Advent Candle. Hope, Peace, Joy and Faith. But the greatest of these is love. The love that Jesus brings. After all, love was the motivation behind the first Christmas. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. He came out of love, above all else. Out of love for you. A love that would sacrifice everything for you Philippians 2:6-8 - Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-- even death on a cross! Gave up the comfort of heaven to save you. Hebrews 12:1-2 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. What do you get the God who has everything? The joy set before him was the only thing he did not have, and that was you. He came into our world out of love for you. Christmas is the greatest love story ever told, the one who came for you. A love that knows you fully and never rejects you Romans 5:6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. When you were at your worst, Christ died for you. And he will never leave you Romans 8:1,38-39 - Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus… For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. This love lasts even beyond the grave. A love that heals you and makes you a better person 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
This week we offer the full recording of our Christmas Service, which includes the Advent Candle readings, Christmas Carols, Communion and a shortened message - "God's Christmas Tree & His Gifts."

A blessed Advent to you all. We begin week two by lighting Bethlehem's Candle, which symbolizes faith. Micah foretold that the Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem, so this candle puts the focus on the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem in anticipation of the birth of the Christ child. Many people in our culture today live as if “this” is all there is, nothing more beyond this life. Others live as if faith is just a theory or a philosophy.Frederick Nietzsche said that “faith is the path of least resistance.” Even Christians are challenged when it comes to living a life of faith. How many of us have doubts at times? How many of us lack in trusting the Lord with our lives?Don't we sometimes try to manage our lives on our own?So how do we move beyond ourselves and truly surrender our lives to the Lord?I offer a couple of suggestions for this season of Advent.First of all, faith is an encounter with the person of Jesus Christ. Faith is what unites us with the living God who has revealed himself to us in his son Jesus. In the words of our Holy Father, “Faith is to touch Jesus and to draw from him the grace which saves.” When we fix our gaze upon the loving eyes of Jesus, then our faith, as well as our hope, remain firmly rooted.Faith is only deepened through a daily, prayerful relationship with Jesus. Take time daily in earnest prayer with the Lord. Ask Him for the grace of surrender. St. James writes, “Faith without works is dead.” A faith without works, a faith that doesn't engage us, that doesn't lead us to witness, isn't faith. As our faith in God grows and deepens, we cannot help ourselves from doing ‘good works'. It's impossible!Loving God and our neighbor is the Great commandment. When we are in love with the Lord, we will be in love with his people, and when we love someone, we want to help them.During this season of Advent, who is Jesus asking you to share your faith with through acts of charity? Do you know anyone who is lonely and needs a helping hand? Take the time to share your faith with others. Many do not have faith and may never have faith for this simple reason: no one has been ready and willing to share their faith with them.Perhaps even as you are listening to this message, the Holy Spirit has brought someone to your mind. Bring the gift of Advent to them. And, don't forgot to pray each day this week for the virtue of faith to come alive in you.May God bless you!Bishop Robert Gruss“Be on guard, stand firm for the faith, be courageous, be strong. Your every act should be done with love.” (1 Cor. 16:13-14)

On this edition of the Preaching Coach podcast, Dr. David Allen begins a new advent series. Over the next couple of episodes, Dr. Allen will share how to be a minister with hope, love, joy, and peace. This week we light the Advent Candle of Hope. Dr. Allen shares how hope is a confident expectation based upon the promises of God. Let us be ministers of the hope of Jesus Christ this Christmas season!
Hope is a light shining in the darkness. The Advent Candle of Hope is also known as the Prophecy candle, assuring us that God will both fulfill the promises declared in the Old Testament about Jesus, and the Hope of His Second Coming, when all things will be reconciled unto God.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" John 1:1-5 (ESV). Let's listen to the central message on what Christmas is all about - Jesus.

With the coming of Christ, there is no need to put together a picture of God based on limited revelation. No longer a need to surmise what God is like. In Jesus we are given the picture of God. This means that when we celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas, we are also celebrating his life, death and resurrection. We are remembering that the story of new creation begins with a baby in a manger. And there, the character of God is revealed. May we be filled with joy this Christmas as we celebrate Emmanuel, God with us.

4th Sunday of Advent Candle of Love Gospel Reading- Luke 1:39-45
The LOVE that motivated God to send Jesus into our world is the same LOVE we are called to put into action in our lives, too. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. (1 John 4:7-12)

Pastor Pete Cova continues the theme of Advent as he shares on the topic of JOY which is one of the Fruit of the Spirit and a promise of God. As we live between the two Advents (Comings) of Jesus. We each have a choice between Conditional Joy – based on the conditions around us and Positional Joy – based on who we are in Christ. We are challenged: “Don't settle for numb when you can have JOY!
Long before Mary was pregnant with Jesus, God had promised to send a Savior who would bring redemption and salvation to the world. The people had been waiting a long time for the Savior and they had endured so much oppression and injustice, pain and sickness, hardships and loss during this time. But God had been with them in these times and they knew the Savior would come… they could sense the joy of the Savior as they knew the depths of despair. They could imagine the joy of the Savior's arrival as God was with them in their struggles. Share in the JOY and real excitement Mary and Elizabeth have when they meet - and even the little John the Baptist baby! They know the Savior was finally here - the one they and their ancestors had been waiting for! On that first Christmas, Jesus was born. The earth received it's Savior! True Joy is found in Jesus - Jesus is the Savior who offers us salvation and redemption and that is the biggest truest joy we could know.
