It's time to mournfully smoke some cigarettes in the  cool morning air, thinking about how the decisions we make affect those that we love and hold close -- it's also time to epically prank your elders by serving them pee in a teacup. There's only one film that could be, and it just so happens to be our #8 movie of 2020, Lee Isaac Chung's poignant and profound Minari. Join us as we delve into Isaac Chung's devastatingly personal screenplay, Steven Yeun's beautiful use of restraint, and the cinematic phenomenon that is David. We also go heavily off the rails in this one, which is totally unheard of for our show.

Come one come all, it's time to discuss our tender feelings. That's right, for their #9 film of 2020 the boys are discussing Miranda July's Kajillionaire. Join them as they delve into Evan Rachel Wood's spellbinding lead performance, Emile Mosseri's masterful score, and the ever-reigning legend that is Richard Jenkins. Also they discuss their favorite U2 songs (unrelated to the film Kajillionaire).

With their first official episode in their miniseries on the films of 2020, the boys are delving into Emma Seligman's masterful Shiva Baby. Join them as they discuss the film's tense script, Fred Melamed's loving gaze, and one of the most difficult "favorite line read" segments to date. Get ready to laugh, cringe, gush, and  (for some reason) explore proper charcuterie-night etiquette!

Hot off the conclusion of their previous miniseries, the boys are back to discuss The Films of 2020, an unprecedented year for cinema that had plenty of great films to celebrate. Join them for the miniseries premiere as they explore their Honorable Mentions for this season's list.

Much like HELLBOY arrives on the scene of Pendle Hill to take on the threat of Vivian Nimue's blood magic -- I lost the metaphor! THAT'S RIGHT! For our Palette Cleanser episode between seasons, Tyler finally gets to live his sick and twisted fantasy of covering the 2019 reboot of Hellboy. This time around, the boys are shaking things up by throwing Tyler's long-time brother and friend of the podcast: actor, writer, and director Kyle McClellan! They also try out a new format for the Palette Cleanser, where instead of covering the film after viewing/playing a drinking game, the film will be watched and discussed live. Grab a drink, grab your copy of the movie, and get ready for a crazy night.

Come one, come all! That's right -- you're officially invited to the most prestigious awards show of the year -- THE TOPPERS! To cap off their 2017 Miniseries, the boys are putting on a full show, complete with a surprise special guest as the host. Together they'll honor the films of 2017 most deserving in their eyes of the coveted Topper Award. And hey -- we may even do a few bits that don't really work in this one, I mean, maybe one of the hosts thinks it's really funny, but like the other two aren't into it. And it's a good bit! I think you'll like the bit! But you should be warned -- some polarizing bits on display here.

Closing out their 2017 miniseries the boys are tackling Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049. Join them as they delve into the film's complex, nuanced take on the original film, as well as the state of the legacy sequel in today's industry. Just like that, our time with 2017 is almost at an end, but not before the boys dig into one of the most controversial Oscar darlings of the year, Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Also quick disclaimer this episode was recorded after midnight so they get a little loopy.

"Don't count your chickens before they hatch" -- For their #4 movie of 2017 the boys are covering their second Safdie Brothers film, Good Time. Join them as they delve into Robert Pattinson's already iconic performance, the authentic gritty feel of the New York location shooting, and the film's haunting moral complexities that plague the viewer's brain like an acid flashback. Tyler is gonna scream a lot in this one.

Officially marking the halfway point of their 2017 Miniseries, the boys are back this week to discuss James Mangold's Logan. Join them as they delve into Hugh Jackman's iconic performance, the film's textural depiction of a not-too-far-off society, and the main character of the film: that Texas sunset.

Are you running late? Did you sleep too much? That's right, it's time to ponder our meager existence in the ever expanding cosmos of creation; which means it's time to discuss David Lowery's minimalist masterpiece A Ghost Story. Together the boys delve into the film's difficult and experimental production process (Quick Facts with Dak), Rooney Mara's nuanced performance, and of course the ever impending degradation of our bodies and souls that await us all at the bitter end of this strange journey called life. I'm feeling existential already.

Tick tick tick tick tick. That's right, this week for their #7 movie of 2017, the boys are talking Christopher Nolan's war thriller Dunkirk. What about this film makes it so special to Dak, firmly planting it as his favorite movie of the year? Tune in as they delve into the rigorous production process, Nolan's precise, reserved direction, and Hoyte van Hoytema's career-best IMAX cinematography. Not to mention they get really side-tracked by Harry Styles's career, Valyrian and the City of a Thousand Planets, obscure drink combinations, and possibly the most unhinged opening to an episode yet. Ba ba ba bum bum bum -- Tequila! That's right, the boys are back with their #8 film of 2017: Edgar Wright's smash hit Baby Driver. Together they delve into the film's nuanced screenplay, the masterful, pin-point precision demonstrated in the direction of each scene, and of course that damn soundtrack! Grab a pair of headphones, perhaps a getaway vehicle, and get ready to hit the road. *cue Baby Driver by Simon & Garfunkel*

Darkness rises

Top 10! has returned with a brand new sound and a brand new list of movies. This episode we begin our 2017 Miniseries proper with Guillermo Del Toro's best picture winner The Shape of Water. How did a film so inherently strange at its core win the hearts of both the world and the Academy? Together, Dak, Cam, and Tyler delve head first into this creature feature/romance/fairy tale to discuss its rich screenplay, gorgeous art direction, and masterful creation of atmosphere. Cam also shares a super hilarious and embarrassing story right off the bat so if nothing else just listen to that part.

Just in time for the New Year, Top 10! is back! Join Dak, Cam, and Tyler as they kick off a new miniseries and delve into their 2017 Honorable Mentions. This episode is particularly special because it marks the final recording where all three hosts are together in person -- so get ready to reminisce, laugh, and maybe even cry a bit. Join them as they discuss Tony Richardson's Tom Jones, complete with a drinking game they played prior to recording. Why is this film so upsetting? What strange spell doth it cast upon the viewer? For their #2 film of their 2018 Miniseries, the boys are checking into a little hotel on the border of Nevada and California; oh that's right, this week we're talking (in Tyler and Dak's opinion) the under-appreciated masterpiece of the year, Drew Goddard's Bad Times at the El Royale. Learn how this film was initially supposed to be the first ever episode of Top 10 almost two years ago, and listen as they delve into the film's rich cinematography by Seamus McGarvey, Jeff Bridges's late-career-best work, and the socio-political commentary that creeps into every frame of this intricate soon-to-be classic. 

For their collective #3 film of 2018, the boys are discussing Bart Layton’s Docu-Drama American Animals! Join them as they delve into the film’s unique structure and format, the career-best performance on display from Evan Peters, and the stylish direction from Bart Layton that makes this film so slick and effective. Also, Tyler actively tries to derail the podcast with discussion of the Ice Age franchise.

In this week’s very special BONUS EPISODE the boys got together to discuss one of the wildest occurrences in Hollywood filmmaking history: Zack Snyder’s Justice League. But after all of this hype, is the movie actually good? I it possibly great? Join them as they dive into the film’s notorious production, the thorniness of the story surrounding the film’s eventual release, and the vast differences to be gleaned from each cut. And strap in, cause you already know this is the longest episode of Top 10! to date.

The boys are back after their unanticipated and unannounced hiatus to discuss Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, and their #4 movie of 2018: A Star is Born. This week they’re joined by special guest, filmmaker Dominique DeLuca to dive into the film’s clever subversive screenplay, the unwieldy acting talent of Cooper and his Co-Star Lady Gaga, as well as the uniquely mature emotional approach taken with this classic material that fully grounds the audience into this life-affirming story. Tyler wrote this summary and Tyler loves this movie, it makes him cry! So hard!

For the halfway mark of their 2018 Miniseries, the boys are tackling Jim Cummings’s masterful indie tragi-comedy Thunder Road. Join them as they discuss Cummings’s unique and endearing directorial style, his richly layered performance, and the vast ensemble that fleshes out the world of this special film. Also — they pitch a John Travolta comeback project in the shape of a Fantastic 4 stage production.

This week the boys are venturing back to a darker time in all of our lives with Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade, with special guest, actress Ashley Allen. Join them for countless middle school anecdotes, as well as discussing the films nuanced construction that creates a cringe-inducing and life-affirming coming of age rollercoaster. Also, this is the first episode that wasn’t interrupted due to technical difficulties (although it was re-recorded because of them, so c’est la vie).

Today the boys are discussing Dak’s #1 movie of 2018, and our collective #7: Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You. Together they delve into Riley’s scathing satirical script, LaKeith Stanfield’s already iconic performance, and the amazing score (Also by Riley) that drives through this thing like cocaine through a De Palma movie. Man this movie is wild. Also drama ensues when an unexpected knock is heard upon the door *dun dun dah*.

For their #8 Movie of 2018 the boys are tackling Dak’s #2 movie of the year, Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate. Join them as they discuss how Schnabel’s fast-paced and improvisatory direction reflects the creative process of his subject, an artistic choice that’s perfectly complimented by Benoît Delhomme’s naturalistic cinematography, and Willem Dafoe’s perfect portrayal of Vincent Van Gogh. Also, Tyler shares the story of the worst three days of his life, and the episode goes FULLY off the rails by the end. ALSO. Oscar Isaac smokes a pipe! And speaks French!

You may be having a lot of questions — for example: Are the boys covering First Man, the third directorial effort from Damien Chazelle? Do they dive into Ryan Gosling’s layered performance, and the haunting score by Justin Hurwitz? What about Linus Sadgren’s richly classical cinematography? Does Dak share the story of the time he had a seizure? Is this episode three days late because of severe technical difficulties ad because Tyler was too hungover to edit the episode in time? The answer to all of these questions lie within this new episode, and the answer to all of them is yes.

For the first official entry in their 2018 Miniseries, the boys are discussing Ari Aster’s masterclass in contemporary horror; Hereditary. A year full of big melodramatic swings that make Tyler cry, hard-hitting social satire perfectly tuned to Dak, and -- I don't know Cam probably is gonna make us watch some anime again. For this episode join them as they delve into the movies that didn't make it onto their miniseries but they still want to have the chance to discuss. ANOTHER ROUND! That’s right, for their first ever Palette Cleanser episode, the boys have spun the wheel of chance and landed on Cam’s pick A Silent Voice. However, as was drafted into the Top 10! Constitution, the rules dictate that we must cover the palette cleanser episode immediately after viewing the film and playing a drinking game simultaneously. Please enjoy the fruits of this laborer s well as what is easily the worst episode of Top 10! to date.

Join as Tyler uncontrollably gushes over this film for two hours. Together they delve into The Safdie Bros’ masterful writing and direction, the films brilliant score by Daniel Lopatin, and possibly Adam Sandler’s career best performance. Happy New Year, folks! Like all other shows, it’s time for Top 10’s Holiday Special! Join the boys as they get festive with their #2 pick of 2020, James Gray’s Ad Astra. Together they discuss the legend known as Hoyte van Hoytema, the sharp societal critiques the script is making about capitalism, and what sets this Science Fiction character piece apart from others in the genre. They also serenade your ears at the end and we’re greatly apologetic for it.

This is truly, so metaphorical. For their #3 of 2019, the boys have on special guest producer Natalie Veater to discuss Bong Joon-ho’s smash South-Korean hit, Parasite. They discuss the film’s complex societal commentary, Joon-ho’s elegant and poised directing, Song Kang-ho’s masterful performance, and the rich cinematography by Hong Kyung-pyo. They also sadly disgrace the good name of this film and this podcast with several non-sequiturs. We’re trying to get better we promise.

OH BOY! This is a big one! Today the boy’s examine Joe Talbot’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Dak’s #1 movie of the year and the show's collective #4. Together they delve into the mesmerizing score by Emile Mosseri, Adam Newport-Berra’s jaw-dropping cinematography, and the undeniable humanity that the film is able to provoke with its thoughtful storytelling. Strap in folks, there’s a whole lot to discuss, and this is officially our longest episode yet!

At the halfway point for their 2019 Miniseries, the boys have special guest camera operator Konner Michel on to discuss the underrated indie drama Waves. Together they delve into Trey Edward Shults' masterful direction and use of camera movement, Drew Daniels's mind-bending cinematography, and the mixed response the film received on release. Tyler also really wants to talk about Cats but no one will let him.

And just like that, we're off to another entry in the boys' Top 10 of 2019. This week join them as they discuss Noah Baumbach's wonderfully melancholy Marriage Story. They delve into the film's brilliant screenplay, the already iconic argument scene, and of course more Laura Dern talk. Also, Cam tries his best to shoehorn memes into the show and none of us will let it happen.

In the fourth and incredibly delayed entry in their 2019 Miniseries, the boys tackle Ryan Johnson’s box-office smash original comedy whodunnit Knives Out with special guest, photographer Nat Sturzl! Together they dissect how one film can slap so hard from start to finish, gush about the living legend Steve Yedlin, and the indomitable force that is Toni Collette’s screen presence. They also go off for a good bit about the Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer CGI Sequel, and do a full corner on Veggietales.

In the third episode of their 2019 Miniseries, this week the boys discuss Martin Scorsese's gangster epic The Irishman. They delve into how this film sits amongst the mob movie pantheon, as well all that it does to distinguish itself from its predecessors. Also on the table for discussion: anime for some reason, along with Dak, Cam, and Tyler's respective takes on the future of the Saw franchise.

For the second episode in their 2019 Miniseries, the boys tackle Alma Har’el ’s gaping look into Shia LaBeouf’s soul; Honey Boy.  Together they delve into Natasha Braier’s stunning cinematography, LaBeouf’s nuanced script and performance, and the surreal quality Har’el instills in every scene that makes this film such an unexpected home run. They also talk about chickens, hurricanes, and Chappie for a solid half the runtime.

In the first official entry of their 2019 Miniseries, the boys talk Greta Gerwig's barnstorming adaptation of the classic novel Little Women with special guest, actress Nicole Wheeler. Listen as they discuss the film's many Oscar snubs, Timothée Chalamet's dancing, and the almighty presence of one Laura Elizabeth Dern.
