bEACH body ready - What the hell does that even mean? And yes, I have emphasized EACH in Beach, because ANY body is worthy of chucking on their swimsuit and splashing around in the water like a kid for the first time! If you need to get out of your head about the summer and only enjoying it when you have "got to that number" or "fit in those shorts" then this podcast episode is for you! The JET Setting Divas not only know travel hacks, they also have some tips on how to drop a few pounds fast before the summer vacation season so you can get your body ready for that bikini.
This week I discuss the pressure society and ourselves put on to become "beach body" ready for the summer months. This is an unrealistic aim to go from someone a few stone off their fat loss goal to become a bronzed babe with a 6 pack in 6 weeks. Lets not fall into the trap of restricting ourselves, feeling like a failure and not enjoying the few days of true relaxation in the sun or just getting away from daily duties for a few days. Holidays are for enjoying and this episode I guide you through some thinking traps you may fall into causing urgency once the summer months start approaching. Work towards feeling confident in your own skin while consistently making decisions to reach your goal while enjoying the over indulgence in the summer sun and go back to the process when you return.
When you live in the Midwest and seasons changes, clothing changes. For me, there is something about that first time I put on shorts, I have so many feelings connected with it and usually not too excited. My kids will tell me, “Gosh, Mom your legs are really white.” I will be honest, for me in the past, my legs have always been my trouble area, I have always kid them, tried to cover them up and just not feeling great about my body in the summer. I remember in my early 20's I would wear jeans in extreme heat and that is just the way it was, no thoughts about wearing shorts or wearing a swimsuit in the summer. And now, hitting the 40 mark, I realize who cares. I am going to buy comfy shorts that make me feel good inside and out. As I am learning and teaching more about intuitive eating, mindful practices for the body and embracing body acceptance, there is so much more about yourself than how you look. In this episode I discuss 5 ways you can feel better in your current body with simple tips for you enjoy the summer even more!
Ohhh yes, it's getting to that time of year. The time of year where you see models in bikinis, ads for cleanses to "lose 10lbs in a week" or to "get beach body ready with this workout".Aka...diet culture REALLY rears its ugly head. So, Kate, RDN, and Steph, CPT dive head first into this topic. We confront the things you may experience this summer: hating swimsuit shopping, not wanting to wear shorts, skipping photo ops, being tempted to buy a cleanse, etc. and we reframe them. We want you to feel confident this summer, and we want you to enjoy this season with no shame or guilt. This episode is dedicated to everyone ready to have an amazing summer. Don't worry, we're not giving you some overly cheery body-positive pep talk. We wanna talk about Body Neutrality; Where body positivity is about hyping yourself up and loving your appearance, body neutrality aims to detach your worth from your physical appearance. Because if you aim for positivity ALL the time it can feel fake, and even make you feel worse! Try this pep talk before you step into the unforgiving lighting of a retail change-room. In this week's episode, Frankie's new supermarket purchase is making her consider how staycations have changed swimwear, while Charlie's trip to the seaside has put a new – and far more pleasant – spin on what it is to be beach body ready. We discuss the pitfalls of the positivity industry in a pandemic and ask, why aren't women better at attributing success to their own abilities. Plus we share the pieces and podcasts that have piqued our interest – all over a bottle of Terra Organica Primitivo for Charles, and a glass of Belvoir Elderflower and Rose Pressé for Frank. In our second episode from the Edinburgh Fringe we talk to the Roaring Girls about their new show Beach Body Ready. We had an absolute ball chatting with Rachael Abbey, Jess Morley and Sarah Penney - the Roaring Girls and hilarious cast of Beach Body Ready. ABOUT BEACH BODY READY t's the season of cutting carbs, hitting it hard at the gym, and shaving everything from the chin down. Summer has rocked up and the media has us thinking about how our bodies aren't up to scratch and there are companies ready to capitalise on that. We've been shamed, dehumanised, and humiliated for how we look and we've had enough. Join The Roaring Girls for a defiantly feel-good show which sticks two fingers up at how the media says you should look. The Roaring Girls are getting Beach Body Ready. Are you? Catch the show until 25-Aug (ex 12th) at 1.10pm in Pleasance Above at the Pleasance Courtyard. Book your tickets here - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/beach-body-ready Beach Body Ready is supported by Pleasance Futures as part of the Regional Theatre Partnership Programme with York Theatre Royal and in association with Hull Truck Theatre. The Roaring Girls are a Hull-based theatre company creating work that is fierce, feminist, and fun. They use autobiographical narratives to create their work - they want to talk about things they can relate to, that their audience can relate to. They believe that approaching big, sometimes taboo, subjects on a personal level, allows them to talk about these topics with their audiences. Their work is the first part of a conversation- their audiences leave laughing, crying, and most importantly , talking. Their work is often devised, but even when working with writers, collaboration is at the core of their practice - the voices and experiences of the people in the room shape the work. They aim to foster a supportive, creative environment where everyone is heard and valued equally.
How do we resist the pressure to get 'beach body ready' as summer holiday season approaches? Charelle and Verity discuss a marketing campaign that came out several years ago promoting weight loss products and asking if you are beach body ready? It caused huge controversy and sparked a debate; surely each and every body is beach body ready? Verity talks about her own journey with her body and how age has helped her love herself a bit more. Charelle discusses her red carpet ready woes and how her “pond weed” diet was part of her regime for her first ever girls holiday. Do you spend more time on body maintenance when your single or in a relationship? Do you compare your body to women who have had children or plastic surgery? It took 30 years for Verity to wear a bikini and Charelle talks about her younger years of not wearing skirts to to growth stretch marks. We then discuss the Cosmopolitan cover with a plus-sized model and whether it is empowering or unhealthy? Would we celebrate an anorexic woman on the cover of a magazine? We need to empower the next generation to understand and love their bodies. The last 5 games. 3 wins 1 draw 1 loss Summer 2016 is coming and Steve Evans is 3 stone lighter than when he became Leeds United manager in the winter of 2015. What he has also lost is a lot (not all) of the negative talk amongst Leeds fans about whether he is good enough for Leeds United. His side's current form could possibly give hope to a lot of fans that next season could be different. A positive one, in factor. But NO, of course not, this is Leeds United for Christ sake. It in fact looks like we are set for even more confusion, because it looks like Massimo Cellino will not offer him a new contract. Poor Steve Evans?? I'm not that arsed. But what it does do is start the circus with a new Head Jester (coach) probably some Head Jester who is we know nothing about, but hey, might be thin. #football #soccer #leeds #lufc #leedsunited #championship #steveevans #cellino
