He also gives an update on cobia, which are present but not quite fired up yet due to fluctuating temps. What do you really know about schizophrenia? Guest host Rachel Star Withers — who lives with schizophrenia — takes us beyond the headlines and horror movies in this powerful, honest, and enlightening episode of Inside Mental Health. Joined by neuropsychologist and schizophrenia researcher Dr. Derin Cobia, Rachel explores what schizophrenia is, what it isn't, and how it silently shapes the lives of millions. They break down the real symptoms — including hallucinations, delusions, cognitive disruptions, and depression — and discuss why “positive” and “negative” symptoms are misleading terms. Rachel shares personal stories of psychosis, navigating daily life, and the lifesaving importance of support, while Dr. Cobia unpacks the science: from genetics to stigma to what the media consistently gets wrong. Whether you've never met someone with schizophrenia (spoiler: you have) or you're supporting a loved one, this episode replaces fear with empathy and misunderstanding with clarity. You'll come away informed, moved, and maybe even surprised. Key takeaways: the truth about schizophrenia's symptoms and causes why stigma is deadly — and how to dismantle it what support systems really make a difference how schizophrenia affects cognition, not just perception Hit play to get past the stereotypes and meet the human reality. Cold Open Transcript:Rachel Star Withers (guest host): I'm sure there's some listeners right now who are thinking, well, I don't have schizophrenia. No one close to me does. Why should I care? Dr. Derin Cobia: You know, schizophrenia, it indirectly affects everyone and it affects us economically, socially, and culturally. Even though somebody may not be dealing with somebody with schizophrenia, now, who's to say they won't in the future? And even if they don't, I would say just general education and awareness about it reduces this stigma. Our guest, Dr. Derin Cobia, is a neuropsychologist and neuroscientist with particular interest in utilizing neuroimaging techniques to study how changes in brain structure influence cognition and behavior. He is also a professor at Brigham Young University. Dr. Cobia's laboratory is focused on the implementation of computational anatomy tools to study neuropsychiatric diseases, particularly schizophrenia. His interests are in the clinical and biological heterogeneity that exists in schizophrenia by taking a cognitive neuroscience perspective. His work has involved linking cognitive and neurobiological characteristics to important clinical dimensions of the illness. Our guest host, Rachel Star Withers creates videos documenting her schizophrenia, ways to manage, and let others like her know they're not alone and can still live an amazing life. She has written “Lil Broken Star: Understanding Schizophrenia for Kids” and a tool for schizophrenics, “To See in the Dark: Hallucination and Delusion Journal.” Learn more at RachelStarLive.com. Captain Larry Pentel has been involved in multiple facets of the industry over the past 40+ years, giving him a unique perspective on the ins and outs of it. Not only is he one of the original fishermen to launch charters off Grayton Beach, FL but he also owned and operated his own fish market with his wife Mary, is part of the “100 lb cobia club” and is apparently so good at what he does that there are songs inspired by it. Listen as we sit down and talk about Cobia, Beach Launching, Tarpon, Fish Mongering and more!
David Cobia's church focuses on helping people establish new rhythms that lead to spiritual growth. Their gatherings are designed to help facilitate each individual's journey through encouragement and invitation. Together, David and Ralph talk about the unique initiatives that David has spearheaded and how others can jump in and benefit from the path he's blazed.
David Cobia leads a church that is a mission to the creatives in Los Angeles. Rather than finding a group of Christians to gain critical mass and start a traditional worship service, David went back to the drawing board and came up with a new form that blended digital and physical while overcoming some of the barriers that turn people away from traditional church.

In Episode 146 of The Guidepost, ASGA's Will Poston sits down with Emilie Franke of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to discuss Draft Addendum II for Atlantic Cobia. Recreational data uncertainties, shifting distribution, and structural management deficiencies are some of these issues frustrating cobia management, and what Addendum II seeks to address. Cobia from Georgia through Rhode Island are managed by the ASMFC through Amendment 1, which utilizes a quota strategy to maintain the sustainability of the stock. However, because the fishery is overwhelmingly recreational, monitoring quotas and developing new management measures can be very challenging. The Marine Recreational Informational Program (MRIP) has its flaws, and recreational catch and effort of Atlantic cobia expose all the limitations of our data collection program, which is in part what Addendum II hopes to address. Draft Addendum II considers new allocations schemes for the recreational sector, such as moving from a state-by-state scheme to regional or coastwide harvest targets, which would be better suited to utilize the recreational fishing data we have now. In addition, the addendum includes other alternatives which could give managers more tools to respond to new stock assessments and make better use of the available fisheries data. This document is open for public comment now until July 8th. Read more and develop your comment by clicking here.

SCA roundtable with Jonny Cobia, Brennon Nielson, and Steve Conaway. This is Rusty's Last show. Thank you for all the support and memories. It all has meant more than you will ever know!
Capt. Sarah Gardner has been a full time fishing guide for over 27 years. Along with her husband, Capt. Brian Horsley, they are the go to guides for fly fishing in the area surrounding Outer Banks, NC. Sarah & Brian both run 23 foot Jones Brother boats and target Cobia, Redfish, False Albacore, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, & Sharks on the fly. After getting her Bachelor's degree in Illustration from Moore College of Art in 1987, Sarah worked in advertising for several years, but she never felt comfortable working inside. To be around other like-minded people and earn extra money, she took an evening sales position at Anglers Sport Center, a big outfitter in Maryland. Shortly thereafter, out of the blue, the legendary Lefty Kreh called and would eventually take her under his wing and help her flourish into the great writer and spokesperson she is today. Years later, Lefty was the photographer at Sarah & Brian's wedding and their relationship continued until his passing a couple of years ago. Sarah is known by her peers as being a hardy, tough, badass of a human whether on the water, in the woods, or competing in Ironman races. Not only is she “fishy” on the boat but her love for teaching and educating is extremely inspiring. As people look up to Joan Wulff and Kathy Beck, many view Sarah as a role model and shining example on how hard work, dedication, and chasing your passions can lead to a extremely fulfilling life. Thanks for coming on the podcast, Sarah!
