His company has created a groundbreaking battery technology that could transform energy storage.Unlike traditional batteries that rely on mined metals like lithium or cobalt, SorbiForce's revolutionary non-metal battery is composed entirely of renewable raw materials, including agricultural waste and salts from desalination processes—waste that providers would otherwise pay to dispose of.“We do not need to use mining processes, no mining anymore. So we already mine much more than enough. We should use all those materials that already exist,” Serhii explained. This innovation could have far-reaching impacts. With locally sourced materials, the batteries reduce dependency on mining, simplify supply chains, and lower environmental risks while cutting costs. Additionally, SorbiForce's batteries are inherently safe, non-toxic, and non-flammable. They can even endure physical damage during operation without the risk of fire or explosion.Currently, the company is focusing on stationary energy storage applications. “We were focused from the very beginning on big industrial applications...data centers, critical infrastructure, utilities,” Serhii shared. The batteries have potential for use in home energy storage systems, EV charging stations, and even hospitals, where safety is paramount.Beyond the technology itself, SorbiForce embodies Serhii's decentralized vision for energy independence. He explained, “I think that energy should be decentralized. We are living in an architecture of dependence...crowdfunding, I think, is the most natural way for fundraising for our technology.”SorbiForce has already raised funds through multiple successful investment crowdfunding campaigns. Details of the company's most recent campaign can be found at s4g.biz/sorbiforce, offering a unique opportunity for investors to support this groundbreaking development.A safer, cleaner, and more affordable future in energy storage is no longer a distant idea. SorbiForce is at the forefront of this revolution, paving the way for a world powered by true energy independence.tl;dr:Serhii Kaminsky of SorbiForce leads the development of safer, non-metal batteries from waste products. The batteries are eco-friendly, locally sourced, and eliminate the need for mining processes.Applications include industrial energy storage, critical infrastructure, and home battery systems.Serhii sees decentralization as key and successfully crowdfunds to empower community involvement. His work is driven by a philosophy of freedom to solve global energy challenges sustainably. How to Develop Pursuit of Freedom As a SuperpowerSerhii's superpower is his constant drive for freedom and independence, shaping his approach to solving challenges. “My superpower is a feeling of freedom, you know...to avoid any dependence,” Serhii shared. This passion inspired him to create technology that minimizes reliance on mining, global supply chains, and centralized systems. “It's about creating something new and ending the lack of freedom,” he explained. His philosophy extends beyond batteries to a vision of energy independence that empowers individuals, communities, and nations. When faced with the geopolitical and logistical challenges of energy dependence in Ukraine, Serhii used his love of freedom to mobilize a team of scientists in his homeland to create an entirely new battery architecture. Despite operating in a war-torn region, Serhii emphasized that his team's work represents more than innovation—it symbolizes resilience. As he explained, “Under this pressure...we solve problems for the future. It's not just a battery. It's a new philosophy.”Tips for Developing This Superpower:Step out of your comfort zone to challenge dependency and ignite creativity.Look for solutions that address structural problems rather than temporary fixes.Embrace a long-term vision and focus on empowering others with independence.Let pressing challenges drive you to create meaningful, sustainable solutions.By following Serhii's example and advice, you can make the pursuit of freedom a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Stay Cool This Summer!Guest ProfileSerhii Kaminskyi (he/him):CEO, SorbiForce, Inc.About SorbiForce, Inc.: SorbiForce builds a non-metal battery architecture that combines real-time power stabilization with energy storage in one system. Using carbon materials and a water-based electrolyte, it is non-flammable, sustainable, and designed for local manufacturing in the U.S. The system acts as a “volatility absorber” for AI data centers, utilities, and commercial sites—stabilizing power, storing renewable energy, and ensuring reliable operation of critical infrastructure.Website: sorbiforce.comCompany Facebook Page: facebook.com/sorbiforceInstagram Handle: @sorbiforceOther URL: republic.com/sorbiforce2026Biographical Information: Serhii Kaminskyi is an industrial engineer, inventor, and founder of SorbiForce, where he is building a non-metal battery architecture for modern energy infrastructure. Lithium-manganese-rich (LMR) batteries could offer a rare combination in energy storage: high energy density at lower costs. They swap much of the expensive nickel for abundant, affordable manganese. But technical hurdles — like poor cycle life, voltage decay, and long formation time — kept them on the sidelines. Now GM says it's solved these challenges. In May, it announced plans to mass produce LMR batteries starting in 2028. In energy density, the new chemistry would land between the two major alternative chemistries in the U.S., NMC and LFP. So what does this new entrant mean for the U.S. battery market? In this episode, Shayle talks to Kurt Kelty, VP of battery, propulsion, and sustainability — and a 30-year battery industry veteran who led Tesla's battery development for over a decade. In electric vehicle (EV) batteries, the anode serves as a critical component, acting as a storage vessel for lithium ions that are then released when the battery powers the car. Major players like Porsche, Mercedes, and GM are embracing this technology, recognizing its potential to revolutionize EV performance. However, while silicon-based anode materials hold great promise for batteries, they are known to suffer from significant degradation during charging and discharging cycles. Solving this problem could open up a market for silicon anode materials that could reach $130B by 2033. ENTER HPQ SILICON INC. (TSX-V: HPQ) (OTCQB: HPQFF)  HPQ Silicon is positioning itself to become a key supplier of Silicon materials in battery anodes, which aligns with the US and Canadian government initiatives to establish domestic battery manufacturing ecosystems in an effort to reduce reliance on China.  Novacium, HPQ's France-based affiliate, has acquired patents enhancing anode material performance, particularly in silicon-based Li-ion batteries. With the pressing demand for domestic battery material suppliers, HPQ Silicon's advancements in silicon-based anode material position it as a crucial player in meeting the evolving needs of the electric vehicle industry while addressing supply chain vulnerabilities. BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE AND STRATEGIC VISION  Cycle Performance: Bernard shared impressive results from their spread analysis, with the silicon material maintaining over 3,200 mAh after 150 cycles. This performance reflects a 33% improvement in R&D advanced material. Despite the results being visually understated, the data confirms substantial progress. Future Goals: HPQ is setting its sights on achieving a world record with Gen. 3 technology, targeting an average of over 4,000 mAh.  Bernard hints at ongoing developments but remains cautious about revealing specific details due to competitive considerations. KEY INNOVATIONS AND MARKET POTENTIAL Silicon vs. Graphite: Silicon-based anodes are emerging as game-changers, boasting 10x the energy density of their graphite counterparts. Despite their potential, silicon anodes have struggled with degradation issues during battery cycles. HPQ's latest advancements aim to overcome these challenges, setting the stage for significant industry disruption. Canadian Government Upgrade: Recently, The Canadian Minister of Natural Resources emphasized the significance of critical minerals as the building blocks for the green and digital economy. There is no energy transition without critical minerals: no batteries, no electric cars, no wind turbines, and no solar panels. Bernard emphasizes that this material not only outperforms current options but also offers superior longevity, crucial for the next generation of EV batteries. "Our material's ability to withstand more cycles before degradation is a major breakthrough," Bernard states. INDUSTRY SHIFTS AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS Silicon Battery Advancements: The shift from graphite to silicon-based materials is driven by improved performance and reduced carbon footprint. HPQ's lead in generating carbon credits and the potential to repatriate manufacturing from Asia underscores the strategic importance of their technology Fumed Silica Project: While the fumed silica project progresses, detailed updates are anticipated to coincide with developments in Gen 3. The ongoing commercial discussions and the involvement of prominent companies are expected to positively impact HPQ. Conclusion: A Promising Future for Silicon in EV Batteries HPQ's advancements in silicon-based anode materials represent a significant leap forward in battery technology, offering both high performance and longevity. As the company navigates critical milestones and strategic partnerships, its innovative approach could redefine industry standards and capture a substantial market share. Industry watchers should stay tuned for further updates and the next phases of HPQ's ambitious projects.

But you don't have to squint too hard to see the good news. U.S. and European carbon emissions have actually declined this century. The rate of global deforestation is going down. And investment in clean energy technology—particularly solar and batteries—is smashing records and changing the world. Alex Holmes, COO of Nano One Materials, a Canadian company developing cathode technology for lithium-ion batteries, announced a new collaboration and investment from Sumitomo Metal Mining. Sumitomo is investing nearly $17 million CAD for a 5% stake in Nano One. The companies have been collaborating over the past 9 months, with Sumitomo testing and validating Nano One's materials. Sumitomo sees potential in Nano One's differentiated process for producing cathode materials with a lower environmental footprint and competitive costs. The collaboration will focus on tailoring materials to Sumitomo's customer specifications, especially in the Japanese auto ecosystem. The end goal is licensing agreements and joint ventures for both LFP and nickel-rich NMC cathode materials. Holmes explained Nano One's hybrid business model - large auto plants would likely license the technology to avoid capex, while smaller plants like for grid storage may do JVs where Nano One provides technology and Sumitomo provides capital.Nano One recently acquired the only LFP cathode plant in North America and has retooled it for their process. They are now producing large samples to send to customers. Validation takes time, going through iterative samples from small to large scale. Holmes believes they are well positioned in North America where production is currently zero but will scale up significantly. Their team provides operating expertise that new entrants lack. The new funding will help complete plant conversions and trials to get large samples to customers.
