Firmy intenzívne riešia nákladové položky, ako sú energie, mzdy či odvody, ale pri obchodovaní mimo eurozóny často podceňujú riziko kurzovej straty. Práve nepriaznivý pohyb menového kurzu im pritom môže vymazať celú maržu uskutočneného cezhraničného obchodu. Patrik Biňovský, člen predstavenstva spoločnosti Akcenta v brandovanom rozhovore vysvetľuje, aké sú možnosti zabezpečiť sa proti kurzovému riziku a aké náklady to obsahuje. Viac ako polovica slovenského zahraničného obchodu sa uskutočňuje v inej mene. Až 740 miliónov eur prúdi do Českej republiky v českých korunách. Veľký podiel má aj obchod s Čínou, kde firmy realizujú transakcie v amerických dolároch. Česká koruna sa za posledné roky pohybovala v rozsahu zhruba 24 až 26 korún za euro, čo je rozpätie takmer osem percent. Pre firmu, ktorá má ročný obrat s českými partnermi 500-tisíc eur, to v praxi znamená kurzové riziko 40-tisíc eur. Podľa Biňovského sa nedá spoliehať na jednoduchú predstavu, že aj keď kurz môže kolísať, z dlhodobého hľadiska sa to vyrovná. Prax túto teóriu nepotvrdzuje. „Problém kurzového rizika je v tom, že na prvý pohľad ho nie je vidieť,“ hovorí člen predstavenstva Akcenty. Firma má pred sebou faktúru, kde je napísané, že zaplatila niečo v cudzej mene, ale finálny výsledok uvidí až na konci roka, keď spraví záverečné zúčtovanie a vyskočia kurzové rozdiely. „Väčšina firiem kurzové riziko nerieši, čo je chyba. Častokrát sa spamätajú až vtedy, keď na konci roka zistia, že kurzový rozdiel im zhltol celú maržu,“ vysvetľuje expert. Firmy to môžu riešiť rôzne. Prvým nástrojom je mať účty v zahraničných menách, v ktorých firma obchoduje. Môže tiež s bankou vyjednávať o kurze, s ktorým sa transakcia zrealizuje. A napokon existujú nástroje ako forwardy, ktorými si spoločnosť dopredu dohodne kurz, ktorý sa v budúcnosti pri platbe použije. „Ak by sme dnes urobili forward česká koruna - euro na tri mesiace, tak príplatok by bol cca sedem halierov na euro,“ približuje Biňovský. Lou, Jesse, and Karen review The Expanse Season 2, Episode 10 "Cascade," calling it another dense, solid episode with key storylines on Earth and Ganymede plus a brief Alex scene. On Earth, they discuss Errinwright   confessing to Chrisjen, her insisting he face consequences, and Cotyar's line about working for the "good guys," along with the power dynamics and whether Errinwright is rationalizing his motives. They cover Bobbie's escape, her eye-opening journey through Earth's poverty, meeting an off-med "doctor," and her beach conversation with Chrisjen before Mars retrieves her. They also highlight Alex alone on the ship in low gravity with Hank Williams playing before learning Ganymede is locked down. On Ganymede, they examine the station's failing ecosystem, Prax and Amos forcing information from a profiteering trader, Naomi's warning about crossing moral lines, and the chilling idea that Ganymede is "dead" without realizing it. The carrier has a responsibility and an ability to start asking questions." --Dale Prax of Freightvalidate Asking questions, that is, to fully "vet the brokers," noted Prax, freight fraud watcher, FMCSA's onetime "worst critic," and proprietor of FreightValidate , a vetting tool offered to both carriers and brokers and unique in that regard. H spoke to the one-sided nature of vetting that's gone on for decades now. As was the case last year during the opening, the fraud in freight markets was a big part of the discussion. It wasn't the only big theme coming out of this year's MATS. Panel moderator Brent Hutto, now working with Truck Parking Club, teed up another topic up at the very start -- the notion of AI, and what quick advancement in various forms could mean for freight relationships for owner-operators and trucking more broadly. Panelists included other voices regular readers will be familiar with, including past Small Fleet Champ Jason Cowan of Silver Creek Transportation on his own growing adoption of automation for parts of his back-office processes. Yet Cowan also underscored the importance of really working personal relationships for any owner-operator looking to grow. "I would go to people and say, 'Hey I want to haul your freight,'" he said of his early efforts to ink shipper contracts. The answer, too often, was a question barked back to him, "Well how many trucks do you have?" In those early days, shippers were looking for fleets larger than his three trucks, yet he never lost an opportunity to offer to be the pressure-release valve for any who would listen. "Hey listen," he might say, "here's my card. When somebody drops the ball, give me a call." Thus was a meager start to long-term business relationships with a myriad customers. We discuss industry demands ahead of this month's budget, Lindsey refinery job cuts, and artificial intelligence (AI) at ADIPEC. This week's episode features Energy Voice's Ryan Duff and Floyd March, while E-FWD editor Ed Reed broadcasts from the ADIPEC show floor in Abu Dhabi. First up, OEUK and Scottish Renewables teamed up this week to deliver a letter to chancellor Rachel Reeves and energy secretary Ed Miliband ahead of the budget on 26 November. The pair of trade bodies called for tax reform for oil firms, and certainty for Scottish offshore wind projects in Allocation Round 7 (AR7). Labour came into power under a strong anti-oil and gas line, however, it appears to be backtracking somewhat, leaving a little room for optimism for North Sea players. As for wind, there is a lot that needs to be done to get the country on track for its targets. AR7 will need to deliver at least 8.4 GW, but with market uncertainty, there is no guarantee that every firm that secures a strike price will bring its project to fruition. Next up, we turn our attention to ADIPEC as Ed caught up with Toby Rice, CEO of American gas firm EQT. Their conversation quickly turns to AI, a popular topic among energy firms at the moment. Toby claims that his firm is enabling US firms to go "full throttle" on AI, thanks to the gas it produces. Toby said that the question around where the power needed to support data centres would come from was what was being asked "24 months ago" as he argued renewables are "not going to cut it". Finally, Floyd gets us up to speed on all things Lindsey after over 100 workers lost their jobs last week. There are still questions to be asked around who will take over the site as a mysterious consortium bids for a public-private partnership with the government, and Phillips 66 has been rumoured to swoop in and change operations at the site. Local politicians and unions have been up in arms over recent redundancies after previous owner, Prax, fell into administration. This story is set to develop over the coming weeks.

Alex Nemiroff, General Counsel at Praxis Precision Medicines, focuses on developing life-altering treatments for pediatric patients with epilepsy, particularly those with genetic epilepsies known as Developmental Epileptic Encephalopathies- DEEs.  Praxis targets specific gene mutations SCN2A and SCN8A with therapies that precisely target the source of the disease. Lead drug candidate PRAX-562 is a precision small-molecule treatment that inhibits seizure-causing activity, and PRAX-222 is a type of RNA therapy that shows potential for complete disease modification. Alex explains, "There are a number of types of epilepsy. At Praxis, we focus on a few. We have a broader focal epilepsy program, and then we have a number of programs targeting these genetic epilepsies that are referred to as DEEs, Developmental Epileptic Encephalopathies. These are epilepsies that start in infancy, and they're tied most commonly to a mutation in a gene that is known to cause epilepsy. Specifically, we have at Praxis right now in the clinic, programs aimed at mutations in the SCN2A and SCN8A genes. So these are SCN2A DEEs and SCN8A DEEs."   "What we've tried to do, and it's been the goal of Praxis since its inception, since I got connected to this company, is to target these mutations as close to their source as possible. The name is Praxis Precision Medicines very intentionally because what we believe these medicines are doing is precisely targeting the source of the disease. Relatively speaking, as close as we can get. These are not gene therapies. What we have in our pipeline right now and in the clinic are RNA therapies, which are these antisense oligonucleotide therapies, and then also small molecules that are more precisely targeting key components of the diseases."
