It's an unusual episode this week. Elaine is interviewing our very own Louise Oliver. We get to celebrate one of co-founder's and their pathway into this industry. We talk Louise's exciting news her new venture. The launch of her film company Bar Italia Films and it's very first project - In The Room - a powerful and much needed piece. Which is currently crowding funding and will receive Creative Scotland funding through Crowdmatch, where each unique donation is matched by Creative Scotland. . As this episode goes out, they have made it 90% of their target. If you can help them get to 100 % and get this vital piece of cinema made that would be wonderful. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/in-the-room Bar Italia Films – In The Room OUTLINE: CAIT travels to a call-back audition for a film. It's been a while since an opportunity like this one. In the audition room, she gets on brilliantly with SUZANNE (the casting director) and REBECCA (the writer/director), receiving good vibes and positive feedback on her previous reading. It's a genuinely exciting project. Cait really wants this one. Suzanne announces that they've already cast the male lead, and he's going to be reading with her today. Before they can reveal who it is, he enters - DANNY - hotshot pretty-boy actor, loved by everyone. Everyone except Cait. She hasn't forgotten her last encounter with Danny, and what she's been living with ever since. Unlike everyone else in the room, she sees the predator behind the mask. When they read the scene together, Caits' fight or flight instinct is triggered. Her trauma tells her to run, but her strength and the opportunity to go off script allows her to fight. With a rage-filled roar of catharsis, the real Danny is exposed, and Cait begins her journey towards healing. This week, Caits Meissner and Nicole Shawan Junior discuss their contributions to The Sentences That Create Us: Crafting A Writer's Life in Prison. They are joined by Alicia Brown. The following conversation originally took place May 15, 2022 and was recorded live at the American Writers Festival. AWM PODCAST NETWORK HOME More about The Sentences That Create Us: The Sentences That Create Us provides a road map for incarcerated people and their allies to have a thriving writing life behind bars—and shared beyond the walls—that draws on the unique insights of more than fifty contributors, most themselves justice-involved, to offer advice, inspiration and resources. The Sentences That Create Us draws from the unique insights of over fifty justice-involved contributors and their allies to offer inspiration and resources for creating a literary life in prison. Centering in the philosophy that writers in prison can be as vibrant and capable as writers on the outside, and have much to offer readers everywhere, The Sentences That Create Us aims to propel writers in prison to launch their work into the world beyond the walls, while also embracing and supporting the creative community within the walls. The Sentences That Create Us is a comprehensive resource writers can grow with, beginning with the foundations of creative writing. A roster of impressive contributors including Reginald Dwayne Betts (Felon: Poems), Mitchell S. Jackson (Survival Math), Wilbert Rideau (In the Place of Justice) and Piper Kerman (Orange is the New Black), among many others, address working within and around the severe institutional, emotional, psychological and physical limitations of writing prison through compelling first-person narratives. The book's authors offer pragmatic advice on editing techniques, pathways to publication, writing routines, launching incarcerated-run prison publications and writing groups, lesson plans from prison educators and next-step resources. Threaded throughout the book is the running theme of addressing lived trauma in writing, and writing's capacity to support an authentic healing journey centered in accountability and restoration. While written towards people in the justice system, this book can serve anyone seeking hard won lessons and inspiration for their own creative—and human—journey. The Sentences That Create Us includes contributions from Alexa Alemanni; Raquel Almazan; Ellen Bass; Reginald Dwayne Betts; Keri Blakinger; Jennifer Bowen; Zeke Caligiuri; Sterling Cunio; Chris Daley; Curtis Dawkins; Emile DeWeaver; Casey Donahue; Ryan Gattis; Eli Hager; Ashley Hamilton, PhD; Kenneth Hartman; Elizabeth Hawes; Randall Horton; Spoon Jackson; Mitchell S. Cait Raft: “It hurts Andy..It really hurts because they like don’t understand what it’s like to be a girl out there on your husband's birthday...to exist on your husband's birthday, like to even be alive. It’s like so hard on you as a spouse —so much stress.” Andy Cohen: “Tell us about the stress Cait, what things were you planning for Jacks big day?” Cait: “Well like nothing really, but I have like so much to do everyday already: I have to remember to breathe, to make sure all the oxygen is going to the right places, make sure my blood cells are flowing right, make sure that i’m sending the right electrical signals to my organs...It’s a lot! I’m not like these other girls y’know, I don’t have an autonomic nervous system to fall back on. I’m 100% self-made, 24/7” Andy: “You...you don’t have an autonomic nervous system?” Cait: “No I told you last season Andy, I got rid of it! That thing with Sensei Dan—” Jack Allison: “—Absolutely, Cait’s been grinding non stop with Sensei Dan, and a little while ago he told her that in order to unlock her true Chi levels, she would have to learn to control all the internal functions of her body manually, and she...well she like—did it! and she’s got untold power now, she’s like the top—” Cait: “—like in the top 3 most powerful Chi users I think he said.” Jack: “See? Look at that, top three!” Cait: “And I can control when I poop and pee —and my period too.” Andy: “Ah...” Cait: “And that’s what just makes it hurt worse Andy y’know like, I'm practically a demi-god now and like I can’t even enjoy my hubbys freaking b-day without haters, coming out of the freaking woodwork saying I wasn’t in CakeWars, or wasn’t in this—wasn’t in that. When I actually like, really was...Ugh! this whole thing seriously just makes me...” *The lights flicker on and off* Cait: “Makes me so…” *The ground shakes, equipment falls over* Jack: “Honey, honey —breathe.” *Caits eyes go white and she levitates out of her chair, electricity crackles around her* Andy: “Uuh, okay everyone thanks for tuning in to this seasons JackAm Reunion, see you next—” Cait: “—Angry!” *A large flash of light blankets the room* Topics Discussed on Today’s Episode: Jack’s Bday, Lyin Liz, Cait-CakeWars, GunGirl, Biden, Bye-Bye Boyscouts and Bernie Bro Terror!! A boy looks up at his father in search of answers, and the father hears him but does not see him, for his eyes are locked on the turned back of the man who had just saved them. The man was trying his best to flee down the trash-alley and to the east, out of sight, but his progress was halted every few meters or so, in order to catch his breath and tame his eclectic collection of coughs and wheezes. “But Dad he’s a hero!” Says the little boy, “He saved us from Cinema Robert’s awful posts!” The father nods slowly still gazing at their savior, who stands doubled over with one hand against the alley wall, hacking up some phlegm. “I know son...” The father says. “But why is he running away Dad?”, Asks the boy, as their savior pulls out his inhaler. “Because we have to chase him..” The father says and as soon as the words leave his lips, buzzing on the western wind a smattering of angry voices pierce their ears. Under his breath, the savior swears and attempts to hasten his egress, the intense effort of such an undertaking apparent in his high frequency of breath, and frantic pumping of arms: traditional signifiers of immense athletic output, now at conflict with the reality of his pace. The little boy looks nervously in the direction of the voices, “But he didn’t do anything wrong!” He says. The father nods and takes a moment to close his eyes as their savior finally rounds the corner and disappears. The father then kneels eye-to-eye with his son as loose kernels of asphalt dance to the rumble of stampeding feet and says, “Because he’s the hero Twitter deserves but not the one it needs right now..” And then the father quickly pulls his son into a crouched embrace, shielding him from the swell of angry mob that rushes past them, pitchforks and torches holding up the sky. “He went through the alley!” A mob voice shouts, “Lets get that Grandma hater!” another shouts, “Racist!” adds one more, and when the mob finally clears the father releases his son, and concludes the hardest lesson the boy will ever learn, “And so we’ll hunt him..” The father says, “Because he can take it, because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian, a watchful poster...A Jack Allison.” Topics discussed on today's show include: Vag-eye-na, Jack & M*v*e B*B, Who’s Running...A Great Campaign?, Epstein Theories, and phone calls from the Slurpfam! 092 | Cait Scudder Shares Why Having An Energetic Minimum is So Important in Business Cait Scudder is a business coach and success mentor for driven women entrepreneurs who are ready to turn their zone of genius into a profitable, purpose-driven business. She started and scaled her own business to 6 figures in under a year, all from her laptop in Bali. Her work has been featured in Forbes, Thrive Global, Influencing Entrepreneur Magazine, BuzzFeed, MindBodyGreen, and Pop Sugar, among other publications and podcasts. When she isn’t teaching her tribe of 20,000 boss babes how to step into the rich lives of impact, income, and influence they were born to create, you can find Cait running in the rice fields, traveling the globe with her hubby, or cuddling her puppies. Head to Cait's free Facebook group, The Radiant Entrepreneur, to catch her latest trainings. How often do you take on clients that aren’t dream clients, simply because you think you need the money? This happens because you don’t own the value of your worth. You know you need money, so you take on any prospect that “walks through the door.” That right there is a problem! If you are saying YES to all of the wrong clients, you’re not leaving space for all of the right ones. If those statements hit home, then it’s time to identify your energetic minimum. Basically, what level of energy, excitement, and potential, does a prospective client need to have in order to work with you? That’s what you need to be asking yourself, and if you find yourself working with individuals who don’t meet that energetic minimum, then it’s time to say good-bye. In this episode, Cait Scudder shares why her most devastating NO occurred when a client couldn’t fulfill their end of the contract. After digging a little deeper, Cait realized that she had taken on a client that wasn’t ideal and definitely didn’t meet Cait’s energetic minimum. If you’re ready to watch the caliber of your clients soar simply from identifying and honoring your energetic minimum, then this episode of Success Unfiltered is a MUST LISTEN! Be sure to join us next week for our next new episode! P.S. Wondering How To Politely Decline Clients (With Class) or How do you say NO to a client that’s not right for you? Click HERE! Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode: Michelle introduces Cait Scudder. Cait shares who she is and what she does. The first crushing NO that Cait experienced was caused by Mt. Agong erupting, having to settle into a Vietnamese hotel and a launch of her Radiant Living School. Are you wondering how they all fit together? Listen to the FULL episode! There were some massive takeaways for Cait from a crushing NO. She shares some of what she learned, in this episode. “Every business problem is actually a psychological problem.” ~ Cait Scudder Cait explains that every belief we have about ourselves and our business can impact the way we behave and show up in our business. She shares why overcoming your fears is so important. The most devastating NO that Cait experienced involves a previous client. Cait shares the story of how she wanted to help the women, and what held her back. Cait had her self worth tied up with the success of her clients, and this NO led her to discover how to untangle that and get even further ahead in business. In order to keep from being entangle with her clients, Cait took some steps to ensure she was crystal-clear on who she wanted to serve and who she wouldn’t, she set her energetic minimum. Cait also mentions using a useful too such as a scheduling service (like Acuity or Calendly) to create a questionnaire that the prospect will answer before they meet with Cait. This gives Cait a snapshot into where the person is in their business and the work they’re willing to put in before spending time with a prospect. Cait shares why this is such a huge benefit. “It’s not about appreciating somebody’s potential; it’s about accepting the way that they show up.” ~ Cait Scudder Cait shares an incredible story of owning her worth. She had a potential client on the phone, who was willing to pay in full, right over the phone. Cait shares the full story and how it turned out in this episode! After that conversation with the prospect, Cait started embracing her energetic minimum. That’s when things within her business began to shift. Even the caliber of her clients changed! Listen for all the details! Caits shares what she would tell her younger self. Connect with Cait Scudder: Cait’s Website Facebook Page Facebook Group Instagram P.S.
