Join Me for the 12-Day Homeschool Mom Self-Care Challenge A homeschool mom self-care challenge that honours you. Homeschool mama, I see you. December is here, and it feels like an avalanche of ALL the things.Every month as a homeschool mom is full, but December? It's a whole new level. You're trying to finish things up, or you’re moving into a unit study on Christmas, you’re purchasing, prepping, planning, and playing—and you just added a part time-job to your full-time job. But as a homeschool mama, when December rolls around, mama ain’t looking after herself, she’s looking, after ALL the things. And though ALL the things are a whole lot of things EVERY other month, December’s ALL the things is an exponential set of things. Though you’re trying to do all the things, fulfill the expectations, and make it magical for your kids, you can’t do a little bit more if you didn’t already incorporate an approach to maintain margins and pursue purposeful living. That's why I'm inviting you to join me for the 12-Day Self-Care Challenge for Homeschool Moms. This isn't another TO DO list. It's a TO GIVE list—a way to give back to yourself. Join the 12 Day Self-Care Challenge Why Self-Care Matters As homeschool moms, we have a unique calling. We're deeply present with our kids, invested in their well-being, and working hard to create meaningful memories and learning experiences. We savor moments of: Watching our kids harmoniously play together (sometimes). Cheering them on as they tackle new challenges. Seeing their excitement as they pursue new interests. Building lifelong memories as a family. But there's another side to this season: The constant stream of emotions (theirs and ours). Sibling squabbles. Complaints and meltdowns. And, of course, the never-ending mundane tasks—laundry, dishes, meals, and errands. Even when we handle these challenges with grace, the emotional and mental investment is enormous. Add the holidays to the mix, and it's no wonder we feel stretched thin. The Secret Ingredient to a (more) Peaceful Holiday Season Here's the thing: you matter too. Your well-being is not just an afterthought—it's the foundation of a happy family life and a peaceful holiday season. Self-care: Refills your energy so you can approach the holidays with calm and joy. Models healthy balance and boundaries for your children. Helps you manage stress and let go of perfection. Strengthens your emotional resilience to handle challenges with patience and grace. Creates space for joy and presence, helping you savor the small, magical moments. When you care for yourself, you're giving your family the best gift of all—a peaceful, grounded, and joyful mama. What You'll Get in the 12-Day Challenge In just fifteen minutes a day—maybe even five—you'll explore simple, practical self-care strategies that fit into your busy December. These strategies aren't just for the holidays; they're tools to carry into the new year, helping you nurture yourself and your family with greater ease and satisfaction. By the end of these 12 days, you'll feel: More energized. More connected to yourself. And more at peace as you move through this beautiful, busy season. And so we must take care of ourselves. Join the 12 Days of Homeschool Mom Self-Care Challenge Join Me—You Deserve This So, homeschool mama, this is your invitation to take a breath, step back, and remember that you are worth nurturing. Let's do this together. This December, give yourself the gift of care, calm, and connection. Join the 12-Day Self-Care Challenge for Homeschool Moms and rediscover the joy of the season—not just for your family, but for you too. Just fifteen minutes a day. You've got this. Could small changes at home make a big difference in your child's education? In this week's episode of Complicated Kids, I talk with Chris Linder, a hybrid homeschooling advocate and founder of Homeschool Remix, about what hybrid homeschooling really looks like—how it bridges the gap between traditional school and home learning, why it's a powerful option for neurodivergent kids, and how parents can get started without burning out. We explore what hybrid homeschooling is (and isn't), why parents are more qualified than they think, the realities of state requirements, and how to avoid the overwhelm that often comes with taking a more active role in learning at home. Chris shares simple, realistic strategies that help parents supplement school in meaningful ways, nurture their child's interests, and create learning environments that actually fit their kids. If you've been curious about homeschooling or wondering how to support your child beyond traditional school hours, this conversation is full of clarity and encouragement. Key Takeaways Parents are their child's first and most natural teacher. Hybrid homeschooling blends school structure with home-based flexibility. It's especially supportive for neurodivergent kids and kids with strong interests. You can start small—one subject or a few hours a week. Homeschooling doesn't have to be expensive. "Deschooling" helps prevent burnout and resets routines. Teaching critical thinking is more important than memorizing curriculum. Both secular and religious homeschooling options exist. Community makes a big difference—no one has to do this alone. Many parents say they wish they had started sooner. About Chris Linder Chris Linder is the founder of Homeschool Remix, where he helps families design hybrid homeschool systems that honor their values, their child's needs, and their real-life schedules. He works closely with parents, educators, and co-ops to make flexible, personalized education accessible to all families. About Your Host, Gabriele Nicolet I'm Gabriele Nicolet, toddler whisperer, speech therapist, parenting life coach, and host of Complicated Kids. Each week, I share practical, relationship-based strategies for raising kids with big feelings, big needs, and beautifully different brains. My goal is to help families move from surviving to thriving by building connection, confidence, and clarity at home. Complicated Kids Resources and Links

Send us a textChange doesn't wait for the perfect schedule, and neither do big feelings. We sit down after a long day to unpack a week where a 30-minute hydrotherapy session brought relief, the weather kept us indoors, and Oakland leaned hard into the comfort of screens and familiar routines. Rather than fight it, we explore why control, predictability, and co-regulation can be smart strategies when a child's world is filled with packed boxes and looming travel plans. We get personal about the daily school run for Lacey and the meltdowns that come with transitions: the countdowns that sometimes help, the moments that don't, and the practical safety steps that keep everyone secure. Paige breaks down why static visuals and tabletop tasks trigger Oakland, offering a different lens for therapists and educators—lighten language, reduce direct demands, and protect autonomy wherever you can. We also talk about weekends, nature, and why water usually eases his nervous system, while staying honest about the days it doesn't.Amid family recalibration, Paige reveals The Inclusion Collective—an accessible, privately funded membership for carers seeking practical training and genuine connection. Expect live group education on NDIS reviews and school systems, clarity connection calls for questions and body doubling, masterclasses from diverse voices, and an active chat that doesn't expect perfection. Send us a textA five-minute visit can hold a whole season of hope. I sat down with Paige Carter of Inclusive Oak to trace the delicate return of motivation after school burnout, and name a stage many families live inside: curiosity without capacity. Oakland asked to see his friends, stepped into the classroom, then stepped back out, overwhelmed but determined enough to hug classmates in the hallway. We call that progress, and we talk about how changing our expectations changes a child's nervous system. We also untangle language that matters in practice. De-schooling is the rest-and-repair bridge between school and any home education model; unschooling is the child-led learning that may follow. Paige shares how releasing academic demands helped her son regulate, then rediscover interest through technology. From iPad downtime to active PlayStation sessions and YouTube walk-throughs, we explore how authentic learning shows up when a child truly cares about the goal: decoding letters to search, transferring steps into gameplay, and building confidence one solved problem at a time.Parallel to this home shift runs a major advocacy effort. Paige takes us inside her months-long push to address the “grey area” in education, children who don't qualify for special education but can't access mainstream classrooms safely or consistently. After building a campaign, gathering expert input, and meeting the Premier, she shares the emotional toll and why deep rest afterward wasn't indulgence but maintenance. Looking ahead, the family is packing up their home to travel Australia for a year. The kids get choice over what to keep and how to set up their bunks, and a purpose-built stroller remains a crucial support for safety and regulation in public spaces. If this story resonates, whether you're navigating de-schooling, advocating for grey-area learners, or rethinking what “success” looks like - come along. Home education can provide a more fulfilling and engaging learning experience for children. De-schooling is essential to move away from traditional educational expectations. Families should focus on their unique values and goals in education. The deregistration process is straightforward but requires careful consideration.
