Brandon is from Larchwood, Iowa and played high school football for the West Lyon Wildcats. After walking on for the University of Iowa, Brandon quickly ascended special teams depth charts and became a vital component of the special teams in our 2015 undefeated regular season. He would eventually be named starting Safety in 2016 and start all 13 games that season, collecting 85 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles. After tearing his ACL in the Spring of 2017, he made an almost magical return to the field in under 6 months, in a game that many will remember his Pick-6 against Illinois. Unfortunately the knee was already reinjured at that point in the game, something that we dive into during our conversation, and his season would end. He transferred to SDSU for his final season of eligibility and finished his career with the Jackrabbits. We talk the upcoming matchup, the styles that each team play, and memories from his playing days.

On this edition of the On Iowa Podcast, The Gazette's Marc Morehouse and The Athletic's Scott Dochterman talk about the Hawkeyes beginning camp Friday. First, what are the five things we're keeping an eye on with this team? Next, we touched on senior safety Brandon Snyder's departure and the other bad stuff from last week. The record skipped. It should be fine, but we need to see it be fine before we can declare it fine. We went a little crazy with the Twitter questions, thus the length.
Jim is struggling with his voice today and battles through the conversation. Plenty of talk on Urban Meyer and domestic violence concerns at Ohio State, Iowa State getting a new name for their football field and then some Iowa football talk with the departure of Brandon Snyder along with Derek Duke from Heartland College Sports talking Big 12 football.
Mitch Widmeier, Chad Leistikow and Mark Emmert talk about Urban Meyer, Brandon Snyder, top ten Hawkeyes that the football team can least afford to lose and more.

Zach and Brian provide their RAW reaction to Iowa's dominant win (well, dominant second half . . . okay, fine! dominant fourth quarter . . .) over the Illinois Fighting Illini. There were a lot of things to like: Brandon Snyder's return (both to the field and the pick 6!), the defense again gives up a lot of yards but not a lot of points, and the offense seems to get on track, at least for one game. And for you Iowa State fans, we even said some nice things about the Cyclones' big win over Oklahoma. Media Day - Iowa free safety Brandon Snyder by The Gazette
I talk the sticky points of Iowa football with the Land of Ten's Scott Dochterman. Of course, a ton of you know that Scott worked at The Gazette for 10 years before becoming a Land of Ten-ner last year. It was his idea to start this podcast, which has been around since 2010. I write "his idea," but it's a helluva lot more than just that. This podcasting gear would probably still be gathering dust in a closet without Scott figuring it out. One day, after going all Doc Brown from "Back to the Future," Scott emerged from the cubicle with a eureka and, boom, the On Iowa podcast breathed its first life. It went on to have a few more lives. I quit that one time because of frustrating equipment snafus. We got new portable equipment and Scott went and figured that out, too. And we've been back on track. Until today. The #oniowapod will be Mike Hlas and me this fall, starting at the end of the month. It's simply business. Everyone wearing the same jersey. Nothing else to it. I've loved doing the pod with Scott. He set a standard and I tried to keep up my end of the bargain. We reminisce some at the end of the podcast. Never say never in this crazy business, so we're good and we'll see how the sails sail and keep an open mind for something in the future. But we also had a real #oniowapod. We have similar ideas on the hotspots. You know them by now -- WR, DT, special teams. Um, James Butler didn't come here because Iowa was his favorite Big Ten team. Maybe that's the cast, but he came here to play football. We don't know how it'll turn out, but, breaking news, he's going to be eating some off of Akrum Wadley's plate. Probably. So, anyway, brace yourselves for that. We got through a podcast with zero non-conference schedule talk. Mark it down, dude. You guys were hungry for one of these and you had a lot of Twitter questions. Night games -- Don't know, but you should know that all times are on the table every week this year in the B1G. (I think Penn State and Ohio State are strong possibilities.) QB battle? -- Depth charts and insurance policies and, hey, did we talk ourselves into Peyton Mansell being a contender for this job? I think we did. Brandon Snyder return -- I think I might've talked myself out of that, just given the position he plays and the stop-and-start stress the life of a Big Ten safety puts on a knee. High on Fant -- And Hockenson, for that matter. And Beyer. OK, all of the tight ends have value. We broke down how a four-TE offense might look. (Yes, we did that.) What would it take to get Iowa 10 wins -- 2,800 yards passing. Basketball expectations -- Scott said 23 wins. With the schedule that's just been released, why not? Yes, this isn't a great year for Iowa not to have an established punter. But Ryan Gersonde is the one with a scholarship. Biggest surprise? Biggest disappointment? You gotta listen to the pod. Once again, thanks for everything Scott did for the pod. Without him, there wouldn't have been one. Mike and I will be podcasting on Thursday afternoons. The show will be an hour. I think there will be Facebook Live elements (details still being worked out). I look forward to it. Of course, it'll never beat the best podcast in the world, which would've been someone recording the conversations (Scott, Mike and I) during our drives around Big Ten country the last . . . whoa . . . almost 20 years. I'll never laugh harder.
