Okay, so today we're gonna talk about - The Drama Triangle Our ultimate goal is not to avoid conflict, that's an impossible idea anyway. Have you ever met a mom whose life made your head hurt or made you feel tired? She is a single parent, who works 2 jobs, is finishing her degree in school, and has time to volunteer at church OR she's a stay-at-home mom who volunteers for every group or leads them, she exercises daily, and her house is always beautiful inside and out OR .... well, you get the picture. There is any number of other things that make you feel like- What am I doing with my life? After many failed attempts to share my experiences as a Black mom, I stopped trying. Wait! Let me be more clear. I rarely share these stories with white women. After way too many pushbacks, "what-about" questions, and straight-up dismissals, I decided for my own mental health to reserve that part of me for safer spaces. Today I offer you a peek into my world as a Black mom. I'm joined by my friend Barb Roose who also shares a few of her own stories, as we talk to the host, our friend Jill Savage. Busyness, productivity, and efficiency are words connected to speed. They can be helpful from time to time, but they should not set the standard for our daily lives. When busyness, productivity, and efficiency run your life, they run you down. It's called burnout. Break down. Hitting a wall. Most parenting advice centers on how-tos for raising our kids and building a successful family. Parenting styles are needless and burdensome attempts to guarantee that we raise our children the 'right' way when the truth is what we do as parents are important, but not nearly as important as who we become along the journey of parenting. Today, I want to share with you a new perspective on what it means to be an intentional mom. Let me share a more liberating and confidence-boosting view of motherhood as we visit on the virtual couch. Links from today's episode: Has this podcast made a difference in your life? Let's have a girlfriend chat about how the foods we eat affect not only our bodies but our quality of life. At the same time let's talk about how the commitments we put on our plates impact our ability to live intentional lives. It's time to pay more attention to not only what we eat, but also to our commitments. This is a great episode for the mom who's feeling tired and she can't figure out why. Or the overwhelmed mom who is feeling done-er than done but feels like she can't take a break. If that's you, or you can relate, join me on the virtual couch for a chat. We all have had to make do at some point in life. When there's a gap between your money and your needs, you learn how to make-do. When your main focus is survival in a tough season, you make do. But the challenge comes when we adopt a make-do mentality and those survival tactics have snow become habits. Often they are habits that hold us back instead of helping us move forward. You know that feeling — you're stressed out, your kids are screaming, and you're ready to go all Mama Bear on them. Before I became a mom I would have described myself as a patient person. But once I became a mom, I noticed a change in myself. I was more irritable, more easily stressed, and less patient. I knew I had to do something to change this. I found myself yelling at my kids for things I never used to get mad about. I found myself getting frustrated for no reason. I found myself just plain mad. Boundaries are controversial, especially when it comes to moms. Boundaries can feel like a selfish thing to have as a mom. Let's be honest, not being constantly available to your kids whenever they might need you seems wrong. In this episode of the Mentor 4 Moms Podcast with Susan Seay let's discuss the goal. What's the goal of raising our kids? When they're little...we can't wait for them to walk/talk/feed themselves. When they get a little older...we can't wait for them to make friends, start school. As they get older we look forward to other milestones like - make the team, get good grades, play an instrument, and more. But what's most important? Let's talk about that today.
