For our first ever in-person podcast, this week Jonah and Vanessa are joined by a bonafide musical and pop-culture legend: "Weird Al" Yankovic! Vanessa runs her own song parodies from college by our guest today to get his feedback, we dig deep into the history of Weird Al's favorite cereal and present him with a very special gift. Along the way we also talk about his favorite cartoons from growing up, his tour rider snack situation and what goes through his mind when he's onstage singing his hit song parodies to audiences all over the world. Finally we play a game of YESTOLGIA OR NOSTALGIA where we get everyone's take on the return of mood rings, Pizza Hut's New Yorker pizza and Vienetta Ice Cream. You've heard plenty of interviews with Weird Al before but has anyone else asked him about Black Flag or Kudos bars? Weird Al is an artist that is near and dear to your two hosts' hearts. They grew up listening to his music and enjoying his shows and films. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is exactly what we need right now as a society. A fun, goofy, yet strange biopic that stretches the truth just a smidge. Daniel Radcliffe and Evan Rachel Wood act the crap out of this film, seriously. They do such a great job you forget they are acting. There are a ton of laugh out loud moments but sometimes the strangeness of the film takes away from the humor. Both Matt and Mike agree Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is a must see and laugh film. Mike really enjoyed this film awarding it 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt also enjoyed Weird: The Al Yankovic Story but it was a bit too strange for him on the occasion. Happy turkey month everyone! For today's pod we play a bit of catch up with DC's Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan. Not antihero topics include pumpkin foods, another incredible giveaway, and Halloween Horror Night mistakes. The Rock does it again. Who knew Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock would be a great fit for an antihero? In Black Adam Johnson does a great job of well not being Dwayne Johnson. He is not his typical sarcastic humorous self. He is very dialed down, almost a cool quiet even and boy does he do a great job. The real bell of the ball though is Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate. A fairly obscure DC character with some incredible powers. Overall Black Adam is an action packed feast for your eyes with a decent story and mostly great acting.  Matt and Mike both agree this film deserves to be viewed on the big screen. Let's just hope Black Adam helps lead the DC Universe into a more coherent direction and they can make some great films sooner than later. Mike not knowing what to expect really liked Black Adam awarding it 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt also had a great time but wanted a bit more out of the story. He gives the film 3.5 out of 5 Reels.  For next week's review we hit a fairly obscure streaming service the Roku Channel to check out Weird: The Al Yankovic Story starring Daniel Radcliffe and Evan Rachel Wood.  Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week! You will come to discover in this episode that both crying in public and falling down a flight of stairs are essentially rites of passage living in New York City. We discuss Jaz's experience with improv, making music, being a former child actor, and how to dismiss the limiting tropes and stereotypical boxes that female-identifying comedians are put in so you can be be the funny, smart, sexy, and [whatever you want] person to desire to be. And while you're at it, make sure you watch the HBO Max mini-series Phoenix Rising if you haven't already. It chronicles Evan's fight to break away from an abusive relationship with the rocker formerly known as Brian Warner, who categorically denies being a love bombing, gaslighting, controlling, rapey, Nazi-obsessed nightmare. (FWIW, we allegedly categorically deny thinking that he's a total fuckwad.) Please note: Conversations like the one you're about to hear can be traumatizing for abuse survivors. In this video we're going over the latest filings in the case filed by Esme Bianco against Brian Warner p/k/a Marilyn Manson. In that case, Manson's attorneys have been trying to depose Ashley Morgan Smithline. Ms. Smithline is a plaintiff in her own case against Manson that is separate from Ms. Bianco's case, although they have alleged similar claims. Ms. Smithline's attorney, Jay Ellwanger, also has been representing Ms. Bianco in her case. Last week, Mr. Ellwanger filed in Ms. Smithline's case a motion to withdraw from representing Ms. Smithline, saying she had made representing her "unreasonably difficult." Then, in Ms. Bianco's case, he filed a request to modify the subpoena for Ms. Smithline's deposition, arguing that she needed time to get new counsel since he had just let her know he would no longer represented. NOW, Manson's attorney has filed an opposition to the Bianco motion, saying that Mr. Ellwanger didn't just quit the representation--Ms. Smithline fired him in April 2022, and produces receipts showing he's apparently been lying to the court, opposing counsel, and even Ms. Smithline. This. Is. NUTS.
