Dozens of Holocaust survivor portraits, each standing more than seven feet tall and over three and a half feet wide, are on display at the District of St. Louis entertainment center in Chesterfield. These images are part of a traveling public art project called “Lest We Forget” by Italian-German photographer Luigi Toscano. The UNESCO Artist for Peace discusses what inspired his project in Germany in 2014 and how people have responded to its installations in different cities across the U.S. He also shares why bringing the “Lest We Forget” program to U.S. public schools — the first such partnership is happening with two rural Missouri schools in Houston and Sedalia — reflects the forward-looking orientation of his work: portraits and stories as a reminder of the past and a reflection of what is possible.

Mercy Services United is a newer initiative in Sedalia that provides a walk-in hub for social services and connection for those in need. It's a partnership between many organizations, including the United Way of Pettis County and the ToRCH program at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

The Heckert Community Center in Sedalia opened in 2022 and offers many services to members, such as a full gym, an indoor walking track, an indoor pool, a myriad of fitness classes and more.

While Missouri's GOP governor has not made a decision yet on whether he'll call a special session for congressional redistricting, he says Illinois Democrats have gerrymandered their map. Governor Mike Kehoe spoke to reporters, including 939 the Eagle, in Columbia last week. The governor says the U.S. House should stay in GOP control. State Rep. David Tyson Smith (D-Columbia) says a special session on congressional redistricting would be unconstitutional. "Missouri Times" publisher Scott Faughn was live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Missouri" and suggests a special session is a good possibility. Mr. Faughn says if it does, the new GOP congressional district could run from the Independence area to Columbia. He says with that map, Missouri House Speaker Rep. Jon Patterson (R-Lee's Summit) and State Sens. Kurtis Gregory (R-Marshall) and Tony Luetkemeyer (R-Parkville) would be potential candidates in the new district. Scott also discussed his interview with Governor Mike Kehoe at the state Fair and why he enjoys conducting interviews at the state fair in Sedalia. Over the weekend Bud's Bar in Sedalia threw a party for one of Jamie's favorite people on the planet, Billy from Bud's Bar! He just turned 90. Jamie brought a date with her to the event and ended up hooking him up with someone else. Justin Bieber posted some bizarre selfie's on his social media and said he is tired of "transactional relationships". Police spotted a car driving south on I-25 in Mead which is north of Denver. They were unable to get to the car before it crashed into oncoming traffic down at 20th and I-25. BJ's kid is driving a really old Civic. He wanted to help him upgrade his ride. BJ's wife is getting rid of her Forerunner before getting a new car. BJ wanted to just give it to his son, who then turned it down! The CU Buffs have sold out their home games for 3 years in a row now. JLO had a wardrobe malfunction over the weekend. Protestors in LA took to the streets to protest against recent ICE activity. When the protest turned into riots police were called in. One police officer shot a reporter who was covering the incident with a rubber bullet. Jamie is getting her face snatched up during our summer break. She asked her dermatologist to recommend her different doctors at different price points for the same surgery. The difference in cost is insane.

Zack and Silvana Walters are the Owners/Partners at Sedalia's Oysters & Seafood located in Oklahoma City. Zack and Silvana are married and met in 2017. Prior to 2017, Zack went to culinary school and eventually opened his own butcher shop/deli in LA in 2010 with a partner which was very successful. He left that venture in 2016 to work in another restaurant where he met Silvana who worked FOH there. Silvana lived in NYC and worked FOH in various restaurants before loving to LA to work in an art museum and work restaurants. Silvana worked under Will Guidara before she met Zack. "Trust your heart, because in addiction, we lose faith in our own judgement and what we see as right or wrong," says “Taylor”, the name he gave himself after he embraced sobriety After years of struggling to leave addiction behind, he works to help others find their way to a sober life.  "Have faith in yourself,” he says. “Believe in yourself because that's the only way that you're going to get sober and stay sober." Born in Sedalia, Missouri in a segregated community, his early years were marked with the traumas inherent in racism. At 10 he witnessed an event that would change the trajectory of his life, casting him into an abyss so deep it would take years to dig himself out.But dig deep he did. Now, more than seven and a half years sober, he is grateful for the life he has and for the family, both biological and chosen, who have loved and supported him. Today he has built a life he is proud of, one in which service to others is central.As you listen to this episode, consider:We all have times of struggle, when we need someone to listen. Who do you depend on? Taylor speaks about the importance of having someone to listen. Learning to listen means meeting people where they are, without judgement or expectation.
