What do you do when life blindsides you—literally? When everything you've built is taken away in an instant, do you let it break you… or rebuild stronger than before? In this inspiring episode, Aaron Hale shares his incredible journey from tragedy to triumph. A U.S. Army EOD veteran, real estate investor, entrepreneur, podcaster, and ultra-endurance athlete, Aaron lost both his eyesight and hearing after a devastating explosion overseas. But instead of giving up, he rebuilt his life with purpose. Today, he's a husband, father, and the first blind and deaf person to complete the Badwater 135, the world's toughest foot race. He's also the host of the Point of Impact Podcast, where he motivates others to push past limits and create change.Aaron's story will challenge you to ask:What excuses are holding you back? What would your life look like if you stopped waiting to be “ready” and just started? This conversation is proof that while we can't always choose what happens to us, we can choose what happens next.Quotes:“Maturity is looking forward and it's accepting responsibility. I fought responsibility for so long, and I sought out enjoyment rather than responsibility. What I needed was the long view of my life, and it takes time. That's why it's called maturity, because it's a transition.”"I'm not extraordinary, I'm not a superhero or anything like that. I'm an average Joe. Each one of you has the ability to do and accomplish so much, and you don't have to get blown up to do it.""You can choose to do amazing things. Allow yourself to look through this window of life, and all you got to do is open the curtains a little bit wider, reach a little bit further, think bigger, and work towards that. Actionable Takeaways:Ask “How can I?” instead of “I can't.”When faced with challenges, shift your mindset from limitation to possibility. Reframe every obstacle as a question that invites creativity and action.Do something hard on purpose.Choose a challenge that stretches you — whether it's physical, mental, or emotional. Growth happens when you deliberately step outside your comfort zone.Find strength in service. When you're feeling low or lost, look for ways to help someone else. Turning your pain into purpose can reignite meaning in your own life.Build momentum through small, daily actions.Motivation fades, but discipline compounds. Take one small, consistent step each day toward a goal that matters to you.Use your story to inspire others.Reflect on a struggle you've overcome and share the lesson. Someone else may be waiting for the hope only your experience can give. Conclusion:Aaron Hale's journey is a reminder that even in total darkness, you can still choose light. His story proves that strength isn't about what happens to you—it's about how you respond. The habits you build, the attitude you choose, and the courage to keep going will define your future far more than any setback ever could.Let Aaron's example push you to take ownership of your story, face challenges head-on, and live with purpose—because the limits you think you have might only be the ones you've accepted.Connect with Aaron HaleBe inspired to push past limits and turn challenges into purpose.Follow Aaron's journey, tune in to the Point of Impact Podcast, and discover more stories that remind you what's truly possible.
Claire Johnston is a wife, mother, and, as her husband proudly jokes, a social work entrepreneur. Claire is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified Oncology Social Worker. She is also a childhood cancer survivor herself, which propelled her work into the field of social work to help others who are navigating challenging circumstances. Claire works part-time as the Oncology Social Worker at AdventHealth Porter in Denver, is an adjunct faculty for the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver, and works on a contract basis in the field of child welfare.Claire is also the Executive Director of, and inspiration behind, Christmas Commandos, a nonprofit organization that provides emotional support during the holiday season to families who have experienced an out of order loss of a loved one. This support is delivered through the anonymous and secret delivery of meaningful gifts for surviving family members, which are specially shopped for, wrapped and packaged with love. These gifts are secretly delivered to the recipient family's doorstep one evening leading up to Christmas, tagged with a note signed from the Christmas Commandos. The note shares that these gifts have been delivered in the spirit of love as a reminder that their community has not forgotten about them during an incredibly difficult time in their lives. A small angel statue in memory of their loved one is also left on their doorstep, and their front yard is decorated with holiday cheer – garlands, ornaments, and candy canes.https://www.christmascommandos.org/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064881512164https://www.instagram.com/christmascommandos*************************************************************Judy Carlson is the CEO and Founder of the Judy Carlson Financial Group, where she helps couples create personalized, coordinated financial plans that support the life they want to live – now and in the future. As an Independent Fiduciary and Comprehensive Financial Planner, Judy specializes in retirement income and wealth decumulation strategies. Send us a textCharles Rapson takes us on a fascinating journey through his accidental discovery of social enterprise and his current mission as Social Economy Growth Lead at West Midlands Combined Authority. With refreshing candour, he shares how he's leveraging his position to champion a sector that employs over 100,000 people and engages 200,000+ volunteers across the West Midlands. The conversation reveals how Charles has successfully shifted perceptions of the social economy within regional government, securing £2.5 million in funding and ensuring social enterprises feature prominently in strategic planning. His innovative place-based approach is rebuilding vital infrastructure by supporting nine organisations to become community hubs where relationships, trust, and partnerships can flourish. We dive deep into the challenges of social value procurement, with Charles articulating a compelling vision for moving beyond tick-box exercises to measuring real impact. His practical strategies - breaking down large contracts into manageable lots, making social value contractual and measurable, recognising intrinsic value alongside additional value - offer a blueprint for procurement that genuinely supports inclusive growth.Looking ahead, Charles outlines his comprehensive ecosystem approach to growing the social economy, encompassing everything from business support and access to finance to education initiatives modelled on Scotland's successful Social Enterprise Academy. His determination to map and understand the region's 9,314 social economy organisations demonstrates a data-driven approach to strategic investment.Whether you're a social entrepreneur seeking opportunities, a public sector professional interested in procurement innovation, or simply curious about how regional economies can become more inclusive, this conversation offers valuable insights into transforming systems from within. Send us a textWhat happens when a spare bedroom becomes the solution to both loneliness and housing affordability? Lucie Cunningham reveals the life-changing power of intergenerational home sharing in this thought-provoking conversation. After witnessing elderly clients spending 21 hours alone each day in her home care work, Lucie founded THE HomeShare, a social enterprise that matches older homeowners with younger people seeking affordable accommodation. The concept creates a beautifully balanced relationship where elderly participants offer free housing while receiving companionship and practical support in return. "They become buddies, they become friends," Lucie explains, "and they both appreciate each other because they both need each other."The impact is extraordinary. Eighty-three percent of elderly participants, whose average age is 87, report a greater sense of purpose. Hospital admissions drop by 42%, and falls decrease by 50%. One 103-year-old participant proclaimed that instead of "sitting in a nursing home waiting to die," she was enabling a young person to attend university. Meanwhile, younger participants gain affordable housing, with half eventually saving enough to purchase their own homes.Beyond these direct benefits, home sharing creates ripple effects throughout communities. Family members visit "because they want to, not because they have to." Neighbours feel reassured. Healthcare systems experience reduced demand. The arrangement preserves dignity and independence while maximizing underutilized housing stock.Despite proven success and a potential €1.53 return on investment for every euro spent, home sharing still struggles for governmental recognition. Lucie attributes this to fear of the unfamiliar, though THE HomeShare's robust safeguarding processes have prevented any significant issues across hundreds of matches.Connect with Lucie via thehomeshare.ie or explore global options through homeshareinternational.org.Support the showHi, I'm Heidi Fisher, the host of the Make an Impact Podcast. In late 2011, I learned about Sertoma while golfing, and this organization has impacted my life ever since. I was instrumental in forming the SouthGlenn Sertoma Club in 2012 and have been an active member ever since. I held many positions in my local club and served in several roles at the National level. We're all tempted, at times, to allow our ego to get the better of us. Many of us feel like we're on top of the world until the precise time we find ourselves on the bottom of it. Are you tired of the burnout that comes with chasing clients through DMs, constantly posting on social media with little return, and feeling stuck in feast-or-famine revenue cycles, this episode is for you. In Episode 273 of the School of Impact Podcast, you'll discover a five-part system that helps coaches and online service providers consistently attract 50–100 clients—without the chaos. From crafting magnetic messaging and building a strategic content system to designing conversion events and scaling with a tiered offer strategy, this episode delivers actionable insights backed by real-world success. Tune in now and learn how to grow your business with clarity, consistency, and sanity. “We don't have to be aggressive in the DMS, chasing people. We just have to be better with communication, with being able to speak our message in an influential way” Hear more about: Messaging Is Everything: Clear, specific, and emotionally resonant messaging is more effective than generic content. The key is to speak directly to your audience's external struggles and internal frustrations in their language, with a unique angle that helps you stand out in a noisy market. Strategic Content Systems Outperform Random Posting: Success doesn't come from constant, scattered posting. Instead, create a strategic content system that includes connection, authority, proof, and conversion posts—while also shifting beliefs and leading your audience through a buying journey. Conversion Events Create Predictability: Relying on high-volume DMs for sales leads to burnout and low conversion. Instead, run regular conversion events like live workshops, VSLs, or challenges to move leads through the buying pyramid in a more structured and scalable way. Email Lists Provide Leverage and Longevity: Social media visibility is fleeting. Consistently growing and nurturing your email list ensures better audience control, deeper engagement, and increased trust—all of which lead to more conversions over time. Tiered Offers Drive Sustainable Growth: You don't need to constantly acquire new clients to scale. A well-structured, tiered offer—where clients can move between one-on-one and group options—helps increase client retention, stabilize monthly revenue, and simplify scaling without overcomplicating your business. I enjoy blending strategic thinking with creative problem-solving to drive meaningful change. My focus has always been on building connections and finding ways to enhance our communities.I kicked off my career in finance, where I found success as a top salesperson. That experience sharpened my analytical skills and taught me how to understand complex needs, which I now apply to my work in non-profit fundraising. What motivates me is the chance to contribute to causes that resonate with me. I thrive on collaboration, brainstorming new approaches, and discovering innovative strategies to advance our mission. Whether it's through partnerships, campaigns, or improving processes, my aim is to make a real impact. On a personal note, I grew up in Colorado, am a military brat, and the youngest of six siblings. I speak Spanish and love to travel! I'm a devoted wife who loves spending time with my husband. We enjoy serving our church, exploring new places, birdwatching, and practicing my compound bow in our league. And there's nothing better than a road trip through the Midwest with classic country tunes playing in the background. These experiences enrich my perspective and fuel my passion for giving back.I'm excited to connect with anyone who shares a passion for making a difference or wants to chat about innovative ways to engage in philanthropy and community work.https://boulderbridgehouse.org/https://www.linkedin.com/in/heather-lagge*************************************************************Judy is the CEO & Founder of the Judy Carlson Financial Group. For over thirty years, Amy Mays has worked alongside teens, helping them navigate life's challenges. As a youth director and counselor, she learned something crucial: teens need more than programs. They need places where they feel they truly belong, where getting support doesn't feel like a big deal. That's why she started Happy Crew in 2007. It began with weekly meetings where teens could be themselves, find their voice, and know they matter. What started with just a few students grew steadily. In the 2024-2025 school year, Happy Crew will host a total of 23 weekly meetings that bring together an average of 75 students each time. Already, 183 different teens have found community through Happy Crew this year alone—and we're on track to connect with over 200 students before summer. But we need to do more.https://thehappycrew.org/https://www.happycrewcoffeehouse.com/*************************************************************Judy is the CEO & Founder of the Judy Carlson Financial Group.
