OpenAI is an interesting company that has gained a lot of attention in the recent months. In those months I have been contemplating doing a podcast about it. This one is disorganized and not great overall. But, I try to show a brief overview of what the company is trying to do, how they are doing it and what I think about it all in a logical manner. I also include some example use cases for ChatGPT, which has been all the buzz on the internet lately. Some of it goes well, some of it doesn't. However, if you bear with the video, I think there is some good information in it. If you are interested in more videos about OpenAI or Artificial Intelligence in general, let me know. Virtual Reality. The visual trickery a computer can play on our eyes to trick our brains into believing we are someplace we actually are not. You have seen the videos of people following off a beam despite being right in their living room. Or people running into walls when being chased by a zombie. But, how can this be? These people are wearing a relatively heavy headset, and holding controllers in their hands. Yet, they seem to believe they are inside whatever they see on the headset. How is this possible? What even causes the ability for us to see in three-dimensions on a screen inches from our face? What is Virtual Reality? What is the Metaverse? Is Virtual Reality the future of our society and how we interact with each other? Or is it just a recent fad that will die off like bell bottom jeans? Well, the only way to find out is to start thinking logically about technology. #virtualreality #podcast #metaverse Let me know what you think I should do going forward with this podcast. Well, this podcast was a cluster. I wanted to go over technology that caused a shift in our lives throughout the different generations. I wanted to start with my Grandparents born in the late 20's and early 30's and then move on to my parents and then myself and then the younger people. However, it was a cluster trying to find a specific technology that impacted the lives of my grandparents when they were children. So, I apologize for the poor preparation and quality of the podcast. But, there will be a podcast reviewing and summarizing CES. That should be exciting. I am going to make it longer and more comprehensive than previous years. Well... The end of the year is coming quickly. I have been feeling better about making more podcasts. I hope you enjoy this one. I like reading articles and ranting about what these journalists think about tech. The future of Tech is always unpredictable. But, it's fun to think about it. I think virtual reality is definitely coming and will become something that is relatively standard in the future. Battery technology is also improving. I have been saying for a long time that we need to get away from Lithium in our batteries and move on to something else, hopefully better too. Solid state batteries also need to become the new normal. And we explore that future in this episode. It seems things are finally coming along from prototype to testing phases, versus research stages we have been in for quite some time. I hope you enjoy the podcast. I always have fun when I get to rant a little. Let me know what you think I should do going forward with this podcast. Welcome to Tech-N-Logic. We are bringing logic back to everything tech related. This week we embark down the road of artificial intelligence and other related tech news including some improvements being made in snow removal technology. Well, sort of. The news we focus on is related to the new OpenAI that has blown up the news recently with chat bots, AI art and everything else related. Will artificial intelligence make us better and provide us better information? Or will artificial intelligence be filled with our own bias and misinformation that we deal with on a day to day basis? Will AI be used for deception or improving our knowledge of the world around us? Let me know what you think of AI and it's future. I think eventually we will be in a better spot with AI, but at first it will be far too advanced for our simple minds to actually utilize properly. Welcome to Tech-N-Logic. We are bringing logic back to everything tech related. This week we embark down into the world of electric vehicles and their charging. Specifically, we look at news related to the charging stations and the network. How does it look currently? Is it a good idea to jump into the EV market now? Will charging stations ever be abundant enough to accommodate all the people that own EV's at any given time? Let's discuss these topics and much more in this episode. We bring it back to semiconductors yet again with the latest news. We discuss pricing of products a little bit. I put my two cents on everything as always. The shortage of semiconductors has been going on for years and years. Companies and governments are working to solve the issue, however it's still going to be with us for some time. We are finally back again after a 3 month summer hiatus. We are coming back with more semiconductor news. It's all the rage in the tech news arena, so we hit a few articles and come to a simple conclusion. Being reactive to things is not how to operate. Proactive planning is the way to go. Don't take things for granted. Questions to Answer: What are Semiconductors Why are Semiconductors so important? Intro: Semiconductors are bigger news than Oil Prices and UFO's at the moment. It's interesting to me, because semiconductors have been a part of our life for quite some time now. And not just once in a while, like filling your gas tank in your car. I mean every day. Every single day for the past 20-30 years. The semiconductor is the heart and sole of almost everything electronic these days. Computers, communication, military systems, transportation and anything else you can think of practically. So how is it possible that amidst all that has happened in the past, that these never made huge headlines. Well, up until now, a shortage didn't really effect the general population. It may have affected gamers or some niche group of people, but nothing really large and wide spread, aka news worthy. But, when a pandemic hits, and everyone needs electronic devices to work from home, things get interesting. And then when people are venturing out and buying new cars, things get super interesting. People bought too many things and when you can't buy cars and prices start climbing, that is big news. When automobile manufacturers have to slow and in some cases shut down production for the second time in less than a year, that's big news. So, last time I did a quick tech news segment on semiconductors. This time, let's do one of my deep dives and see where this fancy stuff came from and how we figured out to use it. Not to mention, use it in a way that has completely changed humanity as we know it. I apologize for the long wait. But, this subject has been requested for a few weeks now. Semiconductors. In particular, the shortage of semiconductors. I briefly go over what a semiconductor is from my limited comings and goings as an engineer. And then we go through a quick recap of the last year and why there is a shortage of materials. And then we dive into some articles related to the subject. There are some articles I did not get to, and will be linked below along with the others. There is a detailed article that goes a little more in depth on the history of these shortages. I hope you enjoy the content. I will do my best to keep them coming. Tech News discussion on Smart Home Technology. I accidentally deleted all the links I was using, so no references this time. I just googled Smart Home Tech and clicked on news. We learned there is a new standard coming out on more products called Thread. It's poised to replace zigbee and Z-wave as the communication standard between all smart home devices. We also went over a more cost effective company for smart home tech called Wyze. Some of their offerings are cheaper while having some of the same features of the main stay brands. This makes it easier to give a system a try without having to spend a lot of money. I am not completely sold on doing smart home security over a more traditional security system. But, I feel video doorbells and bluetooth lock tech can be useful and convenient in some scenarios. We also go over the importance of picking a good smart hub to integrate all your tech into one central hub. This makes the whole experience better for you in the end. I hope you enjoy the logical discussion about the technology. I will try to get more episodes out there more often in the future. I just Google "Wireless Charging" and click on the news section. And then I randomly pick articles to review solely based on the title. It can be a dangerous endeavor as we have seen before. This time I do a lot more talking about what I know about the wireless charging market, and discuss new technologies that are coming to market from various companies. There is always a good chance that I will include some sort of random rant, horrible jokes, and sometimes some personal bias. I encourage you to keep thinking logically about technology. This is the first episode of 2021 and I thought I should do a quick recap of CES 2021. I treated it like a tech news episode and just clicked and went through some articles which you can find linked below as references. There is so much to cover at CES it is nearly impossible to scratch even the surface of all that happens in one podcast, let alone 5 or 20 even. Keep an eye out for more tech news podcasts going forward with our goal to produce 2 episodes per month for the rest of 2021. Don't forget to check out and subscribe to the YouTube channel. The podcasts are also posted there so you can see my hideous face, but there will be product reviews posted there as well that will not be featured on this podcast. Wow. 2020. What a year. I don't even know where to begin in summarizing this year when it comes to technology. There was so much technology this year, I didn't even have enough time to cover it all. I think we managed to average one podcast a month, which isn't horrible considering all the things that went on this year. Plus, I had a complete makeover of my office that definitely put a wrench in producing shows and writing. But, this will be a two part series. First I will do my best to cover/summarize interesting tech from 2020. Then, in a second episode (because I don't want this to go on forever) I will cover my 2021 Tech wishlist/predictions. So, get yourself a tasty beverage, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show (or enjoy the horrible grammar if you are just reading this and exercising your eye muscles). It would take nearly 100 years before the cordless phone was invented in 1965. Less than 10 years after this, Dr. Martin Cooper from Motorola called the competition at Bell Labs, Dr. Joel S. Engel on April 3, 1973. The first cell phone weighted 2.4lbs and was 9.1x5.1x1.8in in size. It allowed for 30min of talking and 10 hours to re-charge! 10 hours! And from this point on, the world would be obsessed with wireless communication and continued to develop the technology from 1973 to today. I definitely don't know much about how batteries work. I briefly go over how a battery works and some key people and points in the history of batteries. Then I move on to the latest in battery tech news by just Googling "Batter Technology" and clicking on News. I discuss some articles and go over my thoughts on the battery industry and where it's headed in the future in a logical manner. You may or may not agree with me, and that is fine. This is mostly thoughts based on my experience and general knowledge as a Mechanical Engineer. Hopefully you laugh at my horrible attempt to explain how a battery works. Keyboards. Yep, podcast on keyboards. You wouldn't think that keyboards would warrant a technology discussion. However, keyboard technology, well… it's way more complex than I had thought. And I am actually pretty excited to have this discussion. Especially since I believe my tastes are very niche compared to what the majority of people discuss on the interwebs. So I definitely hope some of you give me some feedback and especially share your favorite keyboards, switches, etc… I completely forgot to mention custom keycaps! That's the best part of mechanical keyboards. Customizing the keys to be whatever you want and personalize it to your liking. I have included some links that can be used to explore keyboards and dive into the introduction of mechanical keyboards and start diving into fully custom keyboards! In this podcast we briefly touch on TV Technology and try to answer the following questions. Be sure to listen to the end of the podcast where I drop my possibly controversial opinion on how I see TV Technology in the future and my bold predictions for CES 2020 as long as what I think TV manufacturers will need to do in order to stay popular with consumers. Introduction: This topic was another one my friend Tim provided me, but I also thought this would be a good next topic since episode 3 we discussed a lot of what people consume on their televisions between cable and streaming. And I also admitted that I have no real desire to purchase new TV anytime soon or ever to be completely honest. References: Buying a TV? In this episode of Tech-N-Logic, we try to explore the topic of Cable TV and Streaming. This idea came from a personal friend of mine and I decided to try and tackle it. I try to answer four major questions in this episode. 1) Is Cable TV Dying or Dead? 2) Will streaming replace cable as the main tool for consuming TV? 3) What is the current streaming landscape 4) The logical future of TV consumption? These are easily all episodes in themselves, but I tried to touch on each one of them with as much information as I could and tried to come at it from personal perspective and a logical thought on each question. Trust me, you will definitely want to hear my bold prediction at the end of the podcast where we discuss topic number four. As I mention in the podcast, you can find references to all the information I rambled on about below. If you missed an episode you can check out Episode 1: Autonomous Vehicles and Episode 2: Foldable Smartphones with the links or my podcast page here Tech-N-Logic Podcast Site Other Podcast Locations include, Spotify, RadioPublic, GooglePodcasts, PocketCasts, CastBox, and Breaker. Part 2 - Streaming and the Future: Cable One - 7th largest cable provider - has been moving towards providing broadband and when customers want to cancel TV, they don't try to stop them, but instead educate them about other streaming services that are available. - Reference #1 below. Essentially we have established that streaming services are operating very similarly to that of cable companies by providing tiered access to their content to entice consumers to "upgrade" in order to receive all the content that they received prior to cutting the cord. Types of Streaming Services: Live TV Streaming or OTT "Over-The-Top" TV On Demand Streaming (e.g. netflix, amazon prime, etc..) Mixed Live and On Demand Streaming (Amazon Prime) Niche Streaming Services (DC Universe, Screambox, etc…) US Broadcaster Specific Streaming Services (e.g. Disney+, HBO Now, etc..)
