Cait and Jen discuss the All Souls book trilogy and TV show.
The Chamomile & Clove podcast is an absolute gem for fans of the All Souls Trilogy. Hosted by Cait and Jen, this podcast offers a delightful combination of smart insight, witty banter, and thoughtful analysis. As a fan myself, I was instantly drawn to their engaging discussions and found myself eagerly tuning in to each new episode.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the chemistry between Cait and Jen. Their friendship shines through in every episode, creating an enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere for listeners. Their humor and camaraderie make it feel like you're sitting down with two friends discussing your favorite books. Their insights are not only incredibly smart but also delivered in a way that is accessible to all fans.
Another great aspect of this podcast is the format. With just two hosts, it feels more intimate and allows for a deeper dive into the books. The discussions flow smoothly, covering various aspects of the story while still maintaining a cohesive structure. Whether they're analyzing character development, exploring themes, or simply squeeing over their favorite moments, Cait and Jen keep the conversation engaging from start to finish.
While there isn't much to criticize about this podcast, one minor drawback is that they have not yet covered the entire series. As a devoted fan who wants to hear their thoughts on all three books, it can be slightly disappointing to have to wait for new episodes. However, this small issue does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the podcast.
In conclusion, The Chamomile & Clove podcast is a must-listen for fans of the All Souls Trilogy. Cait and Jen's intelligent analysis combined with their delightful chemistry make for an entertaining and informative listening experience. Whether you're rereading the books or discovering them for the first time, this podcast will enhance your enjoyment and provide endless hours of discussion-worthy content.
You guys. It's been two years, but with the publication of The Black Bird Oracle, we could not resist coming back. In this episode, we're catching up and finding our stride again as we cover Chapters 1-2 of Deborah Harkness's TBBO. We missed this, and we missed you. Looking forward to this next step into the universe of All Souls!
Dearest Clovers, Today is a bittersweet day. In this episode, we're announcing our hiatus from podcasting. Both of us are about to embark upon major life changes and, 120 episodes and five years later, we think it's appropriate to give C&C an intermission. We hope to answer your questions in the episode, but here's a summary: we're planning a possible return if and when there's new material, but, for now, this seems like the best choice. Our episodes will remain on our website and on iTunes and Spotify and wherever you listen. We plan to use whatever support we continue to receive through Patreon to pay those costs, but we completely understand if now is not the time for you to remain a patron. We've been so lucky to have you. It's nearly impossible to put into words what a joy this project has been and how proud we are of all we have accomplished. It's not perfect, but it has always been a delight. Thank you for your kindness, your support, your warmth, your good humor, your deep thinking, and your immense love of the All Souls Trilogy. Should you want to get in touch, you can find us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com. Honor and long life to all, xox Cait and Jen
Happy Sunday Clovers! Well, well, well, here we are with our penultimate discussion of A Discovery of Witches and the All Souls Universe. It's been quite the journey. We have so loved discussing this TV show with you all, and we know that it will continue to provide joy and delight for many years of re-watches to come. In this episode we're back on the trail of the great plot caper! That's right, team spreadsheet has reunited to bring you the ultimate plot discussion for A Discovery of Witches TV. Cait has tied in this plot discussion to the spreadsheets created for Episode 72 of the podcast (that's the one for the book trilogy plot discussion). In addition to diving into plots one more time, we are also discussing our ultimate favorites for the TV series: music, costumes, episodes, characters, scenes, and more. We are so pleased to be here to begin our discussion of the entirety of the TV series A Discovery of Witches. The moment when we saw the series premiere of the series at All Souls Con in 2018 seems both past and present as we end this television journey. Surely some of you can relate to this feeling. For this episode we are discussing characters and their relationships throughout he series, series-wide themes, and the adaptation and production as a whole. Deepest apologies for the background noise, particularly in Jen's audio. There was a heat wave and it was sweltering in her office so the window had to be open in order to avoid syncope. It has been edited out as much as possible. Download the episode here. If you have feedback, questions, or comments, make sure you send your thoughts to chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com. This week, we're bringing you our seventh (!?) plot discussion episode covering Season 3 of A Discovery of Witches TV. We're doing a deep dive on the plot highlights of S3 and whether (or not) they follow a structure we've ever seen before. Happy Sunday, Clovers! Sorry for the brief delay in getting you this episode -- sometimes the external world plays tricks with our recording and editing schedule. Nonetheless -- we're bringing you our first wrap episode for S3 of A Discovery of Witches TV. In today's episode, we're talking about character arcs -- what makes a good arc, what makes a regressive character arc, and which characters in ADOWTV S3 have the best and most complete character arcs. We're also discussing some themes (redemption! justice? revenge? eternity! connectedness!) and some of our favorite moments of the final season. If you have feedback, questions, or comments, make sure you send your thoughts to chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates or to tell us how you felt about this episode. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. If you'd like to support the show, we'd love a review on iTunes or your pod-fetcher of choice or you can visit our Patreon. Until next time, xoxo Cait and Jen
Clovers, Somehow, impossibly, we've made it here - to the finale of the adaptation of A Discovery of Witches. It's bittersweet -- we're glad to see the Bishop-Clairmont scion get their happy ending, but it's hard to close the curtain on this wonderful production and its cast and crew. In this episode, we're talking about closure -- where we found it, where we didn't, and how you pin the tail on an antagonist. We're also gearing up for our season (and series) wrap episodes and processing how we feel about having one more dance sequence at Sept-Tours. We're collecting your feedback for our wrap episodes, so make sure you send in your thoughts to chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates or to tell us how you felt about Episode 3x07. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. Happiest equinox, Clovers! We hope that there are glimmers of spring (or fall) wherever you are and that today finds you safe, well, and full of joy. So, HOLY ADAPTATION, BATMAN. We're delighted to talk today about the smart, courageous, and very satisfying changes the writers' room made for this episode and what that means for the end of our series. As usual, we're also talking about character arcs, Gallowglass's pectorals (we can't help it), and what it means when your protagonist loses the moral high ground. We can't wait to share the finale with you. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates or to tell us how you felt about Episode 3x06. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. If you'd like to support the show, we'd love a review on iTunes or your pod-fetcher of choice or you can visit our Patreon. Blessed be and take care, xoxox Cait and Jen
Happiest Sunday, Clovers. We're nearing the end of our coverage of A Discovery of Witches TV and this episode makes it clear that we're getting ready to tie up the plot and say our goodbyes. There's a lot to love here, but we're also facing the consequences of our limited time with our favorite characters and the adaptive choices we've made along the way. In today's episode, you'll hear our take on gaucho pants (hard pass), Alex Kingston (hell to the yes), and whether spellbinding a blood rage vampire makes any difference (or any sense). We can't wait to share the rest of this amazing season with you. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates or to tell us how you felt about Episode 3x05. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. If you'd like to support the show, we'd love a review on iTunes or your pod-fetcher of choice or you can visit our Patreon.
Wow. As of yesterday, we've reached the finale of A Discovery of Witches TV -- it's an incredible accomplishment for the cast, the crew, the producers, and the fandom. We're sad that we won't have any more episodes to look forward to, but we're going to prolong the fun for as long as we can. In this episode, we're talking about the adaptive choices we've made that have consequences for how Episode 3x04--and the rest of the series--have to play out. We're mourning the absence of Puddles (episode review: too few daschunds), picking at the threads of how we choose to portray Timothy, and fully enjoying Miriam telling Matthew to get his head out of his behind. We can't wait to share the rest of this amazing season with you. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates or to tell us how you felt about Episode 3x04. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. Happy Sunday, Clovers. We hope that February is treating you well and that you're delighting in S3 of A Discovery of Witches TV as much as we are. In this episode, we're traveling to New Orleans to reckon with Matthew's past and the remainder of Marcus's family. Meanwhile, Diana and Phoebe are hot on the trail of the Book of Life and Gallowglass and Sarah have conspired to wreck us emotionally. Join us for a conversation about character arcs, condensed plotwork, interiority, and what exactly we might be doing with Satu... We can't wait to share the rest of this amazing season with you. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes or to tell us how you felt about Episode 3x03. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. Thank you so much for joining us for this extended episode of our A Discovery of Witches TV season 3 coverage. We love episode 2 of season 3, mostly because of Jack and Father Hubbard. At the beginning of this episode we also take a deep dive into ableism, sanism, and disability in order to tie into our blood rage discussion here in season 3. Enjoy!
The moment we've waited for is finally here! It's premiere day for Season 3 of A Discovery of Witches TV on Sundance Now, Shudder, and AMC+. It's been a long wait, but we think the end result is glorious -- a fitting and beautiful start to our final season. In this episode, we're talking about all of the important things -- modern Gallowglass (rawr), Baldwin v.2 (we dig), and our collective grief about Em (we miss you, Valarie Pettiford). We can't wait to share the rest of this amazing season with you. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes or to tell us how you felt about Episode 3x01. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. Clovers, Clovers. Somehow, we made it to 2022. It's been a long haul, but we're glad to have you here with us for another year of All Souls fandom. Today, we're spending some time spinning tracks for the one and only Gallowglass -- the wanderer, the guardian, the Scots-inflected, motorcycle-riding, sea shanty-singing, shaggy bear of our hearts. You can find Deb's Gallowglass playlist on Spotify. And you can find ours on Spotify and YouTube. The moment we've all been waiting for is nearly here -- we're LESS THAN A WEEK from the premiere of the final season of A Discovery of Witches TV on AMC and Sundance. We'll be back next week with our coverage of Episode 3x01 and can't wait to hear what you think. In the meantime, you have our best wishes and brightest hopes for 2022. Be well. xoxo Cait and Jen
Happiest Sunday, wherever you are. We apologize for the minor service interruption -- our day jobs got in the way of us putting out an episode last week, but we're trying to make up for it by delivering big on The Book of Life Playlist. There's giggling, ghosts, and Switchfoot, which feels like par for the course. Deb's playlist for The Book of Life can be found on Spotify. Ours can be found on Spotify and on YouTube. Our Gallowglass playlist is on the way and it's a *BANGER*. We can't wait to share it with you! Do you have a song (or songs?) you would add to this playlist? Let us know and we'll add them! Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes or to submit your suggestions. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. If you'd like to support the show, we'd love a review on iTunes or your pod-fetcher of choice or you can visit our Patreon. xoxo, Cait and Jen
We're here to toot our own horn *just a little* and say that our combined Matthew Clairmont playlist is most excellent. We've taken the killer beginnings of Deb's original and added some riffs and I don't think you'll be disappointed. There's some big feelings, some melancholy moods, some redemption, some emo -- a glorious range for a complicated man. You can find Deb's original playlist for Matthew on Spotify. Our playlist can be found both on Spotify and YouTube. Up next, we're talking about The Book of Life Playlist and then Gallowglass and Ysabeau and Philippe and and and... you get the picture.
Clovers, As if we haven't discussed Shadow of Night to pieces... we're back! We're talking atmospheric witchiness, soulful ballads, and the oddball genius of Tori Amos. Deb's Shadow of Night playlist is on Spotify. Ours is available on Spotify and YouTube. We're having a grand time talking about these playlists and can't wait to dive into the Matthew Clairmont playlist in a few weeks. Happy Halloween, darling Clovers! We're so excited to bring you the second installment of our tour of Deb's All Souls playlists. Today, we're exploring the music of the many musical sides of Diana Bishop -- the magical, the righteous, the sexy, and everything in between. We've had so much fun -- we hope you're enjoying it, too. Deb's playlist for Diana Bishop is here. Ours is on Spotify and YouTube. Do you have a song (or songs?) you would add to this playlist? Let us know and we'll add them! Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes or to submit your suggestions. Dearest, most darling Clovers: We're back to our (mostly) regular programming with something new and hopefully fun. We've decided to use the time between TV seasons to play around in the extraordinary playlists that Deb compiled to go along with the All Souls Trilogy. Accordingly, this episode is all about the playlist for A Discovery of Witches, which you can find on Spotify. As promised, we've also created a shorter YouTube playlist to accompany this episode, which you can find at the link. Thanks for your love and support and happy listening! xoxo
Clovers. It's been a minute. This was not our plan. As you might have noticed, we've been on a bit of a publishing hiatus -- we were plagued by technical difficulties that caused us to lose not one, not two, but nearly THREE FULLY RECORDED EPISODES. Accordingly, if anyone has seen us in the past few weeks, we've looked a bit like the dog in the fiery room GIF and it hasn't been pretty. This episode, which we recorded with the lovely Dr. Stephenie McGucken of The Art History of All Souls was very nearly lost -- but we managed to rescue it from the flames due to the wonderful backups maintained by the folks at Cast. Due to the nature of the backup, we weren't able to deliver audio as clear and clean as what we normally like to produce... but we'll take it. In this episode, we're talking about our general impressions of S2 -- plus TIME TRAVEL and PLOT DIAGRAMS. You knew this was coming and we couldn't hold out on you any longer. You can download the slides for this episode here. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. If you'd like to support the show, we'd love a review on iTunes or your pod-fetcher of choice or you can visit our Patreon. xoxox and thanks for your patience, Cait and Jen
Dearest and most darling Clovers, it's a big day. Today, we're releasing Episode 100 of Chamomile & Clove -- a milestone we never dreamed of reaching. It's only fitting that we should published Episode 100 while talking about Episode 2x10 of A Discovery of Witches TV, a fitting end to a tremendous season of television. In today's episode, we're talking about character arcs, endings, beginnings, changes, and bringing this season to a satisfying close before launching into Season 3 in 2022. There's a healthy edition of Spoiler Corner at the end, too, in case you can't get quite enough of speculation (or Cait's newly-minted Spoiler Corner ditties). To celebrate our ONE HUNDREDTH EPISODE, we have new (and much anticipated merch) in our Redbubble store. We're also launching our massive transcript project -- if you'd like to participate, you can e-mail us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com and we'll sign you up. We've got some special edition swag to give as a thank you gift for anyone who chooses to pitch in. We could not do this without you -- your energy, your love, your questions, your comments, and your companionship are something else. Thank you for everything you've done that brought us here. We are so grateful. xoxo Cait and Jen
Happiest Sunday! We're inching our way towards the end of Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches TV and our SUPER EXCITING (and still secret) wrap episodes. We can't wait to share them with you in a few weeks and hope you're enjoying our, er, extended take on this incredible season of television. In this episode, we're talking about How To End A Season: Part I, so we have lots to say about narrative, protagonists and moral authority, character development, and the difficult relationship between blood rage as a plot device and sanism. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes. We are rocketing towards the end of the season now! Join us as we discuss several different crises: identity politics with Marcus, relationship drama with the Aunties, Baldwin's character, and an assault on baby Margaret. A Discovery of Witches TV Season 2 Ep 8.
We're back with our discussion of A Discovery of Witches TV 2x07 and it's rather fun, if we do say so ourselves. In this episode, we're talking about smart adaptation choices, killer costumes, Hapsburg creeps, and how mad we are at the Bosch tease (GIVE US OUR TRIPTYCH, THX). Oh, also: consider this your vaguely inappropriate pun warning. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes. For between episodes fun and news, please follow our Facebook page or consider joining our listeners' group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. Hello dear listeners! No, your podcast feed is not broken, we decided to give you this interview with Adam Sklar earlier than anticipated and just keep the original episode number. We had such a lovely time talking with Adam about A Discovery of Witches TV, his character (Henry Percy), video games, movies, deaf culture, accessibility, representation in media, and so many other things. Please enjoy this surprise time-walk. We'll be back with the rest of the podcast episodes up through episode 100 coming up!
Happy first Sunday of spring, Clovers! A Discovery of Witches TV Season 2 may be finished airing in the US, Canada, and the UK, but we're not done talking about it by a long shot. We've still got four episodes to go! Today, we're talking about the heartbreaking masterpiece that is Episode 2x06. We've got to talk about fathers and sons, boots on boots on boots, THAT DRESS, THAT HAIR, and THAT ENDING. It's like, half weeping and half squee -- don't say we didn't warn you. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for updates and previews of our upcoming episodes. We hope that you're well, safe, and secure this morning -- it's frigid at C&C HQ-East and not likely to warm up for a few more weeks. We're eagerly awaiting the equinox and the first of the snowdrops and crocus, just like everyone else. In today's episode, we're diving in to Episode 2x04 of A Discovery of Witches TV -- we're talking about dating, plot structure, new adaptive material, character development, and whether Phoebe is just a little bit too chill about the blood fridge in Marcus's kitchen. A special shout-out to Jen's TV boyfriend, Domenico, and Gerbert being a creepy old coot. If you're reading this on release day, you're in luck! Tonight, we're live tweeting Episode 2x07 of ADOWTV at 6pm EST/3pm PST using the HT #ccalchemy. Follow us on Twitter as @chamomilenclove for details and updates. With great celebration and joy and fanfare, the day we've waited for is finally (FINALLY) here! In this episode, we're discussing the breathtakingly beautiful, dramatic, moody premiere of A Discovery of Witches TV on Sky, Shudder, AMC Plus, and Sundance Now. Today is the day when we can finally gush--in extraordinary detail--about costumes and sets and lighting and adaptive choices and casting and the work of art that is the second season of this remarkable series. In addition, we get to talk about HATS and Matthew being a clever little sausage. Lucky us. So, without further ado, please pull up a chair and let's get this Elizabethan Vacation off to a grand and glorious start. As a side note, we 100% goofed and forgot how to podcast and this episode has a little bitty spoiler section between 1:06h-1:14h. In the future, we will relegate those naughty little buggers to the Spoiler Corner. Hello, dearest Clovers. Happy Sunday! It's time for our final Time's Convert wrap episode -- the one with the plot and the polls and the listener feedback and the discussion about what story this book is actually telling. No slides this time, but we think you'll understand why as you listen. Thank you to all of you who wrote in, who commented on Facebook, who took part in the discussion -- we love hearing from you and talking about your thoughts on the show. As you might have noticed, we have a wee giveaway going on now through December 17. Come celebrate Saturnalia with us and win some cool podcast swag, some jewelry from Trilogie, a Flickerwix candle, and more! Click the link to enter via Facebook or just using your e-mail address. We're also just over a month away from the premiere of A Discovery of Witches TV Season 2! We've got some fun stuff planned between now and then, but we'd also love to hear your ideas for interstitial shows -- guests! Topics! Games! Give us all your ideas and we'll see what we can make of them. You can find us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com, on Twitter as @chamomilenclove, or on Facebook as the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. It has been a while but we are BACK! Please join us for our first book wrap discussion of Time's Convert. We're talking characters, antagonists and protagonists, themes, and narration.
The sun is shining, the air is biting, and Phoebe and Marcus are reunited! In today's episode, we're closing out our chapter discussions for Time's Convert and starting to reflect on the themes of this nuanced, complicated book. That means, of course, that it's time for you to send us your questions, thoughts, comments, etc. for our book discussion episodes! You can do so by getting in touch on Twitter @chamomilenclove, via e-mail at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com, or through our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. As a reminder, we're TWO SHORT WEEKS from Virtual All Souls Con -- we can't wait to share our panel with you and celebrate the All Souls Community virtually. We won't publish an episode the first weekend of the Con so that you can spend your time enjoying all of the great content the organizers have in store, but keep an eye out for our next episode in the first weekend of November. To celebrate the Con, we're hosting a fabulous giveaway -- keep your eyes peeled for our Twitter and Facebook announcements! We hope you and yours are well and safe and we send you all of our love. Take care of each other. xoxo, Cait and Jen
Hello and happy weekday to you all! In this special extra episode, we are discussing the recently-released trailer for season 2 of A Discovery of Witches the TV show. WE ARE SO EXCITED!
Happiest Sunday, Clovers! We're here to talk about Chapters 30 and 32 of Time's Convert in our SECOND TO LAST chapter episode for the book! In the next episode, we'll join all of the storylines and talk about endings and beginnings and change... it is a book in the All Souls Universe, after all. Today, we're committing crimes against the German language (sorry), issuing an elegy for Marcus's youth, finding babies (making babies!), and trying (unsuccessfully) to pull Matthew and Marcus out of a relationship nosedive. We're deep in the 2020 Real-Time Read of A Discovery of Witches, but it's never too late to join! Watch our Twitter feed and Facebook page for updates and follow the wonderful discussions taking place on the All Souls Discussion Group. In addition, make sure you've got your passes for this year's virtual All Souls Con! We had the best time recording our panel and think you're going to love the lineup. If you like what we do, please consider reviewing us on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also support us on Patreon or Redbubble. Stay safe, wear a mask, wash your hands, and be kind to one another, xoxo Cait and Jen
In today's episode, we're deep in the throes of Marcus's youth--and the French Revolution--in Chapters 25-27 of Time's Convert. There's lots of tricky talk about ideals and extremism, mental health, and perspective -- and there are more penis jokes than we remembered. C'est la vie, c'est la révolution. Pour yourself a big cup of Liberté, Égalité, et Fraternité and settle on in. We have new merchandise in our Redbubble store and there's more coming soon. If you like, you can also support us on Patreon or just leave a rating and review on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts. If you'd like to be in the loop about future events, including live readings, follow our Twitter @chamomilenclove or--even better--join our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. We'd love to have you. Enjoy the episode and take care!
In today's episode, we're covering Chapters 21-22 of Time's Convert -- Marcus's transformation from human to vampire, some thorny issues of transformation and consent, questions and answers, family and rebirth, manners, and an unexpected musical interlude. We're rapidly approaching the 2020 Real-Time Reading of A Discovery of Witches! If you haven't participated before, the Real-Time Reading is an opportunity to re-read A Discovery of Witches one chapter at a time on the day the plot "happens" -- it's a wonderful way to mark the passing of the seasons and to bide our time before the release of A Discovery of Witches TV Season 2 in January 2021. In recognition and celebration of this event, we're doing a live reading event on Friday, 18 September 2020, via Zoom -- if you're interested in joining us for camaraderie and magic, you can join our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers, to RSVP. You can also follow our Real-Time Reading posts via Twitter or participate in the All Souls Discussion Group on Facebook. We look forward to celebrating the changing season with you and hope you enjoy the episode. xoxox
Vive le vignette! In this episode we discuss chapters 15-17 (sequential!) of Time's Convert, and all of the moments leading up to Marcus being turned into a vampire.
We have finally made it into the beginning of Marcus' story in this week's episode covering Ch. 6, 9, and 12 of Time's Convert. We're discussing family dynamics, problematic stereotypes, being a product of one's time, , infectious diseases, and more. Plus, this week in our reading we get a special cameo from OG Sarah Bishop! Content warning for discussion of domestic violence.
In today's episode, we're covering Chapters 29, 31, and 34 of Time's Convert! This rounds out the storyline for Diana, Matthew, and Marcus in the present before we get into the heart of the book - Marcus's past! In these chapters, we're talking about the trouble with spellbinding, parenting and trauma, breaking analogies (and characters), and what kind of a cake you bake for solstice. There may or may not be wasps. In case you missed it, we're running a contest! If you send us your best Apollo-style chortle, we'll put you in the running for a $50 USD donation to the charity of your choice! The contest is open until 2 August 2020 and the contest details are here. If you'd like to get in touch, you can e-mail us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com or find us on Twitter @chamomilenclove. If you'd like to become part of our Facebook community, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers, we'd love to have you!
In this episode, we're covering Chapters 20 and 24 of Time's Convert. It's Matthew's rebirthday party and we've FOOLISHLY invited Baldwin to dinner to make a ruckus in the name of family time. It gives us a great opportunity to talk about acceptance, tolerance, body image, vampire hierarchy, and why biting is (and simultaneously is not) a great tool for solving problems. Guys, there's so much biting today. There is also a lot of improvised singing, so consider yourselves warned. Our reading schedule for Time's Convert is here. Don't forget to follow along with the All Souls Discussion Group's read-along of the novel this summer -- we're going in a different order, but there's great discussion in the community and you should check it out. You can find us on Facebook as part of the Chamomile & Clove Clovers group or on Twitter @chamomilenclove. We'd love it if you reviewed our show on iTunes, became a patron through Patreon, or bought some C&C swag on Redbubble. Love you always. See you next time, Yours, musically, Cait and Jen
In today's episode, we're talking about Chapters 11 and 14 of Time's Convert, where a charming character introduction leads us smack into a confrontation with Diana's identity, the challenges of parenting, mistakes and personal growth, and what exactly Marcus has on repeat on his "I Miss Phoebe" playlist. Don't forget that the All Souls Discussion Group begins its Time's Convert reading and discussion in July! You can find our Reading and Episode Schedule here if you'd like to catch up to us or see where we're headed next. You can also find us on Twitter and in our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. Until next time, xoxo Cait and Jen
We hope this finds you well and safe on a gorgeous Sunday morning. At the outset of this episode, we're taking a couple of moments to talk about the #BlackLivesMatter movement and how we're working on dismantling racism in our lives outside the podcast and what that means for our podcast work going forward. We're committed to you, our listeners, to truly intersectional feminism, and to learning (and forking up) in public. There may or may not be some of that in this episode -- but here we go anyway. In this episode, we're talking about Chapters 3, 5, and 8 of Time's Convert. It's partially about awkward transitions (wee), defensive cocktails, and parenting and blind panic (we see you, Diana), but it's also about decolonizing history, authorial and audience expectations, and what happens when you transition from a trilogy to a Very Different Book in the same universe. You can find us -- as usual -- at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com or on Twitter @chamomilenclove. You can also find us on Facebook and in our Facebook group, the Chamomile and Clove Clovers. xoxox Cait and Jen
Happy Memorial Day Weekend to our American listeners and friends -- we hope you're safe at home and enjoying the best of the early summer. In this episode, we're talking about Chapters 28 and 33 of Time's Convert. Phoebe's a fledgling, now, so she's got a lot more privileges... and a lot more issues to contend with as she strikes out in the world. We've got a lot to say this week about vampire feeding--consent, etiquette, teaching, ethics--and then lots more to say about the Taylor family dynamics and whether Phoebe's supposed inability to return to trade is part of classism or patriarchy (or both?). In our next episode, we're reuniting with Matthew and Diana and turning back the pages of this book to its early chapters. Not sure where to start? Check out our Reading & Release Schedule to find out where we are (and where we'll be!). In the meantime, you can find us on Twitter, on Facebook, or you can e-mail us (as always!) at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com.
Wherever you are, we hope you are well and safe --- we hope you get to spend the day remembering, honoring, and celebrating the caring, nurturing people in your life. If today is hard for you, we wish you peace and hope that you find something today that brings you joy. Who knows, maybe it will be this episode! Phoebe's frisky, and so are we! Today, we're exploring consent, parenting, and the relationship between sexuality and feeding in vampire novels while discussing Chapters 18, 22, and 23 of Time's Convert. It's sensual, silly, and also very serious -- so, about what you'd expect. You can always reach us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com, or you can follow us on Twitter, or you can join our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers. We're eager to hear your thoughts and feelings about this episode or any others -- we're so grateful for your continued love and support. Take care of each other, xoxo Cait and Jen
Wherever you are in the world, we hope it's a peaceful, quiet day and that you're safe and healthy and making the best of things. Today's episode covers Chapters 7, 10, and 13 of Time's Convert and Phoebe Taylor's first few days as a vampire (and as Miriam's daughter!). Join us for a discussion of maturity, privilege, morality, and more as we see what life is like on the other side of rebirth. You can keep in touch with us by following us on Twitter, e-mailing us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com, joining our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers, or by finding us on Instagram. We're so excited to keep discussing Time's Convert and what's next for the world of All Souls and hope to see you soon. Take care of each other, xoxo Cait and Jen
You guys! We're back! Thanks for giving us a little bit of a break to decide how we're going to process Time's Convert -- it's a very different book from the All Souls Trilogy, so we decided to approach it in a non-linear (but highly sensical!) way. Today, we're starting strong with Chapters 1, 2, and 4 -- we've got a VERY AWKWARD dinner party to attend before we turn Phoebe into a vampire and begin her afterlife. You can dive into the new story (and join us on #TeamFreyja) while we get busy posting the new reading schedule on our website. Between now and our next episode, you can find us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com, in our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers, or on Twitter @chamomilenclove. You can also support us on Patreon or purchase merchandise on Redbubble. We love you, we hope you're safe, and we'll see you next time. xoxo Cait and Jen
Happy Sunday, Clovers. At long last, you have the nerd-a-riffic, highly specific content you've been waiting for -- the whole All Souls Trilogy plot shebang in one spreadsheet. It was a (very colorful, slightly stressful) labor of love, but it definitely puts things in a whole new perspective. You can download the PDF version of the slides here: Episode 72 - The Spreadsheet OlympicsDownload This episode wraps our wraps, closes all the books, answers all the questions -- well, at least most of them. We're talking about trilogy structure, strong plotting choices, sneaky plotting choices, a little bit of time travel, and all our favorite things about the All Souls Trilogy. You don't want to miss it. If you're interested in our other trilogy wrap episodes, you can check out Episode 70: The List on the Seat of Our Pants or Episode 71: The Narrative Ish. Our book-level wrap episodes are here. Until we start Time's Convert in April or so, you can find us on Twitter, Facebook, Redbubble, and Patreon. You can always e-mail us at chamomileandclovecast@gmail.com. Thanks for the journey, y'all. It's been amazing.
We promise -- the plot and time travel discussion is coming -- we're just chickens. Procrastinating chickens. This week, we're talking about all the themes covered by the All Souls Trilogy -- identity, family, love and trauma, redemption, the meaning of the epigraph, and on and on. While wrapping our brains around these huge topics, we're also talking about redeeming antagonists, the price of responsibility, divinity, cosmic duologies, and even a little tiny bit of time travel. It's a big, meaty episode, so dig in and let us know what you think by shooting us a message on Twitter, sending us an e-mail, or by joining our discussion group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers on Facebook. If you haven't already, please leave us a rating or review on the podcast application of your choice! You can also support us via Patreon or by purchasing some C&C swag on Redbubble. Keep your eyes peeled for our Time's Convert reading schedule on Twitter and Facebook. Also, MARK YOUR CALENDARS for All Souls Con this October in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Next time, we PLOT.
