With a career spanning more than 30 years in the attractions industry, Dameon has held numerous operational and leadership roles across several Six Flags parks, including Great America, Great Adventure, Discovery Kingdom, and an international post in Beijing, China. Most recently, he worked with Meow Wolf to support operational standardization in their immersive art experiences. In this interview, Dameon talks about Mindset, Motivation, and Mastery, Embracing Change, and Putting Value in Your Team. Mindset, Motivation, and Mastery “You have to be motivated to have meaningful conversations and meaningful discussions with the hope of resolving challenges, or realizing opportunities that can be created as well.” Dameon describes mindset as a critical, yet often overlooked, element in leadership. He emphasizes that leaders must choose how they perceive and approach challenges—whether they allow problems to persist or actively seek solutions. He believes motivation fuels the pursuit of those solutions, not just for oneself but for inspiring others. Mastery, in his view, is about empowering team members to align with values and expectations, not just in theory, but through effective execution. He shared how, in a challenging environment plagued with negativity, he personally committed to understanding the team's frustrations, motivating them through action, and leading them toward improvement—illustrating how mindset, motivation, and mastery intersect to drive positive change. Embracing Change “It's easy to do what you know. But when you get the opportunity to step outside of that and understand that there will be challenges... that, I think, is a mindset that is always beneficial to have.” Dameon's career is a blueprint for embracing change. From his first role as a street sweeper to moving across the world to support Six Flags' international projects, he repeatedly stepped outside his comfort zone. He explains that while some individuals are naturally more open to change, everyone should be willing to pursue it when it benefits their personal or professional growth. His time in Beijing taught him patience, cultural understanding, and the value of vulnerability—especially in moments where progress was difficult. By keeping an open mind and maintaining confidence in his abilities, he was able to navigate uncertainty and unfamiliar environments while continuing to grow as a leader. Putting Value in Your Team “Budgets are built in a boardroom and reality is executed out in the parks.” Dameon challenges the idea of viewing employees as mere expenditures. He advocates for seeing labor and operational resources as investments in guest experience, team morale, and long-term success. He shares several stories, including one where a small, inexpensive investment in costume replacements made a significant impact on team morale. He explains that while it may be difficult to prove direct ROI on such investments, the benefits show up in improved guest satisfaction, reduced turnover, and increased engagement. By asking questions like “How can I help?” and demonstrating vulnerability and support, Dameon fosters trust and shows that even minimal investments can yield disproportionate value for both staff and guests. In this episode, Joe Moore welcomes LP Giobbi, an internationally famous DJ, electronic music producer, and jazz pianist. LP shares the story behind Dead House, her project blending Grateful Dead samples with house music. What started as a tribute to her parents during pandemic live streams has become a celebrated musical movement. Joe and LP explore the deeper connection between music and psychedelics. They talk about Bicycle Day, the story of Albert Hofmann's famous LSD bike ride, and how psychedelics can support creativity and personal growth. LP opens up about her own experiences with psychedelics, touring burnout, and how she's learning to reconnect with her body through music and intention. The conversation also highlights LP's work with Fem House, an educational platform that empowers women and gender-expansive individuals in music production. BJ's wife has started working from home. Now she is ALWAYS there. Miley Cyrus released two new songs. One of them is really strange. A woman named Ashley St Claire says Elon isn't paying her the proper amount of child support. Kid Rock was at the Oval Office yesterday while the President was signing an executive order aimed at ticket scalpers. A lot of adults, men included, say they sleep with stuffed animals. Meow Wolf did an April Fools prank that sounds so awesome everyone wants it to be real. We started talking about our morning routines because of the viral video about the guy with the "best morning routine" and learned that Carson uses eye cream every morning. A man in Pennsylvania was found to be targeting Trump supporters by throwing nails and screws under their cars. Tiger Woods just had ankle surgery. This morning he said he is playing in the masters. April fools!!

Kati had a busy South by Southwest, speaking at the Lively Grit Daily House, a panel at the convention center, and a session at New Mexico House. We sat down with her early in the trip, right after her speaking gig at Lively Grit Daily House. The conversation ranged from basketball to bands to whether or not it's cool to have a political stance (spoiler: Kati says it is!), gaming, coolness as a parent, and a lot in between. She also spoke about her job at Meow Wolf - an immersive art adventure and experience - and the brand's relationship with the fleeting concept of coolness.“Now that we have millions of visitors a year, like, I want my next door neighbor, who is a soccer mom, I want her to bring her kids there, you know? I want her to enjoy it and not feel as though she's not cool enough to be there. But at the same time, I want to still have that value described by us, while also being accessible.”Connect with Kati on LinkedIn and find a Meow Wolf location near you (they're coming to LA and New York soon).Special thanks to Lively and Audience 101 for hosting us at SXSW, and YouGov for running the survey that supported our series of conversations. howcoolisthis.show
Real Life Devon had a little adventure at Meow Wolf, which, as expected, was a wild, surreal ride. Also, finally got around to fixing the fence—fingers crossed it actually stays fixed this time. Over in office world, the TV is officially on the wall, the SNES emulator is up and running, and Devon has entered the inevitable "but how does it work?" phase. This led to Ben patiently explaining BIOS, which, if you're curious, has a whole Wikipedia page that is both informative and an excellent cure for insomnia. Meanwhile, Devon has also started reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance because, apparently, philosophy is the next rabbit hole. Steven, on the other hand, has nothing new to report. Just wrangling the circus as usual. Ben is saying a fond farewell to Windows 10 and Skype—pour one out for the relics of the past. In more exciting news, he checked out the demo for Wheel World, and it's super cool. If you haven't seen it yet, it's worth a look on Steam. Also, he's officially made the jump to Linux, currently rocking Kubuntu and going full customization mode. Speaking of Linux, SteamOS is doing some interesting things, which you can check out here. Future or Now Devon got a bit of a scare with the whole “asteroid might hit Earth” thing, but turns out, the European Southern Observatory has pretty much ruled out a 2024 YR4 impact. So, we're good—for now. Still, it brings up the whole Sweet Meteor of Death (SMOD) meme, because wouldn't it just be the most on-brand way for things to go? If you haven't seen Don't Look Up, now's a great time. Also, AES Andes is doing some interesting environmental work, which you can read about here. Ben actually has some good news for once! Engineers have created the first flat telescope lens that can capture color while detecting light from faraway stars. Science is officially magic. If you're curious, Phys.org has all the details. Steven? Still nothing. Just vibes. “Book Club” Next week, we're diving into To Be Taught, If Fortunate the Mirabilis chapter by Becky Chambers, so if you want to read along, now's your chance. This week, we covered To Be Taught, If Fortunate: Please Read This, and Aecor (and Earth)—all Becky Chambers, all the time. We got into some fun (and mildly unsettling) topics, like torpor—aka space hibernation, but with an existential twist. Sleeping without dreaming, aging super slowly—would you do it? And then there's somaforming, where instead of terraforming planets, you change humans to survive in space. Also, radiation-resistant food, glitter face (yes, really), and the idea of “crowd-funded” space travel—would that actually work? Lots to love about these stories so far, and we'll keep the discussion going next time. See you next week!

A look at the highs and lows of adaptations, plus interviews with Chuck Wilts from UNA Productions and Oskar Eustis from New York's Public Theatre In this week's episode of the OnStage Colorado Podcast, hosts Alex Miller and Toni Tresca run down what's on stage around the state now and coming up in the next few weeks. Our main topic this week is adaptations — screen to stage or stage to screen. After seeing the production of Back to the Future: The Musical at the Denver Center recently, we were inspired to look back on adapations that worked and some … not so much. Later in the episode, Alex has two separate interviews related to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Cabaret Club series. The first is with drag performer and choreographer Chuck Wilts, who will appear at the ENT Center over Valentine's Day Weekend in a production called Infinity. The other Cabaret Club production, The Forgotten Arm, is already past, but it was a fascinating conversation with Oskar Eustis. In addition to directing this work in progress, Eustis has been the artistic director at New York's Public Theater for 20 years, so he goes into some of that fascinating experience. And we also review our weekly Top 10 Colorado Headliners — shows coming up we think you might want to check out. We are back! It is now 2025, the holidays are over, and it's time to get back to talking about video games. I was in Las Vegas over the Christmas holiday, and went to AREA15 (along with Meow Wolf's Omega Mart as well as the Asylum Bar and Arcade) as well as the Pinball Hall of Fame. I also picked up Balatro. I won on my second game, and I will now retire from the game forever. (Or will I?) Apple has halted production on their Apple Vision Pro headset because they believe they have produced enough units to meet the demand over the headset's lifetime. Stern Pinball has announced a new Dungeons & Dragons pinball machine with celebrity voiceovers as well as a procedurally generated dungeon that changes every Sunday. Then we talk to Rob about my virtual pinball cabinet, and how Zen Studios unlocked the cabinet mode for free for Pinball FX3 users, rather than forcing you to jump through hoops to get a free activation code.
BIO VEIL is the highly explosive, dark and mysterious byproduct of many years of creative evolution. Her former DJ project spacegeishA toured the globe, and is one of VEIL's biggest influences, giving her the strength and confidence to take risks and set trends. It's fun to reminisce with friends about past horrors, right? Well, this one is a bit more literal as the first thing Royale w/ Cheese wanted to talk about was Halloween Ends and that's a past horror to me for all the wrong reasons. No, the name of the day is JASON EGAN and we're talking his IP based escape rooms offered off the strip in Las Vegas, NV. We first did The BLAIR WITCH, then we did SAW, and finished it with IT chapters 1 and 2. All were amazing. All were gush-able. But the crown jewel rests in Area 15 - let's talk MEOW WOLF. Maybe not. Keep the spoilers free, here. You need to go, you need to experience it yourself - just TRUST ME. GO. DO IT. But that's all that we covered as far as our recent trip to Sin City goes. I couldn't have this guy back for his second episode without reading SOMETHING though, right? Of course not. Let's get classic with it! We read a classic creepy pasta, submitted by our listener and patron TrevorTheWereFishy and then we go a NoSleep story I've been holding onto for a while. Strap in and strap on, folks. Brandon Zech and Gabriel Martinez discuss their experience visiting "Radio Tave," the new Houston branch of the Meow Wolf franchise. "One of the things about Meow Wolf and about the individual, but ultimately collective, authorship is that in someone's room, it doesn't say who the artist is, with a little plaque on the wall. It's about the experience — it's about the feeling that the room creates." This week we unpack multisensory commerce, the economical ebb and flow of re-commerce, and reflect on Phillip's keynote at the Motion Creative Strategy Summit. PLUS: Spooky Commerce is back. Phillip, Brian, and Sarah journey to a haunted 1980's Bay Area Toys R Us.The Duality of RecommerceKey takeaways:Tactile interactions produce profound experiences – something digital media cannot replicate. Phillip's keynote presentation at the Motion Creative Strategy Summit highlighted the polymathic inspiration of tactile creativity.[00:09:30] “Things that you consider to be highly immersive aren't as immersive as you think they are. The sphere is very immersive, but it is not as tactile as Meow Wolf's Omega mart.” – Phillip[00:21:15 ] “I step into that Waymo and I get, you know, a technology rush. It feels like, finally. Oh, finally. It's here. All the things that we've all dreamed of. And I think it's because the imagination has already moved on.” – Brian[00:33:30 ] "Sylvia Brown herself came in, so this brought a lot of coverage to the story…they did this whole televised seance moment, and she discovered that the ghost's name is Johnny Johnson." – Sarah[00:34:15] "What a weird fate for him. You know? First of all, tragic death. Second of all, like, a toy store gets built over, like, this beautiful ranch where he was supposed to live this life, and then he gets to haunt toys." – BrianAssociated Links:Check out Future Commerce on YouTubeCheck out Future Commerce+ for exclusive content and save on merch and printSubscribe to Insiders and The Senses to read more about what we are witnessing in the commerce worldListen to our other episodes of Future CommerceHave any questions or comments about the show?
