What do Black Dandies and Björk have in common? Well, a lot actually. Daring to be different and referencing one's culture in experimental ways has made it so both the stylish men and the musician are in conversation as brilliant examples of living artfully. Better late than never (which should maybe be the title of my memoir?) we're also breaking down the best of the best Met Gala fashion moments. And I take you behind the scenes on some career highlights of the past (Andre Leon Talley and a lotta Manolo's) and present (covering our Icelandic Queen's new Björk Cornucopia film premiere for Monocle). What fun. What fashion. What aesthetic bliss. What thought-provoking fashion. Come along.

Introduction In this post, I present what I believe to be an important yet underexplored argument that fundamentally challenges the promise of cultivated meat. In essence, there are compelling reasons to conclude that cultivated meat will not replace conventional meat, but will instead primarily compete with other alternative proteins that offer superior environmental and ethical benefits. Moreover, research into and promotion of cultivated meat may potentially result in a net negative impact. Beyond critique, I try to offer constructive recommendations for the EA movement. While I've kept this post concise, I'm more than willing to elaborate on any specific point upon request. From industry to academia: my cultivated meat journey I'm currently in my fourth year (and hopefully final one!) of my PhD. This week, to celebrate the 100th episode of My Weekly Mixtape, I am creating The Ultimate Mixtape by asking 65 different people (previous My Weekly Mixtape guests, friends of the show & the amazing Patreon Mixtapers) the same question: If you had to choose one song for the ultimate mixtape (any song / any genre), that would be locked away in a time capsule for others to discover years or decades for now…which song would you choose and why? Now, I'm not lost on the fact that the question is just a spin on the “desert island song” question that a lot of my guests have been asked countless times. The twist for the next few episodes is: I am taking those 65 song choices (all of which are from various bands, artists, decades, genres and tempos), and curating them into what I hope will be a properly sequenced playlist from a musical perspective! At the very least? This was a fun & unique twist on a question as old as interviews themselves. But at its best? Congratulations, you're listening to The Ultimate Mixtape!! This ep. includes the final 25 responses! Be sure to also check out Volume's 1 & 2 to get the full experience! Guests appearing in Vol. 3 (in no particular order): Guy Fletcher of Dire Straits, Joe Bonamassa, Desmond Child, Ed Toth of The Doobie Brothers, Walter Trout, Todd Park Mohr of Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Nick Niespodziani & Peter Olson of Yacht Rock Revue, Billy Sheehan of Mr. Big, Kevin “Sonny” Gullage, Emily Wolfe, Jax Hollow, Sean Faust, Wolfgang Valbrun, Carrie Cunningham, Jesse Jackson of Set Lusting Bruce, Eric Senich of the Van Halen News Desk / Booked on Rock Podcast, Jessica Ann Catena of Music Notes With Jess, Bobby Schultz of Effin' Cultured, Mac Wolf of The Ugly American Werewolf In London Rock Podcast, Jason Whissell of It's Not That Bad & There Can Only Be One Podcasts, friends of the show Jimmy Mitchell & Bob Spear, two more incredible Patreon Mixtapers: David Lee Smith & Philip Bergman, and last (but certainly not least!) a guest appearance from Paul Williams! Sarah Harrelson, founder and editor-in-chief of CULTURED magazine, joins us to discuss what it means to engage the culture rather than simply cover it. From her early training as a competitive equestrian to her unexpected pivot from politics to publishing, Harrelson shares how discipline, curiosity, and an eye for the underdog have informed her editorial approach. We talk about the magazine's evolution—from its roots in print to its growing influence across art, fashion, and design—and why events were always central to the brand's DNA. She reflects on building access without elitism, maintaining integrity in a metrics-driven world, and what feels truly contemporary now. “People think I'm very social, but I'm actually most comfortable standing quietly in a room, observing. That's how I learned—watching how people move, how power shifts, how conversations unfold. I think that shaped my sense of how to tell stories.” - Sarah Harrelson Episode Highlights: The Discipline of Beauty - Sarah's early life as a competitive equestrian instilled a love of visual precision, self-discipline, and independence—elements that continue to shape her editorial eye. From Politics to Publishing - With a college focus on the politics of poverty, Sarah originally envisioned a career in public service. That political awareness now informs her coverage of art, fashion, and the underdog stories that drive CULTURED. Shyness as Superpower - Once a shy child, Sarah reveals how observing from the sidelines helped her understand power dynamics, refine her instincts, and eventually find her editorial voice. Why She Built CULTURED Around Events - Events have been a core pillar of CULTURED since its inception—intimate, thoughtful gatherings that bring creative disciplines together and foster unexpected connections. The Anti-Algorithmic Editorial Approach - Sarah is unapologetic about choosing stories based on meaning rather than metrics, spotlighting talent before the industry catches on—even if it means fewer clicks. The Art of Cross-Pollination - Long before it became standard, Sarah was curating spaces where fashion designers, artists, architects, and tech figures could genuinely connect—not network, but engage. Rejecting Editorial Rigidity - In response to legacy media's narrow guidelines, Sarah launched CULTURED with a rebellious spirit—including two blank pages in the first issue to make a statement about creative freedom. The Power of Staying Grounded - With three kids and a close-knit personal circle, Sarah prioritizes time, presence, and humility. “I don't like cliques,” she says. “I'm interested in being inclusive.” Cultured VIP & Democratizing Access - Through the CULTURED VIP program, she's opening doors to readers who don't always have access—offering things like museum tours, studio visits, and meaningful cultural experiences. What's Contemporary Now? - For Sarah, contemporaneity isn't about what's trending—it's about authenticity, curiosity, and kindness. A genuine lens, she says, is the most powerful tool any cultural voice can have. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Natasha Trenev, Developmental Scientist, Author, Educator and Speaker. Founder & President of Natren Inc. Probiotic pioneer, Natasha Trenev, has significantly contributed to the evolution of the probiotics industry. Prior to her work in the field, consumers had very limited knowledge of the supplement and its many benefits. Natasha's extensive experience and knowledge of the industry began with her family's 750-year history producing the most beneficial yogurt prized by the royal family of Yugoslavia. After graduating from UCLA in 1970, a decade of research led to Natasha's development of the first revolutionary method of producing an effective and scientifically validated single strain probiotic bacteria product. Her efforts helped to establish the entire probiotics category in the world! https://www.natren.com/ Where it all Began: 1940 – My father was appointed the Official Court Supplier of Cultured dairy products by King Peter II of Yugoslavia. Early 1960's – My father started a yogurt business, intent on producing the best natural probiotic yogurt in America. My family introduced natural Bulgarian style yogurt and liquid acidophilus to the American health food industry. 1970 – Natasha was the first to arrange refrigerated sections in health food stores to sell her family's Continental Yogurt. The “MOTHER OF PROBIOTICS” Early 1980's – Natasha Trenev introduced the term “probiotic” (which means “for life”) to the health food industry. Talk about a power move: Kim Kardashian's brand new deal with Nike is unprecedented and has the potential to really move the needle for both behemoths. We dig into the nitty gritty of what it entails, while looking at the activewear space as a whole. And while I take your questions, I also have a very important one for you. What do you wear to move? From workouts to plane rides to grocery runs, what comfy/stretchy/cozy labels are getting it right (or wrong) right now? I certainly have strong opinions on the matter. Speaking of close knit relationships, we also look at Burberry's latest love affair.
