That's why I've created a checklist with 100 tips I've gathered since I started out in 2017. The checklist is divided into 5 sections with 20 tips each. It will help you to take your first steps on this new adventure, feeling confident and supported. The tips are divided into: Time management tips Homeschool and learning tips Organization tips Self care tips Mindset tips https://mylittlehomeschool.com/100-tips-for-new-working-homeschool-moms/ Sponsor for the Episode Working homeschool mom, I know how overwhelming it can be to choose a math curriculum for your homeschool. That's why I'd like to tell you about the online math curriculum we've been using for years – CTCMath.com. As far as math curriculums go, it has loads of great features that solve lots of the math issues we've had and I know a lot of homeschooling families have. Here are a few of the features (from the many) that we really like: Questions are adaptive which means the interactive questions change in difficulty depending on the student's ability. They use a smart algorithm that tracks the student's progress and delivers questions based on their unique needs. The student doesn't even know this is happening, helping them to build confidence and master concepts! Concepts are delivered through video tutorials and summaries which are clear, complete, and easy to follow [like having your very own teacher]. This ensures your children understand something before they're asked to practise it. And then for us parents, CTCMath has: Extensive reports which are valuable in monitoring your child's progress and spotting any gaps. And they offer a 12-month money-back guarantee if this curriculum is not for you and your family. CTCMath will provide a full refund, no questions asked. But I think the most important things is a whole lot LESS stress when it's math time for both parents AND kids. You get to outsource math with confidence and your kids get a fantastic tailor-made programme that makes learning and mastering math enjoyable and positive. Visit ctcmath.com today to start your free trial. CTCMath is offering you listener, an amazing special! This episode, I'm chatting with Danii Oliver, who lives in Texas with her husband and two children who are almost 6 and 11. Danii shares her story of leaving New York City behind in search of something new for and her and family, and to live a more gentle and connected life, which they now do on their permaculture farm in Texas. We talk about the deschooling process and how, even though Danii was clear from the start that they would unschool, it still took her a lot of work to unravel the deep conditioning she had from her Caribbean childhood and her own school experiences. There's so much in this episode, but I think the main message is that we have to trust and let go in order to really see our children and allow them to be who they are. I hope you enjoy the conversation. You can follow Danii here:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kidofamilyranchWebsite: http://www.unschooldiscoveries.com/Danii's book. Message from Akilah“I felt compelled to bring the sounds of my current city into this episode. I literally missed my deadline to submit the raw audio, because Spirit said Don’t record that intro in the corner of your closet, Sis. Instead, open your window, let the city sound off while you try to speak to some of what you’re feeling. I obeyed. And later that evening, the voices and emotions of the people of Atlanta sounded off too, in the form of peaceful protest. I was able to see some of it from our apartment, and I watched with Kris, Marley, and Sage, swaying in between a stream of emotions ranging from anger to exhaustion. I didn’t know that the audio I was called to document, to hold, would be the calm before yet another storm here in the American South. Peaceful protests were interrupted by police; humans raged; the government retaliated; helicopters and curfews circled the city; more rage, more fear, more resistance.Anti-Black racism and the myth of white supremacy are present and prevalent now, as has always been the case in this country. And while some shit stays the same--violent, horrific, hateful--some things are changing, too. Where are you finding positive change around you? Seek it out, amplify it, fixate if you need to. Do what you can to remind yourself that storms come and go, but we have, and will always, find ways to weather them, and eventually to thrive despite them. I believe that. I believe in Black people. I believe that we can organize and plan and divest and dismantle and learn and lead and listen and love our way to liberation.” #blacklivesmatterIn this fifth deschooling release party session we talk with Danii Oliver, mother of two children, unschooler and owner of the Natural Beverage Brands: Island to Island Brewery, House of Juice and Brooklyn Jun Brew. Until now we had been focusing on the pivot and what is deschooling causing to pivot away from. This time Danii tells us about how she gave it a different approach, she realized that for her, pivoting wasn’t liberation, she decided to do something else instead.Akilah talks about the importance of communal spaces and shares Deschooling: It’s A Thing!, an Eclectic Learning Network project, a global, monthly, virtual meetup for caregivers who are committed to explore ways to shift their parenting practices. This was made in joint effort with the Alliance for Self-Directed Education.Community bonds us and makes us aware of the importance to pause and nurture ourselves. Fine artist, designer, developer, business woman, juice bar owner, craft beer brewery owner, Texas transplanted wife and mother of three, 2 human kids and 1 umbrella beverage manufacturing company and soon a farmer. Danii defines herself by her work, productivity and her accomplishments. As an Arawak Indigenous American, Danii was raised in the spirit of perfection and judged by every single move she made to protect her from box society setup for melanated women. Being raised by a family that demanded perfection, Danii had no second thoughts to her PLAN A’s, ignorant that she’d be pioneering her way through emerging & male dominated industries of manufacturing technology and craft beer. It was no surprise to Danii's family that after deciding to have a child, she would willfully break every status quo to pioneer her own version of the lifelong parenting experience. Coming from the natural juicing lifestyle, Danii chose the natural birth path, home birthing her first with a team; the second alone while traveling 2,400 miles to a new home. Being deeply embedded in the evidence based culture of natural birth Danii naturally migrated toward the unschool home education and homesteading lifestyle. "I want my children to grow up with the same stories of adventure; a connection to the land, like my parents and ancestors grew up with back home in the Caribbean." However, the power of "colonial survival teachings” prevalent in many Central American Caribbean homes and the pull of Danii's entrepreneurial life made a cookie cutter homeschool experience impossible. Danii needed no materials, she made her own based on a “5Es Methodology” she developed. Danii pushed her daughter toward perfection and advancement to avoid negative judgment and being arrested for negligence while living in New York City. Moving to the countryside of Texas and feeling rejected by SDE communities, Danii quickly realized her colonial perfectionism was stifling her children. Danii and her spouse are now on the deschooling journey to parent “without the belt” giving themselves space for self care they define as attention to their nature - not spa days - and still unschool with purpose … some days. Danii hopes to debut her “5E Methodology” in 2020 as she continues to navigate the world as a businesswoman raising free people. “My education was a PRISON! I was punished as part of the collective. I had no space for thought for reflection. This lead to depression and thoughts of suicide, which weren’t recognized in West Indian Culture in the 20th century. When I was able to educate myself, I found the agency for expression, research and reflection. I found peace in studying books that were NOT assignments attached to a grade, holding my future hostage. This sense of self - I have only scratched the surface of in my 30’s - is what I want my children to grow up with, rather than push them toward the status quo.” ******** Weekly Interviews and Podcast release: Thursdays 2 p.m. EST --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/girlfriendschat/support

These styles aren’t masked with additional flavor so Pat and Matt agree they serve as a good test for new breweries. Danii Oliver of Island to Island Brewery stops by as well to share her thoughts on the differences between social media culture, and what customers actually want.
