I'm diving head-first into something totally different, and much deeper, with my guest and friend Ryan Riley. We've all heard the classic advice: get your hormones and thyroid balanced, clean up your diet, ditch the toxins. But what about those stubborn health plateaus that just won't budge, no matter how “optimized” your labs look? That's exactly why I brought Ryan and his transformative 60-Day More Health, More Life, More YOU Challenge to you. We break down why true healing, lasting, body-wide, glow-up level healing, can't just be a surface job. Ryan shares his own journey from tech-world burnout and unhealthy habits to thriving health, empowered relationships, and a level of energy most 50-somethings only dream about. And he's not a doctor or a coach... just someone who's been through “the real stuff” and built an actionable blueprint for the rest of us. Tune in for tons of ah-ha moments, some seriously moving transformation stories, and why cracking the code to health sometimes means unpacking emotional roadblocks, not just your supplement cupboard. We go deep on how this 60-day challenge isn't about quick fixes, but how it's about going “below the surface” to finally become MORE of yourself. Plus, if you're curious about stem cells and what they really mean for aging, healing, and bouncing back from surgery, Ryan explains the science and his incredible real-life success stories. Ready for a mind-body reset that's personal, practical, and maybe a little bit spiritual? Hit play. This episode is your next step towards whole-body vitality and a more powerful YOU. Can we truly understand the challenging biblical teachings of Jesus, especially when he speaks about "hating" one's family? Join Pastor Steve Gray and his wife Kathy as they unpack this provocative statement, revealing its true meaning and implications for modern discipleship. As we venture into this misunderstood territory, you'll gain insight into how the original context of scripture shapes our understanding today, transforming how we live out our faith in a world often focused on comfort and tradition. This episode of More Faith, More Life is a profound exploration of the radical commitment required for true discipleship, contrasting it with the status quo often encouraged by society and family. We dissect how cultural pressures, both in ancient times and today, can interfere with spiritual growth and why prioritizing Jesus' teachings over traditional values is necessary for genuine transformation. Through personal anecdotes and historical comparisons, Steve and Kathy provide a compelling narrative that invites you to reconsider what it truly means to be a disciple beyond merely being a good person.Key Takeaways:Understand the cultural and biblical context of Jesus' teaching on hating one's family for the sake of discipleship.Discipleship in Christianity involves transformation, not just being a better or more moral individual.Reject the societal and familial messages that advocate complacency in spiritual growth.True discipleship demands a shift from focusing on self-improvement to embracing spiritual discipline.Carrying one's cross signifies a willingness to die to self and follow Jesus wholeheartedly.Looking for more? She reveals how her journey through nonprofits, tech, and philanthropy is deeply intertwined with her identity as a woman and follower of Christ. With bold inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr., Hairston challenges leaders to rise above cultural norms, embrace their full potential, and build a "Beloved Community" rooted in love and justice. She urges listeners to lead with curiosity, courage, and conviction, offering a vision of leadership that transforms not only workplaces but entire communities through faith and service. On whole-life integration: “That leads to lots of different ways we have to see ourselves in lots of different contexts. When our relationship to our children and our family is different, with the way we keep and care for our community can sometimes be different, when a lot of things become different about how we show up in environments because we are women. But it's always mediated through this question of ‘Who has God called me to be and how does that lead me to show up in this space?'” On leading with curiosity: “Women have a powerful ability to lead with curiosity. And that [saying] ‘tell me more' is I think a bit of a superpower in what women can bring to a conversation. Leading with curiosity and courage. Because it's not always, it doens't always feel safe to be curious in a context where you're supposed to know. So I think that's an unique encouragement to any leader but a very unique encouragement to women to use that superpower of curiosity.” Hear more from Romanita Hairston at Women, Work & Calling Annual Event Friday, November 1, 2024 where she will be our keynote speaker! Hey friends! Welcome to Girls' Night! I'm so excited about today's episode. Today we're talking about how to get on the same page about household responsibilities with your spouse. Question for you –  Do you and your spouse (or partner or roommate) ever have a hard time figuring out who is responsible for managing certain household tasks? This could apply to chores, paying bills, or making meals. Okay, another question for you –  Are you frustrated because the majority of household tasks always seem to fall on you?  Friends, I've lived in that tension before, but, today's guest (and her book) changed everything for me and my relationships in general!  Our guest for today's episode is my new friend, Eve Rodsky. Eve is an expert on the gender division of labor. She wrote one of my favorite books called, Fair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much to Do (and More Life to Live). In it, she discusses the issue of unequal labor in the home, why this is hurting our relationships, and what we can do to fix it.  One of my favorite parts of the episode is when she explains the concept of being the “She Fault” and why so much of the domestic work falls in the hands of women. More about that soon!  Friends, whether you're married, engaged, single, or dating, I know there's something for you in this episode!  Okay, one more quick thing before we dive in – I wanted to let you know that there are a handful of cuss words in this episode, so if you're listening with tiny ears around that repeat everything like my girls do, maybe put some headphones in for this conversation!  Alright, let's jump into my conversation with Eve! Have you ever stopped to consider the real intentions behind spiritual teachings, and whether they align with the core truths of Christianity? This episode of More Faith, More Life challenges us to apply the biblical instruction of 'testing the spirits' to our modern religious landscape. We delve into 1 John chapter 4 to confront the essential truth that discerning the nature of Jesus Christ is about examining the doctrines of people, not just supernatural entities. By revisiting historical debates and the significance of Jesus being both fully human and divine, we set the stage to rethink our theology and its profound impact on our relationship with Him. Key Takeaways:John encourages believers to test the spirits and discern whether they come from God by examining the teachings and representations of Jesus to ensure they align with the biblical truth. The spirit of Antichrist is not limited to a specific person but refers to a theology or teaching that opposes or distorts the true nature of Jesus. It seeks to enthroned humanity instead of Christ and diminishes His divinity. To experience the power and freedom of God, it is crucial to give Jesus the highest position in our lives. He is both fully human and fully God, and acknowledging and serving Him as such is essential for true transformation. Steve cautions against a form of religion that focuses solely on soothing individuals' hurts and needs without leading to genuine change. It is important to move beyond psychological comfort and embrace the transformative power of the Gospel. The mark of the beast, often associated with the Antichrist, symbolizes the enthronement of humanity instead of Christ. It represents a self-centered approach to life that opposes the lordship of Jesus.Looking for more? I love each and every guest we've had on this show, but I'm just gonna say it: for me at least, this episode is probably the most important and relevant one we've done yet. Today we have Eve Rodsky, the Harvard-trained author of Fair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much to Do (and More Life to Live).I personally credit Eve's ideas – and the playing cards that help you implement them – with making the “invisible work” of running my own household visible, and equitably dividing that work with my husband. As you'll hear today, Eve embarked on this journey to find answers to her own problem. After becoming a mom of two, she watched as she became the default doer of the things, all while feeling sidelined in her career and “abandoned” by her husband (whom she still loved). In other words, her “Sh*t I Do” list grew longer and longer without any real discussion of who should actually do what.Fair Play is the antidote to that problem, and this episode breaks down the method in detail. You'll come away equipped to start a conversation with your partner; identify and fairly divide responsibilities; create space for yourself; and ultimately live a happier, healthier life.Eve and I also get into:* Why household labor tends to be so unequal* Men over-reporting and women under-reporting their contributions* How to raise this topic with your partner* What Fair Play looks like in action in my own marriage* “He's the income earner. So shouldn't I handle everything in the home?”* Understanding the different types of labor (daily grind vs. on your own time)* Hard-to-define responsibilities like spirituality and “magic” (tooth fairy, etc.)* Why it's so important to own a task completely* Eve's key to staying happy even as you shoulder more responsibility in lifeLinks: * Fair Play book* Fair Play cards* Fair Play documentary* Eve's second book, Find Your Unicorn Space* Eve's podcast with Dr. Aditi NerurkarSubscribe to my weekly recipe newsletter here: https://whattocook.substack.com Get full access to What To Cook When You Don't Feel Like Cooking at whattocook.substack.com/subscribe
