That's why I'd like to tell you about the online math curriculum we've been using for years – CTCMath.com. As far as math curriculums go, it has loads of great features that solve lots of the math issues we've had and I know a lot of homeschooling families have. Here are a few of the features (from the many) that we really like: Questions are adaptive which means the interactive questions change in difficulty depending on the student's ability. They use a smart algorithm that tracks the student's progress and delivers questions based on their unique needs. The student doesn't even know this is happening, helping them to build confidence and master concepts! Concepts are delivered through video tutorials and summaries which are clear, complete, and easy to follow [like having your very own teacher]. This ensures your children understand something before they're asked to practise it. And then for us parents, CTCMath has: Extensive reports which are valuable in monitoring your child's progress and spotting any gaps. And they offer a 12-month money-back guarantee if this curriculum is not for you and your family. CTCMath will provide a full refund, no questions asked. But I think the most important things is a whole lot LESS stress when it's math time for both parents AND kids. About the Podcast On the Strike a Balance Podcast for Working Homeschool Moms this week, I have the great pleasure of welcoming Karen Stone, BA, Special Ed, MA, Learning Disabilities, onto the podcast. Karen has worked in the education field for more than 45 years. Karen's education background and her own experiences of being bullied from childhood to early adulthood, at home and school led her to authoring an anti-bullying blog, www.howwestopbullying.com. Karen's work is also influenced by her experiences raising a son with significant disabilities. Karen's professional experiences as an educator showed her that for children to be successful, whether they had disabilities or not, they needed to value themselves, each other and their abilities. As CEO of SoftStone Products, Inc., Karen has written and piloted research-based children's Emotional Intelligence (EQ) programs implemented with students from Preschool to High School. Karen's new book, Is Your Child's World Emotionally Safe?, reveals her personal story but also makes a compelling case for the inclusion of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in every home and classroom. It was wonderful chatting to Karen and hearing about the importance of teaching our little ones EQ from a young age. She shares some really interesting ways to include this in your homeschool, even as a busy working homeschool mom. How many hours would they be expected to sit and quietly do work? And going on their time in public school, how was I ever going to fit all those hours into my already hectically busy day?! It took some time, but eventually I figured everything out. So in the episode today, I'm going to tell you what I found out and what works for us. And I bet you're going to be pretty surprised by what I have to share! I'll give you exactly the recommended hours per day to homeschool. But I'm also going to share some tips and strategies for making the most of the time you have and for also saving time with homeschooling! Elan is a podcaster, coach, and founder of Homeschool Our Way. She is passionate about supporting families of color as they start their homeschool journey because of the invaluable opportunities it's afforded her own family: the ability to give her two daughters one-on-one instruction, the ability to nurture their children's individual strengths and passions, and the ability to adapt both of their girls' education to their unique learning styles. About the Episode Homeschool consistency is something that many new working homeschool moms want. And I totally agree! It's something that I need in my homeschool – especially because I'm homeschooling neurodivergent children. My children crave routine but are also resistant at the best of times. Consistency has been necessary but hard won for me. I have to say that my idea of what being consistent means has changed a lot since I started out in 2017 and this shift has helped me to get to the point we are now.   It might feel to you that staying consistent seems really hard. If you're just starting out and you're comparing it to public school consistency, it might seem impossible Or you might be feeling that you're not quite managing it in your first three years of being a working homeschool mom.  On the Strike a Balance Podcast for Working Homeschool Moms this week, I want to share 4 tips that can help you ensure homeschool consistency.   Claim Your Free eBook: How to Prioritize Self Care when You're Busy In the crazy-busy life of a working homeschool mom, it's easy to forget about taking care of yourself. About the Episode Feeling like you're falling behind in homeschool is no fun. As humans, we're programmed to move forward, to compete and to feel like we must be ahead of the game.  I also think the reason why it feels so crummy is because homeschooling comes with so many expectations - from ourselves and from others. We've taken on this huge responsibility so we better start doing it perfectly right away. Or else we're failures. If you know me, then you know that I'm not someone who's going to tell you to work harder and push more to get 'back on track'. Yes, those posts and episodes are out there! I read them and felt sad about the message they're spreading.  Let's rather investigate where these feelings come from and reframe them. I think you're going to have a better chance of moving forward from that point.
