No matter how you slice it, wedding photography is a fancy business. On this week's podcast, we take that fancy up a notch in a conversation about luxury wedding photography with James Christianson and Otto Schulze. These former competitors took a giant leap to reinvent themselves as the collaborative partnership James x Schulze, while also adapting their sales strategy to a marketplace where the driving force is want rather than means. Listen in as they describe how they balanced economic risk with the creative freedom to chase small moments and beautiful light. You'll also gain insight into how a luxury client's buying psychology differs from the norm, and the essential importance of taking a client-first approach to projects. “Confidence is the currency of the successful,” explains Christianson about the necessary shift in mindset. “If you can bring confidence in who you are and what your skills are—whether that's with a camera, or skills with people, or both—that will take you a long way in being able to move through any room.” Guests: James Christianson and Otto Schulze Top shot © James x Schulze Episode Timeline 2:55: The logistics of and locations for the luxury wedding photography market. 6:38: Balancing the economics of a collaborative business with the creative freedom and flow of chasing small moments and beautiful light. 10:42: Shaking the middle-class sales mentality and adapting to the buying psychology of luxury clients. 14:45: Put your client first by asking open-ended questions and taking a genuine interest in connecting to best identify their wants. 17:56: The logistics of working with wedding planners in the high-end photography market. 21:40: Destination weddings in a post-COVID world, and the luxury client as a recession proof market for wedding photography. 26:10: James X Shulze's go-to camera gear—from the medium format FUJIFILM GFX to the Leica Q—yet always being mindful of the special atmosphere of the venue. 31:27: Episode break 32:32: Introducing James X Schulze's education brand Sage. Tap into the mindset and confidence needed to cultivate luxury wedding photography clients. 37:14: Distinguishing between premium and luxury wedding clients, and the relative budgets for each 40:10: Develop the story the client wants to tell with their wedding, rather than approaching the wedding as just a photo shoot. 45:14: James and Otto's approach to education involves more than great photographs. Equally important is being a better business owner, and consistency in putting in the work. Guest Bios: James Christianson started his career as an educator and entrepreneur. He has more than 20 years of photography experience under his belt combined with a business and education background that brings a distinctively clear voice to his work. Otto Schulze traveled the globe as a documentary photographer, spending the past 20 years in pursuit of the “decisive moment.” His ability to see outside the box makes him an inspirational and visionary imagemaker and educator. Working together, James x Schulze have achieved world-class brand recognition as luxury wedding photographers, combining editorial, documentary, and fine-art styles. Named as one of the world's top 50 wedding photographers by Harpers Bazaar, they are hyper-focused on communicating each client's unique story through a final portfolio of unparalleled images. Most recently, they launched the online education platform Sage, and the online course “The Business of Luxury Weddings” to inspire other wedding professionals seeking to take their business to the next level. Brittany Branson is a live painter and brings her artistry to events all over the world. Painting beautiful weddings and celebrations for her clients since 2014, Brittany has an impressionistic style and creates these one-of-a-kind, personalized art pieces as the events are taking place. Brittany is joined by host, Jennifer Stein as they talk about what it's like to have a live painter at a wedding, Brittany's favorite destination to paint in and one of her most shocking moments she's ever experienced at a wedding. This helpful conversation gives insight and practical advice on bringing in a live entertainment element as well as the not so sexy (but really important) part of the process - shipping, costs and logistics. More about Brittany Branson: Having painted over 150 meaningful celebrations, Brittany pays careful attention to the composition of every art piece, to present the picture even more beautifully than you remember. Your painting will hang on your walls forever, so it's essential you love every element of it. She will start by listening to your vision and translate it through her impressionist-inspired style. Embracing vibrant colors and strokes to highlight naturally beautiful elements. And, rather than painting every detail exactly as it is, she pulls out the most beautiful features that enhance both your painting and memory of your day. From the engagement ring to your wedding bands, choosing your wedding rings come with a lot of pressure. After all, the ring on your finger is the most obvious symbol of your marriage. With engagement season just around the corner, what better time to chat about all things wedding rings – from choosing (or making!) one, to how to propose with one. Today we are joined by Allison Ullmer the founder of RINGED to talk about all things engagement and wedding rings. Allison is a 20+-year jeweler, devoted fine artist, and experienced metalsmithing professor, who believes everyone should have access to amazing, personal jewelry design. Allison has created her business around two convictions: She loudly and exuberantly celebrates all love and all bodies and that neither jewelry nor style have a gender. She believes that wedding rings are more than objects; they are a sign of a long and happy marriage filled with meaningful experiences. Backyards of Key West Podcast with Mark Baratto
This is a recap episode of my very first episode here in Key West talking about Fantasy Fest. I wanted to release this episode for the last weekend of Fantasy Fest, so you all could learn more about this week long party that happens every year in Key West! In our first episode, Mark Baratto speaks with Nadene Grossman Orr who handles all of the planning for Fantasy Fest, the Annual Key West Songwriters Festival, and many more events through her company We've Got The Keys. We go deep into why she moved to Key West and what she loves about living and working here, and some of her favorite spots in town to eat drink and be merry. MORE ON NADENE Nadene arrived in Key West Florida in 1991 just after Graduation from SUNY Geneseo. Looking back on her introduction to Island Life – she established a strong foundation with the best Key West jobs … Cocktail Server, Crew on the Catamarans, and Concierge! The 3 C's! She learned the Island inside and out and made lasting friendships that grew into the professional relationships she has today with so many local business owners and industry professionals. So in love with the Island Lifestyle - Nadene turned her passion into Business in 2004 - establishing We've Got the Keys - Wedding & Event Planners for the Florida Keys. We Coordinated nearly 800 Destination Weddings up until December 2015 when we changed our focus to Corporate Events, Destination Management and Producing City-Wide Festivals & Events. With an eye for detail, Nadene's focus is on designing creative Incentive Travel programs for our corporate clients, introducing visitors to uniquely Key West experiences, customized tours, one of a kind adventures and culinary delights – Nadene & her Team challenge themselves daily to delight, impress and inspire our guests! Nadene is thrilled to be a producer for the Annual Key West Songwriters Festival – founded in 1994 - this event is the largest of its kind - bringing more than 175 Performing Singer-Songwriters to Key West each year to perform their original music on Key West's intimate stages - including beaches, bars, theaters and boats! One of the founding producers of the Annual Key West Film Festival, Nadene and her team at We've got the Keys helped to establish this new festival for Key West – founded in 2012 we worked with the Film Festival for its first Three Years. With a deep sense of Community involvement – Supporting local events and non-profit organizations over the years has been an integral part of our work. In November 2015 Nadene proudly accepted the role of Event Director for AIDS Help Inc. – coordinating their annual local events, including Taste of Key West, Vintners Dinner, Tree of Hope, & The Coronation for King & Queen of Fantasy Fest. January 2017 Nadene was selected to become the new Director of FANTASY FEST! The We've got the Keys Team took on their Biggest EVENT to date! Fantasy Fest is one of Key West's largest and most iconic Festivals – originating in 1979 – this Festival is world-famous. Proudly partnering with Wonderdog Studios and expanding our Event Staff to take Fantasy Fest into the Future and Beyond! After a beautiful visit to our neighbors down south, Deb & Kev are spending this Thursday talking about;Deb dealing with the fallout of an angry son and forever enticing our listening audience to invite her to a destination wedding while trying to solve internet math problems. Kev is so mad at his dad, Uncle Sam, but mostly himself, while wondering why he didn't gain 50 lbs in Mexico and thinking that something smelled fishy with GBBO last week.As always, special thanks to Lauren Taylor for the episode art work and Gwyneth Galvin and BenSound www.bensound.com for providing the voiceover and music for the intro and outro!
Destination weddings are the perfect mix of business and pleasure. Not only are they often fun to do, but they can be very lucrative as well. The markets in Mexico, Caribbean, Hawaii, and Europe are sizable - and getting bigger. But how do you tap into them? In this week's episode of Own Your Business, I talk with Destination I Do founder and editor, Jennifer Stein, to share insights and perspectives that will: - Get you more inquiries from destination clients - Build content to attract couples in locations you want to work - Show you who to reach out to for referrals - Give insights into a post-pandemic destination wedding market
Alston, Tim, and Cristina invite Melissa O'Hara, National Manager of Dive Sales for Sandals and Beaches Resorts onto the show. They take a "deep dive" into the PADI SCUBA Certifications you can get on your next all-inclusive vacation!Follow the hosts on Instagram @TravelmationPodcast
In this quick solo episode, I give some tips and ideas of events you can host during your long weekend to entertain your guests (and yourselves!). Having a destination wedding means the guest list is much smaller and more intimate so you may have some leeway with your budget to be able to host a few extra events that you wouldn't usually if local. Let me know of any other ideas of events you have been to or are planning to have. Link to WOVE Link to Revelry www.leonamorelock.com www.instagram.com/leonamorelock www.pinterest.com/leonamorelock

The Junkies wrap up the Winona Ryder 101 lessons with 2018's Destination Wedding, which may or may not be an actual movie. Winona teams up with Keanu Reeves (who may or may not be her actual husband) for the fourth time in this awkward and talky film oddity. While not the worst Winona movie they've had to watch (that would be Autumn in New York), Destination Wedding was still challenging for Nicole, who needed a break from the constant chatter, and Hayley, who felt the sex scene in this movie went too far in the wrong direction in trying not to be overly romantic. Shauna liked the film (not the sex scene) just fine, though. The Junkies talk about attending (or having) a destination wedding, weird family dynamics, and wonder how Winona could simultaneously be awesome in Stranger Things and so very, well, strange in this movie.Links: Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pop-culture-junkie/id1536737728 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7k2pUxzNDBXNCHzFM7EL8W Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/popculturejunkiepodcast/Website: www.popculturejunkie.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/PopCultureJunkiePodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/PopJunkies Instagram: www.instagram.com/pop.culturejunkies Email: firstname.lastname@example.org Hayley on Instagram: www.instagram.com/thirtynerdythriving Nicole on Instagram: www.instagram.com/nicole_eldridge Nicole on Twitter: www.twitter.com/naeldridge14 Nicole on TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@nicole_eldridge Shauna on Twitter: www.twitter.com/shaunatrinidad Shauna on Instagram: www.instagram.com/shaunatrinidad Shauna on TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@shaunatrinidad

Episode SummaryWE DID IT! We made it to the last episode of season 1 and we're rounding up some great advice from former couples. As a professional photographer and wedding planner in a very popular destination wedding market, we think we know everything (KIDDING!), but for this episode, we turned to some of our real life couples to get honest feedback and advice for future couples. Episode NotesWe asked some former couples an important question: “What advice would you give to someone planning a destination wedding” and boy did they answer! We have 10 useful tips and pieces of advice from our former brides, grooms and even their family and friends. Some of these tips are obvious, and others… not as much! Tune in to the last episode of the season to hear all the great advice.Support us: patreon.com/unveilingparadiseWhat advice would you give to someone planning a destination wedding?Destination weddings will often be much smaller than a local wedding, so invite everyone you want and expect and plan for fallout. If you hire locally, you may not have the luxury of meeting them beforehand so find vendors you trust. At the same time, you can save money by hiring local vendors.Plan additional events before and after the wedding to keep the party going.Plan ahead and research local marriage requirements. You don't want any surprises!Expect to run into your guests post-wedding. PRO TIP: Start your honeymoon a little early if you don't want to tiptoe around your nosy aunt.Add little surprises for your guests to create the ultimate experience.Be aware of the currency and how it's doing against the USD. Always carry (never check) your dress. If cost is going to be an issue, set a real budget and be prepared for the wedding to cost more than you expect.Links and Musings from this Episode:Refer back to Episode 2 (smaller guest counts are better than larger guest counts)Refer back to Episode 3 (hiring a local vendor vs bringing your own)Refer back to Episode 9 (creating the perfect budget for your wedding)Find Us:Unveiling Paradise: IG @unveilingparadiseJoe: IG @josephesserTessa: IG @fredandkateeventsEmail us with your burning questions about destination weddings, what to do with an entire month off, or anything else you can think of and we'll answer them in an upcoming episode: email@example.com.***We're taking a break and will meet you back here next month!
