We know that when we age, our health declines. Or so it seems.. But I'd like to argue an interesting point. Maybe almost all of the data we have on people that have aged is on people who have aged-inactively, or aged-sedentarily? Maybe we get "old" based on having data of "old" people who weren't health-conscience, who didn't do cardiovascular work and resistance training for decades. I believe that while the Human Animal likely has a biological cap on age, I fully believe we can live with vitality, longevity, and a whole lot of life all the way into our late 90's and beyond.
We always hear about being consistent, consistency in this, habits in that. But there's another, less talked about reason that consistency isn't only important but undeniably necessary, when achieving anything in your life. The older we get, the more imperative it is that we put the body under stress, or resistance, which seems counterintuitive right? We are more than likely going to live a long life, depending upon strong we are - and barring accident. When It comes to muscle, there are too many benefits to be able to list, but one of them is having more strength. More strength means you can catch yourself from a potential fall, and avoid other injury which might otherwise occur in our older years, when having strength and muscle is imperative to our lives. The reason It's important to build more muscle today is because, as we age, the ability to add more muscle and strength becomes very hard along with maintaining overall bone density. This is why More muscle = More Life.
There are so many ways that we tick and so many reasons for the actions we end up taking, there's a few things I've been discovering about myself that allude to why conquering ourselves is such a masterful task.
