Last time we took a diversion to talk about Blade Runner after Kojima talked it up in the Creative Gene, so of course it'd be foolish of us to not talk about it's surprisingly great, years later sequel: Blade Runner 2049. And we have so much to say about it, from it's many great performances (and one notable bad one), it's amazing production, our various feelings about the ending, and the one universal truth: Dave Bautista is the man.Episode 77: If Only He Tried Acting

SFX makeup artist & creative influencer Aleena Averly joins me to discuss two films that portray dystopian futures against a backdrop of ecological collapse, Blade Runner 2049 and Elysium. We talk about how technology, AI, surveillance, inequality, and class oppression—but also pockets of heroism and sacrifice—are portrayed in both films, how the real world is racing alarmingly fast towards both futures, and why the fight to stay human in an increasingly inhuman world matters more than ever. Topics include: • Class divides and structural oppression • Immigrant scapegoating as a way to maintain class oppression • "Are you a replicant?" • AI, AI companions, and the illusion of "realness" • The erosion of empathy, humanity, and authenticy • Echoes of Philip K. Dick's ideas • Outward rebellion vs. inner awakening • Staying real and human in an increasingly unreal and inhuman world ⚠️ Spoilers: Blade Runner 2049, Elysium ✅ No Spoilers: All other works mentioned Find Aleena Averly: YouTube: @AleenaAverly https://www.youtube.com/@AleenaAverly Instagram: @aleena.averly https://www.instagram.com/aleena.averly/ Opening quote: From a 1979 interview w/ Philip K. Anyway here is a blast from the past that is sure to help fuel the Halloween fire! Hey kids! Thanks for stopping by. We have a super fun show ahead of us this week. We start off with some talk about a recent Moon-Zombie problem we've been having. They are gross and walk around the moon reaching us once a year around this time. It's a Halloween treat here on The Moon Base. From there we look at Blade Runner 2049 the sequal the famous Blade Runner flick from back in the day. What did I think? You'll have to tune in to find out. Then we're onto The Main Event of the show a indepth look at The Top 5 Universal Monsters Of All The Times. It's a pretty enlightening peek at the famous monsters from Universal Studios! Frankie, Drac, The Invisible Man, The Mummy and all that!
In this episode, we break down Blade Runner 2049 — a sci-fi masterpiece that explores what it means to be human in a world of memory, identity, and artificial life. We analyze the jaw-dropping cinematography by Roger Deakins, marking a visual feast that earned him an Oscar. We also dive into Denis Villeneuve's philosophical storytelling — how the film layers memory, consciousness, and dystopia to build a deeply emotional sci-fi experience. If you want to understand why this film still lingers in your mind long after it ends, this breakdown is for you.
In 2017, Denis Villeneuve dared to return to the neon-soaked streets of Los Angeles and somehow turned a seemingly impossible sequel into one of cinema's most breathtaking sci-fi masterpieces. Blade Runner 2049 earned critical acclaim and Roger Deakins an Oscar, but the weight of following Ridley Scott's iconic original was almost as crushing as the film's dystopian world. We're unpacking two stories about this ambitious sequel: The pressure-cooker production tale - from Villeneuve's meticulous approach to honoring the original while creating something entirely new, to the studio's gamble on a $150 million art film that audiences weren't quite ready for. Second, we dig into the craft behind this visual symphony - Deakins' groundbreaking cinematography, Ryan Gosling's nuanced performance as K, and how Villeneuve created a meditation on memory and identity that somehow made a three-hour runtime feel essential.Through segments like The Director, The Cast, and The Crew, we explore how a film about artificial beings became a profound examination of what makes us human - all while delivering some of the most stunning visuals ever committed to celluloid, proving that sometimes the best sequels are the ones that expand rather than repeat.Telling the story of Hollywood, one movie at a time.Connect with ATRM: To support what we do, access our archive and listen to exclusive episodes, become an ATRM patron:Listen on Patreon Listen on Apple PodcastsListen on SpotifyTwitter/X: @ATRightMoviesYouTube: Subscribe to our channelInstagram: @allthe_rightmovies Threads: @allthe_rightmoviesFacebook: Join our movie groupBluesky: @alltherightmovies.comTikTok: @alltherightmoviesWebsite: alltherightmovies.com

The final part of Issue 61 is a special Spotlight episode focusing on the films of Denis Villeneuve. Returning guest host Calum joins us to examine how this rather understated French Canadian filmmaker has quietly built up arguably the best filmography of the last 15 years. Films like Sicario, Arrival and the two Dune films show his ability to do things few other directors can, and we want to find out how he's done it. We pay particular attention to his mind-bending early independent film Enemy and his hugely ambitious follow up to Ridley Scott's sci classic with Blade Runner 2049. The other parts of Issue 61 are out now and the next issue of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd will be arriving from June 25th.
"More human than human" is our motto. We watched "Blade Runner" (1982) and "Blade Runner 2049" (2017) with our friend Drew Stanley, and we're in the market for one of those replicant owls. The original "Blade Runner" is a sci-fi classic, and while Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard couldn't be any more straight, the replicant Roy Batty as portrayed by Danish import Rutger Hauer is so queer-coded we're still talking about it 40 years later. Director Ridley Scott's "Cassette Punk" vision of Los Angeles in 2019 by way of 1982 is so grimy, analogue, and punk rock... it almost matches up with modern tech. Swap out the flying "spinner" police cars for those self-driving Waymo menaces, and it's almost as if we're living in a dystopian future... oh wait. Jump to 2017 (in the real world), and we get "Blade Runner 2049," in which the future of 2019 that was predicted in 1982 is portrayed, and I think I need an ibuprofen. Denis Villeneuve takes up the mantle from Ridley Scott, and this kind of heavy lifting really takes an auteur like Villeneuve to pull off. Ryan Gosling as replicant Blade Runner "K" is doing some fine work, as is the rest of this amazing cast. We talk about our favorite futuristic glam-bots (of which there are many to choose from), the age-old question of whether or not Deckard (Ford) is a replicant, and try to stave off the several many "Dune" comparisons we really want to bring up. Break out your Los Angeles atlas and get ready for a cyberpunk adventure. Blade Runner 2049, the long in the works sequel to Ridley Scott's sci fi classic, was a critical hit whose box office never quite lived up to its ambitious budget. But, here in the season 3 premiere of the CineFix Top 100, Clint, Cal and Alex talk about whether the film ever had a chance to make money, the incredible accident that made the original Blade Runner a classic, how hard Harrison Ford is trying in the film and whether or not Denis Villenueve is actually the Christopher Nolan we deserve. Meanwhile, Dan's algorithm is learning how to feel finger to finger. Interlinked. Welcome to Cyberpunk Cinema – the Definitive Dive into the Dark Future of Science Fiction. I am your host, Anthony La Pira, and I will be taking you on a cinematic journey through the sprawling cityscapes, the crippling datastorms, and the cybernetic implants that encompass all things Cyberpunk. In this week's episode, I will be breaking-down the 2017 legasequel cyberpunk modern masterpiece, Blade Runner 2049 – co-written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, based on the characters from “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” by Philip K. Dick, and directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright, Sylvia Hoeks, and Jared Leto.Young Blade Runner K's discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former Blade Runner Rick Deckard, who's been missing for thirty years. This film has only gotten better with every passing year. It is Denis Villeneuve's triumphant legacy-sequel to one of the greatest science fiction films of all-time. Everything rips in this film, from the compositions by Roger Deakins, to the score by Hans Zimmer, to the pacing orchestrated by Denis, to the sense of isolation and desolation that permeates throughout the film, and the question that haunts all replicants and humans alike – what does it mean to be human? So, do me a favor – it's time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades. You know what time it is! Welcome to your favorite movie podcast, Not a Bomb!! This is the podcast where we revisit some of the biggest box office failures in cinema history and explore whether they deserve a second chance. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we've received over the last 200 episodes and we look forward to many more. For this special occasion, we decided to discuss the seminal science fiction film, Blade Runner. Despite its status as a thought-provoking and visually stunning work of art, the initial release of the film was a commercial flop. We also talk about the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, which strikes a perfect balance between building on the legacy of the original and standing on its own as a great film. Unfortunately, the sequel also bombed and failed to make a profit for the studios. To delve into these two iconic science-fiction works, we welcomed a special guest, Cam, offering a Gen Z perspective. This episode wouldn't have been the same without Cam, and we're excited to have him share his insights on this captivating futuristic saga.Blade Runner is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh, Daryl Hannah, William Sanderson, Brion James and Joe Turkel.Blader Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Caral Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared LetoIf you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com or Contact Us - here.
