First of all, since I'm releasing this on 01/01/2023, I'll start with Happy New Year! I'm kicking off 2023 with a story of humility. When I launched my first podcast in 2015 (and my podcast coaching business), I thought all of this would be easy. As a misguided and naive entrepreneur, I thought all I had to do was create a great logo and the world would come to me for every podcast question they had! Needless to say, a lesson in humility was coming! All of this changed when, after a couple of glasses of wine, I emailed John Lee Dumas. His reply, and the following conversation with JLD, changed how I look at podcasts forever. I hope you enjoy this story and here's to an awesome 2023!!! PS - I'm not really a John Lee Dumas fan, but give credit where credit is due, right?
Ahhhh... it's New Year's Eve 2022. Tomorrow will be a brand new year! And on this day of reflection, I share with you a story of how I made a big mistake a few years ago, and used this past 365 days doing my best not to repeat that mistake. In turn, learning more about grace and patience and not "forcing" work, but letting it come to me. Thanks for listening and enjoying Your Podcast Coach and I hope you have a wonderful New Years!
In this final episode of Season 7 of Your Podcast Coach, I share my five takeaways from interviewing entrepreneurs over the past 10 episodes. These takeaways can help you grow your podcast and continue to improve how your podcast sounds. And in these five (#5), I share the easiest way to improve your podcast with your next episode! Thank you so much for listening to this season and all the best to you and your podcast!
An interesting thing happened in April of 2020. Yes, a pandemic took over the world, but something else... Many podcasts launched during this time! And while many people started podcasts because they found themselves with time, others started because they COULDN'T do what they WANTED to do. In the case of Becki Svare, it was travel. So, in lieu of getting on a plane and seeing the world, she launched a "literary escape" podcast. In today's episode, Becki shares more detail on how this started for her and how she can easily take what she's created and start making money with her listeners and her email list. Link with Becki! I preach that consistency is one of the most important things when running any sort of content channel. If you're going to do a podcast, YouTube, blog or just active on social, the most important thing to be is... consistent. Well, last Monday went by and I did not release an episode. My excuse: A cat 4 hurricane and a bad head cold. Hurricanes or not, this still bothered me and I wanted to share a quick story in this 5 minute solo episode. Thanks for listening and sharing!
This week, I am happy to introduce you to Emily Wong. Emily and I have spent the summer working on her podcast, Career Cohort - A Community for Curious Careerists. (and many from landing their dream job!) In this episode, Emily shares her inspiration for starting a podcast, one of her biggest initial challenges and some of her biggest learnings since starting in 2020. Here's a word that I've used a lot this season as I am talking with entrepreneurs about their podcasts... Discovery It's great to have these coaching calls about podcasts with such an incredible variety of podcast hosts. And in this exercise, I am offering coaching and ideas, but I am also LEARNING many great things! This process of discovery (which I highly recommend for your podcast and business!) is showing many things I didn't know. But, it also confirms the things I've always known. And the biggest thing: The best hosts have a PASSION and a "calling" to do their podcast. As I share in this episode, the passion you have helps make your podcast really stand out. One of the best strategies to grow your audience is to appear on other people's podcasts. But what happens when you're doing that, but not seeing growth. In this episode, we meet Shelley Carney, who focuses on helping "life 2.0" entrepreneurs and is already getting booked on podcasts. I share with Shelley the single most important thing to do when appearing on other shows. thanks for sharing and listening! Interested in learning more about growing your podcast? Start here.
In the summer of 2020, when it seemed like everyone was starting a podcast, Tammy Zelez came to me for help. She didn't know what to do, how to do it, or where to start. She just KNEW she had to do a podcast. In today's episode, I catch up with Tammy on all her successes with her podcast Through The Lens and where she goes from here. Check out Tammy's podcast HERE Download the Podcast Roadmap HERE Thanks for listening!
I will always coach you to leave your podcast episodes basically unedited. Leave them in there most authentic and true state. However, I come to you on this day, eating some crow because I massively edited last week's episode with Desiree Wolfe. In this episode, I share why I felt the need to edit that episode, what I learned from that experience as a host as well as two segments where we discuss social media and SEO for podcast hosts. Thank you for listening and sharing! Link to my podcast roadmap
When I first heard Desiree Wolfe say that her podcast was basically Mom's who like to swear, I was IN! What a great content "Promise!" But as I got to know Desiree in this coaching conversation, I realized there's so much more to her podcast, Slightly Unfiltered. In this episode, Desiree and I have a conversation about the struggles of managing time and all the "tasks" associated with a podcast, as well as picking up a podcast after an 18 month break. Plus you'll hear the ONE STRATEGY I share with Desiree that made her basically say, "wow...that makes my podcast so much easier! I can breathe now!" Vulnerability. Authenticity. If you're going to do a podcast, a willingness to be both is key. With Steven Murphy and The Nook Podcast, these two traits are front and center! In this episode, Steven shares how faith is often misconstrued, how his biggest episode to date almost didn't happen, plus we discuss key strategies you can use to get your own podcast soaring even farther. And one of the big takeaways from this episode is having the courage to publish some of the more vulnerable moments in your life. Link to The Nook Podcast here. Follow Steven on Twitter here. How can it be, that one of the best pieces of guidance I've ever heard about creating podcasts is, "STOP CREATING CONTENT"? Because when you look at your podcast, or vlog, or blog as "documenting" (versus creating), a whole new perspective comes in. In this first episode of season 7 of Your Podcast Coach, I share the beginning of a journey. A journey, for at least the next 8 weeks, will feature entrepreneurs just like you, sharing their struggles and triumphs with their podcast. To give credit where it's due, this episode is inspired by two quotes, both featuring in Russell Brunson's book, Expert Secrets. These two quotes, from Russell and Gary Vee, speak to the importance of creating a lot of content and putting yourself out there. This episode begins this season's journey, but it also marks a shift in how I create. I know the next 8 Monday's will feature coaching calls, but I don't know what's coming after that. I just know, I will be here to document and hit "publish"! Thank you for joining me in this journey! Going into 2022, I really want to focus on keeping things SIMPLE. As I mentioned in the last episode, the one area where I've wasted the most TIME and MONEY, is when I've made things more complicated than they needed to be. And many times, with your podcast and your business, if you keep it simple, that makes life easier, and makes your business more profitable. In this episode, I share three key themes to help you get ready for 2022 so you can focus on just what's important. (and get the most return!) Thanks for listening and sharing! As we all get ready for 2022, one theme keeps showing up again and again for me. Keep it SIMPLE!!! Goodness knows, over the years, I have complicated things with my podcast and my business. And these “complications” have cost me time, energy and money. In today's episode, I go through three themes you can do to help you, the solo entrepreneur and podcast host, keep things simple. Plus, you'll get the most benefit for the work you do. These three themes: Don't turn your podcast into a business, turn your business into your podcast. Stop comparing your podcast to the big names. (Just sound as good as them!) If you're going to do interviews, talk to people you WANT to talk to. These concepts will help you build great sounding episodes, and promote them with the least amount of effort, to get the most gain. Thanks for listening and sharing! When you give incredible and immense value (for free) with both of these, you will ATTRACT the best customers and clients for your business. Thanks for listening!!!

I'll say it again... The fastest way to grow your podcast, is to be a guest on another person's podcast. That works for you, just the same as it works for me. Today's episode is a conversation Tayo Rockson and I had on his amazing podcast, As Told By Nomads. Tayo is an cultural translator, activist and storyteller. In a recent strategy session, a successful entrepreneur who had published 400 episodes wanted to start a new podcast. The question was... should he just keep going with his existing podcast, or rename and rebrand it and start anew? Yes. And Yes. Start new but in the same podcast as you've been doing. While this might seem a little confusing, in this episode we discuss how your podcast will ALWAYS evolve. And sometimes, it makes the most sense, to rebrand and redo all elements to embrace this evolution. Enjoy!
Just a few months ago, Andy Lack, host of Pick The Pup, knew nothing about podcasts. He didn't know how to start, how to get published and he was terrified of tech. What he did know, was how to make money betting on golf. He was a "rain man" of sorts when it came to research and analysis of golf. Studying players, stats, courses and more...all to make money betting on golf. As you will hear in today's episode, Andy overcame all of this, and in an incredibly short amount of time, because the one source all major golf outlets were coming to for info. Enjoy!
