For review:1. In a video statement on Tuesday summing up the war against Iran, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel “achieved a historic victory” that would “abide for generations."“Now, the focus returns to Gaza, to bringing the hostages home and toppling Hamas rule,” he added. 2. IDF: Iran's Nuclear Program Set Back Years. Israel Defense Forces spokesman Brigadier General Effi Defrin said Wednesday: "I can say here that the assessment is that we significantly damaged the nuclear program, and I can also say that we set it back by years, I repeat, years.” 3. Iran Foreign Ministry: Nuclear Facilities "Badly Damaged." Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei on Wednesday conceded the Sunday strikes by American B-2 bombers using bunker-buster bombs had been significant. 4. Iran has, over the last 12 days, arrested more than 700 people accused of ties with Israel, state-linked media reported Wednesday.5. The United States and Qatar said Wednesday that the ceasefire in Iran has created an opportunity to advance truce-hostage talks they are mediating between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. 6. NATO Agrees to Boost Spending to 5% GDP. The 5% GDP figure is a bit of a workaround, with 3.5% for core defense tasks and an additional 1.5% on measures that support defense and security- such as cyber defense. 7. The United Kingdom announced today it will buy “at least” 12 F-35As and will use the jets to “join NATO's dual capable nuclear mission” in what it called a “major boost” for the alliance's security.
What happens in the body when you fast for 3 days is jawdropping. In this episode I detail hour by hour exactly what happens inside your body from the moment you take your last bite of food, and in doing so I highlight what the benefits of doing a brief fast like this are to your health. We talk about your glucose, insulin, and glycogen levels and how they are affected by your fast, plus when and how fat breakdown starts to occur. We introduce the term ketosis where in response to your fast your liver converts fatty acids into ketone bodies for fuel. After 12 hours glycogen reserves are spent. We hear about the cell cleaning process called autophagy which is one of the main benefits of fasting, and this kicks in between hours 18 to 24 of fasting. Mental clarity appears to be one of the additional benefits of fasting too, while insulin sensitivity is also enhanced, which will allow your cells to handle glucose more efficiently once you resume eating. After 36 hours a regenerative switch flips in your immune system as old white blood cells are broken down. Damaged mitochiondria are cleared out improving cellular efficiency. Ketone production reaches a peak and IgF-1 a growth factor is suppressed, authophagy winds down. Despite all these changes arising from a brief fast, its not true to suggest that fasting will reset your digestive system as some influencers have claimed. Fasting will reduce inflammation and improve your lipid profile and more. A short term fast is NOT a fat loss tool, nor is its a detox, nor will it help with gut issues such as IBS. Any fast should be done in consultation with a medical professional especially if you have any history of disordered eating. Israel-Iran ceasefire holds into second day, but early U.S. intelligence finds air strikes did little to set back Iran's nuclear program. Then, a whistleblower says a top Department of Justice official suggested ignoring court orders in order to follow Trump's deportation campaign. Plus, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell testifies in Congress, defending higher interest rates. Jeff Mason, Carol Leonnig, Lieutenant General Mark Hertling, David Jolly, Barry Ritholtz, Brendan Greeley and Yaakov Katz join The 11th Hour this Tuesday.
The U.S. military's strikes on three of Iran's nuclear facilities over the weekend did not destroy the core components of its nuclear program and likely only set it back by months, according to an early U.S. intelligence assessment that was described by sources briefed on it. The White House acknowledged the existence of the assessment but said it disagreed with it. Plus, those concerned about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza for Palestinians and the health and safety of hostages being held by Hamas and others are hoping attention will return to negotiations for a deal on a ceasefire and hostage return. Anderson speaks to Rachel Golberg and Jon Polin, whose son Hersh was taken hostage during the October 7th attacks and executed by Hamas. Learn more about your ad choices. For decades, dietary guidelines—and the Food Pyramid in particular—have been at the center of heated debates and considerable controversy. These guidelines have often been accused of being influenced by industry interests, oversimplifying nutritional nuance, or even directly contributing to rising obesity and metabolic disease rates. In this episode, we critically assess common claims surrounding the Food Pyramid, including whether it was truly shaped by vested industry interests, if it encouraged harmful dietary shifts toward excessive carbohydrate and sugar consumption, and whether the subsequent health outcomes seen at the population level can be fairly attributed to these guidelines. Additionally, we evaluate the role of the sugar industry in funding key studies and publications, examining the implications such conflicts of interest may have had on nutritional science. Drawing on historical context, rigorous examination of scientific evidence, and an evaluation of how nutritional recommendations have evolved, this discussion aims to clarify misunderstandings, highlight legitimate criticisms, and separate fact from persistent myths regarding dietary guidance and its implications for health. When we last recorded Saturday night, the U.S. had just announced its strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. The U.S. had entered the war. The restrainers had seemingly lost. In the following hours, President Donald Trump said the mission was a “spectacular military success.” And Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the program “obliterated” Iran's nuclear sites. But there's much more to that story than meets the eye. As Jay Solomon wrote in our pages: Before the U.S. struck, 16 cargo trucks entered the fortified mountain complex and moved unidentified equipment to another location. Are the sites destroyed or merely damaged? Was enriched uranium smuggled out? It all remains unclear. Now the war is heating up. Israel has expanded its bombing campaign beyond nuclear facilities to hit regime targets. Qatar has closed its airspace. And just as we write this, Iran has reportedly fired toward Qatar and Iraq. It all begs the question: Was the strike on Iran's Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant the end of this war—or just the beginning? And what comes next? To understand the state of the nuclear facilities and the state of the war, we've brought together three of the most well-read experts: Michael Oren, Jay Solomon, and Matti Friedman. Oren is the former Israeli ambassador to the U.S. He served from 2009 to 2013. He is also a former Knesset member. He is the author of many books, including Ally: My Journey Across the American-Israeli Divide. Solomon is an investigative journalist who has covered Iran and the region for decades. He just published an explosive piece for The Free Press titled “Did Iran Just Sneak Out Critical Nuclear Material from Fordow?” And, Friedman is our Jerusalem-based columnist, and the author of four books, including his latest, Who by Fire: Leonard Cohen in the Sinai. He just wrote “After the Bombs: American B-2s Just Changed the Middle East. Now It's Time to Return the Region to the Humans Who Live Here” for our pages. We'll note we recorded this Monday morning, starting around 11 a.m. ET, as a Free Press Live event. To join these, you just need to do one thing—and that's become a Free Press subscriber.
