Do you know what your numbers are really saying about your home staging business? Many home stagers focus on revenue when measuring success, but buyers look at something very different when evaluating a business. In this episode of The Real Women Real Business Podcast mini-series, How to Sell Your Home Staging Business, Shauna Lynn Simon breaks down the financial story behind business value and explains why revenue alone does not determine what your company is worth.Listeners will learn how buyers interpret financial statements, what profitability really means, and why understanding metrics like gross profit, net income, and Seller's Discretionary Earnings (SDE) can dramatically impact a future sale. Even if numbers aren't your strength, this episode will help you understand the financial story buyers see when evaluating your business without getting lost in accounting jargon or complicated formulas.Whether selling is years away or simply a future possibility, this conversation will help home stagers look at their numbers through a completely different lens. You'll also learn why preparing your financials 2-3 years before a sale can significantly impact both buyer confidence and business value. The insights shared in this episode can lead to stronger decision-making, healthier profits, and a more valuable business long before an exit is ever on the horizon. If you're serious about building a staging business that creates both income and long-term value, this is an episode you won't want to miss.Timestamps:(00:08) - (04:48) - Why revenue is not the same thing as business value(04:49) - (09:31) - How buyers read your financials as a story of risk and profit(09:32) - (14:12) - Why clean books and service profitability matter before selling(14:13) - (20:18) - The difference between gross profit, net income, and real earning power(20:19) - (27:08) - How buyers value a staging business using SDE instead of revenue or inventory(27:09) - (40:00) - Add backs, valuation multiples, and how to increase buyer confidenceResources:Get your "Is Your Home Staging Business Sellable?" ebook free when you use promo code SELL100: https://slsacademy.com/sellreadyLearn more about the Sell Your Staging Business Bootcamp (and claim your spot): https://slsacademy.com/sellyourbiz

Buying Online Businesses Podcast
What Investment Bankers Know About Buying Businesses That Regular Buyers Will Never Figure Out Exists with Kyle Brown

Buying Online Businesses Podcast

Most people buying businesses are looking for the obvious. The obvious growth. The obvious profit. The obvious opportunity. That's exactly why they miss the best deals. Kyle Brown spent years in investment banking and private equity evaluating acquisitions before ever buying a business himself. And what he learned was simple: The businesses that look the safest aren't always the best investments. And the businesses that look broken aren't always broken. When Kyle came across an ecommerce business that was barely breaking even, most buyers would have walked away. Declining performance. Frustrated owners. Uncertain future. On paper, it looked risky. But Kyle wasn't looking at the same things everyone else was. In this episode, Jaryd sits down with Kyle to unpack how investment bankers evaluate opportunities, how private equity investors think about risk, and how to value a business when traditional formulas stop working. They discuss why so many buyers become obsessed with multiples, how distressed businesses can create outsized returns, and the operational changes that helped turn a struggling acquisition back into a profitable company. But perhaps the biggest lesson is this: Buying a business isn't about finding perfection. It's about seeing something everyone else has missed. Most buyers never learn how to do that. Kyle did.

SDE's Approach to Solar Racking: What DG Installers Need to Know #348

Solar racking is one of the lowest-cost line items on a DG project and one of the highest-risk failure points. Kyle Sinclair, Co-founder and CEO of SDE (Sinclair Designs and Engineering), joins Tim Montague to explain how USA-made steel and 4-day commercial engineering turnarounds are solving the lead time and logistics failures that slow commercial solar projects. SDE produces 3 megawatts of racking in a single 8-hour shift. On this episode of the Clean Power Hour, host Tim Montague speaks with Kyle about the full arc of SDE's product line, from the Skyrack 2.0 fixed-tilt ground-mount system to a new I-beam solution designed for rocky soil conditions in Texas and on the West Coast. They also cover the realities of solar carport installation, including foundation risk, soil testing, and why carport projects require a fundamentally different approach than ground mount racking. Here is what you will learn in this conversation:Learn how SDE turns around residential stamped drawing packages in 2 days and commercial packages in 4 days, and why that speed has become the deciding factor for EPCs managing safe harbor deadlines.Understand the difference between C-channel and I-beam ground mount racking, including why high refusal rates in rocky soil conditions led SDE to develop a 6x9 and 6x15 I-beam solution that Kyle says is more cost-effective than most competitors' C-channel designs.Learn what every EPC should know before pricing a solar carport installation: how soil conditions drive foundation costs from $1,500 per hole to $2,800 per hole, and why planning for worst-case geotech results protects your margin.Find out how SDE holds a 95% delivery accuracy rating using ISO 9001 quality management and Keyence scanning technology integrated into their ERP system, and why that matters when your crew is at a remote site expecting a full kit.Any EPC designing projects in the Midwest or expanding into new geographies need to hear Kyle's approach to engineering for conditions that historical data no longer predicts accurately.Connect with Kyle Sinclair, SDE Kyle LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kyle-sinclair-b9b60a62/SDE Website: https://www.sinclair-designs.com/ Support the showConnect with Tim  Clean Power Hour  Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. What if the best acquisition you'll ever make is the one nobody else bothered to look at? That's not a rhetorical question. That's exactly how Karl Hughes bought his first agency. While every other buyer was refreshing broker listings and fighting over the same tired deals, Karl built a spreadsheet, started cold DM-ing podcast production founders on LinkedIn, and had fifty conversations most people would've deleted without a second thought. No broker. No bidding war. No competing offers. Just Karl, a thesis, and the patience to work a room that nobody else had walked into yet. One of those conversations turned into a sub-million-dollar acquisition at 2.7x SDE -a healthy, cash-flowing business with clients who'd been around for five-plus years. The seller had never seen a competitor's P&L in his life. Karl had seen twenty before he ever made the call. But here's where it gets interesting. That deal was just the beginning. Since then, Karl has been quietly building a portfolio of niche marketing agencies -the kind that are too small for private equity, too owner-dependent for most buyers, and too overlooked for anyone to notice the opportunity hiding inside them. Financing deals creatively. Targeting founders who are ready to move on. And figuring out in real time what it actually takes to merge two similar agencies without torching the clients that made them worth buying in the first place. In this episode, Jaryd sits down with Karl to unpack why small agencies rarely get a real exit -and why that's the opportunity. How Karl showed a seller the actual debt math before making an offer and closed with trust instead of pressure. And what he'd do completely differently if he had to start the integration process over again from day one. Most buyers wait for a clean deal to fall into their lap. Karl just built his own pipeline and went to find it.

David shares his path from early interest in business to working in Yellow Pages sales, business brokerage, banking, and eventually building a consulting practice focused on helping people buy and sell Main Street and lower middle market companies. They discuss how buyers think about business value, why multiples are only the first pass in evaluating a deal, and what separates a business that is merely profitable from one that is actually sellable. David also explains the difference between SDE and EBITDA, why systems matter so much in a sale, and how terms can be more important than headline price. This conversation moves beyond valuation and into ownership itself. What makes a business attractive to a buyer? How do systems and delegation increase both freedom and enterprise value? And why do so many owners build businesses that only a younger version of themselves could buy?If you care about building a company that is easier to run, easier to grow, and eventually easier to sell, this conversation is for you.Visit https://workshop.blueprintos.com to register for the upcoming Above The Business workshop.Learn more about David Barnett: https://www.investlocalbook.com/ Listen to David Barnett's Small Business podcast: https://www.investlocalbook.com/p/in-media.html Find David Barnett's books on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=David+C.+Barnett&i=audible&ref=dp_byline_sr_audible_1 Thanks to our sponsorsCoach P ConsultingCoach P found great success as an insurance agent and agency owner, leading a large and stable team of top-performing professionals. In this conversation with host, Eric Bennett, Ishtar shares how this near death experience (NDE) transformed his grief, dissolved his fear of death, ignited mystical awareness, and eventually led him to a life as a monk and meditation teacher. NDE vs SDE. In this moving conversation, Eric talks with Amber Kasic about the night she accompanied her father as he was dying in 2020 and unexpectedly experienced what's known as a shared death experience (SDE) — a spiritually transformative moment in which she felt her father's soul transition before his physical body died.In this SDE, Amber describes holding her father's hand in hospice, dropping into pure love and surrender, and suddenly feeling a powerful, "whooshing" presence move through her body, down her arm, and into her father — along with the unshakable knowing: “We are eternally bonded.” That NDE/SDE moment erased her fear of death, changed her view of the soul, and ultimately led her to serve others as an evidential medium and end-of-life coach. She and Eric also talk about why some souls seem to “leave” before the last breath, terminal lucidity (or “the surge”), how families can better meet death as sacred instead of terrifying, and how her dad later proved his continued presence to her mom…with pudding. Frustrating that we don't have answers for Dantonio stuff. Felt like Hoke era offense. OL was okay save for Zack Marshall; he wasn't ready and we missed Marlin Klein. RBs were not pressing gaps, Haynes missed blocks in pass pro. 4. Oklahoma After Review: Defense starts at 44:43 Couldn't fit the QB run game. A lot of that was unbalanced, and Michigan didn't use the same response to that as usual, probably because Jayden Sanders was at corner and they didn't want him to be the free safety. Some Dammit Wink but I expect Guy to chip. Weirdly bad games from Benny, Guy, Moore. A little worried that Tre Williams still thinks he's a Clemson d-tackle.  Featured Artist: Jim Cherewick A local artist, writer, and musician, Jim Cherewick has been involved in a lot of projects around town—Gymsee, False Figures, Best Exes, Piner, Wicker Chairs, and Congress. I discovered him because I liked his watercolors, and then saw he's playing at the Pig with Cattywampus in October so I started checking out his stuff and have been writing to it all week. It's all indie but all sounds different—the best way I can describe it is you start with a guy and a Fender and add a My Bloody Valentine slider that goes all the way up (Congress) or down (Wicker Chairs). I chose a spread to show what I mean. I'm still in discovery mode here but hope you'll join me. Songs: "Death Wagon"—Jim Cherewick "Urgency"—Wicker Chairs "Pile of Me"—Congress Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken down, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat
