Many people continue to pray for First Baptist Dallas after the church lost its Historic Sanctuary in a fire Friday, July 19th. The church plans on rebuilding. Let's share those prayers for Pleasant Vally Baptist Church that also caught fire last Friday, July 26th. Paul David Taylor has served as pastor there for 48-years and was inside the church when he noticed something wasn't right. He could smell smoke. The pastor called 911 and then called his wife and asked her to pray. The fire destroyed the churches offices and library, but the sanctuary and hundreds of old books and the pastor's Bible were all saved. When asked what's next, the pastor said, "Where do we go from here? We rest in him, trust him and pray to him. Meet and worship and lift him high because of what he did and is going to do," Taylor said. "God is going to give us a building to be in."
Plus, three people in Arlington were hospitalized Sunday after a house fire, and Gateway Church in Southlake issued another apology to a woman who says former Pastor Robert Morris sexually abused her as a teen.

Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dallas takes a multifaceted approach to fighting hunger in the food-desert community it serves, persevering amid rising inflation and greater need. An AdelFi study conducted by Lifeway Research found that having a Christian worldview impacts the way young adults (ages 25-40) manage their money, which is most evident in that Christians give nearly three times as much money as non-Christians. And, prayer is a great resource for helping someone who is hurting.

Mary Lowe is the cofounder of Families Engaged. Mary and I attended an event in September hosted by the Women of St. Michael called “BRIDGING THE DIVIDE: A 5-part lecture series addressing structural divides in America.”She and I gave a play-by-play of the details of the event. The live recording is on Facebook. Learn about the nuances of failed reforms championed by former US Education Secretary Margaret Spellings and her interview with Commit founder Todd Williams. Spellings was appointed by George W. Bush. Williams was chosen to be the education advisor of former Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings and was appointed to four boards and commissions under Governor Greg Abbott. These two controversial education reformers have had enormous influence on public education policy over the last decade. How's it working for us? Todd Williams said, “Data gives a voice to a child.” Mary and I believe parents and teachers give a voice to a child.Spellings is on the board of Amplify Education where they were awarded a $50 million contract with the Texas Education Agency. Outcomes-based education is not the answer to public education. The best solution is to return to time-tested reading strategies and a classical education rooted in academic knowledge. Data-driven reforms reduce students and teachers to datapoints while edtech vendors and venture capitalists get rich.
