Let me take you on a trip to the old country, back to 1843. Thats where our story today starts. Nestled in the Tennessee landscape is Old Dominick. This was an excellent episode with Clark. Hope you find value in it. A year after his birth, three of his mother's brothers leave for America, settling in Memphis, where they start a successful wholesale grocery business that includes liquor and wine.1859DOMENICO CANALE ARRIVES IN AMERICASixteen-year-old Domenico Canale sails for America, landing in New Orleans after a 65 day-long voyage. From there, he travels up the Mississippi to Memphis, Tennessee where he worked for his uncle, Abraham Vaccaro, running a modest fruit cart up and down the streets of Memphis.1866Canale formally establishes food wholesaler D. Canale & Co., and sets up operations in a warehouse at 8 Madison St. near Front. Among its offering is a whiskey, sold in ceramic jars and bottles, that Canale names Old Dominick.1880Canale develops the Dominick Toddy, a bourbon-based cordial with fruity overtones that must have spoken to the former fruit stand operator. It was described as the “one of which we are the proudest” and its label featured the now iconic Dominicker Rooster.1919Just three days before the ratification of the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution, better known as Prohibition, Domenico Canale passes away at the age of 75 in his Midtown home.1921During Prohibition, Domenico's eldest son, John Dominick Canale, expanded D. Canale's food and product operations. With distribution up and down the Mississippi from Chicago to the Gulf of Mexico, as far east as Atlanta, and west into Indian Territory, it was one of the largest grocery distributors in the region.1933By the time Prohibition was repealed in 1933, D. Canale and Company was operating the largest refrigerated warehouses in Memphis, which caught the attention of Anheuser-Busch. Most beer at the time was unpasteurized and had to be refrigerated, as a result of their refrigeration and an established distribution footprint, D. Canale was awarded exclusive regional distribution rights for Anheuser-Busch beers.1965A young John D. Canale, Jr. becomes President of D. Canale following his father's untimely death. A graduate of Yale and a Lieutenant in the Navy, John D., known by many as “The Bear”, led D. Canale into some of its most prosperous years by diversifying into institutional food and banking. He conceived of the company bywords, “Quality Products, Quality Service, by Quality People,” which we remember to this day.1982John D. Canale Jr and his wife, Peggy, had two sons; John D. Canale III and Chris W. Canale. Planning for future generations, John D. Canale Jr. spun both the food business and the beer business out from under the parent company D. Canale and Company in 1982, thereby creating D. Canale Food Services, Inc., and D. Canale Beverages, Inc.1999After 125 years of continuous operation, D. Canale Food Services is sold. At the 125th Anniversary celebration, a grateful John D. Canale Jr. reminded his friends, family, customers, and the company's hundreds of employees that “Quality and Service are remembered long after the price is forgotten.” With the beverage industry trending towards craft beer, wine and spirits, the family sold D. Canale Beverages at its peak in 2010.
This week we drop an interview. Our guest, Domenico Musumeci, is a farmer and winemaker. We discuss farming in western Michigan, storytelling, and much much more.
Miranda Barnhart Domenico, a mom of two, came to the Hoffman Process wanting to heal from a recent, painful breakup. Even before arriving at the retreat site, Miranda realized that she was coming for so much more. With two difficult relationships behind her, Miranda discovered that blaming her ex-partners wasn't helping. Instead, she found that by looking back to her childhood she could heal what was driving the difficulties in her relationships. As she joyfully recounts, Miranda was reunited with her young self at the Process. Her story gives us deep insight into the nature of negative patterns and the Negative Love Syndrome. Miranda can now talk about her painful childhood story without being nearly as triggered. From the time she was young, Miranda had lived her life disconnected from both her emotional self and her Spiritual Self. Learning about the Quadrinity reconnected Miranda back to her Spirit and her emotions. Now, one of the most important things she wants to impart to her daughters is the understanding that feeling, and talking about, their emotions is vital to healthy relating. We hope you enjoy this powerful Love's Everyday Raidus conversation with Miranda and Drew. More about Miranda Barnhart Domenico: Miranda Barnhart Domenico, a mom of two, moved to Colorado, on her own, directly after high school, balancing college and work while building a tech career. She embraced travel, outdoor adventures, and her career until building a family shifted her focus in her 30s. Though Miranda stepped back from some of the outdoor pursuits she loved, her dedication to being an athlete, an exceptional mom, and a driven professional never wavered. She hadn't realized that she wasn't doing any of those three things wholly as she had fallen prey to trying to master all three without emotion and a deeper purpose. It wasn't until Miranda's divorce and other personal challenges led her to the Hoffman Process in 2019, that she rediscovered her authentic self. Now, she leads with vulnerability, inspiring others through connection. Once ultra-independent, Miranda channels that strength into leadership, mentoring at work, coaching young athletes, and finding purpose in empowering others. Her mission is clear: to show up authentically and create spaces where others feel inspired to do the same. Follow Miranda on Instagram and LinkedIn. As mentioned in this episode: The Quadrinity - Symbol of the Process Quad checks for grads and non-grads alike daily on Instagram at 6:00 pm PT White Sulphur Springs, Hoffman's old retreat site Bashing day: Bashing is one form of Expression done in the Process. to help students somatically release the negative patterns. To let go of our patterns, we must exercise our free will – choose to step out of a pattern and take action using our Voice, Body, and Intention. Expression is not necessarily about anger – it's about “claiming” your life. It's about taking a stand. Sometimes that includes anger, but it can also be about joy, love, commitment, and empowerment. Join Nathan Terborg he recounts the exhilarating journey of his solo exhibition at Gallerie Benjamin Eck in Munich and the captivating artist talk with curator Domenico de Cirico. 11/6/24 - Domenico da Cese was a priest and Cappuchin friar. He showed signs of a special gift from a young age, correctly predicting an impending earthquake on the day of its occurrence at the age of nine. After becoming a priest in October of 1931, he would eventually travel to San Giovanni and become a close friend of Pio of Pietrelcina, known popularly as Padre Pio. Some years later, he would have his first contact with the Shroud of the Holy Face of Manoppello, eventually committing to sharing the devotion of that Holy Face with as many people as possible.

Send us a textWhat does it look like across three mediums when a new style harmonizes, and the conventions of the Middle Ages take a new form? Looking at three diverse artists and three different patrons, as well as an example of painting, sculpture, and architecture, this episode argues for the legibility of new stylistic concepts that constitute the modernity of the 15th century. Ultimately, this interaction gives insight to the intentions of the patrons in question, Cosimo de' Medici, Paolo Guinigi, and the Uzzano family. In doing so, works like Michelozzo's Palazzo Medici can be seen in conjunction with Domenico Veneziano's Saint Lucy Altarpiece, or with Jacopo della Quercia's sculptural works. With radical innovation and antique revival at the center, this episode evaluates the artist-patron relationship and the effects of multi-medium stylistic solidification against the Quattrocento public eye.Works Discussed:Michelozzo, Palazzo Medici, ca. 1446.Jacopo della Quercia, Monument to Ilaria del Carretto, 1406.Domenico Veneziano, Saint Lucy Altarpiece, ca. 1446.Get additional content by becoming a Patron: patreon.com/TheItalianRenaissancePodcast Support the show
