This is a very special episode, and one I was very much looking forward to. I chatted with my good friend, Aaron Schiller, who shared his family's journey over the past few months through his wife's near-death experience with something that began as the flu. In this episode, Aaron and I talk about the lessons that he has learned thus far and he updates us on how his wife is doing now. We dove deep into the topic of prayer, which was not necessarily our plan. But the conversation turned on to it and it was too beautiful not to share. I hope you get something really valuable out of today's episode. In the episode, Aaron mentions Love it Forward List, a wonderful organization that has been supporting Aaron's wife Megan with get-well letters from around the world. You can check them out on Instagram here. Aaron also mentions the great work his wife has done through her work at The Art Pantry. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/powerful-parenting/support

This is the Father’s Day edition of Authentic Moments! I sat down with 10 amazing dads from around the world and asked them very deep questions about fatherhood. Their honest, wise, insightful answers surprised me. We talked about empathy, emotions, self discovery, self development, self care and so much more. Were those fathers ready for fatherhood? How has fatherhood change them? What are some powerful lessons they have learned along the way? What do they think about self care for dads and do they have regular self care practices or are they running on empty like moms? How are they enjoying fatherhood today? What do they wish they had for father's day? First Father’s Day. What are their memories? And some things they say just will melt your heart... Also... -Not knowing is ok. You don't have to be omnipotent -you can unschool your kids and travel with your family all over Europe -Why we shouldn’t be afraid of boredom and how important it is to have free time and space to reflect -The importance of unconditional love -Complete new definition of manhood -Take off the mask, be authentic and real -Why you should stay focused on your partnership -Alternative lifestyle and dreams. Do you support your wife in her dreams? 3 month long road trip in a trailer, yes please! -You can learn from your children -Take your time and play -Did we mention play? -Why dads don’t need gifts for father’s day While I listened to their stories, reflections, memories and thoughts, I noticed themes emerge. Family Confidential: Secrets of Successful Parenting with Annie Fox, M.Ed.
Are 21st Century Dads really all that different from 20th century dads? According to parent coach Aaron Schiller, "Today's dads around the world are changing more diapers than ever before." A welcome change, for sure, but in what other ways are dads stepping into a more prominent role in the lives of their sons and daughters? Annie talks with Aaron about helping dads transition into a hands-on relationship with their children, especially if they themselves had a mostly "hands-off" kind of father growing up. About Aaron Schiller (@CoachSchiller) Aaron Schiller coaches and counsels kids and parents who are struggling, like so many of us do–with divorce, school, behavior, a crisis, a big change, or even just feeling disconnected from each other, and he's developed an in-home, whole family model that reaches kids and adults where they live. Aaron has more than fifteen years of experience working with young people as a former Special Education Teacher, Group Home Counselor and Youth Sports Coach. He is also the founder of the Mindful Father Experience, a training designed to support dads in their journey to be more involved, patient, accepting, and loving parents.
