While the rest of her MBA class were starting projects they thought would change the world, Angela Mader was developing a fitness journal. That journal, fitbook®, went on to challenge the status quo in the fitness industry with its strong branding around real people, realistic expectations, and healthy inspiration. What started out as a passion project ended up in over 16,000 retail stores around the world, became a national bestselling item in Target, catapulting a wellness business that developed over 50 other products, and earned Angela a 5x earnings exit 10 years later. This is her story. Connect with Angela Mader Website: https://www.angelamader.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/angelamader/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theangelamader/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/theangelamader From an early age, wherever Zain Hasan saw problems, he wondered how he could fix it. Entrepreneurship was in his DNA, from selling ready-made chicken sandwiches as a kid to growing three successful businesses – and disrupting the health insurance system in America along the way. After a botched acquisition, Zain knew there was much to be improved in the world of mergers and acquisitions, so he set out to challenge the status quo. Through rapid growth and accolades, he led his firm through being acquired by a Private Equity backed platform with an “integrated” model that focused on partnerships rather than acquisitions. Zain's revolutionary model is a look at how the future of M&A could be. NO is not an option in Angela’s life or with her team. Angela’s biggest NO had to do with Target, but by not taking NO as an answer, she turned it all around. Angela shares how she was able to find the buyer’s information for Target. Continuing to build the relationship with the buyer at Target is what led to Angela’s success. Angela shares her three tips to remaining persistent, even when you’re told NO. “If your reason for creating a product or a service is to make money, I truly believe you will have an uphill battle.” ~ Angela Mader Angela believes that drinking your own kool-aid is critical when it comes to connecting with buyers (or with clients). Angela and her company will not create anything that they don’t find useful. One of Angela’s goals was to get into Dick’s Sporting Goods, but she has yet to hear this YES and she hasn’t given up. “The NO's that are the most painful end up being the biggest blessing in disguise.” ~ Angela Mader Angela’s most accomplished NO was having Kohl’s remove her products from an end cap, she shares the whole story. When Angela has experienced a pretty intense NO, she doesn’t dwell for long, she picks herself back up and moves onto the next deal. Angela shares what happened when she flipped the script in her previous business, a marketing agency. “You never really want to take money from an investor if all you need it for is working capital. There's lines of credit for that.” ~ Angela Mader Angela shares three ways that she’s gotten to the point where she is confident enough to turn investors away. Mistakes are lessons, and Angela shares her most expensive lesson. Angela shares what she would tell her younger self.
