Most women think they need to lose weight to change their body… but what they actually want is body recomposition. In this episode of the Gym Confidence Series, we're breaking down what body recomp actually means, why strength training changes your shape, and why the “toned” look so many women want actually comes from building muscle - not starving yourself or doing endless cardio.I also talk about the difference between fat loss and muscle building, why the scale is not the full picture, and how so many women are chasing smaller bodies instead of stronger, healthier, more sustainable results. I also explain maintenance calories, calorie deficits, beginner muscle growth, and why consistency matters so much more than extremes. This episode is all about helping you understand what is ACTUALLY happening inside your body when you start lifting weights, eating enough protein, and training consistently … without overcomplicating the process (of course!)In this episode, we cover:what body recomposition actually iswhat “toned” really meanswhy muscle changes your body shapewhy strength training matters for womenmaintenance calories explained simplycalorie deficits without extremeswhy beginners often see faster progressthe biggest mistakes women make with fat losswhy consistency beats crash dieting every timeLinks/Resources:SHOP UFYF merchandiseGrab your FREE Body Recomp Meal Prep and get the UFYF NewsletterSHOP Kion - my favorite Protein, EAA's and Creatine!Listen to the Girls with Opinions PodcastJoin FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymConnect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcastJoin my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi! Walking into the gym can feel intimidating when you don't know what anything does. Between the machines, dumbbells, barbells, cable stations and cardio equipment… it's easy to feel overwhelmed before you even start. A lot of women avoid the gym completely - not because they aren't capable - but because they feel like everyone else knows something they don't.In this episode of the Gym Confidence Series, we're breaking down the basics of gym equipment in a way that actually makes sense. I'm walking you through the most common equipment you'll see in the gym, what it's used for, and why you absolutely do NOT need to know how to use every single machine to get results. We talk about the difference between machines, dumbbells, barbells, cables and how to choose them for your workouts. I also explain why most people are massively overcomplicating fitness, how confidence in the gym actually comes from repetition, and why nobody is paying nearly as much attention to you as you think they are!If you've ever walked into the gym and immediately wanted to turn around and leave… this episode is for you. The goal of this series is simple: unf*ck the confusion and help you feel more confident every time you walk into the gym.In this episode, we cover:the difference between machines, dumbbells, barbells, and cableswhy machines are NOT “less effective”what compound movements actually arehow to stop overcomplicating your workoutswhy confidence in the gym comes from repetition, not perfectionhow to stop feeling like everyone is watching you at the gymLinks/Resources:SHOP UFYF merchandiseGrab your FREE Body Recomp Meal Prep and get the UFYF NewsletterSHOP Kion - my favorite Protein, EAA's and Creatine!Listen to the Girls with Opinions PodcastJoin FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymConnect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcastJoin my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi! Have you ever opened a workout and thought, “Okay… what the hell does that mean!?” Same. And honestly, this is exactly why I wanted to record this episode. This is the first episode in The Gym Confidence Series, where we are going to unf*ck the confusion around workouts, nutrition, and what it actually takes to see results.Let's be real: the gym can already feel intimidating enough and then you add in terms like RPE, reps in reserve, progressive overload, tempo, AMRAP, supersets, time under tension, and suddenly it feels like you need a fitness dictionary just to get through your workout. You deserve to understand what these terms mean so you can stop second guessing yourself and start walking into your workouts with more confidence. In this episode, I'm breaking down the gym lingo you actually need to know. Not the random overcomplicated stuff. Not the fitness bro language that makes everything feel harder than it needs to be. Just the terms that will help you understand your workouts, execute them better, and feel more confident in the gym.In this episode, we cover:What sets, reps, tempo, and rest time meanHow workouts are structured with straight sets, supersets, circuits, and intervalsHow to understand workout intensity using RPE, reps in reserve, and failureWhy progressive overload is key for building muscle and seeing resultsWhat volume and deload weeks areCommon workout terms like AMRAP, drop sets, warm-up sets, and working setsWhy execution matters inside your workoutWhat time under tension, mind-muscle connection and range of motion meanLinks/Resources:SHOP UFYF merchandiseGrab your FREE Body Recomp Meal Prep and get the UFYF NewsletterSHOP Kion - my favorite Protein, EAA's and Creatine!Listen to the Girls with Opinions PodcastJoin FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymConnect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcastJoin my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi! Lasting, authentic confidence is not possible when your inner dialogue is full of threats, name calling, and a constantly downplaying of your accomplishments. Even if the way you talk to yourself isn't overtly mean, if you're not giving yourself credit for the amazing work you do–and, spoiler, it genuinely amazing to be able to write entire books–you're blocking yourself from the confidence you deserve. In the final episode in our confidence series, I'm breaking down how to shift the way you talk to yourself to build lasting confidence. *** Ready to let go of burnout, build confidence, and put fun back into your fiction career? Confidence as an author is less about WHAT you do and more about WHY you do it. Which means to have a truly confident career, you need a process for making intentional decisions–about your writing schedule, what deals to take, when to pivot, and more. Even more important, you need a way to ensure you have reasons for your decisions that feel empowering (rather than resentful or defeatist). In a world where many of us were socialized to be modest, avoid shining “too brightly,” and stay humble, it can be really uncomfortable when other people think you're impressive. When talking to authors about their goals for 2026, a theme emerged. So many of them said some version of: “I want to feel more confident.” For some, they wanted to believe they were good at writing (despite having books published by major publishers!) For others, it was confidence in their ability to sell their next book and build a career as a novelist. Since those conversations, I've been thinking a lot about confidence, and I've found three distinct types of confidence – each with different benefits and methods for improving them. Today, I'm sharing that framework with you. *** There are a limited number of private coaching spots available for the first half of 2026. Applications are open now and close on February 20th. So who would you be if you weren't afraid? The first time I heard that question I stopped in my tracks. The truth of it really spoke to me. That was several years ago and I still think of it often. I've come to think of fear and confidence as being on the same continuum. When your fear is high your confidence is low. When you have more confidence, or belief in yourself, your fear is minimized, manageable.Looking at drying up fear Is like the sun shining its light in our growing/blooming analogy. In this episode we'll look at five of what I think of as the most common fears that stunt our growth:• The What-if Game• Not-good-enough• People-Pleasing• The Comparison Trap• Imposter SyndromeThere are different strategies to counteract each. Check out the blog that goes with this episode for more. Remember that anxiety and worry are giving power to the problem. You need to shine a light on it, know what it is and then decide to work towards not letting fear stop you.Lastly we will take an overview of confidence and ways we can increase it. There are five Ps to cover and they come courtesy of the wisdom of the guests we had during our recent Confidence Series. Confidence is the fertilizer of the growing, blooming analogy. It is as important as knowing yourself and minimizing fear. It takes all three to fully blossom. And let's not forget this is our part while we surrender to God or your higher power to do theirs. Transformation. We're finishing up our new podcast series called Speak with Confidence. When you speak at conferences and events, you want to do a great job, get great feedback from the audience, and get referrals and invitations to other speaking gigs. This is how I've gotten so many speaking invitations over the years - event organizers are oftentimes in the audience at events and they refer speakers to each other. What kind of speaker gets the best feedback and referrals? You may think it's the most energetic speaker or the funniest speaker or the speaker with the best story or the speaker with the best slides. But, that's not necessarily the case. In this episode, I share examples of speakers I've seen, what I've noticed about them, and the qualities they have in common. I want you to be the best version of YOU as a speaker. That's what's going to set you apart. Want to develop your speaking skills and confidence? Enroll in our NEW live online workshop = https://www.speakingyourbrand.com/speaking-workshop/ . My goal with this current podcast series called “Speak with Confidence” is to boost your confidence by getting you to think differently about speaking, whether it's getting comfortable with impromptu speaking (episode 390) or claiming your identity as a speaker (episode 391). I know you want to be an impactful speaker, to share your important message with your audiences, and attract clients for your business. We *think* that teaching and training is what our audiences want. This is what I thought too. But, I believe that there are trends going on around us that are changing this. We're all swimming in information; and now with AI, we have comprehensive answers in just a few seconds. This is why I no longer advocate “Teaching from the stage”. I'm going to share in this episode what I recommend instead. Want to develop your speaking skills and confidence? There have been so many times I've heard clients tell me, “I'm not a speaker.” Yet they've delivered keynotes and been paid thousands of dollars to do so. They're invited to speak at conferences. They've taught classes and workshops for years. They give presentations at work. What's going on? Why do they resist calling themselves a speaker? Why do we hesitate to claim the identity as a speaker and thought leader? I'm struggling with this right now, except it's not about claiming my identity as a speaker, but as a book writer. There are a few things going on, which I talk about in this episode, along with what you can do to feel more comfortable claiming this identity for yourself and the reasons to do so. In a world that is ever changing, we can be confident in a God who is constant – “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Today we're wrapping up The Confidence Series with a study on Hebrews 13 that I believe will strengthen your resolve to follow Jesus even in the most unpredictable of times. Three areas of responsibility become evident as we look at this portion of Scripture: responsibility to others, responsibility to ourselves, and responsibility to God. As you listen to the podcast, consider each area for yourself, and ask the Lord to show you where you need to change.
Why does God discipline us? What is holiness? What motivates us to keep going? How does God speak? What does it mean that God is our good Father? Why does God allow suffering in our life? Today's podcast is filled with wisdom, applicable truths, and answers to some of the big questions we'll face in life. Whether you're going through a difficult season or feel like you're on a mountain top, this podcast on Hebrews 12 will encourage you to look to God as the source of confidence and stability in your life. In today's podcast we'll continue our study of Hebrews and see how Jesus, the exalted Son and high priest provides full cleansing from sin and open access to God – the reality that the Old Testament anticipated but was never meant to accomplish. In view of understanding who Christ is, the author of Hebrews encourages Christians to hold firmly to their faith in His work in spite of adversity. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. – Hebrews 10:35-36 If you feel challenged to reconcile the victorious Christian life with the trials we're facing, take a listen to this episode! In this episode I'm also pointing out five reasons why we are not changing and growing in our faith, and the main things that I believe stand in our way of drawing closer to God. Take some time to reflect on this episode. What applies to you the most? What changes can you make? One of the greatest battles we encounter as followers of Christ is the struggle against unbelief. When our prayers go seemingly answered, when we don't see the results we hoped for, when life hurls one curveball after another, we're tempted to succumb to fear, disappointment, and to forget who is on our side. In Hebrews chapter 3, the author is making a point that one of the most effective ways to fight unbelief is to consider Jesus, to think carefully about Him (Hebrews 3:1). By considering Him we will come to the realization that He is faithful, and that is all the confidence we need in the face of anything that comes our way. If you're going through a difficult time today, this episode will help remind you of God's faithfulness to His people, always. Won't you trust that He will be faithful to you as well? Today we're continuing The Confidence Series with a look at Hebrews chapter 2 where we will recognize another reason we can be confident: because God is in control. Much like us today, the early Christian believers were living in tumultuous times. They confronted injustice, endured suffering, and grappled with a sense of uncertainty, all of which tempted them to forsake their faith. In this context, the author of Hebrews reminds them, and us, that even when things look messy, when life is challenging, and our suffering seems to have no end, God is in control, and we can freely trust Him! Our confidence does not hinge on our immediate circumstances but is rooted in the One who holds the entirety of the universe and its unfolding history in His hands. Whatever difficulties you might be facing today, this podcast will encourage you to look to Him and find the confidence to go on. I'm so excited to welcome you back to a new podcast series through the book of Hebrews I called The Confidence Series: How to fully trust God when I don't see the way. How do we navigate times of adversity victoriously? What do we need to stand unshaken in a rapidly changing culture? How do we replace our insecurities with immovable faith? How do we overcome disappointments and experience stability in the most unpredictable of times? The author of Hebrews knows the answer—CONFIDENCE in God. Writing to a people living in turbulent times, challenged to reconcile the victorious Christian life with the trials they were facing and tempted to abandon their faith completely, the author of Hebrews urges believers to remain confident because of the things they know to be true about God. I believe that now, more than ever, we need to become more God-confident and to remain steadfast in our resolve to follow Christ.
