Downtown Pensacola's busiest street is Palafox Street. On that street is one of Pensacola's historic buildings turned into premier wedding venues 5eleven Palafox. Josh recently had the opportunity to be a part of the wedding event team there, and invited Gracey McDonald, Event Sales Specialist at 5eleven Palafox, to be a guest on the podcast. She graciously (pun intended) accepted. They discussed both how Gracey came to be at 5eleven and how 5eleven came to be what it is today after being built in the 1800s. She shared 5eleven's goal for every couple who chooses to be a part of their big day as well as the common questions that couples usually have before they decide 5eleven is the right venue for their wedding. Music is at the very core of any wedding. It sets the tone and creates the vibe for the night. Whether you're at your big day, planning for it, or just thinking about it in the future, one thing we all aspire for is finding authentic and lasting love. Sometimes there is a fear with couples that are considering hiring a wedding coordinator. As a bride, you may worry that once you hire a coordinator, you won't get to DO #allthethings that are the fun parts of the wedding planning process: picking out all the pretty design elements, putting together the invitations, all the Pinterest-type things. Jillian McCarthy from Jillian Rose Events understands that. She's planning her own wedding right now!DJ Josh sat down with her and she took the opportunity to share why she'd start a wedding planning company in the middle of a pandemic, how she's been able to navigate planning her own wedding during the same pandemic, as well as the differences between New England, Midwest, and Emerald Coast weddings. It's the beginning of 2021! As most of you probably know, the holidays are also engagement season and that means that this is the time of year when wedding planning begins in full force. Charcuterie is a new trend as a unique experience in its own right. But have you considered incorporating it as part of your wedding? Whether it's part of your Rehearsal Dinner, preparing for the big day, or even having it as part of the Reception, charcuterie is a great accent for any occasion. Fortunately, the co-owner of The Blue Magnolia, Nathalie Barreto, sat down and shared with me how her and her father, George, started their company during the COVID-19 quarantine period. On today's episode, you may recognize my guest from Episode 7 when we talked about how to find the right wedding coordination for your big day. (If you haven't checked it out, yet, you should ;) ). However, we aren't talking about wedding coordination today but a unique concept to the Emerald Coast: micro-weddings. Since Avis Glenister is what I like to call a serial wedding entrepreneur, it didn't surprise me that she would create a new wedding concept for the Emerald Coast while we were on quarantine. As she was looking for a way to accommodate couples who wanted to strip down the wedding planning process and focus on what's important while also partnering with her favorite wedding pros and, Intimate Weddings 30A was born. It also allows couples to lower what they will have to budget since the cost for the wedding professionals and the venue is spread throughout the day. (You won't have to rent the venue for the day. Only your time!)Want more info? Head on over to her website. Full disclosure: I am a member of the Intimate Weddings 30A collective of wedding professionals. So, I'll be honest. When I was in the wedding planning process, flowers weren't really a big deal to me. What can I say? I was the typical groom. But, ladies, I understand. Especially if photographs are a big priority to you, flowers mean EVERYTHING!Well, fortunately for me, I got to be schooled on all things florals by Kerrie Brogdon from KB Farms Cut Flowers. Social Media is a wonderful thing. It brings people together from all around the world. It also allows you to "meet" people in your local area that you never came across before, especially those in your industry! This is the case for this episode with Mallory Archer, the owner of Relax and Eat Cake. I haven't met her in person but we have Insta-met, so that counts for something! As you can imagine, Mallory is a wedding and private event cake baker. Since I don't often get a chance to chat with cake bakers on the day of the wedding, I was interested in finding out more about her world: what all baking a cake entails, the most elaborate cake she's ever created, and how she can manage to have an at-home business all while homeschooling 4 kids. She also shared her unique experience with natural disasters, overcoming both Hurricane Michael and adapting to the current challenge of COVID-19.Make sure to click that subscribe button. When you think of having a destination wedding on Florida's Emerald Coast, you probably envision your venue on the beach overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. If that's the case, you need to check out Vue on 30A. With its floor to ceiling windows and how far it sits above the beach, this is a wedding to definitely consider. This week, I got the chance to chat with Anna Parish, Vue's Private Event Director. I've had the pleasure of working with her several times but it was so nice to just chat with her about why couples LOVE Vue on 30A. From the view to the food to its amazing staff, it makes it a wedding venue to consider for your 30A wedding.Make sure to click that subscribe button. Some of the guests on Make Your Wedding a Highlight, I've had the pleasure of being a part of an event team with. Some I haven't, yet, but hope to soon. This week's guest was Heather Archdeacon-Willams, the owner of Defining Moments Weddings & Events. She also happened to be the wedding coordinator for the best wedding I've ever been to: my own :). I haven't been able to be a part of an event team with her yet just because our schedules never quite lined up but I was so excited that I got to chat with her (as well as gush about her to her). The conversation included Disney magic, Heather's wanderlust. But, drawing from her 15 years of wedding planning experience in the 30A area, Heather shares insight on where to focus first so that way you avoid heartache or difficult decisions later on in the wedding planning process.Make sure to click that subscribe button. Today's episode features Jamie Cooper from Fancy Events. With over 10 years of wedding planning experience, she knows a thing or two about what couples need to keep in mind. Additionally, she also has been a part of the wedding event team for numerous destination weddings, so I thought that would be a great topic for us to talk about. We also chatted about what excites her about being part of a couple's wedding event team, the role a coordinator plays on that team, how she has adapted to COVID-19, what super hero she would be, and where her happy place is.Make sure to click that subscribe button. Know what's one of the cooler things of being a part of the wedding industry? According to makeup artist Hayley from Gulf Coast Glam House, it's getting to be a part of STYLED SHOOTS! Hayley shares about how styled shoots are not just beneficial for brides who are wedding planning. They're also great for the wedding professionals that play a role in making each styled shoot come to life. As you've been listening to the podcast (and if you haven't, you should ;) ), you may have noticed a trend with some of the small business owners. Both Nicole W. Clark and this week's guest, Dannon Hooks, started their businesses because they noticed a void in the market for something they wanted to incorporate in their own wedding. To find out more about Dannon's journey to owning her own business, what Tap the Coast has in store, as well as how her and her husband Christopher met, give this episode a listen! I came across Nicole W. Clark's Instagram as I was looking through the Search section of Instagram. You HAVE to check it out. Her cake toppers are the CUTEST, most social media things I have EVER seen. Anyway, this conversation was one I particularly enjoyed it because Nicole's passions mirror my own: weddings and business. In addition to sharing her journey of how she found her GOOD idea making custom cake toppers, she also offers some encouraging words for prospective entrepreneurs who are debating on whether or not to start their own business. (Spoiler alert: She emphatically recommends going for it) As we weave back and forth between the aforementioned topics, we both shared how we got to where we are, and what I loved about this episode is Nicole engaged ME with questions :). You'll also get to learn her favorite cake and not-so-favorite non-cake dessert as well as what her motivation was behind finding the business that she has been working at for FOURTEEN years! This Highlight Weddings & Events Podcast was edited and produced by DropHouse Voiceover Production Studio and Tony Tee Neto, Voiceover Artist & Audio Producer. I'll admit. Before I met Chris, I never knew what letterpress printing was. So, I'm glad I was able to have him come on the podcast and drop some knowledge! Chris Tipton from Fresh Impressions Letterpress Studio pulls back the curtain on a printing process that utilizes antique equipment to create what most people would associate with wedding stationery. We got to chat on what he enjoys about the design process, how much time you should budget for letterpress printing for your wedding invitations, as well as what the coolest invitation design Chris has ever created! This week, I chatted with Avis Glenister, the owner of Peach & Pearl Events, the owner of Carillon Weddings and Events, and the founder of 30A Wedding Co. I've had the pleasure of being a part of several weddings with Avis as the coordinator, and she is even more of a delight to work with than she sounds with her charming Southern accent. We got to talk about how she arrived here from Georgia, the different levels of wedding coordination, how to properly budget for your wedding, as well as how important expectations are when getting ready for the biggest day of your life. Up until last year, a coffee bar at a wedding reception was a foreign concept to me. Fortunately, Coastal Coffee Bar Co. provides everything you need to give the bridal party and your guests that caffeine boost to keep the party going long into the night!Co-owned by Donavan and Kasey Perry, the Coastal Coffee Bar Company has been something in the making for awhile between their experience owning a Photobooth company and Kasey's experience as a director of a Chamber of Commerce. For having this conversation a couple of months ago, the release of this specific podcast now is extremely timely. Couples are rethinking what their wedding looks like as COVID-19 is still a pandemic, and elopement is becoming one of those options couples might not have considered only six months ago.Eloping oftentimes has a negative connotation. Either people see it as a couple missing out on what should be the biggest celebration of their love or it's perceived as being a secretive affair. Neither are true when you elope at The Pearl RB!I got to chat with Madison Smiedendorf and she shared how, even with an intimate and quiet affair, it can be just as perfect a celebration of a new couple as your traditional wedding with hundreds of guests in attendance.Additionally, we chatted about her experience in the wedding industry, why she has a "Mary Poppins" bag, and how planning her own October 2020 wedding has helped her better relate to and understand present and future clients. This Highlight Weddings & Events Podcast was edited and produced by DropHouse Voiceover Production Studio and Tony Tee Neto, Voiceover Artist & Audio Producer. I've always enjoyed catching up with wedding professionals that I've been a part of the wedding event team with outside of the event space. This was the case when I got the chance to interview Tim Sewell from Phocus Photography. We talked about how the better you get to know the couple, the better you will be able to create their one-of-a-kind wedding experience. Speaking of the couple, Phocus Photography’s ideal client is a couple who is mad, crazy in love that values the memories they will have from their wedding for years to come. With a style that ranges from high-fashion to intimate, candid shots, Tim & Audrey's focus is how to tell each couple’s story authentically. We also touched on COVID-19's impact as well as questions that allow you, the listener, to get to know Tim a little bit better! Barn wedding venues have surged in popularity over the last five years. At first glance, you'd think The Majestic Oaks would be just another addition to that category. But, Karen Hornsby, co-owner of The Majestic Oaks, shared the deliberate process her and her staff went through to make it more than just another barn wedding venue. Instead, the different design and functional features available at the venue open up the "paintbrushes of the mind" for couples to really make their wedding day their own. We also chatted about Karen's passion for music and the potential that the future holds for Majestic Oaks. In the wedding planning process, couples are often faced with the dilemma of whether or not to hire a wedding videographer. DJ Josh chats with Cali Hlavac (Kay-Lee Lav-atch) from Silver Shade Studios, a wedding videography company based on the Emerald Coast of Florida. We chat about how she started out in the wedding industry, her videography style, why we think you should strongly consider having a videographer on your wedding event team, as well as her massive shoe collection and what her golf handicap is! Here's a little about Cali... Cali Hlavac is in LOVE with weddings. More importantly, she's in love with capturing all the happiness and love that are present on the wedding day. The only things left after a wedding day is over are the photos and videos, plus a worn-out wedding dress. Cali loves giving couples the fantastic memories that make up their wedding day: the voices, the tears, the joy, the family, and, most importantly, the story of you as a couple.
