This episode is about my journey with anger: from growing up in an environment where anger was seen as a sin, to suppressing it until it exploded, to finally learning how to sit with it, listen to it, and find healthier outlets. I talk about childhood, therapy, teaching boys about emotional space, and the things that help me process anger today—whether it's working out, cold plunges, or mosh pits. S2E17 - Stop Fixing, Start Listening: A Game-Changing Approach to Your Child's Feelings

In this episode, I discuss a practice from the child-centered play therapy model: sitting in the pocket of your child's feelings. As parents, we often struggle to relate to our children's intense emotions because we have the luxury of rational thinking. However, children live in their emotions to a degree that's hard for us to comprehend. I explain why it's important to reflect your child's feelings without dismissing or trying to fix them. By simply acknowledging their emotions and sitting with them in that feeling, we help our children feel heard and understood. This approach, while challenging for parents, actually benefits children in multiple ways. It gives them space to process their emotions, develop problem-solving skills, and learn to self-regulate. I challenge parents to try this technique the next time their child expresses strong emotions. Instead of rushing to solve the problem or minimize their feelings, reflect the emotion and then sit quietly with them. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but it's a powerful way to support your child's emotional growth and resilience. One of the most catastrophic parts about having food issues—whether it's disordered eating, a history of yo-yo dieting, or trying to control your body—is that these strategies disconnect us from our body's natural signals. When we engage in these behaviors to control our body, we stop listening to it.   This disconnect creates a gap between our brain and our body, leading us to use food (or the lack thereof) to morph our body into what we want it to be, instead of what it needs to be. Tune into today's episode for the deep dive on how to reconnect with our body's biofeedback so we can make empowered and intuitive choices that support our well-being.   Biofeedback Workshop Freebie:  https://www.jessbrownrd.com/biofeedback-boss-sign-up   Cheers, and happy eating!  Jess

Meet Luke Barton, the Business Development Director for 360IT Partners who has a sub-four handicap.  Luke's golf journey began by grabbing a bag of clubs that was left out with his neighbor's trash. It was this curiosity that sparked an incredible rise in his skill and a drop in his score as he began to play the game of golf. And, just last week, Luke carded his lowest score ever - a 69 at one of his local courses in Virginia Beach.  In today's episode, we go inside the mind of Luke to learn and unpack the value he places in continuing to improve his mental game. Specifically, Luke digs into the importance of curiosity and preparation in course management strategy, and discusses the role of what we inevitably refer to as Big Driver Energy (BDE) and the ego off the tee box.  He also highlights major mental game and physical game changes that helped him move from a high 80s player to a consistent low 70s player.  Start Listening.  Key Quotes: "Investing in the mental game is crucial for success in golf." "Balancing ego and strategy is important to avoid counterproductive outcomes." "Curiosity and course management can greatly impact decision-making on the course." "Getting fitted for equipment can make a wildly large difference." If you've ever readied yourself for a shot by executing your entire pre-shot routine, yet, felt that at the last moment, something was “off,” yet, hit the shot anyway… You are guilty of the anyway shot. And, this shot may be costing you as many as 6 - 10 (or more strokes) per round! In today's episode, I detail the anyway shot: what it is, why it happens, how it effects your game, and actionable steps you can take to do it less often. I also update you on the next round of nine holes I played, my continued swing progress, and where in the game of golf I feel I'm making strong strides. Start Listening. Noteworthy Sound Bites: "An anyway shot is any particular situation you find yourself in where you know that something is off. Something is not quite right, almost as if there is a crack in your metaphorical pre-shot routine armor. Yet, you hit the shot anyway." "My estimate is you might hit at least five to 10 anyway shots throughout an entire 18-hole round. That could be five to 10 different strokes you could potentially save if you gather the courage, awareness, and composure to back off the ball any time something doesn't feel right." "Can we identify a theme, trend, or pattern? Does it occur in particular situations where you have a lie that you haven't worked on much? Anytime you're hitting a shot where there's doubt, uncertainty, second-guessing, or just a general, 'I have no clue,' it's just an opportunity to make a note during your round on what you need to study and focus on away from the course." Are your prayers selfish? Stop asking, start listening.

It's a beautiful thing when we choose to lay down our wants and needs for the things of God. A selfless prayer shifts our focus from our desires and needs to what God wants for our life. That might seem counterintuitive considering most prayers consist of asking God for His blessings and help, but that's not the problem. Asking God to help you is not what makes a prayer selfish. What makes a prayer selfish is when we begin to put our desires ahead of what God wants. When you choose to lay down what you want for the things God wants, that's selflessness. I want more than ever to be aligned with the heart of God and His will for my life. I know it can be incredibly challenging because we can't see the future, and often God's entire plan for us is not revealed all at once. The goals and dreams you have for yourself don't even come close to what God has in store for you. It's through life's journey and walking by faith that His will is revealed.Today, don't just beg God for the things you want. There's nothing wrong with asking, but choose to remain selfless by surrendering your wants to the will of God. Be willing to lay down your wants and needs for what God wants for your life and watch His miraculous handiwork. Remain humble before Him when you pray, and choose to align your heart selflessly with His.Support the Show.
