Podcasting is cheaper than therapy. Let's explore ideas.
This past year has been eye-opening. I've taken the plunge and shared a lot over the past thirty-two posts and I hope you've enjoyed it thus far. The purpose of this Substack was to find a way to force myself to write an article every other week and post it regardless of how confident I felt about it. Substack Instagram Twitter

When I was a child my grandmother used to say “We plan, God laughs.” I always thought I knew the meaning of that saying but you never truly do until your world comes crashing down and you're standing at an impasse discombobulated. Only then does the wisdom in those four words finally ring true. Social Media Substack Instagram Twitter
Instead of asking people “how are you?” a question that results in the same boring answer, ask “reading anything interesting?” You'd be amazed at what you learn about people and yourself by asking this question. We lack the self-awareness to truly understand how we feel but instead of telling, we're great at showing. By sharing what you're reading/watching/listening to you're opening a window into your interests that allow for a much deeper meaningful conversation. To save you the awkward interaction I will share what I've started reading this week and why I think you may enjoy it! Social Media Instagram Twitter

On Friday morning I awoke anxious knowing I had a half-baked story sitting in my word processor stuck with no idea of where I wanted to take the story. As I made my morning breakfast of blueberries, oatmeal and a banana I took my time hoping if I took long enough maybe an idea would spring forth or better yet, my computer would implode. After reading Atomic Habits by James Clear I learned about Decision Fatigue. The idea is we have a finite amount of decisions we can make each day before our quality in decision making begins to take a steady decline. I tried something a little different this week. On top of the audio portion, I decided to set up my webcam and record a video as well. It's the same content as the audio but if you prefer a visual medium you can watch the podcast: Youtube You can read this in article format here: Substack Website Instagram Twitter
I ask myself (as most creators of art do.) “When will I no longer feel like an imposter?” I'm not sure that point will ever come but I've set a goal for myself, move one person. If I accomplish that, the post was a success. You can read this in article format here: Substack Website Instagram Twitter

Create stories you WANT to tell, not what you think the “audience” likes. There is no “audience”. There are people who share the same fears as you, people with dreams and aspirations who hope someone may like their work as much as you hope they like yours. Do dreams have meaning? I never thought about it as a kid but as I aged, I learned about the subconscious and how our thoughts are projections of our feelings. “Change is scary” a word touted by millions if not billions every day of the week. Change in routine is known to confuse animals, changes in services upset customers, change on the ground is enough to buy a can of soda. We are surrounded by change, it's inevitable. It's the only part of life we know we can expect without exception. With this knowledge why is change feared and is it justified? Of course not. Change is always for the best and today I will help show you why. P.S. I say this is the best episode because listening back I'm still amazed at the message. At some point in your life, you will come face to face with a dragon. I'm not talking about a fire-breathing reptile from medieval times but a problem that stands between you and the goal. The idea of the dragon is used throughout history. The knight wants to marry the princess but the king will not allow it until the dragon destroying the kingdom is dealt with. In our hero's case, he literally needs to slay a dragon to reach his happy ending. In our case, the dragon is often smaller and more subtle. I hope you enjoy! People who are driven by passion, people who no matter what tools they have at their disposal will produce quality work because tools do not make a quality movie, passion does. If you're looking to start something, just do it. By starting you will get the messy mistakes over with in the early stages. This will allow you to build upon those mistakes and use the knowledge from your experience to keep growing. As you get bigger you will be able to afford better equipment and the job may get easier, but at the end of the day, it's the burning desire you had to make your vision a reality that propelled this idea to fruition. Have you ever gone into an ice cream parlor that has 31 flavors? You can't wait to bite into the sweet and creamy chocolate (you're one of those weirdo's that bite into ice cream?) but you've been waiting behind a lady with her kids that has to taste every flavor because she wants to make sure she is making the right choice and there are so many options. This phenomenon is called “Overchoice” and it was coined by Alvin Toffler as early as 1970 in his book Future Shock. If we knew about this since the 70's why are companies still offering too many options? You can read the full article: here Instagram Facebook Twitter
