Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! Today I have a very VERY special podcast. One year of Let's Talk Health with Mairi! Fifty episodes! I can't believe it. I wanted to do something special for this podcast. It means a lot to me that I have reached a year and that it has grown exponentially since the start. Every single one of you who has listened to the podcast is special to me and that is why I wanted to include some of you in this special podcast. The meaning of health is different for everyone, and I wanted to showcase the beauty of that today. I want you to remember that being "healthy" is by your definition. There is no clinical definition of health and there is a reason for that - health is what you make it, health is how you feel it. I hope you can see that today, from the many people kind enough to share their personal meaning of health. No matter how many scientific studies there are it will never invalidate your personal opinion of what healthy means to you. I encourage you to find your very own meaning of health and prioritize that forever. Use this podcast for a starting point or refinement of your definition. I hope you loved this podcast as much as I enjoyed making and listening to it. Thank you to everyone who participated in the podcast - your contribution means everything. Special thanks to my brother, Jonathan, for helping me edit! Get in touch with me: Email: gardnermairi12345@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mazzag57/Blog: aaahealths.comHere's to another year of podcasts from me! Thank you!

Wow, Episode 050! This is amazing. I want to start by saying thank you for listening, this so far has been an incredible experience. 1 year ago, my own kids had a snow day and I had just finished up my podcasting course. I was super nervous but I came into my little walk-in closet and pressed record. Throughout these last 50 episodes, I have learned so much and I want to share with you these important lessons. #1 - Nathan Morgan, Episode 16Nathan taught me that the autism community prefers the term autistic, rather than a person with autism. School for a long time has taught people their first language with all disabilities, but this has really changed and autistic people are letting their voices be heard. It's still important to ask people their preferences, but the majority of the community aligns with that language. #2 - Chris Wenger, Episode 17Chris shared the quote, “How you do anything, is how you do everything”. I had never heard this before but it gave me pause, and really taught me to stop rushing through even the little things, and give my best. #3 - Braxton Baker, Episode 20Braxton uses a framework of 5 Ps for reflection on IEPs. These are Process, Purpose, Possibilities, Progress, Peace. Focusing on the person at hand and these “Ps” is so important, and I am so glad he shared that!#4 - Dr. Mary Barbera, Episode 8Mary shares her personal experience and journey in the autism world beginning with her son's diagnosis in the 1990s. She has a book, podcast, and some incredible online courses that really help parents be their child's best advocate and work on so much more than speech. This perspective is so important as a professional, to hear from parents and their stories. She is a great friend and mentor.#5 - Kate Grandbois, 32Kate and I discussed The Communication Bill of Rights. This is an incredible resource located on the ASHA website. This is such a powerful tool that anyone can access and it really reinforces the work we do as professionals.#6 - Crystal Sanford, Episode 39Crystal shares the importance and supports an advocate provides for parents. It was great to learn as a professional what exactly an advocate does because it can be such an area of contention in the IEP room. Since this episode, I have actually signed up to start doing advocacy work and will be offering it very soon as a service through ABA Speech. #7 - Kayla Chalko, Episode 41Kayla is a play-skill expert. In this episode, we discussed play milestones, including pretend to play and at what age that is supposed to happen. One great thing she reminded me of is to take away the need to be perfect. Your lesson or activity does not have to be perfect to be helpful or effective.#8 - My walk-in closet makes the best recording studio! If you want to see where I am recording, be sure to check out the recording of this episode on YouTube.#9 - You can't do it alone. Not as a professional, not as a parent, not with anything. Special thanks to my business mentor, my amazing assistant, all of my wonderful guests, my social and graphic design helpers, as well as the audio production team who makes my show sound amazing!#10 - There is still so much to share. I have so much planned for the future and episodes that will absolutely blow your mind. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear a variety of perspectives that are truly so important. I have always loved to talk, so this podcast has been perfect for me. I love people, I love being around them, I love helping them. This show is an extension of what I really love to do personally and professionally. Thank you again so much!#speechtherapy #autismWhat's Inside:How did I get started with this podcast?Lessons I have learned throughout the last 50 episodes.Life lessons for myself.A special thanks to all wh

Season 1. Episode 50. Well it's been 50 episodes since Sake Revolution launched in 2020.  The year turned out very differently than we expected... as did our little sake podcast.  This week John and Timothy flip the script on its head and start the episode with a "kanpai".  John starts by asking Timothy what the heck is a Sake Samurai anyway? Has anyone else ever had a crazier first day in Japan? Let's all promise to "Spread the word about Japanese sake around the world with pride and passion!" Then, we look back on how the Sake Revolution got started... it was just a couple of guys with a sake-soaked podcast idea and absolutely no idea what they were doing. What could go wrong!?  Well, as it turns out, transcription A.I. is not yet up to speed with all the latest sake vocabulary, leading to hilarious transcription errors such as SUCKY Revolution. JUNE MY GOOD JOB!  Challenges aside, to celebrate this milestone, the guys enjoy a 50% milled Yamdanishiki Junmai Ginjo from Izumo Fuji Brewery to celebrate 50 episodes.  This soft and lovely sake is the perfect soft landing pad for winding down our first season of episodes.  Looking to the future, we see a sunny horizon of on-location episodes and maybe even a visit to Japan??  Our sincere thanks to everyone who has listened to Sake Revolution so far.  We are so grateful and hope to bring you more sake sipping, savoring and kanpai-ing in the next 50 episodes.  Let's go!

We’re doing things a little bit differently this week! In celebration of releasing my 50th interview last week, I decided to bring on my good friend Hayden Cashion (who you may recognize as the first guest of the podcast) to come and interview me! This was really fun for me to do and a really good way to reflect on everything I’ve done and all the amazing people I’ve met over the last 50 episodes. Hayden and I cover a lot in this episode from how I found my interview style and voice (including where my intro came from), my process when it comes to research and finding guests, stories from along the way, why I changed the theme of the podcast from tactical tips to stories, one of my favourites stories that a guest said and so much more! I also want to thank Hayden for being willing to take the time out of his day to do this (full transparency, this was his idea). I also have to give him credit for nailing the intro and outro. We’ll be back next week with episode 51 but if you enjoyed this special episode please consider leaving a rating and review. The more positive ratings and reviews the more it helps new people find the podcast and it really helps to grow the community we’re developing here. Yay - this is our 50th episode!  'If you really want something you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse' This quote from Jim Rohn inspired the topic of this momentous episode of Miss Bossy Boots. We look at some of the things in our life that instead of just getting on with, we are finding excuses to not do. Sometimes when our gut is trying to tell us something or we are not convinced that we should be doing something, we procrastinate. Is it because it's pushing us outside our comfort zone, is it because we don't believe in it? Why do we make excuses about getting some things done as opposed to others? We have an a-ha moment when we realise that when we first started recording Miss Bossy Boots we were finding it hard to get our rhythm and a multitude of excuses slowed us down. We finally work out why!
