Tickets here. https://www.instagram.com/dee_allum/BBC New Comedy Awards finalist Dee Allum (Comedy Central Live) is set to bring her highly-anticipated debut stand-up comedy hour ‘Deadname' to the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe, performing at Pleasance Courtyard at 4.30pm throughout the festival. She's here! She's queer! Her parents are sort of used to it! In her debut stand-up show, Dee Allum, the greatest (and only) transgender comedian her small village has ever produced, is determined to move on with her life. Questions will be asked and answered like: What is a woman? Shut up! But you've kept your Watford FC season ticket? It's allowed! And at what point is it morally acceptable to return a puppy if they misgender you? The jury is out!But most importantly, Dee is on a mission to fully embrace who she used to be. From being a little theatre kid who was too chubby to play Oliver Twist, to a love-sick teen who learnt a new language to impress his crush, to discovering that she was transgender whilst at an all boys school. All to have to go through two puberties (frankly, two too many). Will Dee come to terms with her past selves, and become the perfect, flawless, 34DD woman that she always imagined herself to be? After all, didn't every boy dream of this from time to time?Dee Allum is an award-winning stand-up comedian and writer. Dee started her comedy career performing sketches with the Cambridge Footlights and wrote the prestigious Footlights Pantomime in 2018. Dee was part of the Pleasance Comedy Reserve 2022 line-up, has written and performed a 45-minute solo stand-up show, and started to become a regular fixture on the UK comedy circuit, as well as performing at cultural events such as Latitude Festival. In the last two years Dee has been nominated for Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards, placed as runner up in the Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year award 2021, won the 2Northdown New Act Competition 2021 and was a finalist in the 2022 BBC New Comedy Award competition. Dee has appeared on Comedy Central Live, as part of Comedy Central's digital series, and is also set to make her debut on The Stand Up Sketch Show on ITV this summer.#HYGYSTPOD #haveyougotyoursh*ttogether #HYGYST #caitlinoryan #deeallumHave You Got Your Sh*t Together? with Caitlin O'Ryan, is a podcast that celebrates not having your sh*t together! It's that time of year again when performers, promoters and tourists from all over the world flock to Edinburgh to become part of the biggest arts festival in the world. Where there is art there is food and drink and on this episode Rosalind looks at some of the food and drink shows that you can go along to at this year's festival. She started her day at the ever-popular Pleasance Courtyard where she went along to the Big Bite Size Breakfast Show to watch 5 short plays and enjoy a really delicious breakfast. Then, heading away from the city centre (which isn't to be underrated considering how busy it is this time of year) Rosalind joined Nell Nelson from Edinburgh Food Safari on her Leith Food and Drink Walking Tour. On the tour she hears fascinating stories of this character-full neighbourhood and enjoys a wide variety of tasty dishes from some of the most popular eateries in the area. The next stop was Underbelly at Bristo Square where Rosalind joined The Thinking Drinkers Pub Quiz. Their 15th year at the fringe, drinks experts Tom Sandham and Ben McFarland have crafted a clever show that educates the audience and plies them with alcohol and entertainment for 1 hour and yes listeners, Rosalind manages to get herself pulled on stage, but the less that's said about that the better... Rosalind's final stop was to experience 'FOOD'. The promotional notes for it read; 'FOOD is an intimate dinner party of smell, taste and touch. The audience gathers around a dining table with sounds, scents and textures shaping a conversation about personal memories, consumption and the evolution of food production over generations'. Rosalind talks to absurdist theatre maker Geoff Sobelle about this immersive performance which offers a meditation on how and why we eat. Have a great time at the festival if you make it along. A hilarious game show where each game represents a different disability, giving kids and grown ups the chance to learn about Autism and Cerebral Palsy among others. Host Benny Shakes invites the audience to help join in the games, while the panellists battle it out to come up trumps, in a show where disadvantage is an advantage! ★★★★★ “Lots of fun” ★★★★ “Cleverly thought out and engagingly interactive.” ★★★★★ “Extremely inclusive” Blue Badge Bunch is an interactive, disabled led game show for all ages funded by Arts Council England. Created by comedian Benny Shakes and produced by Ingenious Fools, the project has been running for three years, and in that time has toured the UK twice, had a successful run at the Pleasance Courtyard at the Edinburgh Fringe, appeared at Vault Festival and many other prestigious theatres and festivals across the UK, as well as at schools and community groups, receiving critical acclaim for its disabled representation, educational value and innovative, fun games. The format is a game show, where each game represents a different disability – drawing with your feet, making lunch one handed while being prodded, sensory overload while following instructions or guessing the symbol sentences from an AAC device. Creator Benny Shakes has been performing comedy since 2019. After making a splash on the comedy scene, the pandemic hit, and Benny was forced to take his ideas online. Benny created a game show where comedians sent in videos of themselves taking part in challenges that highlighted disability. Once Benny was allowed to perform in person again, he took the show to Bradford Fringe and never looked back. Benny found through his life that people would show him pity, not speak directly to him, assume that he was intoxicated, or unable to communicate. The driving force behind the show is to show people the societal and physical challenges disabled people live with every day, to inspire celebration of disability and educate children and adults. This issue of disability is very badly neglected in most discussions around diversity, and as a result voices of disabled people themselves are almost absent. Benny continues to research and present insight into disabled people's experiences and recommendations for the future and is determined that as Blue Badge Bunch grows it will provide many more professional and public opportunities for disabled people. The show and workshops were initially supported by New Art Exchange's European Regional Development Fund and has subsequently gained two rounds of Arts Council Funding for development and touring and more recently has been supported by Attenborough Arts Centre. The show was shortlisted for the Neurodiverse Representation Award at the Edinburgh Fringe 2022, where it received fantastic reviews. The team are heading back to Edinburgh in 2023 for a full run at the Pleasance Courtyard. NonCensored is a weekly round up of Harriet Langley-Swindon's very popular, very real daily radio show, completely non-Censored (but with all of the rubbish edited out). This week we bring you a very special LIVE episode of NonCensored, recorded as part of LATER at Paines Plough Roundabout. Harriet and Martin are joined by Diversity Correspondent Eshaan Akbar, who explains why Lawrence Fox is the most woke man alive, and by Culture Secretary For Culture And Digital Media Sport Nadine Dorries, who takes questions from the audience and reads an EXCLUSIVE extract from her forthcoming erotic political thriller His Front Bench Woman. There's also an extended interview with the man who brought down Theresa May, Simon Brodkin who talks pranks, arrests, and how being a character comedian means sometimes people get confused about whether you're real or not. Thanks to all the staff at Paines Plough and Summerhall for making this recording happen, and to Hamish Campbell at Sound Sound for recording it. Tickets to our live show at the London Podcast Festival are still available - that's on Saturday 10th September, at 2pm, at King's Place. Peace River Hickson herself comes on Playing Favorites to talk all things Press (coming to the Pleasance Courtyard at the Edinburgh Fringe 17th August!), plus her experiences in Malaysia, her love of alt-J (and opinions on their second album), her long road to Mountview, and the concept of death. It's Playing Favorites! ------------ Press returns to the Edinburgh Fringe after its 2021 premiere, described as “genius” (★★★★★ - Broadway Baby) with “a wonderful set-up” that “delivers in every manner” (★★★★★ - The Violet Curtain). When two film producers learn their prestigious, Oscar-bait Civil War movie cast a white actor in a role meant for a Black actor, they frantically try to avoid public scrutiny by any means necessary. After successful runs at the Old Red Lion in Islington, Sands Film Studio in Rotherhithe, and the OSO Arts Centre in Barnes, Press has been reimagined for this year's Fringe with an all-female cast. This is one of a special series of short episodes speaking to some of the best comedians appearing at this year's Edinburgh Fringe! These episodes will be released daily during the week of 8 August 2022.Starting at just 16 Tom Lucy quickly rose through the comedy club circuit to became one of the youngest professional stand-up comedians in the world. As well as performing all over the UK, Tom has toured internationally in the Middle East, across Europe and a few select US shows in New York and Los Angeles. He has performed two sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival, in 2017 and 2018, picking up rave reviews and adding extra shows due to demand. In Spring 2019, Tom embarked on his first headline UK tour which included a sold out show at London's Leicester Square Theatre. Tom is a regular face on various comedy TV shows on Comedy Central, BBC and ITV, and returns to the Edinburgh Fringe this year with a new show called Melt.We loved chatting with Tom and hearing how he got started in comedy so young (and how that helped dampen any nerves he may have had), and also chatting about how he generates his ideas for his shows.Links:Buy tickets for Tom Lucy's show, Melt, on at the Pleasance Courtyard at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022Follow Tom on TwitterVisit Tom's websitePage One - The Writer's Podcast is brought to you by Write Gear, creators of Page One - the Writer's Notebook. Not one, but TWO funny women in this week's Sunday Chops, the first of two Edinburgh Fringe specials – although if you can't get to the festival, fret not, as both of these excellent comedians can be found elsewhere, too.Human fireball Helen Bauer tells Mick about giving advice on the Trusty Hogs podcast, dealing with diet culture in her show Madame Good Tit, and what it's like to have Marsha from Spaced as your mum in her BBC Three pilot Small Doses. She also introduces her to Pen Island. After the break, Yuriko Kotani, a Japanese comedian based in the UK puts the wind up Mick with her talk of “kaiju” – that's monsters or strange beasties to those of us who don't speak Japanese. Actually, no wind at all; turns out Godzilla lives in Mick's house. You can give both of them a follow on the socials. Helen is @Helenbabauer and Yuriko is @YurikoComedy. We had an absolute ball chatting with Rachael Abbey, Jess Morley and Sarah Penney - the Roaring Girls and hilarious cast of Beach Body Ready. ABOUT BEACH BODY READY t's the season of cutting carbs, hitting it hard at the gym, and shaving everything from the chin down. Summer has rocked up and the media has us thinking about how our bodies aren't up to scratch and there are companies ready to capitalise on that. We've been shamed, dehumanised, and humiliated for how we look and we've had enough. Join The Roaring Girls for a defiantly feel-good show which sticks two fingers up at how the media says you should look. The Roaring Girls are getting Beach Body Ready. Are you? The Roaring Girls are a Hull-based theatre company creating work that is fierce, feminist, and fun. They use autobiographical narratives to create their work - they want to talk about things they can relate to, that their audience can relate to. They believe that approaching big, sometimes taboo, subjects on a personal level, allows them to talk about these topics with their audiences. Their work is the first part of a conversation- their audiences leave laughing, crying, and most importantly , talking. Their work is often devised, but even when working with writers, collaboration is at the core of their practice - the voices and experiences of the people in the room shape the work. They aim to foster a supportive, creative environment where everyone is heard and valued equally. She's been a dinosaur-based pop singer, started conversations about depression and penned a musical about cancer. Now performance artist and writer Bryony Kimmings is at the Edinburgh Festival with her show I’m A Phoenix, Bitch, which tackles trauma and recovering from it – with trademark Kimmings' songs, warmth and comedy of course. She tells Mickey all about it, and they also talk mental health and the NHS, art on the school curriculum, climate change, creativity for all, and just how hard it is to be a theatre-maker. Hoots mon! It's the Edinburgh Fringe! I took the chance to catch up with the wonderful Fran Bushe and her excellent sound designer Annie May Fletcher about all things periods and puberty while we're here performing our little hearts out - Fran and Annie with the incredible 'Ad Libido' (The Guardian: Best of Edinburgh Fringe 2018), and me with the litle engine that could, 'Ella Woods: Wing Defence' (British Comedy Guide: Recommended Show 2018). We cover Revels, smear tests, covert shopping, and come up with at least one money making scheme. Let us know if you want in. DISCLAIMER: I left some equipment at home, and thus there are a few little sound nightmares in this one. I'm so sorry! The bulk, I promise, is horrible noise free. First Blood is a comedy podcast about periods and puberty, hosted by Ella Woods. Get in touch at FirstBloodPodcastUK@gmail.com, and follow us on @FirstBloodPodcastUK on Instagram, @FirstBloodPodUK on Twitter. Ad Libido is at Pleasance Courtyard, 15:30 until 26th August. Phil Wang is an award winning comedian, including Chortle Student Comedian of the Year 2010 and Comedy Central Live Funniest Student Award 2011 as well as previously being President of the Cambridge Footlights. Phil is rapidly making a name for himself as one of Britain’s funniest Engineering graduates, having appeared as a stand-up guest on The Rob Brydon Show (BBC1), been featured on Three at the Fringe (BBC3) and was part of the Festival's longest-running stand-up showcase, The Comedy Zone, which has previously launched the careers of Dave Gorman, Harry Hill, Stewart Lee, Al Murray and Chris Ramsey. In 2012, Phil embarked on the Footlights International Tour, performing the Cambridge Footlights show, ‘Perfect Strangers’, around the UK and America with a sell-out month at the Edinburgh Festival. Phil will be performing his Edinburgh debut show ‘Anti-Hero’ at Pleasance Courtyard during the Edinburgh Festival. The show is a collection of sharp observations and curious opinions, told with undue confidence. Prepare to meet the biggest Wang in comedy.
