All about managing, leading and coaching your people in a business. Global Leadership hint tips and conversation.
JB and Ant are back on tour with their microphone, enabling joyous conversation in 'exotic' places. This week, in an industrial park, near Barcelona. Joined by an employee of a customer, Duncan (Duncy to JB and Ant) joins them to chat about generational differences, following 2 pieces of research by HR Magazine and SEEDL. Additionally, they discuss SEEDL's partner Perkbox's recent survey about manager disconnect with company leadership. That and their usual bants!
Are we going to see the return of the micromanager? If the new government bring in new employment laws, Ant & JB consider if it will. Will recruiting change? Will performance management dominate the inbox and day job of the leader? Or something else. That and your questions at glp@seedl.com
It's been a while since JB and Ant did the pod thing, and we felt it! You'll be pleased (or horrified) to hear that this is a start of a rather long series. Given Ant and JB will be back on tour a fair bit in the coming months, you'll be hearing a lot more from them! Today, Ant reveals there's a closer connection to Colleague Engagement and Share price, than the impact of Customer Satisfaction scores. What can leaders do, to stop it. Ant and JB also talk about Matrix (and it's decision making complexities), and the importance of a coalition of thinking (or something to that effect). As ever, listener questions welcome, GLP@seedl.com
Ant from the SEEDL Global Leadership Podcast is joined by Jo Nash Chief Learning Officer of SEEDL to spend an hour talking all things Learning and Development. As streamed on LinkedIn and across our SEEDL user network.
After scuppering their recording from Spain, Ant and JB are back on home soil. Today talking all things leadership including 'emotional intelligence' in leadership and listener questions on dealing with those who think length of service should be treated as a capability score. Note, there's a hint of politics in here too... not too much!
It's the first episode of 2024. We've been at these podcasts on and off for 6 years, so to be honest, we decided to 'coast it'. But it turned out to not be a badd'en.... With all the chaos in the world, we couldn't think of anything worse than being a 'world leader' and yet - we found ourselves concluding that actualy being a leader in a business could be the sanctuary you and our direct reports could really value. it's full of swears today (unusually Ant was ahead of JB for a change), so marked explicit for your auditary guidance. That and your listener questions. Keep 'em coming! GLP@seedl.com
Well - oddly, we decided to record a Global Leadership Podcast with Joanna Nash covering a multitude of subjects! Sales Lesdership and the role it has in wider leadership skillsets. Why do we lose new hires within 90 days? And why does JB want to now be known as Annabel? All this and more!
It's often the least planned that offer the best insight; that's what JB and Ant think, anyway! This week a few topics have cropped up on Webinars, namely - in Leadership, who is responsible for managing relationships between a leader and their direct report? Has Leadership capability naturally progressed over the last 18 years? Are Leaders still powering over people with their technical knowledge, opposed to capability. That and the usual bants. Ant/JB are super hip, so can use terms like 'Bants' and totally own it! Got a listener question? glp@seedl.com is your destination email address.
This week, JB and Ant were joined by Lisa Shephard and Vivianna Vazquez two leaders from Miami in the US, joining GLP for one week only to give their infinite wisdom! We covered Leadership styles and your personal branding, toxic people in teams, AI and Lisa/Vivianna's own experiences. Note - Lisa HAS now named her Podcast - Brits in Miami. Go now - subscribe!!
This week Ant and JB revisit the challenges and opportunities of remote working, and what it's doing to engagement and staff retention. That and the usual listener questions, which you can email in at glp@SEEDL.com
JB and Ant return for another spell binding episode of waffle, fun and occasionally genius tips! This time they look at why company's sometimes fall in to the trap of hiring a narcicist as a CEO, plus rattle though a number of listener questions. Got one? email glp@seedl.com
Well WHAT a devisive headline that is! Ant and JB kick about the challenges leaders' face managing people 'across the generational divide'. They also consider the challenges of uniting people when you may not even be the chosen boss! "There's more that unites, than divides us, surely!?" That and listener questions - send yours to glp@seedl.com
It's probably a title that will appear on this podcast only ever ONCE. JB and Ant unpack the UK noise around Gary Lineker (a British BBC Sport's Broadcaster) and his social media usage with the wider impact on the importance on Leadership and its role of impartiality in the workplace. Do JB and Ant think the impartiality rules at the BBC need to be tightened? If this happened in your business, what would you do!? Some interesting discussions iced with some tasty listener questions. Send yours to glp@SEEDL.com
A special episode from SEEDL, where Anthony spends an inspiring hour with 4 incredible women who share their stories of challenges, proud moments, inspirational role models and advice for women (and all) on International Women's Day. Guests Nadia Obeid, Joanna Nash, Vicky Cousins & Laura Avery.
This week, JB and Ant talk perfectionism! Are you one of those leaders who shy away from taking risks or doing things differently for fear of it not being spot on? Are you someone that just can't cope with anything less than perfect?! Finally the duo are joined (for the last 20 minutes) by Vicky Cousins, a safeguarding expert talking about what we need to do as leaders to look out for concerns in the workplace. That and your listener questions!
Well - what an action packed hour this week was. JB and Ant get time to answer one listener question with so much going on. They talk L&D and the roles of leaders to drive learning in teams, along with burnout in Leadership. With Jacinda Ardern resigning last week (from when we recorded), do we give too much of a hard time to those at the top? Do they get the support they probably need?? Joined by Legend Laura from SEEDL.
So SEEDL's new year resolution is to upload these sooner. In this episode (recorded in front of a live audience) was the last of 2022. Be in JB and Ant's live audience, by signing up for free at SEEDL.com
JB and Ant have been hosting live podcasts on SEEDL, but naughty them, didn't send them to the 'world' outside. Enjoy the usual hour of Leadership themes and conversation plus listener questions!
This week JB and Ant (beside talking about JB's granddaughter's visit) talk about their attrition and conversation style study, coupled with knowing, focussing and valuing your people.
This week, Ant and JB talk about the risk of our 'outside voice' as a leader. If we leave a company, how do we preserve our reputation so as not to alienate future clients, or hiring managers? Ant & JB discuss alongwith your usual listener questions. Be in the live audience by signing up at SeedL.
One of the more poignant podcasts we've done, given the time of recording was day 4 of the invasion of Ukraine. We hope the podcast ages well, as we sensitively unpack the leader of Ukraine's leadership over the past few weeks and debate 'what is it' that makes good war time leader's great - if they exist?
In this week's episode, JB and Ant discuss leadership in startups as well as fast growth companies and the risk of fast growth's impact on those founding employees. Inspired by a tweet they read online, it's an interesting take. Plus - as ever - listener questions!! Be in the live audience, for free at SeedL.com
JB and Ant are back.... and it's unusually lacking in 'coroporate leadership' instead begging hypothetical leadership questions of 'government'..... we're certain this episode won't age well, but never mind! Be in the live audience and ask them questions for FREE at www.seedl.com
Hmmmm - promise no theories, BUT with the C word getting more noise again - where is the world leadership?
A sensitive look this week about our leadership of publicly elected people. Whilst they're seen as leaders in the community - as we elected them, do we really know, focus and value the people we placed in those positions? Aside from the reflective start, usual service of chat fun and audience interaction is never far away.
You saw it in the title - it's rearing it's ugly head yet again. Why is it business so often forget these 2 components, yet fail to associate gaps in their success due to the lack of it! Usual conversation and listener questions.
So leaders... feeling the love so much that you think it's ok to stretch the loyalty by abusing it? Riding high in the polls and call a snap election for it only to fail? Ant and JB debate what's right and wrong about Canada's recent election and how that translates to a abuse of employee loyalty in business.
As the title suggests, this week we explore the idea of being courageous as a leader. Is it just about the 'roar' or is it more modest?
Unusually Ant has some IT glitches, which normally sits with JB to champion. They muddle through an hour of leadership themes including Olympics and listener questions. Be in the audience, sign up for free on SeedL.com
They're back... JB had a week off in his bongo, and as JB and Ant coast toward a 2 week break in August, this week as ever they tackle leadership themes of the day and your listener questions. Be in the live audience at SeedL.com
As we published this AFTER the final, we thought it might be useful BEFORE you listen. We recorded this the day after the semis. We discussed Mr Southgate's leadership and as ever your delightful listener questions.
This week, JB and Ant chew through the news around Brewdog; is their leadership needing to change given the bad press, now potentially puts the company's survival in jeopardy? Also they discuss the idea of when is best (and how) do leaders communicate with an increasingly remote workforce. That and your listener questions!
Well it's sleepy JB actually, but Joe does feature in this weeks episode. We take a nose at a rather (average in hindsight!) "interesting" article about tone in the workplace... and then tackle the question from a listener, "should you be courageous as a leader, even if it may harm you?" Zzzzz
So JB and Ant were let loose on a Linkedin Live audience today. What could possibly have gone wrong!? GULP! This week, JB brings the subject of 'Change readiness post-pandemic' whilst Ant brings up the leadership learning dilema... that and your questions!
Well this one is a sunny one - weather! Looking back across the last year, Covid has taught us as humans many things - but what have we learned from leaders? What has business learnt with the humans around them resetting the ways they want to work moving forward? As ever JB and Ant chew the fat and chat for your ear's delight!
We've all been there, we leave a conversation without addressing what we really wanted to, and there it is - our subject for today's podcast. That and the latest in the campervan saga...!
We went a little deep this week, it has to be said. But - as ever, never ones to steer away from difficult topics, JB and Ant chew the cud on mindset damaging reputations and the ability to lead. Does our brain sabotage our competence, with constant imposter syndrome? JB also continues his love affair with Tim Gallwey and his Inner Game thinking. That - and the usual listener questions.
This week, Ant and JB dance around toxic cultures. What do leaders do to prevent it, and what do we do as leaders when we have toxic people. Second, with the majority of businesses considering flexible working as we come out of Covid, what will that do to culture and fairness in the workplace?
A cheeky title, but feeds nicely in to our episode. How important is honesty in leadership? Ant & JB discuss the impact of dishonest leaders and the impact it could have on employees and business. That and your listener questions.
Ant & JB are a little giddy. Recording this mid way through a 36 hour non-stop learning bonanza. So - not wanting to let down their fans, they have a fumble, fiddle and chat about courage. Not the sort you get after 4 pints, but the one we need to do things we really 'should' but internal fears stop us from doing. In their rush, they forgot listener questions, which means a double dose of Q&A next week. Sign up to be in the audience at SeedL.com
Well - the title is slightly misleading, as JB is full of lovely morals. Ant on the other hand.... This week is dedicated to the art (or is it science) of story telling. Does a leader just need to communicate facts to inspire, or are we missing an element if we don't include a metaphor. You be the judge!
As JB clears up his shed (whilst it had become a storage facility for booze for his garden book launches) we discuss 'self awareness' and a leaders role it ensuring it exists in themselves and their people. We then debate is 'co-leadership' something that can work? Some politics has seen this, but could it translate to the workplace?
It's one of those rare episodes where 1) we let others in to the party and 2) JB has to share the mic with more than just Ant! We're super proud of JB (ex GWR Radio PLC) along with some brilliant co-authors in William Rogers (ex CEO of UKRD) and Dave Coull (ex Group PD at UKRD) with their new book launch the 'The No Normal Leader' In this action packed hour, the trio (along with Ant's steering) discuss the reality that covid, consolidation, politics create change. But change needs to be accepted as normal. Preparing for a 'new norm', or a holding pattern until 'a new normal' is complacency. No Normal Leadership - should be the default. "Is Covid just a rehearsal for no normal worlds" - have a listen and decide for yourself.
Democratic or Autocratic Leadership, that's the question for JB and Ant today. That, listener questions and JB's superb attempt and comparing leadership to Jesus and Debbie, Dave, Ringo & John.
JB and Ant dance around the subject of when should a leader have an opinion, vs not. Additionally, what do we do if the workforce are seemingly divided, and some are increasingly hostile to another's opinion? That and the truth about JB's closing statements!
Do we need any introduction? This week, JB and Ant explore the 5 ways we have conversations at work, plus your listener questions. Hope you like the new podcast logo!!
Hey you... yes you that keeps sending in questions. We love a question, but sometimes we'd love to hear how you got on with our answer. Write us a postcard, ANYTHING! Anyway this week, new questions plus we tackle the leadership stories of the week. This week we discuss various topics INCLUDING whether leadership can be stifled due to 'consensus by committee'. It's also sunny!! So this episode is sponsored by warmth!
There comes a point in our podcast journey where we could run out of catchy episode titles, BUT NOT THIS WEEK! This week we look at 'emerging' from Covid and the things leaders need to be mindful of as we look forward. We discuss the challenge of disengaged leaders vs engagement projects and a tricky poo... that and your questions. Sign up for being in the live audience at seedl.com
It's tricky isn't it.... you know, office being home and home being the office. How do we transition between one and the other. This week, JB and Ant kick around what leaders need to do, to lead this challenge, whilst also recognising it may need some personal sacrifice, too.
All the usual joys with Ant & JB as they explore the benefits of crystal clear messages. That and a rather challenging question which JB curveballs!
It sounds so simple. But is it??If we treat our life as a leader on a stage, what do we want the audience (our clients) to think? What about our co-actors - what reputation do we want to leave with us being the lead!?Crazy we hear you say - well be confused no more. Ant and JB attempt to distill their thinking along with a live audience also answering listener questions!!
