to take frustration out on a soft bag. It's part of changing trends in the fitness industry. (28:28) This fitness guru also is very involved in many organizations, nonprofits in Columbus GA, chairing some boards. She's involved in Uptown Columbus Inc which just brought the international kayaking competition to the rapids of the Chattahoochee River (called canoeing overseas). What kind of strength and endurance do kayakers doing tricks need? She also talks about affecting change through action, being part of teams in the community to help make a difference. (37:50) Faith also drives our decisions to make positive changes in the world around us, a desire that was sparked for her while attending BYU. Helena talks about it being a moral compass for her, setting priorities straight, her faith helping her make decisions, wanting to be a better person, and looking at fitness holistically. (45:45) We also dive into her being a certified scuba diver, an adventurous hobby allowing her to do some shark dives and also see some amazing things underwater. Hiking and other fitness, she points out, can also open doors to some fascinating experiences, views. (52:34) I close out the episode in prayer. Thanks for listening to the #RunTheRace podcast! What problems are you solving for your clients? Kevin Johnson, owner of Planet Paws Pet Care, views his entire role as being the problem solver for his clients. Kevin transitioned from being a defense attorney to running a successful pet sitting business. He emphasizes the importance of communication skills in building trust with clients and identifying their pain points. He believes in being a problem solver and guiding clients to the right services, even if it means referring them elsewhere. Kevin also highlights the value of networking, joining the chamber of commerce, and filling gaps in the market. He and his wife work together in the business, with her focusing on marketing and business operations. Kevin participates in events to raise awareness of his business and engage with the community. Main topics Skills from a lawyer Building trust Building a network Guiding clients Main takeaway: Part of building trust is in identifying pain points, and then being able to discuss solutions rationally and calmly. About our guest: Kevin founded Planet Paws Pet Care, a full-service pet care company in September 2021, along with his wife Kristie, when they couldn't find good pet care for their dogs. Kevin spent 18 years as a criminal defense attorney. Originally, intended to be a part-time business, Kevin relinquished his law books for a leash full-time when he found out his health greatly improved, and his stress levels went down. In his diligent quest to offer the best services, Kevin provides overnight dog boarding, vacation care visits, dog walks, as well as potty and play visits. Kevin is certified in pet first aid and CPR, a Fear-Free Certified Professional Pet Sitter, and a NAPPS-certified pet sitter. He is a proud member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS). Kevin and Kristie are proud dog parents to Finn, a vivacious four-year-old Siberian Husky, and Poe, a lively four-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier. These close-knit relationships with his pets allow him to understand and cater to the individual needs of each furry friend that steps into Planet Paws Pet Care. Outside of his professional capacity, Kevin finds solace in camping (they still camp in a tent) and riding his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He loves attending comic cons with his Star Wars costuming group. He engages in his Rumble Boxing classes to keep up with his active lifestyle and energetic pups. With his diverse experience, Kevin ensures every interaction at Planet Paws radiates warmth, care, and professionalism. Scott & Jake Bourbon Lens About Off Hours Off Hours Bourbon is made for afternoon relaxations and late night convos as it dispels the idea that you have to wear a suit to drink a glass of Bourbon or that it can only be enjoyed poured over rocks at the end of the day. The award-winning liquid is aged in American white oak barrels for over 5 years. Tasting notes include aromas of creamy vanilla, hint of nutmeg and toasted pecans, rich notes of cinnamon and a silky finish of lingering honey.  You can find out more about Off Hours with Bourbon Lens here.   About Noah Neiman: Exploding onto the New York City fitness scene in early 2011, Noah Neiman has made his presence known as a NYC household name.  Noah was able to showcase his unique talents, personality, and passion for empowering others to the most discerning of fitness clientele. Noah was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and his childhood therapist told him when he feels stressed and out of control - that he should hit a pillow. He then turned that aggression to jiu jitsu as well as group fitness classes.  In a deep depression and issue with male body dysmorphia in his 20s, Noah turned to drug use and after having a near death experience, he promised his family (in the hospital) that he would turn his life around.   Noah helped to co-found Rumble Boxing, which is a boxing-inspired group fitness concept that is a 45-minute, 10-round, full-body cardio and strength workout crafted around specially designed water-filled, teardrop-style boxing bags. Rumble has locations coast to coast including: New York City, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Chicago - with massive brand loyalty and widespread appeal partly thanks to attracting top names like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, Jason Derulo, David Beckham, and Kevin Hart to its studios. Follow Noah on Instagram: @noahdneiman About Rumble: At its epicenter, Rumble is a collection of the most inspired and inspiring fitness instructors on the planet. Impressive athletes in their own regard, they step onto the podium at Rumble as part DJ, part motivational speaker, and complete Master of Ceremony. The 45 minutes that follows is an awesome orchestration of a workout engineered to custom hip-hop and house mash-ups. The music, the lights, the program, and the collective heartbeat of the room all come together as if it was a collaboration from the beginning - as if Cardi B. wrote this song, for this moment, for you, to run this shit like cardio.

Noah Neiman has been boxing since he was a child—a combination of ADHD and ODD led to a therapist suggesting he try punching a pillow when he felt upset or aggressive, but he thought the suggestion was ridiculous. Instead, Neiman opted for athletics, something which helped him with building self-control. According to Neiman, “The more I controlled my physical body, the more I could control my emotional body and my spiritual body.” Now, he is one of four co-founders of Rumble Boxing. Though the journey to success has been difficult—from dealing with depression, anxiety and drug use to nearly missing the opportunity to co-found Rumble Boxing entirely to the pandemic challenges many businesses faced—the business has continued to grow since its beginning in 2017, something which is owed to the experience brought to the table by each of its founders. Most of you will be shocked to hear that Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions isn't that bad. I sure was when I played the game; however, that initial positive shock was followed by a much greater negative shock: the price tag. As surprisingly not terrible as Big Rumble Boxing is, it's got a significant lack of content problem. Based on what's there (and what's not there), one would assume Big Rumble Boxing was a $10-15 game and not the $40 game it actually is, so unless it's on sale, there's no point wasting your time or money. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks. You can get an even more in-depth discussion by listening to the podcast and, if you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, the podcasts, the streaming, the videos, the art, and everything in between. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to consume any of the content I make and thank you for being a fan. I can't begin to express how much I appreciate each and every one of you. Cheers.
