Couch Potato Theater: Be Kind & Rewind - John Carter (2012) Watch: Fandom Podcast Network YouTube Channel Link: https://www.youtube.com/@FandomPodcastNetwork Listen: Fandom Podcast Network Audio Podcast Link: https://fpnet.podbean.com/category/couch-potato-theater Welcome to Couch Potato Theater here on the Fandom Podcast Network. Fandom Podcast Network co-founders Kyle and Kevin welcome back special guests, author and friend of the FPN John Mosby, and one of the original FPN co-founders... Norman! Norman came to us with an excellent idea and twist to Couch Potato Theater. Couch Potato Theater is where we celebrate our favorite movies.... usually. But on this special edition of Couch Potato Theater we look back at films that maybe we, or the public opinion originally didn't like! But now, we may have a different opinion, welcome to Couch Potato Theater: Be Kind & Rewind - John Carter (2012). We also welcome special guest, author and journalist John Mosby. John attended a London 2012 John Carter press conference, and shares his experience on that event and the article he wrote on the movie. That Impact Online article can be found here: https://www.impactonline.co/features/669-john-carter-battling-martians-and-marketing Plot: John Carter, a Civil War veteran, who in 1868 was trying to live a normal life, is "asked" by the Army to join, but he refuses, so he is locked up. He escapes and is pursued. Eventually they run into some Indians, and there's a gunfight. Carter seeks refuge in a cave. While there, he encounters someone who is holding some kind of medallion. When Carter touches it, he finds himself in a place where he can leap incredible heights, among other things. He later encounters beings he has never seen before. He meets a woman who helps him to discover that he is on Mars, and he learns that some kind of unrest is going on. John Carter is a 2012 American science fiction action-adventure film directed by Andrew Stanton, written by Stanton, Mark Andrews, and Michael Chabon, and based on A Princess of Mars, the first book in the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Produced by Jim Morris, Colin Wilson and Lindsey Collins, it stars Taylor Kitsch in the title role, with Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy and Willem Dafoe co-starring in supporting roles. No man is an island. Allan Hawco's new series, however, is shot and set on an archipelago of eight islands represented by the French government off the coast of Newfoundland.Hawco, who played a detective on Republic of Doyle and was also on Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, plays Donny "Fitz" Fitzpatrick. He's a cop who gets too nosy about police secrets and is therefore banished to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. There he is paired with local police officer Geneviève "Arch" Archambault (Joséphine Jobert from Death in Paradise). Sparks fly and plot lines ensue.Hawco talks about creating the series with Robina Lord-Stafford and Perry Chaffe, and starting a TV production base pretty much from scratch with Saint-Pierre -- an even bigger challenge than getting Doyle off the ground years ago in Newfoundland. James Purefoy also stars in Saint-Pierre, which airs Monday nights after Murdoch Mysteries on CBC and CBC Gem.

As long as midnight cloaks the earth with shadows grim and dark, God save us from the Judas kiss of a dead man in the dark. The Fearsome Touch of Death by Robert E. Howard, that's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Your 5 star reviews on Apple Podcasts are appreciated, nospammers2010 gave us 5 Stars and says, “Expert curation of the golden age. I've been a fan of sci-fi for decades, and very much appreciate the quality of the golden age writers. What sets this podcast apart is that the curator and narrator has a perfect discerning eye for the really good stuff--by which I mean his tastes match mine... This is a podcast to cherish.” Thanks for your excellent review nospammers2010!Today marks the debut on the podcast of a man who made his mark on the world in a short 30 years. Robert E. Howard was born in Peaster, Texas in 1906. Over the next 11 years young Robert would live in 10 Texas towns. He started writing stories at the age of 9. Sold his first story for $16 to Weird Tales magazine when he was 19.Howard would most likely be forgotten except for diehard sci-fi fans if not for three characters he created that live on to this day. Arnold Schwarzenegger's breakthrough film was the sword and sorcery epic Conan the Barbarian in 1982. The movie was based on the character Robert E. Howard created in a series of short stories half a century earlier. Before Conan, Howard created Kull the Conqueror, which also appeared on the big screen starring Kevin Sorbo in 1997. And his creative universe also included Solomon Kane, you guessed it, it too got the Hollywood treatment in 2009 starring James Purefoy. He wrote more than 70 short stories with most of them published in Weird Tales magazine. Today's horrifying tale can be found in the February 1930 issue of Weird Tales on page 269, The Fearsome Touch of Death by Robert E. Howard…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, What happened to the Smith Wrecking and Salvage Company when it tried to tear down the all fluoryl plastic City Hall is enough to make a man with a heart of stone laugh. In the final episode of Raising Standards we speak to James Purefoy (Mark Antony) and Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus). Raising Standards, an occasional rewatch podcast of HBO's Rome, hosted by Rhiannon Evans and Matt Smith of the Emperors of Rome podcast.
Tread Perilously's Failed Prestige month continues with the second episode of Hap and Leonard, "The Bottoms." Hap is still trying to find the bridge from his childhood that will lead to the river that, in turn, will lead to the money Howard hired him to find. Leonard is less sure as Howard's goons are both dumb and dangerous. He also gets a phone call that will force him to leave town. Later, Hap finds himself in a show of bravado with Howard and facing renewed affections from his ex-wife, Trudy. Will it turn out she's been withholding the real location of the river? Erik is thrilled to see James Purefoy in a series, but is unsure about the episode as a discrete segment of story. The rest of the cast, which includes Michael Kenneth Williams as Leonard, Christina Hendricks as Trudy, and an almost unrecognizable Neil Sandilands as one of Howard's goons are also welcome even as the plot flounders. Howard's actor, however, ends up being the one Erik and Justin want to recast. Justin tries to recall if he finished Hap and Leonard's first season. Erik's opinion of Ahsoka slides a little bit. A wild Jimmi Simpson appears and the pair debate whether or not connective tissue episodes work.
If a movie is released and no-one is there to see it, does it make a sound....and lots of historical errors? James Purefoy is back and he is once again making a movie that is fun but not necessarily...good? Ollie has a good time and Sarah has a mild breakdown at just how many things this movie gets wrong!
This week, he will, he will rock you as we begin the first themeless month on the pod in quite a while with a movie that Hayley has seen north of 50 times and Justin has never seen before now. It's 2001's A Knight's Tale, written and directed by Brian Helgeland, and starring Heath Ledger, Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon, Paul Bettany, Mark Addy, Alan Tudyk, Laura Fraser and James Purefoy. It's the movie that firmly cemented Ledger as a movie star, as Helgeland crafts an underdog sports movie in the world of medieval jousting. Plus we've got theatrical field trips to report on as Hayley caught Drive-Away Dolls this week, while J Mo took in the Tenet re-release on 70mm. If you'd like to watch the film before listening to our discussion, A Knight's Tale is currently streaming on Netflix in Canada at the time of publication. Other works discussed on this episode include Macbeth, Dune: Part 2, Madame Web, Mr. 3000, Top Gun, 10 Things I Hate About You, Lords of Dogtown, I'm Not There, Brokeback Mountain, The Dark Knight, Capote, Dark City, Dazed & Confused, Rollerball, Payback, The Order, L.A. Confidential, Mystic River, Blood Work, Man on Fire, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant. We'll be back next week to celebrate one full year of ADHD-DVD as we die and go to buddy-cop heaven with Stallone and Kurt Russell in 1989's Tango & Cash. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
Crítica RESIDENT EVIL (2002) por Jaime V. Echagüe película dirigida por Paul W.S. Anderson con Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, James Purefoy
In this Patron's Choice episode, we're venturing into the territory of sword and sorcery master Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane (2009), M. J. Bassett's largely forgotten action adventure film starring James Purefoy as the brutal privateer turned Puritan avenger on a quest to rescue a young pilgrim girl from an evil sorcerer. This one vanished without a trace after a bungled release in the US, where it was held up by legal issues, so few genre fans had a chance to witness its glorious locations, gritty tone, bone crunching action and stunning stunts on the big screen. But does it stand the test of time, or is it an unremarkable addition to the post-Lord-of-the-Rings high fantasy boom of the noughties? Find out! Happy Wine Wednesday! Candi makes her triumphant return to the podcast to help me celebrate 100 episodes of the podcast! In honor of this special occasion, I decided to talk about one of my absolute favorite series of all time - HBO's Rome. Candi and I unpack the pilot episode of the series. I was delighted that she loved the show so much that she ended up watching the whole thing! This episode focuses on the pilot only and I think we make a convincing case as to why you should keep watching if you are also new to the series. We'll definitely be revisiting more of it now that I know Candi loved it as much as I did. The episode kicks off with a few reflections on reaching 100 and then we get into all things Rome. As with all of our pilot episode discussions, we reflect on character introductions, writing choices, what we thought was effectively done, and we close with the thirst segment. I also sprinkle in a few historical tidbits for a little razzle dazzle. It was such a pleasure to mark this exciting occasion not only by discussing a show that I love, but it was a great opportunity to celebrate the amazingly talented Ray Stevens. His portrayal of Titus Pullo is truly the heart of this entire series. Many thanks to each and every guest who has given their time to the podcast. It was an honor to speak to each and every one of you. And thank YOU, listeners, for your support. I love you and I appreciate you.Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time.Find and follow Candi on Twitter here. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent infection. The parent corporation sends in an elite military unit, where they meet Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computer and get out, fighting their way past zombies, mutants, and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly-returning memories. Resident Evil is a 2002 action horror film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The film stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, James Purefoy, Martin Crewes, and Colin Salmon. It is the first installment in the Resident Evil film series, which is loosely based on the video game series of the same name. Borrowing elements from the video games Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, the film follows amnesiac heroine Alice and a band of Umbrella Corporation commandos as they attempt to contain the outbreak of the T-virus at a secret underground facility. German studio Constantin Film bought the rights to adapt the series in January 1997. Several writers and filmmakers, such as Alan B. McElroy, George A. Romero and Jamie Blanks, were initially hired to direct and write the film, but their scripts were rejected. In 2000, Anderson was announced as writer and director. Developed as a prequel set in the same continuity as the video game series, the film was initially titled Resident Evil: Ground Zero, but was retitled after the September 11 attacks. Cast was announced in early 2001 and principal photography commenced in March 2001 in Berlin. Resident Evil was theatrically released in Germany on March 12, 2002, by Constantin Film Verleih, and in the United Kingdom on July 12, 2002, by Screen Gems and Pathé Distribution. The film received generally negative reviews from critics and grossed $103 million worldwide against a production budget of $33 million. It was followed by five sequels establishing their own alternate continuity: Apocalypse (2004), Extinction (2007), Afterlife (2010), Retribution (2012), and The Final Chapter (2016).

Their story has inspired two films, “Fisherman's Friends” and the sequel, which is in theatres now, “Fisherman's Friends: One and All,” starring James Purefoy and now it's a stage show called “Fisherman's Friends: The Musical which has just touched diown at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto after a successful run in the UK. Then, Enrico Colantoni stops by. You know the talented actor from portraying Elliot DiMauro in the sitcom “Just Shoot Me!,” Keith Mars on the television series “Veronica Mars.” On the big screen he has appeared in the films “Galaxy Quest,” “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” “Contagion,” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” Today we talk about his latest film, a comedy about four stoners, the self-proclaimed "Vandits", have a bright idea to knock over a senior citizens bingo hall on Christmas Eve. In this segment we talk about the unusual way he paid for theatre school in New York City and how the cast and crew of “Vandits” persevered after all their equipment was stolen the night before they were to start shooting. Finally, we'll meet Elegance Bratton, the film director who turned his story of being a young gay man, who found unexpected strength, camaraderie and support when he joined the Marines, after being rejected by his mother, into a critically acclaimed film called “The Inspection.” It is a classic against-all-odds story that paints a vivid picture of life inside the boot camp, the dehumanization, the violence, but also the brotherhood. The movie carefully builds the world of the boot camp, creating a palette of claustrophobia, brutality and tension that adds layers to the telling of his survival story.

“Know, oh prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars. James Purefoy is one of Britain's most prolific actors, appearing in everything from the Royal Shakespeare Company to Netflix's Sex Education. But his latest film, Fisherman's Friends: One and For All, while ostensibly about a bunch of Cornish blokes who sing sea shanties, is really about the fragile issue that is male mental health. James joins Bryony to talk about dealing with the grief of his father, while playing a character grieving their father, boarding schools as a place to 'cauterise people's emotions' and the power of articulating your pain. Fisherman's Friends: One and For All is in cinemas across the UK and Irelands from Friday 19th August |Read more from Bryony: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/authors/bryony-gordon/ |For 30 days' free access to The Telegraph: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/madworld |Follow Bryony on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bryonygordon/ |See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Actor James Purefoy joins Nikki Bedi and Richard Coles to talk about Fisherman's Friends One and All. From Mark Antony in Rome to The Black Prince in A Knight's Tale, James talks about his long and wide-ranging career. The Singh Twins are visual artists whose colourful and acclaimed work draws on traditional Indian techniques, Western medieval illuminated manuscripts and contemporary Western culture. They talk about their close bond and identifying as 'twindividuals'. Adeline Vining found a vintage Dior dress belonging to her grandmother in a suitcase in the attic. When she posted a TikTok of herself wearing the dress, she went viral. Fashion historians got involved, suggesting the dress was made by Christian Dior himself, and estimating its worth at £35,000. The discovery also helped Adeline uncover the story of her grandmother's life. Lesley Pearse has been a bestselling novelist for many years, and has lived an extraordinary life. After spending time in an orphanage, she found herself working as a bunny girl in Soho in her teens. When she became pregnant she was forced to give her son up for adoption. Years later she has reconnected with her son, and discovered the huge family she never knew she had. Also we have the Inheritance Tracks of producer and DJ Paul Oakenfold, who chooses Elvis Presley's Rubberneckin' and Marvin Gaye's What's Going On. Fisherman's Friends: One and All is in cinemas from 19th August. The Singh Twins' exhibition ‘Slaves of Fashion' is on at FirstSite in Colchester until 11th September. Lesley Pearse's latest novel Deception is available now. Producer: Tim Bano

This week we bring it back to the 1800s with two period pieces!First, we review the 2004 film Vanity Fair starring James Purefoy alongside Reese Witherspoon in this period film based off of a novel. This oh-so-boring plot was made better by the strength of Reese's acting! Listen to find out how we balance an underwhelming plot with good acting in our rankings. Next up is another 1800s written work turned film - the 2002 film The Importance of Being Earnest. Colin Firth and Judi Dench round out a strong cast alongside Reese Witherspoon. Despite Reese having a smaller role in this movie, we found the plot to be a lot more engaging than Vanity Fair! Tune in as Shelby Schwieterman and Sam Frontera (The Rom Complex) hang out on 2CC to cover the 2001 rock ‘n roll medieval sports adventure, A Knight's Tale. They also chat about Nike product placement, the aural creativity of foley artists, and whether or not Rufus Sewell always plays villains (considering Arthur looked up The Man in the High Castle post-recording and found out that he does indeed play the main antagonist as the Reichsführer of Nazi America, let's say the answer is “yes”). Directed by Brian Helgeland (42), A Knight's Tale stars Heath Ledger, Shannyn Sossamon, Rufus Sewell, Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk, Mark Addy, Laura Fraser, Berenice Bejo, James Purefoy, and Christopher Cazenove. Spoilers start at 12:00 Note: Arthur was mistaken. Helgeland's Legend is a gangster movie, not a spy movie. Good Word: • Sam: ABC's Abbott Elementary • Shelby: House of Leaves by Mark Z. 2002's Resident Evil directed by Paul W. S. Anderson caused a ripple effect amongst the gaming franchise's fanbase that divided the community seemingly in half. While some appreciate the attempt to expand the property beyond the video game consoles, others ridicule the film for what would come after it; a slew of near-lifeless, uninspired, high budget, schlocky sequels that left a bad taste in many a RE fan's mouth. That being said, there's still a lot of good in Anderson's first outing that needs to be reevaluated. So as the release of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City draws ever near, we're doing just that. Come along with us as we discuss Nathan's love for Korn, which celebrity would most likely be the Wesker of real life, sentient blood, and a plethora of other insane topics all while joined by esteemed guest and Resident Evil guru Nick (better known as Neptune) from The Resident Evil Podcast!Resident Evil stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, James Purefoy, and Martin Crewes. This week's episode is about one of my favorite guilty-pleasure movies; A Knight's Tale. This movie stars Heath Ledger, Rufus Sewell, and Shannyn Sossamon, but is really filled out by some great supporting work from Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk, Mark Addy and James Purefoy. A Knight's Tale was the big coming out party for Heath Ledger as he had really not done much before this other than 10 Things I Hate About You, which seems really strange because what is essentially a sports movie about a sport that hasn't been seriously played for hundreds of years is not exactly the formula for a break out, but that's exactly what happened. He's undeniably charming, his acting is solid, and you can tell that he did a lot of the stunts himself, which definitely adds to the entertainment factor.
This week we're talking about A Knight's Tale (2001), written and directed by Brian Heleland, and starring Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell, Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk, James Purefoy, Shannyn Sossamon, and Laura Fraser. While it's not a great film, A Knight's Tale is definitely fun, and provides you with a harmless enough viewing experience. With the subversive approach to music and sporting events presented, we would have liked something a bit more as far as social commentary, but at least we got a killer Paul Bettany performance here. If you want to talk about A Knight's Tale, shoot us an email at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@Gmail.com.
