Chingonas Only Club is part of The Amplify Her Media Network. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that may occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, series of events, or set of circumstances. An individual may experience this as emotionally or physically harmful or life-threatening, affecting mental, physical, social, and spiritual well-being. Examples include natural disasters, serious accidents, terrorist acts, war/combat, rape/sexual assault, historical trauma, intimate partner violence, and bullying. Many women experience several different types of PTSD from traumatic events stemming from sexual/domestic abuse, sexual assault, harassment, and various other traumas that most often plague the female population. However, society most commonly associates men with PTSD and some war-related trauma. For this reason, many women often go undiagnosed and end up coping with their PTSD alone. Today, we are talking to Natalie Padilla, a female veteran discharged from the Navy this year due to service-related PTSD. Natalie is here to talk about her experiences with PTSD, what she learned about herself, how she is coping with it and how she imagines her future now that she has accepted that PTSD is a permanent part of her life. Natalie also shares some PTSD resources with our listeners that have been helpful to her. I had to address why I feel so strongly about alcohol. As with everything we do as humans, we use our past experiences to help us make decisions, but sometimes, our trauma guides us away from any triggers or factors that could harm those we love. Is it logical? I am not sure, but I do know this is a personal choice for me. What hurts is the negative impacts drinking can have on kids indirectly, how our behavior when we drink and the choices we make when drunk put our kids at risk, and how adults don't understand or seem even to want to acknowledge this. So here it is, another point of view, possibly one you had not previously considered. Chingonas Only Club music was created by Natalie Padilla

The difference is that colorism is veiled in backhanded compliments, micro aggressions, and sown deep into our culture by the same people inciting racism and discrimination towards our communities, but perpetrated by people who share our same race and cultural backgrounds. How can we talk about colorism to our parents? Is it something you have ever experienced or benefited from? Imposter Syndrome is a term used more frequently in recent times, primarily by our BIPOC and other minorities like us Women. It is the feeling of inadequacy, the lack of trust in our own abilities and skills, and the constant internal battle with ourselves about the things we deserve. Most discussions around imposter syndrome bring to light the fact that it is common to feel this way and focus on reassurance to those experiencing it that you in fact are worthy of all your accomplishments. What is not commonly discussed is the long-term negative impacts of being left with imposter syndrome over a long period of time can have on your mental health and overall well-being. Imposter Syndrome often leads to a need to overachieve in all aspects of your life only to feel like you are doing enough, although with this syndrome enough is a continuously moving goal line. This week's episode is a discussion on my own experience with Imposter Syndrome, how I realized I was experiencing it, and what toll it took on my mental health. I also discuss my mental health journey and how it started as well as the stigmas and how to address both issues. Have you ever been heartbroken? Who hasn't?! The truth is we have all experienced heartbreak, as kids, as teenagers, and as adults, and each time what we go through changes us. Those changes can be for the better or for the worst. I can genuinely say I have experienced both. In today's episode, I share my childhood heartbreak, and although it sounds like it was romance-related, in fact, it was friendship. I am choosing to share this ridiculous story so we can remind each other that children experience this too, and for those who have kids, remember that at that moment, heartbreak can be devastating. Sam is joining me today as my first guest and she is here to share her very adult romantic heartbreak. Join us as she dives deep into vulnerability and shares her very intimate experience to show that as dark and awful as things may be, sometimes they happen for a reason and we are better for it. We can learn so much about ourselves and how we want to be treated through such devastating experiences. This is why Sam is a Chingona. This week I am diving deep and answering everyone's most commonly asked question about my father. Parental relationships can be devastated by traumatic experiences, and father-daughter relationships are difficult to manage without complications. This is my experience and logic for why I have chosen to have the relationship with my father that I have today, and how I got there. What kind of impact did my decisions have on my mental health and how mental health has impacted my entire family. Let's talk about cultural and gender stereotypes! How does this impact women everywhere? Do we talk about it enough in the general public or do we only share with our friends? Have you ever experienced or witnessed these behaviors? If so....What did you do? Join me as I tell you some of my most memorable experiences with cultural and gender stereotypes and how I dealt or stood by as they occurred. Discrimination and Racism breed all of these biases and stereotypes, they impact women everywhere, but when you experience them in the workplace, it is by far the most frustrating place, because composure, attitude, and overall response can impact your career. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/melly-ramirez/support
